Activist Diane Ortiz-Parsons: Maricopa County Community College District Board President Laurin Hendrix (R-Gilbert), with the support of Tracy Livingston (R-Peoria), Jean McGrath (R-Sun City) and Johanna Haver (R-Phoenix), saved Maricopa County taxpayers more than $700,000 with a single UNIFIED vote. Their vote has eliminated the common practice of classified employee union groups getting paid to conduct union business during work hours. Not only do they have to meet in their off-duty hours now but they also must find an off-site location since they are no longer allowed to use any campus locations or classrooms to conduct union activities or union-sponsored events.

LD27 PC Art Olivas: Chris, you are the prime example of what I call an uninformed Republican. The last time I helped you and the LD27, we met at your house. We were to walk the precincts in the LD and you gave me most of the addresses in gated communities. I said then that I was no longer going to waste my time - that this was no better than going to the park. Now let’s talk about helping - not just the LD - but also the AZGOP. I have helped every one that has run for office in our LD with money or labor just as I have for the AZGOP. My wife and I gave money for the rent of the office that we had to get when Bruce Ash kick us out of Sun City. My wife and I also gave about $800 to AZGOP when Tom Morrissey was State Chairman. We have more Republican shirts in our closet than we can wear. I have done more for LD27 and the AZCOP by accident than you will ever do on purpose. What you have done for the LD other than help them run it down. You can believe I will let everyone see you answer! Editor’s Note: Olivas is responding to Chris Morrill, who answered directly to Olivas with, “Once again Art is all talk. Funny that a guy who wouldn't lift a finger to help the LD in over 2 years is critical of how it is run or efforts to grow,” regarding Oliva’s 9-25-17-briefs commentary. If I recall correctly, Ash provided office space in Sun City for some time - until his partners decided they could no longer provide courtesy space to the GOP. - ft

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

CONGRESSMAN TRENT FRANKS, chairman of the International Religious Freedom Caucus and longtime member of the House Armed Services Committee, introduced legislation at 5:42pm ET yesterday that would declare U.S. House support for the Kurdish right to self-determine. Franks has been one of the key figures promoting Kurdish nationalism on Capitol Hill…Regarding the referendum : “Baghdad has failed to secure Kurdish rights and effectively protect the Kurdish people from members of the Islamic State and other violent forces, and as any nation in our international community has the right to self-determination, especially if that people faces existential threats, I feel the United States is obligated to support their bid for independence – if it is in our national interest. After all, when America sought its independence as a sovereign nation, we were supported by sympathetic world leaders. It is now time for the Kurdish people to receive the same blessing. Thank God for the Kurds – they have delivered countless groups and individuals from the hands of ISIS. Without their armed defense of northern territory, and the protection of over 2 million refugees, the medieval horrors of ISIS could have been much more widespread. During the darkest days of the Iraq War, Kurdistan remained a sanctuary of order in the midst of sectarian chaos. If the Kurds can show through their actions that their key ally is the United States of America, and they are neither an ally with the Islamist Sunni regime in Turkey nor an ally of the Islamist Shia regime in Iran, the United States will always gladly support them. While the Obama administration dithered and fought efforts to arm and support the Kurds, the Trump administration has the opportunity to stand with a noble people in their time of need. A free and independent Kurdistan can represent hope for peace in the Middle East. Even as I stand with the Kurds, I must add I encourage them to support the self-determination of other groups in the region, such as the Christians of the Nineveh Plain, the Yezidis of Shengal, and the Turkmen of Tal-Afar.  The Chaldeans, Assyrians, Syriac Christians and their coreligionists may soon face a similar decision, and I encourage the Kurds to respect their decision regarding the Nineveh Plain.”

Supt Of Public Education Candidate Robert Branch To President Trump: Mr. President, I applaud your shedding light on STEM education, but this need to be at the State level, not the Federal level. I am an engineer, my doctorate specialization is in STEM, and I believe we need to invest heavily in STEM education K-12, but we need to do it at the State level, not the Federal Level. WE need the Federal Government out of State education. Close the US Dept of Ed. Vote4Branch.com #branchingoutforeducation
