Activist Stephen Sivigliano: Better late than never, to fire Comey.  It would be nice to see Col. Allen West, or Sheriff David Clark get the job, but there are plenty more great people to choose from, if they are willing to walk bare-footed across those hot coals.

Arizona Project Chr Ron Ludders: “Comey's Gone - that's a good thing.  Watch the Democrats squeal.  They didn't like him six months ago, now they use him to get to Trump.  Phony baloney.”

Pima County Republicans have scheduled a “Vote No on Prop 101 Sign Wave” at 4:30 pm, Thurs., May 11 at Campbell Fair Shopping Center, (SW corner of Ft Lowell and Campbell). Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: It is very confusing to me to read the comments flying back and forth regarding what is going on, and not going on, in the AZ GOP these days.  Now it seems that leadership is demanding that the Executive Committee sign Non-Disclosure Documents regarding their participation in the Party's business. Really? Non-Disclosure of what? (Editor’s Note: Morrissey refers to Navajo County Navajo County Republican Committee Steven Slaton’s statement “Furthermore it’s been brought to our attention that the newly elected AZGOP Executive Committee has to sign non-disclosure forms.” 5-10-2017briefs ) Is it necessary to remind us all that this Party belongs to ALL of us and that the business of our Party should always be transparent and stand on integrity?  We have not only the right to know what is transpiring in our party but we have the duty to make certain that our processes are conducted in the glaring light of day.  The county chairs are the representatives of the precinct committeemen, and just as importantly are the very backbone of OUR party. It is they who should come together, as one entity, and address what is becoming a deep divide among us with Chairman Lines.  As a past chairman, I urge our present chairman to accept the fact that, like our other elected officials,  he works for us, "we the people", and not vice versa.  He should serve his constituents and not attempt to rule them.

Frank Riggs, candidate for State Supt of Public Instruction, responds to Supt Diane Douglas' statement in the May 6th Briefs. 2017_05_06_archive  Incumbent Douglas' call for a permanent $400 million per year increase in the Prop 301 sales tax is the wrong message by the wrong messenger. Sales taxes are regressive and disproportionately impact fixed and low-income individuals, many of them seniors. Mrs. Douglas' tenure has been characterized by incompetency, mismanagement and lawsuits and now she wants to raise our sales taxes by $400 million every year in perpetuity. If Mrs. Douglas is so concerned about funding for our K-12 schools, why has the Arizona Department of Education, which she oversees, spent over $4 million for travel costs and legal fees in her short 2 1/2 years in office (Arizona Daily Independent: "Douglas Pushes False Narrative To Get Additional Funding," April 10, 2017)?  Furthermore, according to the State Auditor General, only 53.5 cents of every education dollar went to the classroom in 2015, the lowest level of classroom spending in the 16 years the state has been keeping track. Mrs. Douglas' proposal is an obvious publicity ploy to bolster her reelection prospects.  It has no chance of winning support from the Legislature or public.  I intend to make the Department of Education accountable to parents, educators and taxpayers and will demonstrate the integrity, competence and executive leadership we need from our state's schools chief.

Central AZ Project Board Member Mark Lewis is calling for those interesting in keeping the coal power plants operating in Arizona to speak at the 1 pm., Mon., May 15 Department of the Interior listening session in Phoenix. Location to be announced. He is also asking for 45 protestors to show up with protest signs saying “Save coal mining jobs.” A second listening session is scheduled from 4-7 pm May 17 in Page, AZ. Contact Lewis at 602-499-3095.

