1-14-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor     Web Master John Strasser

The Mandatory Meeting For All Maricopa County Republican Precinct Committeemen will be today - Sat, Jan 14 - at the El Zaribah Shriner’s Auditorium, 552 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ 85008. Credentialing opens at 9 am and closes at 10:30am.

Briefs Sent MCRC Chairman Candidates identical questions so you can get to acquainted with both candidates. Candidates are limited to 300 words for their response. Question #9: Why should I vote for you over your opponent?

TRISTAN MANOS: Thank you, Frosty, for this 9-round Q&A opportunity to present myself to the MCRC PCs, and beyond. I’ve worked hard to make it clear to the readership why I’m in the best position to serve and represent MCRC PCs -- “We The PCs” -- as MCRC Chairman, enthusiastically and positively promoting the Republican Party, Republican Platform, and Republican candidates, getting Republicans elected throughout Maricopa County, and keeping Maricopa County a Republican stronghold. See Tristan’s Answers to Frosty’s Questions. It’s extremely important the new MCRC Chairman be strongly committed to maintaining a strong and faithful partnership with President-Elect Donald Trump and his administration, taking advantage of the momentum and opportunity to promote the “Make America Great Again” movement throughout Maricopa County. I’m the only candidate running who, early on and strongly, backed Donald Trump, because I’m the only candidate who rightly saw Donald Trump’s campaign agenda most directly, boldly, and strongly addressing the “First Things First” for Americans: “America First.” I’ve been working hard on the “Make America Great Again” movement all along, long before it became a campaign motto. My opponent, however, dismissed Donald Trump on mainstream TV, then finally gave in and submitted to -- followed! -- the masses throughout Arizona and America voting so strongly for now President-Elect Donald Trump. In my opponent’s own LD (where he was recently Chairman, 1st, and 2nd Vice Chairman), PC membership is an extremely low 21%! (only 80/380 PCs! and in almost 1/3 of the LD’s Precincts, there’s 0 (zero) PCs!). Imagine that kind of “leadership(?)” throughout the MCRC. We deserve better. More and more people I’ve been meeting say they’re voting for me because they see me as “The Real Deal.” Vote Tristan Manos to stand up for you, providing strong and responsible leadership, “Making PCs and the MCRC Great Again!”

CHRIS HERRING: I made a pledge when I got into this race not to say anything negative about any opponent. I've kept that pledge. So even though the question is "why me and not my opponent", I'm only going to talk about my campaign. I fully understand the difficult job that is the MCRC Chairmanship. Running the largest Republican County party in the country isn't easy. And it's made more difficult with a PC roster full of "ghost" PCs. I've successfully run a county wide Republican organization, recruiting over 100 18-40 year olds to join as members. I have a training program that I've taught to PCs of multiple districts ready to roll out to the entire county on day 1. I want the LD chairs and every PC to have an even greater voice in the direction of the county. I believe that together we can take back the seats we lost in 2016 and add even more to our Republican majorities. I am asking for your vote for myself and Aaron Flannery on Saturday, Jan. 14th.

Meet Yvonne Cahill, MCRC 2nd Vice Chair Candidate: Today we will elect leadership to take us into the next election cycle, a critical time that cannot be left to chance. I am asking for your vote not because I may be your friend or because someone told you to – but because I am the most qualified for the office. I have been an active PC and in the Arizona Federation of Republican Women for many years. Rules matter, deadlines must be met, and an understanding of the bylaws is crucial to be a highly effective party.  As an active volunteer for the Trump campaign in Arizona, I spent many days and nights walking, knocking, calling, and putting up signs. I have done the same for many candidates for state legislature, congress, and other offices in every cycle for years. Voting in our primary election is not an option, I am a 100% primary voter – anyone in leadership should walk the walk not just talk the talk. If you believe as I do – that this crucial time in our party’s history is no time for beginners, one who doesn’t view voting in all elections as necessary or uses flashy slogans with no substance but, that this position requires someone with dedication to the purpose and principles of our party - then I am asking you to cast your vote for me, Yvonne Cahill for MCRC 2nd Vice Chair Saturday.

Meet Cynthia Love, MCRC 2nd Vice Chair Candidate: My name is Cynthia Love aka Cyndi Love a write-in Candidate for 2nd Vice Chairman of MCRC because after prayer and careful consideration I decided to continue my role as a disciple of volunteerism to expand the republican grassroots movement I started last election season in Maricopa County, Currently, our republican grassroots strength is operating at 43%. We are less than 50% of the allowed number of PCs and that is not acceptable. We must move beyond the threshold of politics and reunite our growth and opportunity party to KEEP AZ RED! I hold a master’s degree in Public Policy and Admiration. I have served on many boards, and worked in corporate America specializing in recruitment, sales and training throughout the country which has well prepared me to lead Maricopa County republican grassroots operation to success. Precinct Committeemen, I am ready to work for you! Let’s get the grassroots journey restarted today to KEEP AZ RED! Let’s bring new energy, positive attitude, and great results to our Maricopa County Republican Party by electing Cynthia “Cyndi” Love as your next 2nd Vice Chairman of MCRC.

