Long-time Yavapai GOP Activist Bob Luzius is having some health problems and could use your prayers.
Congressman Martha McSally is asking her constituents to answer her Congressional Priorities Survey Click Here to Start
Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.
Activist Irene Littleton: I have read the piece created by Tom Morrissey. I am not trying to discount any of his statements. Marianne Ferrari did not deserve what was thrown at her. However, I would like to add a few statements of my own. No one should be slinging mud, but it happened and I abhor it. But this also happened. Someone took a shot at Frosty Taylor, a woman who supplies us with these Briefs every day of the week! Shirley Dye, who is one of the hardest workers for the Republican Party, for her choice of speakers at Gila County Ronald Reagan Dinner. Mike Burke because he dared to give his opinion of this recall. A list of folk that disagreed with the recall referred to as “Quizlings.” Stop! We have a big job ahead of us. I for one am willing to work with anyone in the Republican Party who is willing to support our cause. The 2018 midterms are upon us! We need to unite behind President Trump and our Republican candidates and bring our candidates over the finish line as winners.
Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: In reading over Tom Morrissey’s list one must ask, WHY?? The answer is simple - APATHY by the state committeemen and lack of leadership by county chairs, who have purview over the precinct committeemen! First off, we can forgive the state committeemen to a point. After all, the state committeemen in formal session voted to censure Senator John McCain, but what did the party leadership do about that?? Nothing that made any difference! And McCain was re-elected! It appears that the AZ GOP has always been under ‘one man rule’ and there has never been enough leadership ability among the county chairs to make a difference in the AZ GOP. Morrissey appears to be the most senior AZ GOP elected officer that is active. Since AzRA has been established what have they done in correcting or supporting any change to the AZ GOP? So, if Tom could muster the majority of the ‘laid back’ county chairmen, they could take over the leadership of the AZ GOP and make the AZ GOP something to be proud of.
Yavapai County PC Rick Hennessey To former AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey - whom I know and like. Your op-ed in the 9-5-17-Briefs was quite correct. My question is how do we move forward?? Contact: 928 499 9342 firstname.lastname@example.org
Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: To clear the air regarding the piece I wrote in 9-5-17-Briefs In no way was I leveling "veiled threats" against Jim O'Connor and Gabby Mercer. I have the greatest respect for both of them. Who I was referring to is the Ruling Class Establishment Elite. I am deeply disappointed with the way the effort to fight this part of our party has fizzled. That said, I still believe strongly that "Evil succeeds when good people do nothing." Marianne Ferrari did not stand by and do nothing. That's a FACT!
Marianne Ferrari, LD20 State Committeeman/PC -- As of last Tues (Aug 29), 269 courageous conservatives signed the call letter that guaranteed a special meeting would be held for Jonathan Lines to face removal by the state committee --an enormous victory for conservatives in Arizona! Twenty conservatives worked for weeks gathering signatures. With one phone call, Jim O’Connor destroyed the progress of some 300 people, plus the hopes of hundreds more, when he called to let me know he had arranged to have 21 people instruct Gabby Mercer to strike out their signatures, thus disqualifying the call letter and six months of meticulous work. The reason Jim gave me was that he “knew” we could not win the vote. That is an unacceptable reason to give up, when just holding the meeting represented a huge victory. More importantly, Jim had no authority or right to interfere with our initiative. Nor would he have known how many signatures we had gathered, had I not confided in him. That’s all that need be said. I resigned my AzRA membership.
Because of this strange ending to my effort to call a special meeting, I have an ominous feeling about where we stand as a conservative movement. Changes are in process that are not good for us, but we are not paying attention. What does systematic purging of conservatives from party positions tell us? It is the story of a complete takeover in progress, right? Should we not feel urgency, knowing that? I’m beginning to realize that it may have only been a half-measure to try to unseat the chairman, using the bylaws. Maybe there is something much larger and more direct that we all should have done together.
