Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

Yesterday, The Arizona House of Representatives failed to pass HB 2403, legislation sponsored by LD16 Rep Doug Coleman which would prohibit Clean Elections candidates from contributing public funds to political parties. While a majority of House members supported HB 2403, it failed to achieve support from three-fourths of the body, which is required to amend statutes created through the initiative process.  Republicans overwhelmingly supported the measure, but Democrats opposed it. “Clean Elections candidates are supposed to use public money to run for office, not to line the coffers of their political party,” said Coleman.  “This is an abusive manipulation of the Clean Elections system and violates the trust of Arizona voters, yet Democrats would apparently rather protect the interests of their political party than taxpayers.” House Democrats Oppose Effort to Prohibit Public Money from Going to Political Parties

Pima County Tea Party Patriots are asking conservatives to call or contact the offices of Senators John McCain, Jeff Flake and Martha McSally on Mon., Feb 27 to remind them to keep their promises to repeal Obamacare. Suggested/modified text: Dear …. “There are no more excuses. The Affordable Care Act is not affordable. It’s time for you to follow through on your promise and do away with the health-insurance law. I urge you to fully repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including all provisions relating to federal regulation of the insurance market. Congress should pass a simple budget for fiscal year 2018 that lowers spending levels and then debate and pass a series of conservative, free-market healthcare reforms designed to enact consumer choice, strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and lower costs. We the People are watching.” Contact:  Congresswoman Martha McSally - Tucson, AZ (520) 881-3588 Washington, DC (202) 225-2542 Sierra Vista, AZ (520) 459-3115. Arizona Town Crier Jim Ely: MCRC Chairman Johnathan Lines announced the first Executive Committee meeting is March 11 in Yuma. Lines will host an optional BBQ and a range day following the official meeting. Lines has graciously offered to supply all of the food, ammo, weapons and targets. The official call letter and agenda will be sent out by AZGOP Secretary Gabriela Saucedo Mercer this week.

A - Executive Committee: The executive committee of the state committee's shall consist of the elected officers of the state committee, the national committeeman and committeewoman, the chairman and first and second vice chairman from each county, three members at large from each congressional district, and the president/chairman of each nationally recognized Republican auxiliary organization with at least 2,000 dues-paying members in the state. The state chairman shall chair the executive committee. The executive committee shall approve the annual budget and review and counsel the state chairman on all programs relating to the state party. The executive committee shall meet at least three times each year. The state chairman may appoint non-voting members of the executive committee.”

When has anyone ever seen or read the Executive Committee meeting minutes?  How many members have anything to do with running the party or setting the agenda? And note where the meeting is to be held!  Hooray for Navajo and Apache counties, it’s only a short trip! We’ve got to get away from these autocratic AZ GOP bylaws!  This is a membership organization and the members should call the shots with the chair carrying them out.It is suggested that Jim O’Connor, who narrowly lost his bid to be the state chairman, contact the 15 county chairmen and request that they meet after the Executive Committee meeting to discuss the upcoming review of the AZ GOP bylaws.  That will show statewide interest in what they plan to do, if anything, about it!  The current AZ GOP bylaws have been ’rubber stamped’ for years and many state chairs even ignoring or violating them.  Don’t expect a hand-picked person to do anything the chair doesn’t want!

LD27 PC Art Olivas: I sent this info out Key Info Preceding Az GOP Jan. 28, Meeting about RINO John McCain’s BOY back on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 8:28 PM. The only person who paid attention was Gabby S. Mercer. I am not a John McCain Butt Kisser or have Dark Money. Nobody listened. Some day, the conservative Republicans here in AZ. will start thinking for themselves as most politicians are in John McCain's pocket! Don't believe me! Now tell me which one has come out against him. And don't tell me about infighting as McCain has never been or will be conservative Republican!! I can still hear him saying “build the dang Fence”, then going on to get the Gang of Eight -- trying to help illegals; not giving a damn about you who put him in office.  If McCain has blood on his hands so do the ones who voted for him and kept him harming America!! This I believe. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. Where are these People?????

