2-25-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor       Web Master John Strasser

Conservative Political Action Conference live here. Speakers included Arizona’s Gov Doug Ducey. here

Over The Past Few Days, conflicting versions have surfaced over what transpired during a Feb 21 meeting at AZGOP headquarters regarding newly elected Secretary Gabby Saucedo-Mercer’s request for records. See: 2-22-17 AZGOP Update – Lines, – Republican faction, 2-23-17-briefs - Schwartz ,  Little Jonnie Lines Needs a Nose Wiper and 2-24-1-7 Briefs – Mercer.

Now questions are being asked as to why three state committeemen accompanied Mercer to the Feb 21 meeting – some implying the trio represented former candidate Jim O’Connor. Others question why Headquarters had attorney’s there – other than Tim LaSota, who is on retainer for the party.

Last night, Briefs asked O’Connor, “Were Tim Horn, Lynn Breyer and Timothy Schwartz in attendance at meeting with Gabby Mercer at AZGOP  HQ on Feb 21 in your behalf or knowledge?” O’Connor replied, “Allow me to clarify who was representing whom at Tuesday’s meeting (or from what I heard non-meeting). It seems from Jonathan Lines letter to Gabby that he has confused Gabby’s intent and purpose of Gabby’s requested meeting. As I understand it, Gabby is attempting to execute her role as the “elected” secretary of AZGOP. Part of that role, as clearly defined in the AZGOP By-Laws, is for her to “KEEP” all records of the State Party. Lynne Breyer was there to assist Gabby in getting those records. Although Gabby Mercer ran on a slate with me, she was there doing her own business as secretary and NOT representing me or my campaign.

“Tim Horn was an important part of my campaign team and was at the 1/28/17 election where he ask the Credentials Chairman and Party Officials for  an opportunity to come into the office to examine the documents associated with the election including proxies, sign in sheets, Simply Voting, Com tally sheets/reports and other documents to confirm the accuracy of the process. Everyone participating in that discussion AGREED for members of my campaign team to come into party headquarters for that examination. The request made late afternoon of 1/28/17 was on the basis of the very close vote for the Chairman position. Timothy Schwartz had volunteered to help Tim Horn review the election records. As for details of how and when Tim & Timothy arranged to be there, you will have to discuss that with them.”

Briefs sent Chairman Lines several questions in Yuma last night, but due to his hectic schedule, Briefs doesn’t have his response at post time.

In the meantime, the guy caught between a “rock and a hard spot” is AZGOP Executive Director Avinash Iragavarapu as he tries to follow AZGOP Chairman Lines directives and maintain a workable relationship with all others involved. Preferring not to comment on the records saga, last night  Iragavarapu said, “I just want everyone to get along.” Will some kind soul, please, take him a bottle of aspirins?? He must have a massive headache by now. – ft

A Comment in reads, “Never before has a new chairman been attacked so much in his first month in office. Chairman Lines hasn’t attended his first RNC meeting yet, hasn’t been given the time to get his team in place, nor has he even had his first fundraiser and executive committee meeting. Yet the constant campaign, procedural maneuvers, rumors, and fake news have been designed to keep him from governing.”

Briefs digresses a few years back to the way then newly elected AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey was treated when he took the oath of office. Just drop Morrissey’s name in place of Lines in the above commentary to get a taste of what occurred. Morrissey, a political unknown, came into office with little to no political baggage, compared to Lines alleged ties to John McCain (which Lines denies). Lines first month in office doesn’t hold a candle to the way the vindictive anti-Morrissey groupies worked over the retired Irish federal cop. Within weeks, the groupies attempted to remove Morrissey – to the extent of placing removal flyers on the meeting room chairs before Morrissey could call  his first state committeemen meeting to order. Although it was common knowledge who was involved, no one had the cajones to admit to the shenanigan and it backfired – making them the burnt of juicy comments for weeks to come.  Morrissey finished the meeting with his chairmanship title.  Nevertheless, they chewed his backside the whole time he was in office. There was no mercy… he couldn’t do anything to suit them. But, as those who had gone before him, he weathered the storms, finished his term and went on to write several books with actor Steven Seagal – one of which will reportedly be made into a movie in the not too distance future. - ft

