Royce T. Flora, Maricopa County Treasurer  and Russell K. Pearce, Chief Deputy Treasurer to Arizona Legislature: We all campaign on taking care of the taxpayer, for lower taxes and less regulation; and we continually fail to take care of the most vulnerable - our senior citizens. Republicans claim to be the vanguard for seniors many of whom are veterans. Arizona voters passed a Constitutional Amendment to protect the low income seniors from the out of control property tax increases that are literally taxing them out of their homes:

Article IX, section 18, subsection (7), Arizona Constitution

7) A resident of this state who is sixty-five years of age or older may apply to the county assessor for a property valuation protection option on the person's primary residence, … To be eligible for the property valuation protection option, the resident shall make application and furnish documentation required by the assessor … combined total income from all sources including nontaxable income shall not exceed five hundred per cent of the supplemental security income benefit rate established by section 1611(b)(1) of the social security act…

Legislators passed a law enabling counties to create an Elderly Assistance Program to help qualified seniors with increasing school property tax. This program created in effect a subsidy funded by the same group it was trying to assist. This program was defunded leaving qualifying seniors completely without the assistance they desperately need. Property tax is a government lien not a self-induced mortgage and it is government taxing them out of their homes. Maricopa county foreclosures have increased by over 400%.

Taxing people out of their homes is getting worse.  It is critical that the legislature meet their obligation to protect these taxpayers. House Bill 2006 would move the qualifying senior’s primary residence from class3 to class 6. Only seniors who meet the requirements under the Constitutional Senior Freeze would qualify. House Bill 2006 would save many seniors from being forced out of their homes.

I am asking the legislature to work with me to assist these seniors. They have paid taxes all of their lives. House Bill 2006 would not only help our low income seniors but it would benefit the state general fund by $2.7 million each year, according to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee. This is a practical solution to a serious and growing problem. -

House-Republican-Targets Dems For-2018 The early target list includes 36 members, one-third of whom represent: Republicans, already hoping to expand their House majority in 2018, have devised a 36-seat list of top Democratic targets for the next two years — and they are particularly focused on blue-collar parts of the country where President Donald Trump is popular. The National Republican Congressional Committee’s target list provides an early window into how the GOP is preparing for the midterm elections — a still-far-off political fight, but one that is already taking shape behind the scenes. One-third of the districts, detailed in a NRCC spreadsheet, are seats that President Donald Trump carried over Hillary Clinton even while a Democratic House member also claimed victory. That segment of the list is heavy on blue-collar districts in the Midwest, which Republicans believe will be especially fertile political territory in the Trump era.

As the Administration of President Obama comes to a close, Rep. Trent Franks took to the House Floor to lay before the American people, and history, the record of Barack Hussein Obama. The full transcript at this link.

Congresswoman Martha McSally after Air Force Chief of Staff General David Goldfein stated at a media breakfast that the Air Force will retain all A-10 aircraft until at least 2021.“I welcome Gen Goldfein’s comments about retaining all our A-10s until at least 2021. Air Force leadership clearly recognize that the previous decision to mothball the A-10 was a mistake and that this aircraft can continue to play a critical role in strengthening our national security. My provision in last year’s NDAA requiring an A-10/F-35 fly-off before any A-10 can be retired aligns with this timeline. I also applaud comments about developing the requirements for a suitable replacement to follow the A-10. We need to start a serious discussion about what will preserve the A-10’s crucial capabilities in future Close Air Support scenarios, and I look forward to contributing to that discussion.”

Congressman Andy Biggs: Yesterday, Intel Corporation announced that it will invest $7 Billion into its Chandler facility, creating 3,000 jobs in the factory and 10,000 additional jobs around Arizona. The announcement came as Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich met with President Donald Trump in the White House to release the news. According to CEO Krzanich, “the most powerful computer chips on the planet” will be produced at the facility. Congressman Biggs released the following statement: “I’m thrilled with today’s announcement from Intel about the creation of thousands of new, East Valley jobs. President Trump and Congress are betting on Americans by cutting regulations and resetting the economic climate that has beleaguered our nation’s businesses for the past decade. This announcement continues a new era of business opportunity across the country and will provide a better future for many in the East Valley. I look forward to working in Congress, with President Trump and East Valley leaders, to bring even more jobs to the region.”

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: Phoenix to Vote on Sanctuary City Status- I'm voting NO!- Next Wednesday, City Council will be voting on a request to make Phoenix a Sanctuary City. I have and will continue to oppose this. You hear many politicians make big promises about Phoenix becoming a Sanctuary City, but they are afraid to go on record and vote. That is why I believe this vote should happen. Instead, I predict City staff will find a way to kill the vote before it takes place, so that those same politicians won’t have to put their money where their mouth is. Well, I’m not afraid of a vote. I will always vote NO to Phoenix becoming a Sanctuary City.
