7-28-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

PC John Backer Responds To Hit Piece: You know you are hitting close to home when those you oppose attempt to attack you personally. The best they could come up with was to attack a portion of my voting record. I might have missed some primaries due to my travel schedule, but I voted in EVERY general election since 2008. They tried to diminish my calling for a recall of Chairman Lines by suggesting that I’m doing the bidding of others or that I have confronted the Establishment in hopes of earning a paid office in the next election. I can say with absolute certainty that BOTH of those accusations are FALSE. The accuser ends the attempted hit piece by asking, “Who …could be pulling the strings?” That is answered above; however, there is no doubt whose hand is up your back.

A number of people were attacked and nobody listed needs me to defend them. Each paragraph starts with name calling: “Never Trumper”, “The Sore Loser”, “The Puppeteer”, “The Puppet”, “The Dishonest Secretary”, “The Fake News Maven”, “The Failed Chairman”, “The Pitch Man”, “The Two-Time Loser”, and “The Author/Publisher”. We now see how some might think that the Republicans and Democrats are different sides of the same coin.

In attacking Secretary Mercer, the writer suggests that the “permanent records according to Robert’s Rules of Order” are limited to meeting minutes, but Roberts Rules of Order paints a much different prospective . Although the writer indicates that the Chairman doesn’t have the permanent records, it is clear he is in possession of contact information for State Committee Members.

I only got to know Briefs Editor Frosty Taylor as I started to measure what State Committee members were thinking in relation to Chairman Lines and a potential recall. Taylor, reached out to get some details about who I was and what I was doing. To call what she does “fake news” is simply a lame attempt to not only marginalize her, but also the thoughts, concerns and opinions of the grass roots of the party that are clearly not being heard considering the feedback from the June 17th Ex-com meeting in Flagstaff.

It is unfortunate that surrogates and Chairman Lines are engaged in attacks on the grassroots rather than engaging them in constructive dialogue. Mr. Kenney has been honest enough to admit the truth to Ms. Mercer – the donors matter, the grassroots do not. I believe, as our President, that when someone hits you, you hit back. I am fully prepared to do so if necessary.

Former Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Lyle Tuttle: Compare a corporation to the AZGOP. A business hires a CEO; AZGOP elects a State Chairman. The CEO and the State Chair have the RESPONSIBILITY to direct the day to day operation of their respective organization. Both elect or appoint PERSONS to serve as Officers. They elect a BOARD of DIRECTORS, who ensure that the Officers adhere to the plans agreed to by all. (“ALL” means the PC’s or STOCKHOLDERS who elected the persons who serve in each of those capacities. STOCKHOLDERS invested money; PC’s invested far more – their time and energy.) The STOCKHOLDERS and the PC’s have the RIGHT and the RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that those who they elected fulfill their RESPONSIBILITY to adhere to the bylaws that govern all involved.

If the train “runs off the track”, or any OFFICER fails in their duties, the BOARD steps in and ‘corrects’ whoever is not living up to their RESPONSIBILITIES. So the BOARD is the ‘leveling’ authority ensuring that the entity is following the bylaws. Failure of the CEO to “run things according to Hoyle” and the BOARD ‘corrects’ the CEO, or they vote him out and find a replacement. If the BOARD fails to do that, the STOCKHOLDERS (PC’s) have the authority to step in and make the necessary changes.

It boils down to the STOCKHOLDER or the PC’s to insure that the entity follows the bylaws and the train remains “on the track”. Otherwise, they can sell their stock or resign from the Party. If too many STOCKHOLDERS sell their stock; or too many PC’s resign, what happens to the orig entity? Who is ultimately RESPONSIBLE? Are the STOCKHOLDERS of the AZGOP going to ensure that they are governed by bylaws that are being followed? It boils down to YOU: Can you honestly look in the mirror and tell yourself that the person looking back at you is living up to their RESPONSIBILITIES??

Don & Patti Woolley of Sahuarita: Seems Sen John McCain lied, and Gov Doug Ducey is for Medicaid expansion - after campaigning for Gov. against it…Then the Senate moved to consider another second-degree amendment, numbered #271, offered by Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. That amendment was a replay of the 2015 ObamaCare Repeal Reconciliation Act – a clean, up-or-down vote on straight repeal of many of the essential elements of ObamaCare. That amendment, too, failed, by a vote of 45-55. Seven Republicans crossed party lines to vote with the Democrats to kill it.The seven Republicans were Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, John McCain of Arizona, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Dean Heller of Nevada, and Rob Portman of Ohio.

· McCain on voting “no” on the so-called “skinny repeal” of Obamacare: “From the beginning, I have believed that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with a solution that increases competition, lowers costs, and improves care for the American people. The so-called ‘skinny repeal’ amendment the Senate voted on today would not accomplish those goals. While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacare’s most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens. The Speaker's statement that the House would be ‘willing’ to go to conference does not ease my concern that this shell of a bill could be taken up and passed at any time. I’ve stated time and time again that one of the major failures of Obamacare was that it was rammed through Congress by Democrats on a strict-party line basis without a single Republican vote. We should not make the mistakes of the past that has led to Obamacare’s collapse, including in my home state of Arizona where premiums are skyrocketing and health care providers are fleeing the marketplace. We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation’s governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people. We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve.”
