Republican Briefs

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel has called on Democrats to denounce their chairman's rhetoric about Republicans and President Donald Trump. McDaniel told "Fox & Friends" on Monday that it's "deeply concerning to see the head of the Democrat Party continue to try to delegitimize this election."… “To say Republicans don’t give a blank about people — that should not be rhetoric the head of the Democrat Party should be using,” McDaniel said. “He keeps talking about ‘resist’ … Are they going to resist better jobs, are they going to resist a better economy, are they going to resist better national security?'" Things Are Getting Interesting In LD13 as Senator Steve Montenegro has announced his run for Secretary of State in2018. Former LD13 Senator Don Shooter, now Rep Don Shooter, hasn’t decided if he will run for his prior senate seat. Rep Darrin Mitchell has reportedly said he’s wants to stay in the House, so apparently he isn’t ready to run for the Senate - just yet anyway. Trey Terry, an Iraq War vet activist, is reportedly considering a run for the LD13 House seat.

Congrats to Jennifer Griffith, former Graham County GOP Secretary, was recognized as the 2016 Precinct Committeeman Of The Year at the recent Graham County Republican Lincoln Day luncheon. Kip and Kyle Kempton, owners of Kempton Chevrolet, were honored for Outstanding Support To The Committee.

PC Alice Lara: Thank you so much for getting the Sheriff Mark Dannels posting in 4-3-17-briefs. He's driving in that day and driving back that night with his wife as he has a busy schedule to get back to...he is so committed.  Now with the absence of our Sheriff Joe it's important to highlight these good guys! Gracias for all you do!!

Darcy Olsen, CEO Goldwater Institute: Free speech is one of the most important rights our Constitution protects—that includes both the right to say what you think and the right to not subsidize speech you disagree with. Thomas Jefferson called it “sinful and tyrannical” “to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves.” Yet today government often lets powerful interest groups take money from people to promote political views those people don’t support. That happened to attorney Arnold Fleck when he supported a ballot initiative in his home state of North Dakota. He donated money to the “yes” campaign, and even appeared on television to support the initiative—only to learn the state bar was spending his own bar dues to oppose him. We took Mr. Fleck’s case, and this week, Goldwater Institute attorney Jim Manley will defend Mr. Fleck’s freedom of speech before the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Forcing people to fund speech with which they disagree is “sinful and tyrannical”—it’s also unconstitutional. You can learn more about our work in defending free speech here: fleck-v-mcdonald Your support is critical to our success.

Activist Anita Christy: Stop the National Popular Vote Compact in Arizona. "Democracy" has a nice ring to it: One Person, One Vote.  However, that's exactly what the Founders did not want: Majority (aka Mob) Rule. When Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A Republic, if you can keep it."  Ours is a Constitutional Republic, but only if we, the people, care enough to participate in keeping it.

The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF) is encouraging all nonprofit organizations that offer child abuse prevention programs to apply for funding through the Child Abuse Prevention License Plate Program.   Last year, $454,696 was awarded to 19 organizations across the state.  "The Child Abuse License Plate Program is an innovative way for everyday citizens to support Arizona's most vulnerable children," stated Debbie Moak, Director of the Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family. "There is no higher priority than the safety and well-being of our children and families." This specialty plate has been available for purchase from the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division since November of 1999.  Currently there are more than 16,000 vehicles registered in the program. Plates are sold for $25 each, of which $8 is a special plate administration fee and $17 is a tax deductible annual donation. See application at: faith-and-community/grants. The grant application will remain open until April 20, 2017.

Congressman Paul Gosar: Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Paul A. Gosar following the announcement from the Department of the Interior  of a proposal to repeal the Obama Administration’s Consolidated Federal Oil & Gas and Indian Coal Valuation Reform Rule in its entirety: Gosar remarked, “I am thrilled to hear that Secretary Zinke is taking action to roll back another duplicative and costly  regulation from the Obama Administration. ONRR’s valuation rule would disproportionately impact small producers by burying them with compliance costs, ultimately driving up energy prices for everyday consumers. By taking steps to repeal this unconstitutional tax on job creators, the Trump Administration continues to follow through on the promise to get America back on the path toward energy independence and job creation.”
