3-28-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor       Web Master John Strasser

The Yuma County Republican Central Committee will meet at 7 pm., Tues, March 28 at the Goodwill Career Center, 8th Ave and 32nd St., in Yuma to address election of a new chairman since Jonathan Lines was elected Chairman of the Arizona GOP in late January.

Former AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey: James T Harris is a strong conservative voice coming out of the Tucson area, who has one of the best radio shows currently broadcasting anywhere in this country.  Just in case you don't know about him, yet. Congressman Dr. Paul Gosar is one of the truest conservatives in government today.  Just in case you don't know about him, yet.  As a way of spreading the word about both of these gentlemen, to those of you who don't live in Arizona, I'm sending a link to a recent broadcast where they discuss what happened and "the time out" in the effort  to "repeal and replace" Obamacare.  What really happened (really, really) and the need for us to cut through all of the smoke and mirrors surrounding this achievement.  Yes, I am saying "achievement". Like many, when first looking at the bill brought forth by the Republican Establishment Elite, I was hoping it would pass, with, of course, the proper amendments.  That is until I saw what was really loaded into it, and the fact that it would manifest as a lifeline to the democrats and other special interests groups, saving them from the pit, into which, they have dug themselves. President Trump should not be the subject of blame for what happened.  I believe he should be admired for pulling off one of the greatest head fakes on the Establishment since his election. Every person who gives a damn about their health insurance needs to hear this link and then pass it along to family and friends. This really needs to be out there.-james-t-harris-show with Paul Gosar

LD23 PC Judy Rutkowski: After reading Boe James' comments & critiques of LD23's recent and upcoming Legislative Breakfasts and 2016 Christmas Party in the 3-25-17-Briefs, I am obligated to respond and set the record straight.  First of all, it's interesting that Boe didn't attend the 2016 Christmas Party, but he is apparently fit to disparage it as offering "just snacks" for $25 per person.  For the record, the menu was as follows: Bruschetta, Penne Primavera, Meatballs, Penne Vodka, Chicken Marsala, Dessert, Soda, Wine, & Coffee. That's some "snack," huh?  My husband and I attended that event, at The Waterfront across from Fashion Square, and thoroughly enjoyed the food and company with almost 100 other guests, many of whom took extra food home.   Just snacks, indeed.  The upcoming LD23 Pancake Breakfast, on April 1, is an encore of the Spring 2015 Legislative Breakfast, which was another enjoyable event with a great "community" feel and plenty of tasty food.  Almost 100 people attended in 2016.  (Boe didn't attend that event either.)  This year, $18 in advance (same affordable price as last year) provides a breakfast buffet of pancakes, baked ham, assorted pastries, fresh fruit, juice, & coffee.  Again, delicious food and great company are the expectations.  What makes an event classy or worth the cost?  If other PCs or other Republicans would like to judge for themselves, there may still be some room for you to join us on Saturday, April 1.  You can visit ("Important Dates") for details.  I'm looking forward to it.  Yum!

Thanks For The Calls and notes of concerned over Briefs not getting posted for several days. I injured my foot and have been slowed down a bit. I tried to do a lot of catch up this morning. But many of your message are yet to be answered. - ft

Mike Kechula: I appreciate all the work you do to keep us so highly informed, every day.  Get well soon!  We need you. Thanks and regards.

Karen Thomas: Good to have you back, Frosty, but so sorry to learn about your foot injury.  We missed you and our daily Republican Brief fix.  We’ll pray for your foot to heal quickly.  God bless.

Marilyn Box: You do a great job.  Take care of your foot.

PC Mark Lewis: Here’s is another news item showing how $19 billion in wind tax credits are being used to kill coal mining jobs in the Western US. The news item xcel-announces-$16-billion-investment-wind-energy-south-plains-new-mexico shows Exel Energy building $1.6 billion wind farms in NM / TX to capture the tax credits. .

   · Coal mining jobs lost in NM & AZ = 1,600 @ 85,000 each = $136 million yr.

   · Wind power jobs in NM = 30 @ 45,000 each = $ 1.3 million yr.

   · Net loss to rural coal and energy communities = $135 million year

The TX coal plant closing uses coal from the PRB and the Crow Nation. Renewable energy projects with the massive tax credit subsidies are killing rural communities in AZ, NM and TX. And Midwest congressional republicans joined democrats in voting for this massive job killing tax credit program to enrich renewable billionaires.Let’s ask Trump to shred the $19 billion tax credits and give them to clean coal. We need Congressional republicans to kill the Wind Tax credits for billionaires and put in back into jobs. The solution for local communities AZ / NM economic losses is to change the definitions of severance taxes to include wind power harvesting at the same tax rate of 12% used for coal and natural gas extraction. More updates on energy matters. CAP Director Mark Lewis: Representing Maricopa County on the CAP Water board and not the view of the CAP BOD

Congressman Paul Gosar: Last week, the news was dominated by the debate about the American Health Care Act. There was a lot of misinformation surrounding this legislation that claimed to "repeal and replace Obamacare," and I want to take a moment to cut through the noise and give you my perspective... Since Obamacare was first enacted unilaterally by the Democrats, millions of Americans across the country lost their doctors, lost their insurance plans and have paid dramatically more for premiums and deductibles.

clip_image002This map shows, Arizona has been one of the worst hit states inflicted by Obamacare’s failures with premiums increasing by 24%.  In several counties, only one insurance company remains. That is not choice. That is the beginning of a death spiral. Americans learned after the fact that the key promises in Obamacare were lies, and its chief architect, Jonathan Gruber, admitted that ‘lack of transparency’ and the ‘stupidity of the American voter’ helped Congress approve the bill.

