9-17-17 Briefs

REPUBLICAN BRIEFS

Delegates to the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) 39th Biennial Convention elected JodyJody Rushton NFRW Prexy 2018-20 Rushton (right)  of Plano, Texas, to serve as president for 2018-2019, during its convention held Sept. 14-17 in Philadelphia. Rushton has been a respected force in Republican circles for three decades, dating back to her position as western states coordinator for the Reagan-Bush campaign in 1984. She succeeds NFRW President Carrie Almond of Chillicothe, Mo., who served as NFRW president during the 2016-2017 biennium. The Republican Party of Texas recently awarded Rushton the first Susan B. Rushton also was awarded the Collin County Republican Party's John McVeigh Award in 2015 for outstanding service and dedication to the Republican Party. The McAllen, Texas, native has served as president of Conner Harrington Republican Women's Club and president of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

Why-Are-Republicans-Working-To-Bail-Out-Obamacare-And-Raise-Taxes. You can’t make it up. After seven years of promising conservative voters they would repeal and replace, and raising tens of millions off the issue, Republicans are now doubling down in support of ObamaCare. In fact, they are actually going to make ObamaCare worse. Yes. That’s why I have signed Rep. Chris Smith’s (D-NJ) legislation to allow houses of worship to be eligible for disaster relief and emergency assistance on terms equal to others. full text here: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/115/hr2405/text

The Latest Survey From Democratic Pollster GBA Strategies gives Kelli Ward (Jeff Flake’s opponent in Arizona’s GOP Senate primary) a 58 percent to 31 percent advantage over Flake. It’s the third poll released during the last month showing Ward with at least a 15-point lead. The same survey has potential Democratic nominee Kyrsten Sinema in front of Flake, 47 percent to 40 percent, in the general election. Flake’s difficulties aren’t surprising, but how quickly he’s become (perhaps) the most vulnerable Republican up for re-election in 2018 is. That title was supposed to belong to Nevada Sen. Dean Heller — Nevada is a bluer state than Arizona, and Heller already has a well-known declared Democratic opponent in Rep. Jacky Rosen. So why is Flake’s future looking so much more uncertain than Heller’s? The difference appears to be how Flake and Heller have managed their relationships with President Trump. Flake has written a book slamming Trump. That, along with other anti-Trump actions, has motivated the president to all but endorse Ward. Heller, on the other hand, has been more cooperative with the White House, even if he has sometimes done so reluctantly. Heller also said — after a long period of not saying — that he voted for Trump in the 2016 election. Flake didn’t. So, Trump hasn’t made a move toward backing a Republican challenge against Heller. As a result, Heller has a lead in most primary polls against Republican Danny Tarkanian, and Heller is holding his own in the few general election surveys that have been released. The lesson here seems to be that even while Trump is unpopular overall, he is still well-liked by the Republican base — Republican lawmakers cross him at their own peril.

Activist James Alberts: Amazing , Sens John McCain and Jeff Flake's staff were too busy to meet with members of Arizona Republican party (LD13 PCs Marsha Hill & John Powelson) 9-15-17 Briefs with a seven week advance notice. It’s time to throw both of them out of office !

Marianne Ferrari, LD 20 PC and State Committeeman-- Now that I am no longer working on the special meeting to remove Jonathan Lines, I have time to pay attention to something else equally as important, and in fact an emergency-- the “reprecincting” being hastily rolled out by our new Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes—a Democrat. In my opinion, this is an egregious and clearly partisan plan that is being rushed into action so it can distort the results of the upcoming 2018 elections. That is proof enough for me that this plan must be loaded with changes that are going to place Republican candidates at clear disadvantage. Here are a few: The plan is rejiggering precincts where Republicans have a clear majority, which causes many more Democratic voters fall into those precincts. They are expunging and combining Republican precincts, thus lowering the number of GOP precincts and of PC slots. The recorder’s website purports to explain this program to interested citizens. Go to the reprecincting page and see if you agree that it isn’t being cogently explainedhttps://reprecincting.aspx On the contrary, it obfuscates. It masks the real intentions of the changes being made. This must be stopped! Throw your weight into this. We only have till the 22nd to notify each member of the Board of Supervisors to vote against approving this! They have full authority to stop this, but only if you give them a compelling reason to bother doing so. I have posted a sample letter to the supervisors, plus the email addresses of the supervisors at my website: speakupsaveamerica

