7-9-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

LD24 PC Tristan Manos sharing a quote from George Washington: "A good and faithful servant is never afraid, or unwilling to have his conduct looked into, but the reverse; because the more it is inspected, the brighter it shines." – George Washington, letter to Tobias Lear, Mount Vernon, June 15, 1791

PC Marsha Hill: I really appreciated your 7-8-17-briefs editorial. Yes, we are all disillusioned and feel OUR voices are never heard, much less taken into consideration. As PCs, this is supposed to be the avenue our voices are heard, but alas, as you well know, that doesn't happen so, again thanks, Frosty. It's great seeing people "trying" to get their voice through to deaf ears!!!! We'll see what happens, by their action.  Frankly, he is giving my Jesus a bad name and I don't appreciate it!

LD18 PC Peggy McClain: Follow-up to my 7-8-17-briefs comments about wondering if the AZGOP funded the Chairmen’s trips to Hawaii, Treasurer Bob Lattieri called me today and said he published some reports recently indicating the trips were not paid for by the AZGOP. I missed that, my apologies.

LD20 State Committee Wes Harris: Yesterday’s Brief's contained, in my opinion, letters of incitement regarding the divisiveness and vitriol at the State Republican Party level.  When Chairman after Chairman from the outlying Counties are indicating that they are most unhappy with what is going on and the Executive Director, whom the Chairman swore would not be appointed before he won the election under questionable circumstances, acts in a capricious manner...it is time for a change.    I call on those that are contemplating a recall movement to publish their campaign on the Briefs so that every State Committeemen will have the information with which to effect a recall.  I suggest that we either call for a special meeting or we prepare to effect a recall and new elections at the January State Mandatory Meeting.  We need to get these people out if we are to be successful in 2018 but that will not happen unless we consolidate the movement.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: Yesterday’s MCRC Briefs is a reflection of the continued deterioration of the AZ GOP which started years ago and accelerated under chairmen Robert Graham and Jonathan Lines.  There are many who are whining about what is going on, but little is done about it!  The closest action is Navajo County Chairman Steven Slaton who said, “Let’s step up chairs, 1st vices, and 2nd vices, and clean the swamp of these AZGOP leaders who are being lead by a few donors, who lie to us, and do not want to follow the law.”  But, who will step up to the plate?? Who will lead??  It has been said that ‘money is the root of all evil!”  Political parties are not tax payer supported. The elected leaders of a political party are non-paid positions so where does the money come from, and who approves the budget to pay for the overhead, including paid staff, to run the organization??  The out dated bylaws for the AZ GOP states, ‘'2. Finance Chairman The finance chairman shall raise funds for the party. The finance chairman need not be a member of the state committee. He/she shall disburse no funds.’, and, “B. Finance Committee The finance committee shall include at least one representative from each county, appointed by the state chairman with the advice and consent of the county chairmen, and such other members as the state chairman shall appoint in consultation with the state finance chairman. Such representatives need not be members of the county or state committees. The finance committee shall assist the finance chairman in raising funds for the Party.”  How many readers have ever seen this provision exercised??  How may have seen where the state chair has money, access to money, or ability to raise money?  And, what does one expect the big donors to gain with their money?? When we see the county chairs sit silently letting the state chair run the show, what does one expect??

The Arizona Chapter Of Americans for Prosperity has released its 2017 Legislative Scorecard. Rep. Travis Grantham of Gilbert, with 94%, which earned him the designation of "Hero of the Taxpayer."  The lowest-scoring legislator on the 2017 Scorecard was Sen. Martin Quezada, with 17%, which earned him the designation of "Champion of Big Government." See complete results at www.azscorecard.com AFP-Arizona's scorecard assigns weights to over 300 bills according to their projected dollar impact to Arizona taxpayers, consumers and producers, with $1 million equaling one point on the scorecard. Highlights from the last session:

     · SB 1522:  Balanced and Responsible Budget -- The FY 2017-18 budget protects families and businesses from tax increases by growing state government spending more slowly than the rate of growth of the Arizona economy. The final FY 2018 budget figure was $9.817 billion. Even with $25 million in supplemental increases to the FY 2017 budget, the total was $55 million under a population-plus-inflation increase over last year's budget.

     · SB 1431:  School Choice Expansion -- By expanding eligibility for Arizona's system of Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs), this reform will help more Arizona schoolchildren obtain the educational resources they need to succeed. LINK to thank Governor Ducey and legislators for supporting school choice!

     · SB 1437:  Right to Earn a Living -- This reform allows would-be entrepreneurs and job-creators to challenge professional licensing regulations designed to stifle competition and do nothing to protect public health and safety.

     · SB 1152:  Stopping Hidden Tax Hikes -- This reform protects families and businesses by requiring local governments to put sales tax increases on the ballot in November of even-numbered years, rather than hiding those measures in low-turnout elections.