Activist Gina Ray: A heap of criticism has been found with our current millennial generation  --and with all of the #Adulting tweets and videos they make, there is a good reason why.  However, the POST millennial generation has created more than just a flicker of hope for the future of our nation. A large group of Arizona high school kids have collaborated together to create a group called “Restorers of the Forgotten Freedoms”.  Their website contains their own writings using pen names such as LaRee, Satio, Aletha, and Illustro --just as many of the founding fathers did in their day.  And the articles are not just your average high school essays, but are extraordinarily impressive messages that teach others (especially adults) what they did not learn when they were a kid in school.  The motto of these high school kids is “Virtue, Vigilance, and Valor”.  On their website, they even give a definition of what each word means –which may come very handy when many adults do not even practice these morals today.  Within their group, they have assigned committees to watch bills, contact legislators, and educate the public.  They have recently formed the group in December of 2016 and their numbers are growing, so much so that the Queen Creek Public Library has told them that they may not be able to meet there anymore due to crowding hazards.  The meetings are entirely student led without a single adult present.  These kids are looking like they may just be the new wave for the future to turn things around and will definitely be able to navigate the grown up world with REAL #Adulting. Please help get the word out about these impressive youth. See

US Senate candidate Kelli Ward reports from the CPAC: Earlier this week, I arrived at CPAC and since then I’ve met hundreds of folks who are sick and tired of fake conservatives who never stand up for us. The message is clear — we the people are awake and ready to fight, expose, and vote out Establishment corruption all across the country! Right now, we have a golden opportunity to send a clear message to the DC insiders — people who will stop at nothing to shut us down and keep corruption alive and well in DC — that we're coming for them. We’re off to a great start, but there’s still a lot of work to do if we’re going to win this fight. We need to keep the foot on the gas, and we can only do that together. We don’t have the corrupt big money donors that career double-talking politicians like Jeff Flake have — but we have the will of the people on our side. It’s time to start electing fighters, not liberals masquerading as conservatives — together, we’ll make Arizona great again! kelli for senate

Arizona Republican Assemblies (AzRA) Western Pinal County Chapter will meet at 6:30 Pm, Mon., Feb 27 At 408 N. Sacaton St. Ste. II, Casa Grande, AZ. (SE Corner W Florence Blvd/N Sacaton St.) with Casa Grande Justice of Peace Judge John Ellsworth. Ellsworth, a native Arizonan, began his career as a Law Enforcement Specialist in the US Air Force in 1973. He later joined the Casa Grande Police Department, retiring as a sergeant in 1998 and became a criminal investigator for the Arizona Dept Of Corrections in Florence. After 9-11, he joined the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2014 as a lieutenant. He was then elected to the Casa Grande Justice Court Justice, taking office in 2015. Contact Nancy Hawkins Nancydist3@Gmail.Com For membership applications to the AZRA.

Former Maricopa County Republican Chairman Lyle Tuttle: During the campaign, Lines was freely giving out his home email and phone #; now it is nowhere to be found - at least not on the AZGOP website.  In fact, the phone # for him is the same as for the exec dir on the AZGOP website It is time for him to get off his arse and resolve the issue of the transfer of records as the bylaws dictate. Is this just the first of many such debacles he will allow to fester????

Activist Stephen Sivigliano: Unfortunately, the toughest sheriff in America, Joe Arpaio, was defeated in the last election.  I'm glad for him to be able to spend more time with his family, since he's 84, but the guy who replaced him is a liberal. The new guy has cancelled Joe's policy of holding criminal illegals for as long as 48 hours, so that ICE can pick them up.  We know how busy they are, and more so in the future.  Now, they have only 8 hours to come and get them before they are released onto the streets. That's taking a big chance for the safety of our citizens.  I wonder what other surprises this liberal has for us.

Gov Doug Ducey’s ‘Team Ducey’: When we heard that the state's cosmetology board was investigating Tucson student Juan Carlos Montes de Oca for volunteering to provide free haircuts for the homeless, we couldn't believe it -- and neither could most Arizonans. Why would government want to stop someone from volunteering his talents to those most in need? So we sent a letter to the board reminding them that the role of government is to help, not hinder, those trying to succeed in life. We called on them to immediately end their investigation. And they did. Tucson News Now reports that the board has dropped its complaint and investigation against Mr.  Montes de Oca. We believe that citizens shouldn't be stifled by an overbearing government. That's why we're committed to rolling back regulations and reducing licensing requirements. We want government to encourage people to get jobs, build careers, and better their lives. If you agree with what we're doing, share this story with your friends, your colleagues, your family.  Let's make sure government doesn't get in the way of our fellow citizens when they are doing good. Thanks!