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: I suppose my information wasn’t worth any comments from this chair! Yes, the ARS lays out the guidelines for political parties, but does not dictate any bylaws, that’s up to the organization.   And yes, the ARS says, “B. In the event of a vacancy in the office of state committeeman, in counties with populations of less than five hundred thousand persons, such vacancy shall be filled by appointment made by the state chairman with the advice and consent of the county chairman of the county in which the vacancy occurred.”    Note the words, advice and consentSince the state chair is the chair of the state committeemen, it is up to him to make changes in the committee membership, but with the advise and consent (and background of elected state committeemen) the change in membership of the state committeemen must come from the county chairmen who has perusal over the PCs. This email should point out  couple of things where the AZ GOP is concerned.   For years the state chair has acted autocratically with disregard of the outdated bylaws, while at the same time the AZ GOP membership languished in apathy.  The County Chairmen, the AzRA, the various TEA parties, ‘talking heads’, and others have wailed about what is going on with the party leadershipBut, who in the hell has done a thing about it??? It appears that the AZ GOP is coming in for a ‘crash landing’ and seems the only survivors will be the RINOs who run the show.  (a censored McCain reelection!) Until we change the bylaws making the Executive Committee being made up of the county chairs with their own elected chair and thereby make the state chair responsible to someone, nothing is going to change, only get worse.

Former Senator Russell Pearce: DACA … In-State Tuition Law Suit And The Arizona AG -- It is difficult to applaud Attorney General Mark Brnovich for doing his job in his tuition lawsuit against the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), when AG Brnovich only did so under threat of me and Judicial Watch. Very troubling is that he has masked the effort by Combining ABOR’s Constitutional legal authority to set tuition and the illegal act of ABOR giving in-state tuition to illegal aliens. These are two very separate issues and possible puts the whole DACA tuition issue at risk.  ABOR giving in-state tuition to illegal aliens (DACA) students is a separate issue, and is not related to the legal act of setting tuition rates for legal students. It appears the AG is trying to hide the fact he was forced to do his job.  As he camouflages this effort with ABOR’s legal right of setting tuition rates, with ABOR’s illegal DACA issue and has put ABOR’s illegal DACA issue at risk.  DACA is an easy issue since ABOR’s actions have already been ruled illegal, by a unanimous Arizona Appellate Court ruling.  ABOR is breaking the law and is costing Arizona taxpayers millions of dollars; and the cost continues to grow as he slowly moves to ostensibly stop ABOR.  He should have asked for a cease and desist order to stop the illegal and costly actions by ABOR immediately.  Instead he panders to the media and public as he buries the real issue of ABOR breaking the law by giving illegal aliens in-state tuition. AG Brnovich tried to give reasons why he wanted to wait for the Supreme Court to rule while the costs of in-state tuition for illegal aliens continues to grow and while ABOR knowingly continues to break the law. Brnovich claims he will not be pressured … whoops, he filed on the last day to avoid a lawsuit by me and Judicial Watch.  One of the AG’s primary duties is to protect the public from rogue agencies that ignore the law and abuse their authority.  It is unfortunate that I had to push the AG into doing his job and force him to go after ABOR for breaking the law. It does not matter if DACA gets adopted in some form in the future. The law is clear and DACA has no standing in law. DACA students, under federal law, are illegally in the country, and under Arizona law cannot under any circumstance get in-state tuition or taxpayer a subsidy in any form.  If not stopped immediately the costs will continue to mount.   ABOR and the Community Colleges must comply with federal and state law.  It is the Attorney General’s job to make sure that happens.
