8-31-17 Briefs

Republican Brief

Attention PCs: Submit your ideas for AZGOP Bylaws revisions by using this form.

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.

Pinal County Chairman Michael Burke: In regard to my recent letter opposing the Recall of Chairman Lines. For those who questioned who I am, I thought I made that clear in my letter. 8-30-17-Briefs As for the emails, I will tell you that emails were collected over time from a number of open sources. Some are forwarded to third parties from recipients. I did not request emails of State Committeemen from anyone, nor did anyone supply them to me.

Chips N Salsa Talk Show Host Alice Lara: Thank you Wonder Woman of the Republican Digital world.  I know our exposure and viewers/listeners have increased by our regular promotion in your Maricopa Briefs. MUCHAS GRACIAS!

LD24 PC Tristan Manos: "We've seen the headline over and over again: 'Call for the Removal of AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines.' Although that headline may reflect the language in the AZGOP Bylaws—both proponents and opponents mostly referring to it by this name—there's more to it than meets the eye. We've seen all kinds of buzz and political posturing going around on both 'sides,' those for and against 'removal.' How about we all keep everything in perspective and see it for what it is: a 'Vote of Confidence,' up or down. Be it one time or the other, one matter or the other, we've seen AZGOP Statutory Elected Officers (Secretary and Treasurer), County Chairmen, State Committeemen, and PCs alike—imagine this, if you will—being so bold as to go in good faith and take it for granted the AZGOP will rightly understand, observe, and go by its own Bylaws. Let's all remember how hard we worked at winning the 2016 United States Presidential Election to 'Make America Great Again.' After all that, we're now faced with trying to get the AZGOP 'Make Shall Mean Shall Again' in its own Bylaws? Guess how many times the word 'shall' is mentioned in the AZGOP Bylaws. Just counted. 117. Guess how many times the word 'may' is mentioned. Just counted. 32. As per these same Bylaws, the body of State Committeemen reserves the 'right' or 'privilege' to call an official meeting and vote to see if this Chairman (or any Chairman for that matter) stays or goes. Before anyone goes too far in targeting others before and after, let's all keep in mind how we're all PCs, we all make up the AZGOP, and we're all responsible to the AZGOP Bylaws. If you'd like to promote your particular vision for the AZGOP and recruit like-minded people, then so be it. However that plays out in LD, County, and AZGOP elections, it must be a given that—whoever gets elected, takes an oath, and is therefore charged to run the AZGOP—he or she will (and, where the Bylaws say 'shall,' must) run the AZGOP as per the Bylaws, for the good of empowering its membership to the greatest extent possible." A Different Conservative Activist, Rob Haney, retired chairman of the Phoenix-based Maricopa County Republican Proycearty, told The Wanderer it was too soon to know whether the mid-August departure of Trump’s chief strategist, conservative Steve Bannon, would see liberals gaining more control within the White House. “But whatever the Trump White House may do to mollify the RINOs in Congress, I do not believe it will result with the passage of any major Trump legislative items,” Haney said. “There are just too many hard-core ‘Never Trump’ RINOs who will take turns aligning with Democrats to defeat the legislation. The RINOs are not so much afraid of losing House and Senate seats to the Democrats in the mid-terms as they are of having Trump succeed. Therefore, they are willing to take the backlash from the Republican base, just so it results in a Trump and conservative defeat,” he said. “If the result is Democrat control of the House and Senate, so be it. The establishment forces still win, and the loss would signal that the conservatives cannot get their agenda through even with a strong conservative president. The RINOs and Demo…” When Trump Doesn’t Win… At Least President Keeps Political Audience In Suspense

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in response to President Trump’s speech on tax reform: "Today, President Trump explained why it’s critical we deliver on our promise to simplify the U.S. tax code, cut taxes for the middle class, and grow the American economy. President Trump’s vision ensures all Americans will keep more of their hard-earned money and will mean lower tax rates for our nation’s small businesses, which will encourage growth and create more job creation here at home. The president’s plan to fix our broken tax system will close special interest loopholes in the tax code that only benefit the ultra-wealthy. Congress must now stand with American taxpayers and work with the president on this bipartisan issue.”

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

CONGRESSMAN DAVID SCHWEIKERT:

Every generation has a choice, and unfortunately, the complexity of today's problems are only multiplied by bad decisions of the past--kicking the can down the road and allowing our budget to spiral out of control with bad Washington policies hurting the economy even more. I ran for Congress because I couldn't sit on the sidelines watching bad leaders keep making bad decisions. I fought to be at the table on tax reform because Arizona needs leadership that is willing to take on the special interests and stand up for economic growth. The month of August is usually called "recess" by the media. Let me tell you, nothing could be further from the truth. While the media has been doing everything they can to pull the country apart by selling a narrative of chaos and division--I have been working to bring stakeholders together so that the House of Representatives can have a tax reform package ready for the American people this fall. Ronald Reagan was the last President to inspire the kind of change that transformed a generation. Today, we seek a bold tax reform plan, common sense, and economic growth that will have the same lasting impact on our economy. Please remember, there is more that unites us than divides us as Americans. I know we can do it, but we are only going to get there with your help! With gratitude

CITY COUNCILMAN SPEAKs OUT

300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio successfully fought off an attempt today by radical anti-police protestors to engage in a witch hunt against the brave men and women of the Phoenix Police Department. “Our officers performed brilliantly that day, under incredibly difficult circumstances,” said DiCiccio. “The way our police department handled those protests should be a model for every city in the country. Unfortunately, after the event, a handful of radical anti-police protestors and ultra-liberal organizations – the same people bent on creating chaos from coast to coast – have been trying to impugn our officers and second guess their decision making. These people demanding an outside review, they don’t want police departments across the country to follow the lead of the Phoenix Police Department and control these events,” DiCiccio. “As they have made clear time and again, they want to engage in violence, rioting and destruction. That’s what they want. Our police department denied that to them, so now they wanted to bring in this outside group to ensure that Phoenix has to follow the lead of all these other cities whose officers have been forced to stand idly by while people are hurt, even killed, and businesses smashed. Today, I and the majority of the Council stood up and said ‘not in our town’ and the proposal was withdrawn. Phoenix stood up for the brave men and women in uniform who protect our community, because they stand up and put their lives on the line every day for us, and do it well.”
