10-Unusual-Fourth-Of-July-Facts You Probably Do Not Know

LD20 Activisit Vera Anderson: July 4th always has lots of memories. 7/4/1998 was one of those times. If you remember the old Rawhide at Scottsdale Rd & Pinnacle Peak Rd they had an awesome fireworks show at the time. A couple of friends and myself went to see the fireworks that night. Coming home driving West on Dynamite Road we were hit head on and our car rolled into a ditch. We were all injured but not seriously. Broken ribs, cuts, etc. They took us to the hospital and my friend’s car was totaled. Here is the kicker. WE WERE HIT BY 3 ILLEGALS THAT RAN FROM THEIR TRUCK WHERE THEY JUST LEFT IT IN THE ROAD AND FLED. Never knew what happen to them but know they were not held responsible for the accident, the loss of my friend’s car or our hospital bills. Be careful out there this 4th of July, be safe.

Steve Chucri, District 2 - Maricopa County Board of Supervisors: Happy Independence Day. Let our Independence Day celebrations remind us how deeply fortunate we are as Americans to live in this great nation. Our democracy continues to be a model for the world.

The Yavapai County Republican Committee: Hope you and your family have an enjoyable holiday! Never forget the courage and wisdom that our forefathers showed on July 4th, 241 years ago. May we remain ever-vigilant in our defense of the liberty for which they, and many since, have sacrificed so much.

Arpaio-Trial-Another-Example-Why-Can’t-GOP-Pull-Away-Curtains-Of-Confusion-On-Health-Care The trial continued as this hardcopy issue of The Wanderer went to press on June 29. Arizona GOP activist and former Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Rob Haney, a fan of both President Donald Trump and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, told The Wanderer on June 28: “I am disappointed that Trump has not yet withdrawn this Obama-initiated, DOJ politically motivated prosecution of Sheriff Arpaio and thereby made moot the contempt-of-court case. The judge has already shown his prejudice against Arpaio.” Haney said culpability for judicial prejudice applies both to the federal judge who had harassed Arpaio, G. Murray Snow, and the federal judge trying the criminal case without a jury, Susan Bolton. “And, truth be known,” Haney added, “the courts and Obama have shown nothing but contempt for those of us attempting to enforce the law against Obama’s non-enforcement policies. Trump knows the lengths the ‘left’ will go to in order to destroy a political opponent. Trump should immediately end this charade.”

Ken Cuccinelli II - President, Senate Conservatives Action” The health care bill written by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is yet another betrayal. After promising to repeal Obamacare "root and branch" and after using the issue to win countless elections, Mitch McConnell is now trying to keep the worst parts of Obamacare. McConnell's bill keeps Obamacare's coverage mandates, it keeps Obamacare's costly Medicaid spending, and it keeps Obamacare's subsidies. And now there's talk that it may include a mandate. If it passes, it will lead to endless bailouts, price increases, and debt – all blamed on Republicans and the free market. Please help us push Senate Republicans to repeal, not restore, Obamacare before it's too late. Senate Republicans only have one chance to pass an Obamacare bill with 50 votes using reconciliation so they need to get it right.Thankfully, Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Ron Johnson (R-WI) are demanding changes that will lower health care costs. But they need our support. Help us fight back right now. Mitch McConnell's bill keeps both the root and the branch of Obamacare, which breaks the promise he made and puts millions of American families at risk. The choice isn't this bill or Obamacare. Senate Republicans can pass a bill to repeal, not restore, Obamacare. They did it a year ago when they were campaigning and it's what they should do now. We have already helped Americans send over 600,000 messages to Senate Republicans, but we need your help to ramp this up before the Senate considers an Obamacare bill. Please make a secure, online contribution to Senate Conservatives Action before it's too late. We will keep you updated on this debate and let you know what you can do to help repeal. P.S. Trump Goes After States On Voter Data: 'What Are They Trying To Hide?' President Trump on Saturday blasted the more than two dozen states refusing to comply with his election integrity commission's request for voter data, asking "What are they trying to hide?" More than half of the states, representing bipartisan resistance, have so far refused to provide all or some of the voter information requested by Trump's Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. LD21 PC Randy Miller: State Legislators and the Constitution - The other day I attended a panel discussion between legislators, 2 senators and 4 representatives, and a representative from WeMar’s Government affairs committee. The questions were predetermined, provided ahead of time and there were no questions allowed from the audience. The panel of legislators represented themselves well and showed a genuine interest in their position. One of the questions was referring to the medical marijuana law in Arizona and what can legislators do to protect citizens from federal law prohibiting marijuana as a schedule one drug. The answer from the 2 Senators that got the question was they “didn’t think there was anything they could do because it is from the federal government”. They said it is up to our federal legislators to do something. Folks, this is scary. When your state legislators make no effort to learn about and know the law they have taken an oath to uphold and protect we have a problem. I say law because the U.S. Constitution is the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND. I suggest these and all legislators read Article 1 section 8 of the constitution and then the 9th and 10th amendments. Also, keep in mind these are “Delegated Powers”. We did not give these up, which means we can take them back. Nowhere in there does it give authority to regulate marijuana, education, forests, Homeland Security, Transportation, Health Care, etc. It’s time we all got back to knowing the supreme law of the land. Please don’t throw the “Supremacy Clause” at me. This gives the federal government supreme power only to those granted to them and when they act in accordance to the constitution. The people have the power and ultimately, we as a people decide if it is in accordance with the constitution.