ATTN Maricopa County GOP PCs: For The Past Year, PCs and State Committeemen have complained about some of the shenanigans that were pulled at last year’s Maricopa County and the AZGOP Statutory meetings. In an effort to prepare this year’s attendees, the Silliness Site has posted a well-researched two-part YouTube video narration Of-Improper-Motions-Voters-Representation-Precinct-Committeemen-Political-Parties-Statutes-And-Bylaws or for a written version go to Of Improper Motions, Voters, Representation, Precinct Committeemen, Political Parties, Statutes, and Bylaws. It is well worth you time to get acquainted with the guidelines revealed in either link. Watch the video, be prepared, particularly if you think your LD might be targeted for disenfranchisement to keep you from voting on agenda items or running for an officer position.

Congrats to Mark Lane, who has been elected President of the Paradise Valley District School Board. Some will remember when his mom, Nancy, held the gavel for the PVSD Board in the 70s or 80s. She chaired the United Parent Council and also headed up the Little League Board for years in Paradise Valley. A playing field at 36th Street and Cholla is named after her. Mark has some big shoes to fill as he follows in her footsteps.

Things are moving and shakin’ down in Pima County where newly elected Pima County Republican Committee Chairman David Eppinhimer has already appointed a “Branding Committee” as the results of a six hour retreat at Pima GOP HQ last Saturday. Brad Johns will chair the committee, assisted by committee members Ana Henderson, Cynthia Coleman and Dylan Boswell. Their task is to flesh out an action plan, according to Eppinhimer.

The Republican Office at 99th and Bell, 10050 West Bell Road, Suite #50 is planning a “pot luck bunch” and will live stream Donald Trump's 2017 Inauguration ceremonies at 10am Arizona time, Fri., Jan 20. The Pima County Republican Exec Comm adopted a mission statement – Engage,  Education, Elect -  last Saturday, according to Chairman David Eppinhimer.

Engage, Education, Elect.

·         Engage voters in their Republican vision for the future.

·         Educate voters and Precinct Committeemen in what the Republican Party truly stands for and how they can make a difference.

·         Elect Republican candidates in Pima County.

Activist Milvia Stokes to AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham: The Republican Party of Arizona should start looking for two new candidates for US Senators, making sure they are not narcissistic, vindictive or leftist sympathizers.

The Obama Administration Ends “Wet Foot, Dry Foot” Policy Giving Cubans Reaching U.S. Soil Automatic Residency President Obama, in one of his last foreign policy initiatives, will lift the policy that has allowed Cubans reaching U.S. soil to stay and receive American residency, while sending home those intercepted at sea, according to U.S. officials.

AZGOP Action Team Coordinator Kathy Hedges is calling for volunteers for the next couple of weeks to stuff envelopes, make badges and fill packets for the State Meeting starting at 10 am, Fri, Jan 13 and Sat., Jan 14 at AZGOP HQ, 3501 N 24th St. in Phoenix. They will start working on badges on the 16th and again go until done. They will start stuffing packets on Jan 21 for the Jan 28 meeting. RSVP

Briefs Sent Identical Questions to the three AZGOP Chairman candidates. Their answers will be posted every day, in the order in which they came in, until the Jan 28 Mandatory Meeting election. Question #12: Will you conduct regular state committeeman meetings? And will you open those State committeeman meetings to any/all PCs to sit in on?

FRANK THORWALD: Yes, I would have regular state committeeman meetings and I would ask those state committeemen to be active in specific roles to be determined by their individual expertise, to assist the state party in a variety of ways that would include providing ideas and input, assisting in training, communications and support.  We have a great resource here and we need to utilize it to the greatest extent possible. With respect to PCs sitting in, I have no problem with that if room is available.

JIM O’CONNOR: The annual meetings of the AZGOP are for the purpose of electing officers of the state party on a rotating basis, voting on proposed resolutions, and voting to adopt bylaw changes if any are proposed. The rent for venues to hold the meetings are currently estimated at approximately $7,000.00 each. This is a necessary but costly item in our budget. To accommodate a larger attendance will proportionately drive up the cost of these meetings, as would an increase in the frequency of them. One of my first initiatives will be to ask for the Executive Committee’s cooperation in our installing video conferencing equipment into each of the 15 County Headquarters offices (or specified locations for those county committees without an office), so that we can meet with greater frequency without the burden of long and costly driving expense and hotel overnight stays. My expectation is that we will be able to transition to allowing credentialing at those locations for purposes of future voting at both Statutory and Mandatory meetings. That will make room for guests and visitors at all venues. This will ease the burden for every member of our party to become better informed in a timely way and just imagine the headquarters lead trainings we could deliver. I already have a candidate in mind who will be perfect leading this project through full implementation.

JONATHAN LINES: Of course I will conduct all legally mandated meetings, and will always ensure that all state committeemen receive ample and proper notice. I am certainly open to handling additional meetings, either with all State Committeemen or with individual SCs in their home areas. I will always make sure that PCs feel welcome at any such meetings, even if they are not on the state committee. Again, my guiding principles will be accessibility and transparency, just as I’ve done in Yuma.
