6-26-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Bruce M Piepho, Cochise County Precinct/State Committeeman: June 17, 2017, Executive Committee (EC) meeting demonstrated sensational breach of trust after EC acting secretary Kim Owens, said, “This is nothing but a witch hunt!.” And that phrase, “permanent records: In the bylaws that means the MINUTES! ONLY THE MINUTES!Who is Kim Owens? And should she have been shut down as being out of order? Something must be done about ignoring the By-laws by state Chairman Jonathan Lines and associates. Is By-laws Chair Kathie Petsas a EC member? Matthew Kenney, hired executive director, should not be a member and should not have been allowed to speak. Matthew Kenney speaking up also needed a POINT of ORDER to shut down participation by non-voting audience. The AZGOP Executive Committee meeting was very pitiful. Chairman Lines is in violation of AZGOP By-laws. Roberts Rules of Order is being used to keep power and control over AZGOP functions and meetings. PCs especially those on the Executive Committee must learn at least basics of Roberts-Rules of Order.  I agree with questions raised by Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: The meeting was Pitiful, wasn’t it?? Where is it written that members of a committee are secret?? What gives? Voting to ignore the bylaws???

Marianne Ferrari LD20 PC and State CommitteemanQuestion #1: As treasurer, why would Jonathan Lines fail to call for the 2016 audit prior to the Statutory Meeting, as bylaws require? Was it simply incompetence? If not, then was Lines inattentive to, or often absent from his job? Or was he really just Treasurer-in-Name-Only? See Ferrari’s complete statement at 175-Days-And-Counting-Jonathan-Lines-In-Perpetual-Breach-Of-AZGOP

The National Center for Police Defense (NCPD) recently hand delivered more than 40,000 petitions to U.S. Department of Justice to drop the charges against the former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Apaio. NCPD raised nearly $300,000 to help with Arpaio's legal defense costs as he faces trail starting Mon., June 26, for contempt of court brought by the ACLU.  NCPD will be onsite to monitor the trial as Arpaio’s fate will be solely decided by federal Judge Susan Bolton, unless the United States Supreme Court intervenes to allow Arpaio to have a jury trial.   NCPD says this case has been political from the beginning when the Obama DOJ filed their misdemeanor charges against Arpaio just two weeks before the election. This action by the DOJ was a break in longtime tradition and protocol wherein the DOJ typically refrains from taking legal action against an elected official so close to an election in order to avoid influencing the outcome. “With over 55 years of law enforcement experience, Sheriff Arpaio has always followed and enforced the laws on the books. Now, the DOJ wants to put him in prison for enforcing the very laws he swore an oath to uphold,” says James Fotis, President of NCPD. "During his 24 years as Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arpaio enforced existing illegal immigration laws.  Now the Department of Justice wants to put him behind bars for six months while the very illegal immigrants he has arrested over the years walk free.  If the DOJ is successful in prosecuting Sheriff Joe Arpaio, it will be a huge miscarriage of justice and a clear example of political assassination by our federal government against a sitting local elected official.  That sets a dangerous precedent and one Judge Bolton should reject.” Contact: Cassandre Durocher with Shirley & Banister Public Affairs at (703) 739-5920 or cdurocher@sbpublicaffairs.com

Former-Sheriff-Joe-Arpaio-To-Face-Day-Of-Reckoning-In-Court The political career of JOE ARPAIO ended last year when the six-term sheriff of metro Phoenix known for cracking down on illegal immigration and housing inmates in tents outside in the desert heat was trounced in an election that focused on his own legal troubles. Now, the 85-year-old who called himself America’s toughest sheriff will face his day of reckoning in court for defying a judge’s order to stop traffic patrols that targeted immigrants….”

Former AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey: Sheriff Joe heads to Kangaroo Court.  This is the most outrageous violation of common sense and decency I have ever seen and I'm glad got the chance to say so in this article.  Go Joe!  May God be with you. “…Tom Morrissey, a retired chief U.S. marshal who has been a friend of Arpaio's for more than two decades, said the former sheriff's supporters are furious about how he's being treated in the courts and in news coverage. That fury is growing. Joe is just one of the victims of a corrupt process and a corrupt system," said Morrissey, a former state GOP chairman…Former-Sheriff-Joe-Arpaio

Activist Anna Morrison: It will be interesting to see how many supposed Kelli Ward supporters will jump ship if Jeff DeWit or another high profile Arizona Republican should throw their hat in the ring.  Once again, Kelli will go down in red flames!