James Ammons assumed the role of chairman of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission on July 1. Charged with leading the five-member commission for the 2017-2018 fiscal year, Ammons has been serving on the commission since 2014 after being appointed to a five-year term by then-Gov. Jan Brewer. Ammons replaces Chairman Edward “Pat” Madden, whose term as chair expired June 30. Madden will continue to serve on the commission through the end of the year until a successor is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. Commissioners’ five-year terms are staggered, and each commissioner traditionally serves as chair during his or her final year.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan has rejected a request for voter registration data from the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity officially received on July 3, 2017.  “I share the concerns of many Arizonans that the Commission’s request could implicate serious privacy concerns,” said Reagan. “Since there is nothing in Executive Order 13799 (nor federal law) that gives the Commission authority to unilaterally acquire and disseminate such sensitive information, the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office is not in a position to fulfill your request.” Arizona follows the voter registration list maintenance requirements under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and, through the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck program (IVRC), thoroughly investigates instances of double registrations or double voting across state lines.  Thus, the Secretary was skeptical that Arizona’s voter roll would shed light on any ‘vulnerabilities and issues related to voter registration and voting’ you appear to be investigating in other states. In responding to the request, the Secretary wrote, “Under normal circumstances, limited voter registration records could be provided to a member of the public upon payment of the requisite fee under Arizona law along with a statement of non-commercial use.  But this appears to be no normal request.  Centralizing sensitive voter registration information from every U.S. state is a potential target for nefarious actors who may be intent on further undermining our electoral process.  As a recent Politico article cautioned, for example, “cybersecurity specialists are warning that President Donald Trump’s voter-fraud commission may unintentionally expose voter data to even more hacking and digital manipulation. Without any explanation how Arizona’s voter information would be safeguarded or what security protocols the Commission has put in place, I cannot in good conscience release Arizonans’ sensitive voter data for this hastily organized experiment,” continued Reagan.  “For reasons outlined in this letter, therefore, I have directed my staff to withhold any provision of voter registration records based on the best interests of the State of Arizona. While I do not intend to provide the voter roll as requested in your letter, I do stand willing to be a resource to assist the Commission in its efforts to enhance the integrity of elections nationwide,” concluded the Secretary.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

(300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited)

Congresswoman Martha McSally in honor of Independence Day: “Two hundred forty one years ago today, our Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain, establishing the greatest nation to have ever existed. They founded our country on a radical concept of freedom – daring to say that all of us are created equal and that every person has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Every day for the last 241 years, this country has faced threats from those who want to take away our right to be free. But time and time again, the brave people of this nation have refused to back down. Generations of patriots have laid down their lives to defend our liberties. Every American owes a debt of gratitude to all those who have taken up the call to serve to keep us – and our freedoms – safe.  As we gather to celebrate, let us remember the many blessings that we have as Americans. I wish a happy and peaceful Independence Day to all of the residents of Southeastern Arizona.”

Congressman Andy Biggs sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, requesting that he cancel Congress’s current plans to recess for the month of August. Biggs was joined by Congressman Ron DeSantis, Congressman Ken Buck, Congressman Ted Yoho, Congressman Scott Perry, Congressman Paul Gosar, Congressman Dave Brat, Congressman Jody Hice, Congressman Jeff Duncan, Congressman Raúl Labrador, Congressman H. Morgan Griffith, and Congressman Thomas Garrett, Jr. Letter - We request that you cancel Congress’s current plans to recess for the month of August to ensure there is enough time to address the long list of pressing issues on our docket. During the 2016 elections, President Trump and Republican candidates running for the House and Senate promised the American people that with unified Republican government we could achieve many of the policy priorities that have been mere wishes for the last several years. We vowed to repeal Obamacare, pass pro-growth tax reform, reign in federal spending, and work towards balancing the budget. The American people put their faith in us and are counting on us to carry out these goals. Prior to September 30, we must also find a path forward on passing a federal budget and appropriating funding for fiscal year 2018, reviewing the federal debt limit, and consider reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, the National Flood Insurance Program, Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and more. Our constituents expect us to work hard and will be disappointed if we shut down for four to five weeks when we could move our agenda forward. We have achieved some notable accomplishments you have rightly called singles and doubles, but working during August could facilitate hitting some home runs. We are not under the illusion that any of these things will be easy to accomplish, but we fully intend to work in good faith to remain true to our constituents in our respective districts.  We cannot afford to lose any of the momentum we have and therefore request that you cancel August recess.

After Yesterday’s Passage of two significant immigration enforcement bills, one of which included Congressman Biggs’ bill, Grant’s Law, he wrote an op-ed for the Washington Times.
