Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor       Web Master John Strasser

LD23 PC Ardith Hildebrant: “Frosty, I am just letting you know that I am a duly elected State Committeeman in LD23 and as of right now 9:45pm on 1/23/17 I still have not received an AZGOP Call for the Statutory meeting for Saturday 1/28/17. So, I have no idea what will happen on Saturday, but I still intend to show up.” Editor’s Note: The AZGOP website says:”… A formal call letter will be mailed to all state committeemen at least ten days before the meeting.” As of 3 am., this morning, there doesn’t appear to be a Call Letter posted on the AZGOP website for state committeemen to download or view. The List Of 1,235 State Committeemen can be downloaded at: – ft

The state committee will also elect three members- at-large to serve on the state party executive committee - three from each of Arizona’s nine congressional districts, with all candidates running from the floor. Party Chairman Robert Graham appointed Barry Wong Chairman of the Resolutions Committee, Kathy Petsas Chairman of the Bylaws Committee, and Sergio Arellano Chairman of the Nominations Committee.

Graham-Continues-To Push-Lines,-Disenfranchise-Arizona-GOP-GrassrootsAcross Arizona, Republican Party members are watching as the power struggle between AZGOP Chair Robert Graham and grassroots activists plays out. ATTN AZGOP State Committeemen: For the past year, State Committeemen have complained about some of the shenanigans that were pulled at last year’s  AZGOP Statutory meetings. In an effort to prepare this year’s attendees, the Silliness Site has posted a well-researched two-part YouTube video narration Of-Improper-Motions, Voters-Representation, Precinct-Committeemen-Political-Parties-Statutes-And-Bylaws A written version can be downloaded at the same link. It is well worth you time to get acquainted with the guidelines. Watch the video, be prepared, particularly if you think your LD might be targeted for disenfranchisement to keep you from voting on agenda items or from running for an officer position at the Jan 28 AZGOP Statutory meeting in Phoenix. – ft

Briefs Sent Identical Questions to the three AZGOP Chairman candidates the past couple of weeks to help our readers become better acquainted with those seeking to head up the state party. Reader Question #20 - How would you keep AZ from going blue since the Rep party has gone that way?

JIM O’CONNOR: I am in this race to clean up the corruption and deceit within the ranks of our party. Our current Chairman is using Saul Alinsky tactics with the bullying he is delivering upon the 119 duly nominated, elected and sworn-in State Committeemen by Secretary of State Michele Reagan on 1/14/17 at the MCRC Statutory meeting.  Unfortunately, Chairman Graham has chosen to threaten to either bar LD 23 state committeemen from entry, or (word is now circulating that) he plans to put the question of removing 119 LD 23s state committeemen to a “vote” of all state committeemen in attendance. His shenanigans are exposed as over reach in his quest to hand the chairmanship to Mr. Lines. Mr. Graham no longer has the confidence of the majority of the State Committeemen and must be removed from office by a vote at this Saturday’s meeting in order for our party to conduct a clean and fair election. He has had many opportunities to stand down, but has been emboldened as too many State Committeemen have let him get away with his “unauthorized acts”. Mr. Graham has abused his duties to be neutral in this race, and now first must stand for a vote of the body assembled.

Now is the time for current party leadership to ask him to remove himself (including any Parliamentarian he has chosen to do his personal bidding) and allow an impartial and trusted Republican to seat LD 23 State Committeemen and conduct a fair election. Do not allow this “emperor with no clothes” to embarrass our party any further.

Elected party chairman are accountable to the body of state committeemen. He only gets away with operating outside his specified authority if our state committeemen allow him. So the question of “unity” rests with every voting state committeemen; what will your vote be, in favor of a future party run by the political machine or by we the Republican Party PCs?

JONATHAN LINES: "The Republican Party is the largest voting block in the state. This is because of the hard work of our conservative base fighting for their principles, and the dedicated efforts of the state party to reach out and bring in new communities to our Party. If our elected officials in Arizona truly continue to work to protect our freedoms and bring opportunity to all, I believe we will be able to take the party to new heights."

FRANK THORWALD: No response at post time.

Sen Debbie Lesko was on Square Off Live with Brahm Resnik Sunday. When asked about the protests, she said: "The thing that we have to remember is that for every person that was out protesting there are millions more that voted for Donald Trump. There were millions of Americans and women throughout the country voting for Donald Trump and they didn't go out and protest, but they said what they felt through their vote."

