clip_image002Gabriela “Gabby" Saucedo Mercer will address the Western Pinal County Chapter of the Arizona Republican Assembly at 6:30 pm., Mon., April 10 at 408 N. Sacaton St. #2 in Casa Grande, AZ. Mercer was born and raised in Mexico, immigrated legally to the USA in 1986 and became a Naturalized Citizen on July 3, 1991. She left the work force in the Aerospace Industry in 1992 in order to raise her three children and continue her education.  She has held positions of leadership within the Republican Party in Pima County and the state party – including past 2nd vice chairman and currently the AZGOP Secretary.  In 2012 and again in 2014 she ran Congress against Raul Grijalva (D) in CD3.  Gabby has been involved with the Republican Party in Pima County as well as the State Party.  She has held several elected offices and currently serves as the AZ GOP Secretary. AZRA Meetings are Free, donations accepted. Contact: Nancy Hawkins at

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel: "The Democrats have put up the most obstructive path. We're looking at what they did with healthcare. They didn't come across to try to fix the problem that they created. Now you're seeing it with the nomination of Neil Gorsuch. They're going to filibuster, for the first time, Democrats will filibuster a Supreme Court nominee." Click To Watch

LD26 PC Barbara Medal: I am wondering why our new county chairman failed to notify post or generally let all the Maricopa Precinct Committeemen know that an election was going to be held for the office of county Member at Large so that any PC so desiring could chose to put their hat in the ring??? We hear that our Party leaders are open, honest and transparent yet the PCs are the last to know anything. As the EGC actually stands for the Executive GUIDANCE Committee one wonders if the District Chairmen were advised and GUIDED to let their PCs know of the opportunity to run for a county office!  My district Chairman certainly did not pass on any such information  and isn’t that the job of our chairmen; all of which have been duly elected by the PCs to represent us - the PC who deserve much more information and accountability from the leadership that they put in place to LEAD? It was stated by one District Chair that he was too busy to read emails and send out any special notification that PCs need to know. Maybe too busy to be a chairman??? Fellow PCs we put them in office to represent us yet the need to know what they are doing seems to be just another way to control who gets to run and to keep the leaders in the ‘good ole boy’ club; we the peons just do what they tell us to do and when to do it. NOT what I signed on for, I represent the Republican voters and their best interest not the advancement of cronyism and control of the Party by a few. Time to stand up PCs; they forget who they represent -- it is us the PRECINCT COMMITTEEMEN!

MCR Member at Large Wes Harris: Regarding Triston Manos' comments  4-5-17-briefs concerning the MCR EGC (we are no longer the MCRC) meeting last night I cannot let his comments go unchallenged because the election of MCR Member At Large held last night was anything but what Triston perceived.  He must have been on the moon to not know about this special election to replace Mr. Tom Morrissey who moved out of Maricopa County and therefor resigned his position three months ago.  The special election was to be held at last month MCR EGC meeting (which I believe Triston attended) but was postponed by Chairman Chris Herring in order to insure that every eligible member of the Maricopa County Republicans could and would be properly noticed of the opening.  Notices were emailed and each LD Chair was instructed to inform their respective PCs of this election.  If Triston wanted to be considered he was welcome to place his name in nomination from the floor as did Mr. Timothy Schwartz.  Only two PCs actually contacted the Nominations Committee to place their names in nomination so the ballot was wide open for any PC that wished to be considered. Frankly, here of late the Briefs seems enamored with negative comments by a small group of  disgruntled PCs who are apparently more interested in driving the GOP down than promoting our Republican Principals and getting out there and recruiting both Republican voters and Republican PCs.  I think we need a moratorium on this pettiness with more emphasis on promoting our Conservative Principles offered to the Voters and getting more people to step up and get involved with Making America Great Again. Editor’s Note: Letters reflect the opinions of the PCs who write/sign them – “disgruntled” or pleased. Be assured Briefs is not “enamored” with some of their comments, but they have the same right  to express their opinions that you do. – ft

MCR Chairman Chris Herring: Thank you Wes. I spoke at length with Tristan after the meeting last night. I explained to him that we do not have an email list for our PCs so I could not email all PCs directly so the Chairs were asked to notify PCs. To my understanding this has been the standard approach for these vacancies in the past as well. Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, when the LD Chairs don’t forward information to the Precinct Captains or PCs, the PCs remain in the dark. - ft

clip_image004Mark Lewis, Director Central AZ Project: News of a Whitehouse supported Carbon Tax, is yet another attempt at fake news by WaPo and others to keep Trump off balance. A Carbon tax is wildly un popular with Reps. and Dems, but very popular with renewable energy companies and big utility companies looking to have tax payers subsidize their company. Obama was planning a massive carbon tax under the Clean Power plan and EPA rules that the Republicans in Congress and Whitehouse rescinded some parts of that tax last week. The best friend of the low cost energy sector is Rep. Paul Gosar and his leadership at the Western Caucus. His efforts to save mining jobs, and hydropower projects are the greatest thing to happen in 10 years.

Trump supports Hydropower in his latest statements Hydro a "great, great form of power"on Monday. The CAP Water System has options to make hydropower, that I support. Hydropower works at night and provides more than 8% of AZ clean power needs. (graphic below) America was built on Hydropower, Coal and Nuclear over the past 110 years in the west. Here is the current energy mix for AZ now, however our coal power is at risk.