Rep Martha McSally (R2) 202-225-2542      520-881-3588

Rep Paul A. Gosar (R4) 202-225-2315       202-226-9739

Rep Andy Biggs (R5) 202-225-2635 202-226-4386

Rep David Schweikert (R6) 202-225-2190 202-225-0096

Rep Trent Franks (R8) 202-225-4576 202-225-6328

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Democrats electing Tom Perez as the new DNC Chair: "The Democrat Party has lost touch with the American people. Voters spoke loud and clear last November that they wanted a change in Washington and to reverse the failed policies of the last eight years. Families across the country are tired of skyrocketing premiums when they were promised affordable health care. They're tired of the Obama Economy that's left too many behind. President Trump and Republican representatives heard the voters' message loud and clear, and now hold a near historic number of offices across the country. By selecting a D.C. insider, Democrats only create deeper divisions within their own party by pushing a far left agenda that rejects a majority of their base outside Washington. The DNC would be well-served to learn from two straight election cycle losses, encourage the leaders in their party to listen to what the voters want, and get to work with Republicans to fix the mess they created."

AZ GOP Chairman Jonathan Lines:  Last November, Arizona voters sent a strong message to the establishment in Washington, DC that enough is enough. Today, national Democrats proved that they still do not understand what the people want. In electing career insider and Obama loyalist Tom Perez to the position of DNC chairman, Democrats have guaranteed themselves at least two more years of defeat. Meanwhile, the Republican Party is as strong and united as ever, and poised for another great election year in 2018. In Arizona, this means maintaining control of both legislative chambers, every Constitutional statewide office, and our U.S. Senate seat. I’d also like to extend my condolences to my counterpart at the Arizona Democrat Party, who endorsed losing candidate Keith Ellison for DNC Chairman. In endorsing Ellison, the Arizona Democrats tethered themselves to the extreme and hateful ideology of Congressman Ellison, who once rushed to the defense of noted radicals such as Louis Farrakahn and Kwame Toure. In casting their lot with such a divisive figure who has embraced the ugly rhetoric of division, Arizona Democrats chose division over progress. In November 2018, I look forward to watching the voters of Arizona once again dismiss the socialist policies of the Arizona Democrat Party.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

300 word limit policy. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Congressman Trent Franks in support of Deputy Assistant to President Donald J. Trump Dr. Sebastian Gorka in response to press and social media attacks against him this week: "I have followed the recent press and social media attacks against Dr. Sebastian Gorka and am compelled to respond with disgust at the attempt to libel this American patriot. Most disturbing of all is the attempt to portray Dr. Gorka in any way as anti-Semitic. Having called upon his expertise on Counterterrorism repeatedly in Congress and used his analysis to inform our work, I can attest that Dr. Gorka is the staunchest friend of Israel and the Jewish people. He truly understands the existential threat that Global Jihadism poses to both America and Israel and has repeatedly stated that groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS share a totalitarian bond with the Fascists and Nazis who threatened us in the 20th century. To associate him an any way with such ideologies is repugnant and a prime example of what has been termed "Fake News." Sebastian Gorka's service to the nation, his reputation, and his national security credentials are all unimpeachable and I am thrilled he is now serving in the White House as Deputy Assistant to President Donald J. Trump."

Congresswoman Martha McSally’s Assistant Weston McKee: I'm reaching out to all of Martha's supporters for the last time to introduce our new Campaign Manager, Anthony Barry. Anthony will be leading the charge to re-elect McSally. Last election, I hired Anthony to serve as our Political Director. So he has seen exactly what it takes for this campaign to win again in 2018. He knows Arizona's second congressional district better than just about anyone. Plus, he understands firsthand the unique communities and constituents of Southern Arizona. But this campaign won't be won easily. Democrats have already targeted Martha for defeat in 2018, and they've started raising Millions to make sure seats in key battleground districts, like Martha's, are reclaimed by Democrats. Anthony has what it takes to ensure Martha can continue to deliver results for Arizona (and for the rest of America!) and I hope you'll join him in the fight to reelect McSally. In order for Anthony to do his job and combat this Democrat wave, we need the grassroots support from dedicated friends. The resources you provide now will set the foundation for a successful campaign, re-elect Congresswoman McSally and protect our majority in the House. Will you fight back against the Democrats. I have greatly enjoyed my time working for Congresswoman McSally! Never have I believed in a candidate more. It has been a privilege to work with you these last several years. I am extremely confident to leave you in Anthony's expert care. Now, on to the next challenge!

LEGISLATIVE COMMENTARY

300 word limit policy. If statement exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Legislative Update from Senator Debbie Lesko:

  1. K-12 EDUCATION: The amount our state is spending on public education continues to increase every year and students are making improvements in national scores.  Public schools get money from different pots.  They get money from the state general fund, property taxes including bonds and overrides, Prop. 301 sales tax, Prop. 123 (which will add $300 M this year alone), federal tax dollars, and other sources. In fact, half of our entire state general fund budget is spent on education. Funding from all sources averaged $9,500/student/year in fiscal year 2016.