The Department of the Interior will host public listening sessions on the future of the Navajo Generating Station (NGS) on Mon., May 15 and Wed., May 17. The NGS is a three-unit, 2,250 megawatt, coal-fired power plant located on tribal trust lands leased from the Navajo Nation near Page, Arizona. Coal for NGS comes exclusively from the Kayenta Mine located on tribal trust lands leased from the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe. The NGS co-owners have expressed their intention to not operate the facility after December 2019; as a result, stakeholders associated with NGS have been discussing the future of the facility with one another. The intent of the meetings is to tell the Department of the Interior what residents think should be the future of NGS. The Department of the Interior will not be responding to comments or answering questions at these listening sessions. Comments may be submitted in writing at the listening sessions or submitted electronically before or after the listening sessions at ngs@usbr.gov. A court reporter will be present to create a record of the listening sessions. Navajo and Hopi translators will be present at the May 17, 2017 listening session. Contact: Department of the Interior at ngs@usbr.gov.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: Taking a look at MCRC Brief’s 5-10-2017briefs, we see that that the 16 leader of the state AZ GOP cannot play as a team. (Not to discount the LD chairs but they share with the county chairs the same PCs).  Suppose the coach of the Arizona Cardinals told the team while on the playing field, just do your best, no plays.  How many games are then expected to be won? First we have Chairman Slaton seeking support on an issue from other county chairmen.  Then Chairman Rhodes didn’t like the message that chairman Slaton sent and demanded to be dropped from Chairman Slaton’s email list.  In the meantime Chairman Sias (who is also a AZGOP Bylaws Committee member which has not yet met.) wrote,” Not only is the delay to turn the treasurer's job over to the new treasurer, but it is a violation of our bylaws (such as they are), AND there are ALSO violations of state laws involved with this monkey business.” On a parting note things may be looking brighter, “Slaton responded, “Congratulations for all of your success, we’re very happy for you! This has nothing to do with that! We’re asking for an audit. This is not difficult. You should be on board, it’s your responsibility!” Since this Exchange, I have gotten other County Chairman wanting the state AZGOP to comply with the bylaws. Fellow Chairman Russell Sais of La Paz County wants the AZGOP to comply with the State bylaws, along with Pinal County Chairman Michael Burke, Apache County Chairman Tom Samoff. With added support from LD16 Chairman Jerry Clingman, Peter Mains, Gene Klund, Nancy Ordowski and many more. And in the meantime we see that the leader of this 16 man team, Chairman Lines, says - SILENCE.  NO!  We see more important things like Backpage contributions to Rep Sinema (D).   And from the state ExCom - - SILENCE.  Well, it’s your party.  What say you??  SILENCE

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

(300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited)

Congressman Paul Gosar: “I support the recommendation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that former FBI Director Comey needed to go. President Trump’s subsequent action is justified. Along with mishandling the Hillary Clinton private email server investigation, James Comey became a distraction to the important work of the Bureau by interfering with the FBI’s ability to uphold the Rule of Law and conduct independent investigations. Senior law enforcement officials should not engage in politics or predetermine outcomes. Confirmation of a new FBI Director will allow the agency to continue its important mission and restore trust with the American people.”

Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) and Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-02) after introducing H.R. 2371, the Western Area Power Administration Transparency Act, which requires the administrator of the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) to establish a pilot project to increase transparency of costs and rates: “Despite repeated demands from power customers and Congress, WAPA has refused to be transparent about the agency’s expenditures,” stated Gosar. “More recently, numerous audits and news reports have surfaced documenting millions of dollars of waste and fraudulent activity.  I’m proud to team up with Congresswoman Sinema, Senators Flake and McCain, as well as countless other colleagues and stakeholders in the West to inject some much-needed transparency into the agency.”  “Arizonans expect and deserve a government that works for them and roots out waste, fraud and abuse,” said Sinema. “Nonpartisan audits show WAPA misused millions of dollars, which calls into question the necessity of recent cost and rate increases that get passed on to Arizona families and small businesses. Our bipartisan bill improves transparency and accountability at WAPA. I will continue working with Congressman Gosar and Senators Flake and McCain to move this and other efforts forward.” See The Western Area Power Administration Transparency Act, H.R. 2371, here. Sponsors and Cosponsors: Paul Gosar*, Kyrsten Sinema*, Andy Biggs, Trent Franks, Jared Huffman, Doug LaMalfa, Martha McSally, Kristi Noem, Tom O’Halleran and David Schweikert. Senators Flake, McCain and King have introduced companion legislation in the form of S.930

WAPA is one of four Power Marketing Administrations that delivers hydropower and related services from federal facilities to nearly 700 preference customers that include federal and state agencies, cities, electric cooperatives, tribes, as well as public utility and irrigation districts. Specifically, WAPA markets power from 56 hydropower plants to more than 40,000,000 people in 15 states.
