2-6-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

Last Night, A State Committeeman who actually reads the AZGOP State Bylaws pointed out, “I could find nothing in the state bylaws that says the state committeemen are not allowed to have someone hold two officer positions of the state committee simultaneously.  The fact that Gabby Saucedo-Mercer was elected Secretary does not cause her to vacate her Second Vice Chairman position.  Article IV – Officers, A. List of Officers and Terms of Office states, generally about the terms of office of officers, “Officers shall hold office for the term specified and until their successors are qualified unless sooner removed as provided in these bylaws.” I do not see anywhere in the bylaws a prohibition on the members electing the same person to two positions.  Gabby Saucedo-Mercer was elected in 2016 to serve a two year term as First Vice Chairman and was elected on January 28, 2017 to serve a two year term as Secretary.”  So it appears, newly elected AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines doesn’t need to appoint someone to fill her First Vice Chair position.

Sarah Nguyen from Prescott Valley, AZ recently accepted her appointment to the United States Naval Academy, according to Congressman Paul Gosar of Prescott. Gosar said, “ Among her many accolades, my favorite is that she is an award-winning member of the AZ Scorpions Junior High Power Rifle Team. I am so proud of Sarah and you should be too! Congratulations to this future midshipmen on her amazing achievement. GO NAVY!”

President Donald Trump tells Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that he will appoint Vice President Mike Pence to lead a commission investigating voter registration fraud. FoxNews.com The pre-Super Bowl interview is scheduled to air on O’Reilly’s show Mon., Feb 6.

The Republican Women of Prescott will meet for lunch at 11:30 am., Tues., Feb 14 at the Prescott Resort/Conference Center, 1500 E Highway 69 in Prescott. Dr Tasneem Naqvi, Medical director of echocardiography at Mayo in Scottsdale will address various topics including women and heart disease statistics and heart disease related issues. $20 per person. RSVP deadline Thur., Feb 9. Contact Elsie Tyree 928-778-0235.

Congressman Paul Gosar will host a conversation with Virgina Congressman Dave Brat at 6 pm., Thurs., Feb 23 at the Best Western (Kachina Rm), 8333 E Sunrise Sky Drive in Gold Canyon. Contact 928-445-1683.

AZ GOP Chairman Jonathan Lines is asking each Precinct Committeeman to view and Click here to complete AZGOP PC Survey. He wants to knowwhat you consider to be the most important area of focus and if you'd consider serving on one or more committees he plans to to create, to help guide the implementation of our 100 day plan.

Rogue-Judges-Undermine-Our-Sovereignty; Here’s-How-Congress-Can-Stop-Them By: Daniel Horowitz Anticipating a day when we would have a president who actually protects national sovereignty, I wrote a book last year warning that if Congress fails to strip the courts of jurisdiction over immigration, radical judges will give affirmative immigration rights to foreign nationals. The thesis of my book — what was once an esoteric area of law — is now playing out in spectacular fashion. Congress and Trump’s Justice Department must fight back against the courts once and for all, or we will no longer remain an independent, sovereign, and safe country. The battle for the courts: 8 ways for Congress to show the judiciary who’s BOSS

State Dept Reverses Vis Revocations, Allowing Previously Banned Travelers To Enter US Tens of thousands of people had their visas provisionally revoked as part of the implementation of President Trump's travel ban. But the State Department undid that action Saturday after a federal judge put the ban on hold late Friday.

Trump on Australian Refugee Deal: ‘Why Are We Doing This?’ Initial reports of President Donald Trump’s weekend phone call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull described the exchange as generally productive, with some disagreement over President Obama’s promise to take some 1,250 Middle Eastern refugees off Australia’s hands. Read on→

Did McCain Make An Illegal-Foreign-Phone-Call?? “…Should He Resign? Senator John McCain is sounding more like a RINO everyday. He should be supporting his Congressional peers and President Donald Trump to make America safe again. Instead, John McCain’s phone call to the Australian ambassador, to pass on a message to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, might be a violation of the Logan Act. The law prevents citizens from interfering in disputes the United States is having with foreign countries. “(via Biz Pac Review)

FCC-Performs-Midnight-Revocations-Of-Previous-Leaderships-Midnight-RegulationsThe FCC giveth, and the FCC taketh away… from itself, apparently. Newly minted Chairman Ajit Pai has ordered the revocation of several reports and investigations instigated by the commission before the turnover to the new administration. Spiking the investigation into zero-rating practices by telecoms is the most serious about-face, but it’s worth noting the other items going down the memory hole, unannounced, on a Friday afternoon. Pai, in a statement, called the items being revoked “midnight regulations”

Statehood Day Will Mark the official opening of Common Grounds, the new specialty coffee shop in the Capitol Museum. There’ll be free coffee and cake to mark the occasion.

The Arizona Capitol Museum will celebrate 105 years of statehood with a special exhibit “From the Convention Desk” between 9 am-4 pm, Tues., Feb 14 at 1700 W Washington in Phoenix. The event features items used by Constitutional Convention delegates to draft the state’s keystone document, on exhibition in the Historic House Chamber. The includes engraved scissors used to open the convention, a gavel used by the Convention President, a collection of bound Minutes from Convention meetings, the pen used by Territorial Secretary George Young to sign the document, an inkwell used by all Constitution signatories, and the first State Ballot from Nov. 1912, among other items. In October 1910, convention delegates arrived at the Capitol in Phoenix. They used the modest House chamber, its wooden desks pressed tight next to each other, and fitted with the simple office supplies of the day. The AZCM Guild will be on hand to answer questions and lead tours, as well as sign up new members. The AZCM also welcomes clothing manufacturer State48 for the day, as they’ll be producing an exclusive State Seal branded shirt, and host a pop-up store at the Capitol. www.azlibrary.gov/azcm 602-926-3620.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

300 word limit policy. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Congressman Paul Gosar: I am honored to be named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. We are in a prime position to take bold action and help foster America’s energy revolution. I intend to empower my colleagues to take real action and enact practical solutions. By listening and engaging with our nation’s energy producers and consumers, this Subcommittee can reduce the unnecessary and job-killing red tape that continues to hold back economic development. Enacting a true all-of-the-above energy strategy will usher in real prosperity for all Americans. Click HERE to learn more.

Congressman Paul Gosar: Our nation’s public lands must play an integral role in our country’s all-of-the-above energy strategy. However, public land management agencies need a permitting process tailored to the unique characteristics and impacts of renewable energy projects. On Wednesday, I introduced a bipartisan bill that removes government red tape and unnecessary bureaucracy while developing a streamlined process that will drive investment towards the highest quality renewable sources. The revenue sharing mechanism in this bill will help local governments throughout Arizona deliver critical services on important capital improvement projects such as road maintenance, public safety and law enforcement. Congressman Paul Gosar: I'm very pleased with President Trump's pick for filling the great Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch. Not only did Judge Gorsuch receive unanimous, bipartisan support when he was confirmed in 2006 as Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit--he has proven himself to be cut from the same cloth as the iconic Justice Scalia, who he is replacing. All Americans who support the Rule of Law should celebrate this pick and know that Judge Gorsuch will be a champion of our Constitution. Click HERE to read more about our next Supreme Court Justice.