John Graham, President & CEO Sunbelt Holdings: I know that on any project, getting the foundation right is always the first priority.  That’s because any mistakes you make in the foundation will result in compounding defects, getting worse as the building goes up. The same premise holds true for educating our children! As an education advocate, having worked with leaders across Arizona, I know the importance of early childhood literacy and the influence it plays on a student’s pathway to academic and lifelong success. As an education advocate, having worked with leaders across Arizona, I know the importance of early childhood literacy and the influence it plays on a student’s pathway to academic and lifelong success.
I was pleased during his recent State of the State, Governor Ducey articulated the importance of Full Day Kindergarten by stating, “Parents love it. Kids benefit from it. So I say – let’s expand it.” Ducey has proposed investing dollars into Arizona’s lowest-income schools to start or expand full-day kindergarten to address an issue we know is critical to closing the achievement gap: the ability to read by third grade.
I support the Governor’s efforts to make full-day kindergarten available to our most needy students.  I also know that full implementation of kindergarten will only be possible with additional resources.
I believe that Arizona’s policymakers must identify new resources not only the implementation of full day kindergarten but also, investing in teacher recruitment and retention and a myriad of other needs outlined in the Governor’s State of the State.
I look forward to working alongside Gov Ducey as he drives his education agenda, particularly in the area of early literacy, with the expansion of full-day Kindergarten in our low-income schools and as he works with leadership from the business community to identify new resources, in the form of additional dollars, to invest into our classroom and create additional opportunities for Arizona’s students.

Town Crier Jim Ehl, former LD Chr: Look what is going on all around us.  In a representative Democracy, when an individual is elected to office, it is expected that the voters who didn’t vote for that person is simply expected to go along with the election.  Look at the hypocrites' who wouldn’t attend Trump’s inauguration, all the demonstrations and efforts to discredit or dislodge President Trump, and look at the hypocrites in AZ GOP, party and government, who are given to doing their own thing for perks and power instead of following the will of WE THE PEOPLE.  And, party perks and power along with apathy of the committeemen lets them get away with it.

In a few days we’re going to have an election for the chair of AZ GOP.  The one who wins should make it clear that he will return the AZ GOP to WE THE PEOPLE and represent them accordingly by changing the autocratic state bylaws and formally listening to the 15 county chairs as his executive committee.  If we stay in this autocratic mode of running the AZ GOP we will continue see more of the same.  All of the talk about WE THE PEOPLE will likely by silenced.  For example, it appears right now that the state chair is interfering with LD business.  We’ve addressed ‘LEADERSHIP’ in the military, business and in ‘voted’ leadership.  What do the 15 county chairs and state committeemen think about that?    The AZ GOP bylaws state “Duties of Elective Officers 1. Chairman The state chairman shall be the recognized leader of the state party and, in cooperation with the county chairmen, shall coordinate statewide party activities”    Is he representing their position??

LD21 PC Johnny Melton: I am a life-long registered Republican and a deeply committed limited-government Conservative. Prior to last year I had never been involved as a PC. Until then, I focused my activism on volunteering for the campaigns of many conservative candidates; Congressional and State-wide. In the 2016 cycle, I was an ardent supporter of Sen. Ted Cruz and proudly took up the cause of "NeverTrump". Then things changed. I was contacted by Chris Herring. He was working with the Cruz campaign and knew I was a supporter. He told me all about what a PC was and recruited me into the LD-21 fold. I was elected as a PC in August.  But Chris didn't stop. I remained "NeverTrump" even after Ted's devastating loss in Indiana. Following the Cleveland Convention, Chris was relentless in trying to convince me to support our nominee. He reminded me of the duties a PC assumes when he or she accepts that responsibility. He reminded me that my duty was to my fellow Republican voter, who relies on their Precinct Committeeman to act as conduits of voter information and encouragement.  Because of his inspiration I visited hundreds of homes throughout three West Valley cities, knocking on doors and delivering campaign material for GOP candidates, from Trump to CAP Board. Chris believed we all had to do what it takes to defeat a third Obama term. Because Chris wouldn't give up, I didn’t give up. Chris Herring is a man without hubris or pride. He is a leader and a role model. I am proud to count him as a mentor .

President Halts Hiring Of Many Federal Workers He signed an executive order that he said would affect all employees “except for the military.” Trump promised a hiring freeze during his presidential campaign that also included exemptions for public safety and public health.

The Senate confirmed Mike Pompeo, President Donald Trump's pick for CIA director, on Monday night. The vote was 66-32 in favor of confirmation, with Pompeo picking up some Democratic backing. The only Republican in opposition was Sen. Rand Paul.

The Promises Obama Kept — And The Ones He Didn’t Barack Obama laid out dozens of promises during his two presidential campaigns. Now that he has moved out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., we evaluate: How have the results stacked up?

Congressman Paul Gosar: Congratulations to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence on being sworn in as the 45th President and Vice President of the United States! Arizonans are ready to get to work on Making America Great Again! I was honored to be joined by so many of you who made the trip to Washington D.C. to witness this historic event in person. There is a lot to be excited about in the coming year but there is much work to be done. I look forward to hitting the ground running on your behalf.

