Congresswoman Martha McSally will hold a town hall at 2 pm., Fri, Feb 24, at Arizona Optical Systems in Tucson after meeting with company leadership and touring the facility.

Utah Republican Party Chairman James Evans has urged members of Congress not to hold town halls after what he called "thuggish behavior" at an event Feb. 9 by Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz. According to the Sale Lake Tribune, Chaffetz will continue to meet with constituents.

LD18 Rep Jill Norgaard: Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the AZRRT Legislative Activity Report by Jose Borrajero in the 2/19/17 Briefs regarding Republicans that continue to vote with Democrats.  Norgaard (LD18) voted against disclosure of federal funding levels bill, HB2212. Reference Bill:  HB2212 which mandated additional reporting by the schools to provide federal information that is already available to any constituent who requests it. It also excluded: The Judicial Branch, the Legislative Branch and any 4 office or other entity within or under the Judicial Branch and the 5 Legislative Branch. Why request more unfunded mandates?

AZGOP Secretary Gabby Saucedo-Mercer’s version of what happened to her at the Feb 21 meeting at AZGOP headquarters reported in the 2-22-17 AZGOP Update , and 2-23-17-briefs. “For three weeks after being elected State Party Secretary I requested AZGOP to provide access to my written list of AZGOP records, including official records of the January 28, 2017 Arizona State Statutory Meeting. I was promised and then refused access. I drove from Tucson to the AZGOP Phoenix office to see records but was rebuffed. I was unable to get an appointment to even review my workspace or discuss responsibilities and meet the staff. I was not offered any orientation. I was not offered any direction, no business cards, no meeting with the Chairman or even a congratulations. Instead I was insulted by a staff member, was sworn at and forced to drive back to Tucson with no compliance from AZGOP. I was concerned that hostility, humiliation and excoriation were the ways that the AZGOP under Chairman Lines intends to treat those he did not support at the Party election. That concern was confirmed at the February 21 appointment that I finally got scheduled.

“I arrived from Tucson at the AZGOP office exactly on time. Intending to review records, I brought three state committeemen Lynne Breyer, Timothy Schwartz and Tim Horn with me. Avinash refused to show me the records because I was accompanied by those who had requested to look at the election records both at the statutory meeting and, as directed by Avinash and the Credentials Chairman, at the Executive meeting that followed. It was made clear by Tim Horn of the O’Connor campaign that there was no allegation of wrongdoing but rather because of the closeness of the election (34 vote difference) they wanted to review the documents to confirm the results. This reviewability was clearly stated in the Election Rules approved on by the State Committeemen on the morning of the election. Upon request, it was agreed that access to the documents, I believe were to be provided within 10 days. So on this, the 24th day after the election; they still have not been provided; they refused to comply with the rules of the election. I note the irony that this is mostly the same people who attacked LD23 for violating rules that were found to not exist, but they are refusing to follow the rules that do exist.

“An attorney by the name of Langhofer - who is known to work for Senator McCain - was there, to represent/give counsel to Avinash. Why would any attorney be there to meet with me and others to see records we should have had access to weeks before? During the meeting it appeared that Langhofer did not know the AZ GOP Bylaws regarding the Secretary, or that I had provided written records to former staffer Theresa Martinez - copied to Chairman Lines, Timothy Lee and Tim Siefert.

“The meeting went on for one hour and 45 minutes, I was told by Avinash (Executive Director) that he would only allow access to specific voter walking lists, voter information, and other general records; that I must speak to Chairman Lines to get his personal permission for anything else. If I was going to be denied access to anything I had requested, why wasn’t I told in advance about the denial? Lines knew about the appointment and instead of giving access he gives me an attorney who works with McCain. We went over the weeks old list I had provided and immediately requested to disregard the overall AZ voters request. Avinash told us that the records I was asking for were not there - which according to Timothy Lee - the records never leave the AZ GOP office. I also note that a former State Party Secretary from outside Maricopa County kept records at home, that the Bylaws do not prohibit that; but I was only provided copies of minutes from 2003 forward to take with me.

“We were insistent that our requests be provided, and were consistently refused to even see them. We warned that the continued refusal to provide access to records of the Secretary and the records requested regarding the state election would force us to disclose this action to others. Horn underscored that this should be avoided because it makes the Party look bad.

“Attorney Langhofer told us that he took orders from Avinash and that Avinash took orders from Jonathan Lines. Langhofer said he called Chairman Lines to ask why the records were not been made available to me and the other State Committeeman. Langhofer came back into the conference room. Then Attorney Thomas B came into the conference room and sat down without introducing himself to anybody or stating his business/need to be there. He did not speak one word except when I asked him who he was. Langhofer asked for two days to give us an answer. It is now noon on Thursday, Feb 23.

“I was given copies of the historical minutes of official AZ GOP meetings dating back to 2003 and a two page copy of the AZGOP Online Voting results, but no minutes about the statutory election, and l was refused access to anything else. Editor’s Note: Mercer’s response runs beyond the normal 300 word limit policy because the turnover of the Secretary records has become such a hot topic among grassroots party members.

Update: As of last night, Mercer had notified Lines that she would be in Phoenix on Friday (today) and would again stop by the office to see the records she had requested.

Yavapai County Activist Jim Dutton: McCain’s off for another photo op with Terrorists? This guy should be recalled by Arizona and replaced with someone that doesn't desire and pretend to be King.  Oh that our legislature would work as hard to repeal the 17th Amendment as they do to promote the impotent Article V Convention of States.  Mccain-Makes-Secret-Trip-To-Syria-As-US-Debates-New-Plans-To-Fight-Islamic-State

Center for Arizona Policy President Cathi HerrodThe Arizona Senate affirmed the sanctity of life today with two critical votes. Babies born alive during a failed abortion attempt may get a second chance at life thanks to the Arizona senators who voted today to pass SB 1367 onto the House. Any baby born alive deserves every chance to live. Existing law requires doctors do everything they can to save the baby’s life. SB 1367 would equip them to do just that. I agree with SB 1367’s sponsor, Senator Steve Smith, when he said on the floor today, ‘The baby is outside its mother now, it’s no longer an abortion.’ Senators also passed SB 1439 to protect health care providers whose deeply held beliefs prohibit them from treating patients in a way that could cause their deaths. Doctors should never be forced to be involved in the death of a patient they took an oath to care for and treat. I applaud the Arizona Senate and ask House members to follow with equally bold and compassionate actions. See how senators voted here.

ASU College Republicans hosted Phoenix City Councilman Jim Waring last night on campus.

Pima County Tea Party Patriots are asking conservatives to call or contact the offices of Senators John McCain, Jeff Flake and Martha McSally on Mon., Feb 27 to remind them to keep their promises to repeal Obamacare. Suggested/modified text: Dear …. “There are no more excuses. The Affordable Care Act is not affordable. It’s time for you to follow through on your promise and do away with the health-insurance law. I urge you to fully repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including all provisions relating to federal regulation of the insurance market.
