3-2-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net        Web Master John Strasser

LD18 PC Peggy McClain to AZCOP Chairman Johnathan Lines: Here is some feedback -In other words, we aren't to question you, Robert Graham, or Senator McCain who pulls your strings. Sorry, we are not Democrats so we don't drink our leader's Kool-aid.  We will question when we feel it is necessary.  You forgot President Trump's words to #DrainTheSwamp. That includes any elected official, not just in Washington. Turn over the records due to Secretary Mercer and much of these questions will stop.

Activist Ruth Beth K. Hallgren to AZGOP: This is like the proverbial "pot calling the kettle black". It is like Democrat Obama tactics of saying, "Let's make our discourse civil". Of course there is no wish to consider, 'who started it'. That goes without saying. The question is who will admit wrong doing and what will the HONEST and JUST solution be, coming forward?

Yesterday morning at 9:21 am, a notice came in from CNN of a John McCain/Lindsay Graham Town Hall meeting scheduled for 9 pm., EST last night. How convenient. Working taxpayers are at their work place by 9:21 am and probably won’t get home until around 6 pm, so how many Arizona folks won’t even knew about it or watch it??? Sure beats facing the home state taxpayers in an open public Town Hall on their own turf! - ft

Former Marine Bill Heuisler: God Bless The United States, Ryan Owens and President Trump. At his glowingly patriotic speech to Congress  President Donald Trump praised the valiant service and KIA of US Navy Seal William “Ryan” Owens, who was killed in an otherwise successful Seal Team 6 night military raid in Yemen. William Ryan Owens' wife Carryn shared her grief from the balcony in a scene that will probably stay in our minds forever. “I just spoke to our great General Mattis, who reconfirmed that ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemy. Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity. Thank you.” President Trump said. Semper Fi. The Left further soiled their reputation attacking the hero's widow. leftists-attack

Just Five Weeks Into Donald Trump's presidency, Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham have already proven to be major headaches for the new President. McCain has accused Trump of running an "administration in disarray." Graham called his budget proposal "dead on arrival" on Capitol Hill. And two issues -- immigration and defense spending -- could provide Graham and McCain new fodder. The two will make their case to a national audience tonight in a town hall hosted by CNN and moderated by chief political correspondent Dana Bash. If You're Still Scratching Your Head over the bizarre fashion statement made by Democrats during President Trump's speech before Congress, you're not alone. Apparently, there really was a method to their madness, but the "protest" backfired big time …dem gals wearing white for trump blows up in own faces

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Women’s History Month: “This month marks a celebration of thousands of powerful women who have shaped the course of history,” said McDaniel. “I am honored to serve as the second woman to ever lead our party and the first in decades. It is the strength and resolve of women who led the decades-long fight for equality that has made possible the leadership of the women we admire today. Rising stars like Congresswoman Mia Love, who’s moving March for Life address gave hope to millions of Americans that we will protect life for generations to come, and Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, who authored legislation the president signed yesterday to empower women in STEM, have answered the call to lead at the highest levels. Courageous women like Lolita Zinke, the mother of two Navy SEALs, have engaged in their communities to advocate for the importance of supporting our men and women who keep us safe every day. From enduring Party leaders like Del. Amata Radewagen to newly-elected leaders like Congresswoman Liz Cheney, the Republican Party has never had so many trailblazing women ready to continue making history for generations to come. Throughout this month, I look forward to highlighting the work that these women, and so many more, have done and will do to champion freedom for all women around the world.”

The Dow Soared 303 Points To Close Above 21,000 For The First Time Ever on Wednesday, the day after President Donald Trump's address to Congress. It's not that the speech gave investors the policy details they were seeking. If anything, Trump gave fewer specifics on major issues like tax reform, Obamacare and deregulation than many expected. The key for Wall Street was the tone of Trump's speech: He sounded a lot more optimistic and presidential than in previous speeches. "The speech didn't break any new ground, but it was much more orderly and methodical than we are used to hearing," said Nicholas Colas, chief market strategist at brokerage firm ConvergEx.

Ex-Clinton Volunteer Slammed, Loses Job, After Swipe At Widow Of Fallen SEAL A former Hillary Clinton volunteer drew swift condemnation -- and lost his job -- after mocking the widow of a fallen Navy SEAL who was honored by the president during his congressional address Tuesday night.Dan Grilo, who said in his Twitter profile that he was a former volunteer for both Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, made the remarks after Trump paid tribute to Carryn Owens. She is the widow of U.S. Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, who was killed in a counterterrorism raid in Yemen last month.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

300 word limit policy. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s town hall in Sahuarita. I understand the importance of hearing your views on the top issues affecting Southern Arizona and our country. And while we may not agree on every issue, I sincerely appreciate the discussion and questions of those who participated. I will continue to make myself accessible to hear from Southern Arizonans and take your views back to Congress. Green Valley News write-up.

Last week, I joined Speaker Paul Ryan and Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul to tour border operations in the Rio Grande Valley. As the Chairwoman of the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee, it was helpful to hear about the challenges Border Patrol agents face in this area. Each section of our 2,000 mile southern border is different, with varying terrain and unique challenges that require a unique response to address them. I look forward to using these insights to help establish a comprehensive strategy that keeps our entire border safe.

It was my honor to sing the National Anthem last weekend before the University of Arizona game against UCLA. The Wildcats played a hard-fought game and look poised to make a strong run in March.

Throughout last week, I met with employees of Arizona Optical Systems in Tucson,   members of Pantsuit Nation Tucson  and AARP members to discuss medicare and other senior health issues.

· Flake spent last week meeting with local stakeholders and constituents throughout Arizona.

· Flake penned an op-ed in Daily Miner about the importance of protecting state sovereignty over species management and ensuring swift access to justice for Arizonans. Flake highlights his bill requiring the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to work with Arizona and New Mexico on a new recovery plan for the Mexican gray wolf, as well as his legislation to break up the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. op-ed here

· Reading, Writing, and Ripping Off Taxpayers: In an op-ed for The Cincinnati Enquirer, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) cited an example in Flake’s 2015 Wastebook of wasteful spending at the Department of Education. full story here.

· The Payson Roundup reports on Flake’s bill to require the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to work with local stakeholders to draft a new recovery plan for the Mexican gray wolf. full story here

· The Mohave Daily News reports on Flake’s bill to increase private land ownership in Mohave County by establishing a process for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to sell federally-owned land through a public process at fair market value. This would allow Mohave County, which is nearly 70 percent federally owned, to expand its property tax base and diversify its economy. full story here.

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

300 word limit. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

2018 US Senate Candidate Kelli Ward: People have asked why I oppose forced paid leave. First and foremost, I believe in small gov’t and less regulation as well as the free market and competition. Have you ever owned a business? And do you understand freedom & capitalism in the US vs. forced participation, high taxes, & socialism in Europe? Some downsides to gov’t mandated paid leave:

   · Paying someone for 3 months while no work is being produced by that person.

   · Saving someone's job for 3 months while forcing others who aren't on leave to make due with less.

   · Hiring a temporary worker to fill in and having to pay twice as much for the same work to be done.

What happens if the person gets paid for three months and decides not to return to your business? How do you recoup the money? You cannot recoup the time. And now you are in the hole because you have to take more time to find a new worker and more time to train him/her. Businesses struggle under unpaid FMLA now. It's a losing proposition for most small businesses and some large ones as well. Gov’t needs to get out of the way. Businesses should determine if they want to offer paid leave or not. We don't need another gov’t mandate. We need the free market and competition to #MAGA
