11-5-17 Briefs

REPUBLICAN BRIEFS

Arizona-House-Members-Adopt-First-Written-Sexual-Harassment-Policy Less than two weeks after an Arizona state lawmaker said she was sexually harassed by male colleagues, the Arizona House of Representatives has issued for the first time a written harassment policy.  House Speaker J.D. Mesnard, emailed the policy to the chamber’s 60 representatives and staffers on Monday, saying the document represents “what have been official or unofficial (written or verbal) policies.” It defines harassment and outlines steps for reporting allegations. “Quite simply, the House policy with regard any of the above conduct will always be one of zero tolerance,” the policy states. Mesnard said he is working to improve the House’s policies and welcomes any suggestions from lawmakers and their staffers. The state Senate already had a sexual-harassment policy, which was first created in 2005. But members of that chamber say that policy hasn't been circulated in recent years. Bob BranchGod And Country Will Now Be Present at the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation meetings, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Bob Branch. Earlier this year, Branch, a Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for Maricopa County (District 4), requested that at every Maricopa County Parks meeting an invocation be given, and the Pledge of Allegiance be recited. These activities were not part of the County Parks Commission Meetings in the past. After many months of research by county attorneys, it was decided that Branch’s request was valid, constitutional, and was acceptable at the county level. During the September Parks Commission Board meeting,. Branch’s request was unanimously approved.  Branch was notified today that starting this month, every Parks Commission meeting will now start with an invocation and the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. Branch said, “I want to thank County Supervisor Clint Hickman for his guidance, the Parks and County attorneys for their due diligence, and the Parks Commission for unanimously approving my request. We are blessed to live in such a great country and state, so through our actions today, we will now able to show our thanks to our Creator and our Great Nation at every meeting.”

alan brunaciniA Memorial Service Was Held for retired fire chief Alan Brunacini yesterday afternoon by the Phoenix Fire Department. A procession started at 11:45 am and services were held at 1 pm at the ComericaTheater. Brunacini passed away Oct 15. The former fire chief held every sworn position within the department Frosty - honorary firemanbetween his starting date in 1958 and becoming the Chief. “He had aspirations of making the Phoenix Fire Department the best in the nation back in the 70s --  and he did it,” recalls Briefs Editor Frosty Taylor, who had many on and off the record chats with him as he moved up his career ladder.  Under Brunacini’s leadership, Taylor was named an “honorary fireman”  in the 1970s, and was given an official turnout coat and helmet by the firefighters at Station 27 - to help keep her from getting water soaked while photographing fires when Station 27 was the only fire crew between Sunnyslope and Scottsdale Road in northeast Phoenix. Her columns and editorials also helped bring the first rescue unit to that rapidly growing area.

Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) Update: For the Fifth consecutive year Guns and Ammo magazine has rated Arizona as the #1 state for gun owners. States were measured by the following criteria:

· Right To Carry.

· Treatment of military style rifles (ARs, AKs, etc.).

· Treatment of Class 3/NFA firearms.

· Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground.

· Miscellaneous issues such as constitutional protections, preemption, restrictions on gun or ammo purchases, magazine capacity, CCW reciprocity, availability of places to shoot, etc.

Here is what Guns & Ammo magazines said about Arizona's #1 rating: "It's hard to improve upon Arizona's gun laws but they seem to make an effort every year.  In 2017, Governor Ducey signed legislation into law preventing local governments from enacting background check requirements for gun ownership. Arizona maxes-out in every category thanks to its permitless (and permitted) carry, very strong self-defense laws, hands-off NFA and Black Gun policies and an overall hassle-free landscape for gun owners.  The Phoenix area likely has the most active competitive shooting cultures in the nation and there are countless places to shoot in the deserts if you're the kind that likes to take long shots.  The hunting opportunities are some of the best in the country, though tags can be a challenge to draw, so if you're a sportsman as well as a gun owner you're in luck.  The gap between Arizona and other states in the top-10 has certainly narrowed in the past few years but we have no justification for taking the winning slot away from our reigning champion." Arizona's five year #1 rating is primarily because of what AzCDL has accomplished.  Prior to AzCDL's involvement, national pro-rights firearms organizations were content with the status quo in Arizona and made almost no effort to push for improvements. These alerts are a project of the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), an all-volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization.

Neighbor Arrested After Sen. Rand Paul Suffers Minor Injury In Assault At His Kentucky Home Police arrested Rene Boucher, a 59-year-old anesthesiologist who lives in the same gated community as the Republican senator. Boucher was charged with fourth-degree assault with minor injury in the Friday afternoon incident and he is being held at the Warren County jail on $5,000 bond, state police said. It’s unclear whether the attack against Paul was politically motivated. But an unprecedented wave of threats against House and Senate lawmakers this year has prompted congressional security officials to review and follow up on thousands of threatening messages to members of both parties. Navajo County Chairman Steven Slaton To Yavapai County PC Rick Hennessey’s alert to the state of Arizona, trying to get Jeff DeWit to run for Senate. Jeff’s last name has only one “t” not two. Kelli Ward gave John McCain a very good run for all of his money. Kelli has strong support throughout the state. Last Thursday we had a meet and greet for Kelli here at the Trumped Store in Show Low Az. The Support was unbelievable. Our Store was packed with supporter’s non-stop from 2 pm through 7pm. Jeff DeWit announced several times over the past year that he is not nor has any intention, to seek a senate seat for Arizona. Kelli is a very conservative woman who would make a very good senator for our state and help President Trump to get his agenda through the Senate. Hope you move forward and give Kelli your support.