I believe the key lies in the truth about the RINOs. They are not Republicans; everybody knows it, but nobody does anything about it! They are RUNNING the party - like dictators. We have become complacent as our situation has worsened. Now, the unacceptable are in charge, and we can’t remove them, because some conservatives say it isn’t the right time - even though the RINOs are busy removing us! Our AZGOP is occupied by non-republicans who are funded by huge donors from other states. The RINOs in charge are systematically removing conservatives from the PC and SC ranks, if the many reports to that effect are to be believed. Some would call that an emergency. If you don’t see it as an emergency, it is incumbent on you, at the very least, to ask yourself why not? Editor’s Note: Ferrari’s letter was condensed to conform with Brief’s 400 word limit. See her complete statement at www.speakupsaveamerica.com – ft
Editor’s Note: In an effort to give readers both sides of this hot topic removal meeting cancellation, yesterday afternoon Briefs spoke with O’Connor regarding Ferrari’s charges against him. O’Connor says that he and a small group of petitioners requested AZGOP Secretary Gabby Mercer remove their names because “The numbers weren’t there. It was not a win situation.” He contradicts the allegation that she confided to him that she had 269 petition signatures., saying “The last I heard from her she believed she was going to be very close to the 249 required.” According to O’Connor, that evening he heard from someone else that she had collected 269 signatures. He pointed out that 269 signatures didn’t assure Lines removal when they don’t know how many of the approximately 1,234 state committeemen would attend the “removal meeting” or vote. He also expressed concern that the announced venue location hadn’t been confirmed.
When asked if he was acting as AzRA chairman or in behalf of himself, O’Connor emphasized, “AZRA has had NO part at any time in Marianne’s removal program. That subject was never mentioned nor discussed at any AzRA Executive Committee meeting or Board meeting. I never acted on this matter on behalf of AZRA. I signed as an elected State Committeeman because I believed Marianne was conducting a legitimate activity pursuant to AZGOP Bylaws. Beginning Aug 20, 2017 it became clear to me that Marianne was misrepresenting the status of her removal program.”
Yavapai County PC Rick Hennessey: So is it me or am I'm missing something? Congress has been on VACATION for all of August. Today they went back to work for 12 days. Half of that is flying time. Then they take another recess. Sign me up! That's not too bad to have a job where you spend more time at home than getting anything accomplished. This is why we need to DRAIN THE SWAMP!!! You can't make this up. Even the MSM reports it. Why aren't more people standing up and asking these scum sucking Rats What Are We Paying You For?
LD23 PC Boe James: People asked what good Navy ships can do by being sent to Texas post Hurricane Harvey? The USS Kearsarge LHD 3 and the USS Oak Hill LSD LSD 51 have significant medical, search and rescue, and command and control capabilities; and can provide logistical support, including fuel and electricity to the local communities. The USS Kearsarge, designed as the primary casualty receiving ship for combat wounded Marines has 6 Operating Rooms, 17 ICU Beds, 47 Ward Beds with 60 Overflow beds. She has a fully equipped medical lab, X-Ray capabilities and a fully stocked blood bank that is larger than many hospitals. Kearsarge's organic medical crew consists of 2 Doctors, 1 dentist, 0 Nurses, 0 Anesthesia Provider, 1 Med. Service Corps Officer (medical system administrator), 18 Hospital Corpsmen and 4 Dental Technicians. She can be quickly augmented with surgical doctors, OR nurses, anesthesists, and other medical and dental personnel.
Oak Hills and Kearsarge both can be used as temporary housing for evacuees as was done aboard USS Iwo Jima after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. With extensive supplies always carried for NEO and humanitarian relief operations, Kearsarge and Oak Hill can help provide needed supplies for the local population. Both have helicopter landing and refueling facilities and have maintenance facilities for vehicles and aircraft, so Navy helicopters can be refueled and fixed onsite. Kearsarge normally carries both helicopters and Harrier jets. For relief operations, her helicopter load can be increased, although she typically carries about 20 troop carrying helos each of which can be used in search and rescue, evacuation or logistical resupply. Both carry landing craft which can be used in evacuation efforts.
The ships can do a lot for the local population. Since they have a combined crew of over 1300, who can help and they bring order and disciplined methods. Navy amphibious force ships have participated in many relief and recovery and humanitarian efforts world wide. Either ship can supply electrical power to the shore and fully support hundreds if not thousands of homes and businesses. LHAs/LHDs and other amphibious force ships such as Oak Hill have been sent to a number of disaster areas both in the US and overseas. Amphibious force ships were sent to San Francisco after the major earthquake and to New Orleans where the USS Iwo Jima was the command headquarters for the entire relief effort. The two ships can carry over 2,000 Marines plus SeaBees (Navy Construction Battalion personnel who are trained and equipped to build ports, bases, airfield, etc in non-developed war zones, so you can imagine what they can do in a developed disaster area). Editor’s Note: James is a retired naval officer.
Yuma’s First Modern Roundabout for a freeway interchange has opened at the Giss Parkway ramps connecting with Interstate 8. Some work remains on the $2.5 million project to replace a T intersection for the on- and off-ramps from westbound I-8, the last exit before drivers reach the Colorado River. The project also includes improved lighting, signage and drainage, as well as accommodations for cyclists.
