5-12-17 Briefs

Navajo County Republican Chairman Steven Slaton: With the upcoming congressional campaigns getting ready to unfold, we here in Congressional District One in Arizona, once again are faced with so many candidates running for this office the odds are very likely we will experience another loss.  Therefore, we’ve formed a Vetting Committee at the NCRC.  Our newly formed committee is going to be vetting all candidates running for office.  Our team has put together tough questions for candidates and we will be interviewing them when they come to our Navajo County Republican Committee Meetings. We are not going to hold anything back on questioning these candidates and will support only the candidate we feel can WIN.   We’ll do everything in our power to win back CD-1. The only way this will happen is that we have one strong candidate. Several other Counties in CD-1 are going to do the same.  If you’re County is facing the same possible loss due to so many candidates running, ending up in a circular firing squad, you need to do the same. I’ll keep you posted on our progress in this Vetting Process. I know this will upset those who may not make it through our vetting, but Arizona only had a 3% to 5% lead over the Democrats in the last election.  Our goal is to keep Arizona RED! We cannot take anything for granted, so let’s put forward the best candidate possible this year that can win back our CD-1 Seat in 2018. Contact Slaton at 602-300-5376 or

National Assoc of Former Patrol Officers Chairman Zack Taylor: I urge you to read this article and watch the video. Questions Remain Over US Border Agent's Shooting Death Near Bisbee We agree with Mr. Ashurst's assessment and we strongly suspected at that time that this was an ambush murder of a Border Patrol Agent that the government covered up likely for political purposes.

PC John Powelson: This is one of the NAFTA Highways started way back in the 90’s without fanfare or public knowledge of what they were and are doing. Let’s not allow them to continue to do business this way. Shut this monster down. It is a part of the Agenda 21 plan to do away with the USA and every border in the world. The right of Way they are taking is much larger than a four lane highway and is planned for use as a toll way with rail and pipeline service in the mix. This is why the government under Obama was not going along with any private pipelines to compete with the ones planned within these toll roads. Ever hear of the SPP? Security Prosperity Partnership, President Bush signed on to in 2005 or 6. ‘STILL ON TABLE’ here’s-the-first-glimpse-of-arizona’s-proposed-interstate I-11 began as the Canamex Corridor. As defined by Congress in the 1995 National Highway Systems Designation Act, the corridor is a joint effort involving Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Utah and Montana. It calls for the development of a continuous four-lane roadway from Mexico through the U.S. into Canada to facilitate trade among the three countries and minimize traffic and congestion. The federal government has spent about $500 million on the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales and the Hoover Bypass Bridge in Northern Arizona. I-11 would be the connection between the two. Proponents believe the interstate would expedite southbound exports to Mexico and — from the Port of Guaymas — to markets in Latin America, Europe and Asia. Northbound imports could avoid city traffic and connect from I-19 to the Port of Tucson or move to markets on the East Coast via I-10. Opponents have said widening I-10 and double-decking parts in Pima County would serve the same purpose without additional infrastructure in the desert. John Moffatt, Pima County’s director of strategic planning, said all ideas will be evaluated. “It’s still on the table,” he said of double-decking parts of I-10. He said the county continues to collect feedback from residents potentially affected by the new interstate and to work with tribal and state land officials to propose a route with minimum impact. “We are trying to be sensitive,” Moffatt said.

The Payson Wildlife Festival is scheduled between 9am-3 pm Sat., May 13 in the Green Valley Park in Payson. Free admission. Parents and kids can fish, play games and get a closes-up look at wildlife, including birds of prey, rattlesnakes, Gila monsters and more. There will be booths from various conservation and sporting groups. Green Valley Lake will receive more than double its usual stocking of trout in preparation for this event. No fishing license is required for festival attendees, and equipment and bait can be borrowed from the free fishing booth. The Payson Wildlife Festival is a cooperative event between the Arizona Game and Fish Department, Mogollon Sporting Association, US Forest Service and Payson Parks & Recreation Department.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: In an interview with a county chairman almost 20 years ago the subject of disagreement came up about what the state party leadership was doing.  The county chairman interviewed was not interested in what the state leadership was doing, he was content to be the BMOC in his county.  In reading the MCRC Briefs seems that not much has changed in 20 years!!  The autocratic, and ignored AZ GOP bylaws have not really been touched in all that time and apathy shows that the state committeemen, in general, don’t give a darn; and a few county chairs fall into the same category.  The current, antiquated AZ GOP bylaws state, “The executive committee shall approve the annual budget and review and counsel the state chairman on all programs relating to the state party. The executive committee shall meet at least three times each year.”  Does anyone have a formal record of this ever being done?  In the May 11 Briefs Tom Morrissey states, “I urge our present chairman to accept the fact that, like our other elected officials,  he works for us, "we the people", and not vice versa.  He should serve his constituents and not attempt to rule them.”  One would think now that Morrissey wished that when he was chair that he had initiated a bylaws update with the rule of WE THE PEOPLE dominate in the bylaws and penalties for violation.  Chairman Jonathon Lines seems to ignore the fact that he should be involved in the bylaws committee he created, and from what evidence is available, seems that Chairman Sias still spinning his wheels without Lines support! As reported by Morrissey, “Now it seems that leadership is demanding that the Executive Committee sign Non-Disclosure Documents regarding their participation in the Party's business. Really? Non-Disclosure of what?” Does it get worse??  When the most of the county chairmen set on their butt and choose not to get involved in LEADERSHIP, what the hell does one expect!?

Frank Riggs, candidate for AZ Supt of Public Instruction, recently appeared on local television talk shows.  Upon seeing him on television, his three-year old granddaughter commented, "Papa, you're not supposed to be on TV," and then, "Papa, you don't have enough hair."  Ah, from the mouths of babes.  schools-chief-douglas-faces-new-republican-primary-foe

Sen Jeff Flake: Enough is enough. The “9th Circus” madness must end. Arizonans deserve justice from the mountain west, not California. That’s why I’ve sponsored a bill to move Arizona into a new circuit. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is too large to be effective and has been for too long. 20% of our nation’s population lives in the 9th and it houses 40% of our nation’s landmass. They take 15 months to make a decision because they are so backed up in their work. There’s no reason to protect an overworked and overburdened Court. I’ve introduced a bill with John McCain that will split the 9th and create a new, 12th Circuit Court of Appeals because Arizonans and other Western states don’t have the bedrock principle of swift justice found in the rest of our nation. Justice delayed is justice denied.  We need courts that are fair and effective for everyone, not political institutions. Let’s make it happen.
