9-21-17 Briefs

Services for LD23 State Committeeman Evelyn Munn will be held at 10 am., Thurs., Sept 21 in the Church of the Ascension, 12615 N Fountain Hills Blvd, Fountain Hills, AZ.  Munn, who passed away Wed., Sept 12, was a long-time PC and the “2001 Fountain Hills Republican of the Year.” Cards can be sent to 16222 N Boulder, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.

Activist James Alberts: McCain’s excuse is “I f----d up.” He has a record of f-----g up in the Navy, as a P.O.W and the chairman who was to locate P.O.W.s left behind, and look at his voting record - it speaks for its self. McCain, I agree with your excuse!  You are a f---k up.” Editor’s Note: When Briefs offered Alberts a chance to “clean up” his message, Alberts replied, “I quoted his response using his language. I could clean it up, however, that's the language he used. Thanks for the opportunity to clean it, apparently that's the language he understands best, therefore, I decline to clean it up.”   Alberts has a point. If our elected officials opt to publicly set this as an example for our nation - apparently it is the language some of them best understand. Senator, as a statesman and parent, please consider cleaning up your language when publicly flapping your tongue. You dragged your esteemed position down to the level of a Grade B movie. Shame on you!- ft

LD24 PC Tristan Manos -The Forgotten Precinct Captain - Part 1 – The ongoing lack of election/appointment of Precinct Captains since the 2016 Fall elections surfaced during a recent LD24 meeting when Chairman Barry Wong chastised a Precinct Committeeman for reminding Barry of the alleged bylaw non-compliance regarding the election/appointment of Precinct Captains as required by MCRC and LD24 Bylaws. Back in early 2017, the un-named PC reportedly reminded Wong that the bylaws read that Captains “shall” be elected/appointed. Although the Precinct Captain election/appointment issue was never posted on the monthly meeting agenda, Barry brought it up at the August meeting, drawing attention to an unnamed LD24 PC who ‘dared’ try to help out. The LD24 August Monthly Meeting Minutes (Proposed), as per Recording Secretary Teresa Tenbrink, emailed by Wong to PCs via Corresponding Secretary Carole Joyce, reports: “Chairman Wong received a request from a LD24 precinct committeeman via email to move forward on the implementation of Precinct Captains as prescribed in the by-laws. In response to the request, Chairman Wong stated that leadership is moving forward this fall with the Precinct Captain process and it will be implemented by the end of the year. Further, without revealing the name of the email sender Chairman Wong chastised and admonished the email author – and read verbatim from the email -- for the negative tenor of the message and threats to complain to state and county GOP leadership as well as intentions to post on certain unofficial GOP-leaning social media alleging bylaw non-compliance by LD24 if Chairman Wong did not address the Precinct Captain bylaw compliance issue at the August LD24 regular meeting. Chairman Wong announced that negative communications from PCs and others in LD24 is not acceptable and is not helpful in advancing the GOP in LD24; he said going forward all communication (in all formats and media platforms) should be constructive and respectful with the goal of advancing the GOP and LD24.”

LD24 PC Tristan Manos - "The Forgotten Precinct Captain" - Part 2: That's the ‘Thanks’ the PC gets for trying to help keep the district in compliance? Talk about “Shooting The Messenger.” It’s important “We the PCs” stand up for ourselves and each other. When united, PCs’ potential power is far greater than LD, County, and State Chairmen. Understandably, from Wong’s perspective, he faced a potential (so-called) ‘threat’ of public attention to the matter, and potential public embarrassment. It appears, Barry confused “threat” with the PC giving Barry what is commonly understood and referred to as an “ultimatum.” The August meeting minutes refer to the (so-called) “negative tenor and communication” by the PC, however, the only negative is Wong’s negating bylaws compliance, negating free speech, making negative statements about the PC, and proclamations about any PC who ‘dares going there.” I was at the meeting, and the passage in the minutes stating “intentions to post on certain unofficial GOP-leaning social media” actually refers to Barry citing Frosty's MCRC Daily Briefs by name, as per Barry reading the PC’s email. Should we now add ‘PC Whistleblower Protection’ to the bylaws? Barry, when you ran for LD24 Chairman, did you read and understand the bylaws to see what you’d be getting yourself into?

Yesterday, Congressman Andy Biggs and other members of the Arizona delegation sent a letter to Secretaries Tillerson, Ross, and Chao expressing concerns about foreign government subsidies that jeopardize commercial airline service and threaten Arizona jobs. Congressman Biggs released the following statement: “I’m grateful to my Arizona colleagues for joining me on this letter to the administration. It is the U.S. government’s responsibility to step in to protect American workers when they are the victims of unfair foreign labor practices. In this case, thousands of aviation jobs may disappear if the Gulf carrier subsidies are not ended once and for all. I look forward to working with the Trump administration and my colleagues to ensure that Arizona employees are not harmed by this international development.” Read the letter here.