Congresswoman Martha McSally after the Trump Administration announced its nomination of former Congresswoman Heather Wilson to serve as Secretary of the Air Force. “I have known Heather Wilson for years and have sought her guidance and advice many times in the past. She is a principled, servant-leader who has demonstrated her intellect, integrity and talent in the military, in Congress, and in the private sector. She is immensely qualified to serve as Secretary of the Air Force and I commend her nomination.”

Congressman Andy Biggs: President Donald Trump reinstated the “Mexico City Policy,” which was established by President Reagan in 1984 to ban federal tax dollars from funding international organizations that promote or provide abortions. Biggs said: “As we reflect on the 44th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade and look ahead to Friday’s March for Life rally, I am pleased that President Trump has reinstated the ‘Mexico City Policy,’ and placed an emphasis on the dignity of life. I hope that this action will be the first of many from the new administration and Congress to protect and defend life."

Congressman Paul Gosar: Barack Obama’s presidency ended this past Friday, Arizonans can celebrate knowing that they successfully blocked a massive federal land grab which threatened to stifle economic development and kill jobs in our rural communities. In the face of environmental extremists teaming up with a president hell-bent on abusing the Antiquities Act, Arizonans united in one voice to oppose more of our land being unilaterally locked-up by the federal government. I was honored to lead the charge against this misguided land grab for our communities. But this was a team effort and this massive victory is a result of the tireless work by local stakeholders and grassroots groups who united with my office to send a clear message of opposition all the way to the Oval Office. While we were successful in our efforts to block this monument designation in Arizona, there is still much work to be done during the Trump Administration to rein in the outdated Antiquities Act. Local communities deserve to have their voices heard before a president can lock up millions of acres of land with one stroke of a pen. I continue to call on President Trump to repeal the land grabs executed by former President Obama where significant local opposition was present including Bears Ears, Utah and Clark County, Nevada. AZGOP Chairman candidate Jonathan Lines: It’s official: Donald J Trump is the President of the United States, and as Arizona Republicans, we played a huge role in making that happen. Together, we delivered Arizona’s 11 electoral votes to President Trump, despite claims from the main stream media and leftwing blogs that our state was going to turn blue. It didn’t happen, and if we continue to work together and unify our party, it will NEVER happen! Of course, our victory in November and the President’s inauguration last week is just the beginning of a lot of work ahead, but I feel optimistic about the future of our state, and the future of our country.
For those state committeemen I haven’t had the chance to meet, my name is Jonathan Lines. I am a husband, a father to 11 terrific kids, and a lifelong Republican activist. I’ve been blessed serve three terms as Yuma County Chairman. As Chairman, I’ve worked hand in hand with our dedicated PCs to take a blue county and turn it red. President Trump carried our county, and we recently elected our first Republican Sheriff in decades. We’ve done it in Yuma; I want to translate this success to a statewide mission, to turn all 15 counties red!
Since I first announced my intention to seek the chairmanship of the Arizona Republican Party, I’ve been gratified by the support I’ve received from conservative stalwarts. I’ve welcomed dozens of conservative activists from across the state, from young Republicans all the way up to some of our longest-serving PCs. Our campaign is open to every Republican that seeks a unified, conservative party with a singular goal of winning elections by defeating Democrats. I hope you will consider joining our team. If you have any questions, please email me at  or see my website

Senator Sylvia Tenney Allen: A call to all citizens and government entities to uphold property rights and protect our rural economy.  Many rural counties are experiencing a decrease in county revenues.  Every county in my District is experiencing some impact to their economy.  Navajo is especially impacted due to the closing of units at Cholla the impact of anti-coal regulations, and power companies switching to natural gas generation.  Other factors are entering into this static economy.  When new businesses want to settle in Rural Arizona they are stymied by pressures from many direction, environmental, regulatory and lack of investment dollars and other impacts.  Existing businesses are feeling the same impacts and especially the new minimum wage law. Government entities have a responsibility not only to public safety but to the prosperity of our citizens.  When government increases code and regulation requirements there is an unseen consequence to businesses and property owners.  I believe strongly we can have public safety without over regulations.

Governor Ducey has called on the state regulatory entities to evaluate the consequence of any new regulations. Go to RedTape.AZ.Gov to make recommendations about regulations impacting your businesses or property.

I have watched the erosion of personal individual and property rights by government and by our citizens.  We no longer respect others and we think that we have a right to control what is theirs.  Of course we need basic laws that protect the safety of others but not to the point of regulating and controlling every aspect of our lives and our property.  It kills the human spirit and destroys the ingenuity of our citizens.  Home ownership is the lowest it has ever been and if we are to help the upcoming generation to realize this most import dream then we need to help our free market stray FREE from excessive government regulations and control.  That means it starts with you and your attitude towards what others own and how they run their business.