Obamacare must be repealed... not modified.

Government-mandated healthcare has proven to be a complete failure. After countless broken promises and skyrocketing premiums, it’s obvious that patient-centered, free-market reforms are the only way to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for everyone.
Historic Republican wins in elections in 2010, 2014 and 2016 have given Republicans a clear mandate to throw this bad law out. Virtually every elected Republican promised to repeal this disaster

The American Health Care Act FAILED to accomplish this clear goal.

This bill still left in place too many of the big-government Obamacare mandates and regulations that are responsible for the rising cost of premiums and limited competition. Trying to build on top of Obamacare’s broken foundation, instead of starting over, is a recipe for disaster. The bill created a new advanceable, refundable tax credit, thereby creating a new entitlement. Why are we accepting the false premise that people are either entitled to a health care subsidy from their employer or the federal government? What happened to the free market? Rather than accepting the narrative that this bill was the best we were going to get, I joined my colleagues in the Freedom Caucus and banded together to call a TIMEOUT on the American Health Care Act. You deserve better than this legislation and I will not break my promise that I made to deliver a full repeal of Obamacare. Now is the time to start from square one in building collaborative healthcare solutions that focus on putting patient choice first, allowing free market competition and fixing the inefficiencies in our current system.

Congressman Paul Gosar: BUT THERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS: Last Wednesday, an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the House joined me in taking a historic step to begin rebuilding America’s healthcare market. As a dentist for over 25 years, I know first-hand that restoring the application of federal antitrust laws to the business of health insurance is the key to unlocking greater competition in the marketplace. Making health insurance companies compete in a free-market will result in huge benefits for hospitals, doctors and most importantly, patients. History has always shown us that when we put the patient first and demand that health insurance companies compete for their business, premiums go down while quality goes up. I’m proud to have led this effort in the House and call on Senate leaders to take up this bipartisan legislation in a timely matter. Click HERE to learn more about my bill.

Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee: “The public demonstrations unfolding in Minsk today are a powerful expression of the democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people. Over the past several weeks, thousands of Belarusians have gathered to preserve their basic human dignity and demand accountability from their government despite facing repression and violence. It is inspiring to see their perseverance. President Lukashenko should immediately and unconditionally release the hundreds of citizens who have been unjustly detained and arrested for exercising their fundamental right to free expression and assembly and respect its citizens' civil liberties. The Belarusian people deserve the freedom to chart their nation's future, and it is time the Government of Belarus respond to their legitimate demands.”

Senator John McCain and Congresswoman Martha McSally reintroduced in the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively, the Transnational Criminal Organization Illicit Spotter Prevention and Elimination Act, legislation that would enhance penalties for “spotters” who warn Mexican cartels or human traffickers about the position or surveillance efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol or destroy border controls by increasing fines and imposing a maximum prison time of 10 years.

Senator John McCain on meeting with Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian activist who was hospitalized last month for the second time in the last two years due to suspected poisoning: “Today I was deeply grateful and honored to meet with my dear friend, Vladimir Kara-Murza, for the first time since his hospitalization last month. Vladimir has been a brave, outspoken, and relentless champion for the Russian people. He has kept faith with his ideals in confrontation with a cruel and dangerous autocracy. And despite another attempt on Vladimir’s life, it is clear to me that the revolutionary spirit of this brave Russian patriot is unbroken. The same is true of Vladimir’s countrymen who joined protests this weekend in nearly 100 Russian cities against the tyranny and corruption of the Putin regime. I have been particularly heartened to learn that so many of the thousands who exercised their rights were young people and students. These patriots were fully aware of these risks—indeed, hundreds of peaceful demonstrators were detained in a revealing sign of the insecurity of the Putin regime. But they persisted in speaking truth to power, chanting ‘Russia will be free!’ Because of the determination of Vladimir Kara-Murza and the multitudes of patriotic Russians just like him, I am ever hopeful that the cause of truth and justice for the Russian people will be victorious.”

Tracy Livingston, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate: As Arizona’s next superintendent of public instruction, I want to be the champion for all students, at the highest level of curriculum possible, and I want to start not at the top, but at the bottom with our youngest and most vulnerable students. That’s why I support expanding voluntary full-day kindergarten to Arizona’s neediest students. It’s a great first step in making Full Day Kindergarten in Arizona the full-day grade it should be. My article Why Kindergarten Is My Top Priority appeared in the Arizona Republic.Full-day kindergarten must become a voluntary grade if we are truly committed to getting every child prepared for a successful future. I will fight to ensure we have the highest standards, and teachers who shepherd your child into the world of wonderment and knowledge. By doing so, we will all be able to breathe a little easier knowing that our children will be ready to read by the time they reach third grade, and that they'll be ready to face the challenges ahead no matter what they are.