AzCDL Is Raffling Off A New-In-Box, Never Fired, second generation GSG-5 .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle donated by AzCDL Life Member Stephen Wenger.  With its faux suppressor, the GSG-5 resembles the H&K MP5SD.  This is a collectible with an interesting history. The GSG-5 was built by German Sports Guns (GSG) GmbH and sold through American Tactical Imports (ATI). There was a U.S. recall of the first generation guns after ATF ruled that the original GSG-5 barrel shroud was a functioning suppressor.  Production of the second generation GSG-5 ceased in 2009 after a lawsuit by Heckler & Koch over the close resemblance of the GSG-5 to their MP5.  In 2010, ATI said they will continue to service every firearm that they import into the USA and they still sell GSG-5 magazines at their website.  The rifle AzCDL raffling is a second generation model - marked "1st Anniversary GSG-5" - with a true faux suppressor. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at AzCDL's online store.  Only 300 tickets will be sold. The drawing will be conducted as soon at all the tickets are sold, or at AzCDL's October annual meeting of members, whichever comes first.

Trump Signs Legislation Giving VA More Power To Fire Failed Employees …Trump doing more for veterans than McCains has done in three decades.

With-Media-Thumb-On-Scales-Again-Anti-Trump-Sales-Pitch-Still-Produces-Result-Weighing-Zero …”Rob Haney, a strong Trump supporter and retired chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Party, based in Phoenix, told The Wanderer on June 21 that he didn’t expect the president’s foes to end their attacks, despite the GOP Georgia victory. “I do not expect the Democrats or Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) to let up with their attacks on Trump. The Communists, socialists, and Islamists have never abandoned their key objectives, and neither will the RINOs,” Haney said.“Even though the Arizona Republican RINO senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, are among the lowest-rated politicians by the American people, they still launch their incessant attacks on Trump and his agenda. “The RINOs are leftist ideologues opposed to a smaller, responsive, conservative government. They will deceive, but they will not change. They can only be defeated,” Haney said.

President Trump On Democrats Resisting The Healthcare Bill: The level of hostility. As an example, the healthcare bill as you are reporting on and as others are reporting on. It would be so great if the Democrats and Republicans could get together, wrap their arms around it so that everybody is happy with it. It is so easy, but we won't get one Democrat vote, not one. If it was the greatest bill ever proposed in mankind we wouldn't get a vote and that is a terrible thing. Well, their theme is resist. I've never heard of anything like this, resist.

President Trump On The VA Accountability Bill That Was Signed Into Law: Well, it's really an accountability bill. You had people that would be in the VA and they wouldn't work or they would do much worse than that. And you couldn’t fire them, you couldn’t get rid of them. They were hanging around, they were receiving money, they weren't taking care of our veterans. And I made the promise that I would take care of our veterans if I win. And you know they voted for me overwhelmingly. I just had it in my own heart, I had a very strong obligation to take care of them. We had it pass. Tom Cotton and so many other people were so involved – Mr. Roe who you know very well. They worked so hard and so long on that and that was tough one to get through. And now they do have accountability.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

Western Caucus Chairman Paul A. Gosar after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 1873, the Electricity Reliability and Forest Protection Act, by a bipartisan vote of 300-118: “This bill is common sense, plain and simple and I thank my colleagues for leading the charge on this important issue. Maintaining healthy and well-managed rights-of-way is important for many reasons, not the least of which are the safety of our communities and reliable electricity delivery. Rolling the dice on forest safety is not just unwise, it’s flat out irresponsible” said Gosar. “Unfortunately, inconsistent and unpredictable viewpoints between federal land managers at the Departments of Interior and Agriculture have prevented co-ops from ensuring safety along the corridors, putting many at risk. I am pleased to see this bill passed by the House today and encourage the Senate to quickly do the same.” Full release here .

Western Caucus Chairman Paul A. Gosar after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 1654, the Water Supply Permitting Coordination Act, by a bipartisan vote of 233-180: "By creating a one-stop permitting shop with the Bureau of Reclamation at the helm, this bill will streamline the permitting process for vital water storage projects,” remarked Gosar. “Ranchers, agricultural and municipal water providers and other important stakeholders in the West deserve a clear process that forgoes needless bureaucracy, and I am pleased to see the House pass this much-needed legislation.” Full release HERE .

Chairman Paul A. Gosar and Western Caucus member Rep. Tom Emmer (MN-06) after touring several mining operations, conducting a stakeholder meeting, and visiting the proposed federal withdrawal area adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness outside of the city of Ely, Minnesota: “The Obama Administration waged its war on mining until the very last days of its tenure and the ramifications of those activities have far reaching negative impacts on our local economies, jobs and K-12 education systems. By proposing a massive mineral withdrawal of more than 425,000 acres of land when you include state and private land in northern Minnesota, the Obama Administration attempted to decimate a crucial component of the Minnesota economy and wreaked havoc on the public education system in the state. When more than 17,000 jobs and billions of dollars in revenue are at stake, legacy building at the expense of our children’s future and education is simply unacceptable,” said  Gosar. “Today we heard from families, business owners and local stakeholders who know that we can create these jobs and protect Minnesota’s recreational economy.  I am proud to join my colleagues in calling on Secretary Zinke and Secretary Purdue to rescind this flat out assault on the mining industry and move these projects forward.”