Keep in mind when you drain the swamp the swamp is going to fight back. Call your congressman, and offer to help write letters, organize meetings and do research for them on swap draining projects. Fake News is everywhere, so do some research before you react to news items. You have to act now to save the Republic from fake news. Lewis is representing Maricopa County on the CAP Water board and not the view of the CAP BOD. Darcy Olsen, CEOGoldwater Institute: You might have heard about Juan Carlos Montesdeoca, targeted by Arizona bureaucrats for giving free haircuts to homeless people. Once homeless, Juan finished cosmetology school last year and decided to use his newly learned skills to give back to the community. But Juan received a warning from the Arizona Cosmetology Board to stop giving free haircuts immediately! The board threatened to never give Juan a license because of his good deed. Regulators routinely shut down businesses before they have a chance to start and routinely go after creative new businesses that don’t fit neatly into the current regulatory structure. We believe people should have the right to start businesses as long as they aren’t hurting anyone. Creativity and entrepreneurship go to the heart of the American Dream.  That’s why we developed the Right to Earn a Living Act, or the “innocent until proven guilty” rule. This new law, signed today by Arizona Governor Ducey, protects the right of Americans to start new business ventures. Under the law, regulators can’t harass new startups or interfere with someone’s plans to launch a business and get to work unless they can prove that the entrepreneur’s activity is harmful. This means someone like Juan – could proceed with his work. Over the years, state courts have downgraded the right to earn a living to second-class status. The reform restores that right to an original position. Government still can issue regulations that promote public health and safety. But under the Right To Earn A Living Act, agencies must prove their rules actually protect the public from harm. With this reform, business owners are “innocent until proven guilty,” which is as American as it gets. We expect to see many more businesses open…and this is exactly how it should be! To learn more about the Right To Earn A Living Act, please visit here. We’re thrilled to have restored the American Dream in Arizona and will now move this idea across the country. See

The time to contact the Governor is now!  We have prepared an email for you to send to the Governor urging him to sign SB 1344 into law.  You can send it as is or customize it with your remarks.  Click here to send your email to Governor Ducey. AZ Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas shared her concerns regarding the lack of important funding for statewide support of K-12 academic standards in the House of Representatives’ initial draft budget framework, which recently was made public. The Arizona Department of Education’s (ADE’s) $1.1 million request to the Governor and Legislature for its K-12 Academic Standards Division, which was completely included in the Governor’s initial budget recommendation in January, would prevent the loss of up to 10 full-time employees who provide essential support and resources in the development, revision and implementation of the state’s academic standards. “It is important to remember that we ended up with Common Core because Arizona was not funding standards support and instead turned to the federal government for money several years ago,” said Douglas. “After finally replacing Common Core with standards that truly belong to Arizona, it would do our children a major disservice to let all of that progress fall by the wayside. We owe it to our students and our schools to fund our standards so that we finish what we started and complete the critical work that is yet to come.” The lack of funding would stop that process and prevent any updates to standards even with changes to requirements or research, and would eliminate the Department’s statewide, consistent system to deliver professional development and resources for standards to schools and teachers. At a minimum, the content areas impacted would include English language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, STEM, world and native languages, health, physical education, and educational technology. The Department’s K-12 Standards Unit previously was federally financed through the Race to the Top grant, which has since been eliminated. ADE has attempted to identify alternative sources to support the unit’s work, but will be unable to fund the staff positions beyond this fiscal year.

Sen John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on yesterday’s chemical attack in Syria: “Yesterday’s chemical attack against innocent men, women and children in Syria is just the latest evidence that the Obama Administration’s much-lauded agreement with Russia to eliminate the Assad regime’s chemical weapons stockpile was flawed and incomplete. As we once again bear witness to innocent people writhing on the ground and gasping for breath, we know Assad not only disregarded his chemical weapons commitments, but continues to carry on mass atrocities with impunity. Unless and until Assad pays a price for his brutality, the slaughter and destruction in Syria will go on. After six years of indecision and inaction, President Trump has been left with no easy options in Syria. Yet as difficult and complex as our challenges are, President Trump and his administration have an opportunity to finally change course and take action to address this strategic and humanitarian disaster, which has led to more than 400,000 Syrians killed and six million displaced. Seizing this opportunity will require answering some very difficult strategic questions. But until we do, the war, the terror, and the refugees will continue, and America’s national security interests will be placed at greater risk.”

Phx City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: PHX loses $145 million on hotel - WITH YOUR MONEY: Money that should have gone for Police, Fire, Streets & Parks went to a City of Phoenix owned hotel worth about $145 million less today than it was when the politicians built it with your money. See Laurie Roberts: Phoenix Can't Even Unload Its Hotel For A Dead Loss?

  • 2004:  Phoenix paid $350 million to buy the downtown Sheraton hotel.
  • Value Today:  Less than $250 Million
  • Projected Operating Losses:  $45 Million
  • Total Loss to Taxpayers:  $145 Million

It's time for this fiscal nonsense to come to an end. Phoenix needs more police officers and our streets are crumbling. $145 million could have added hundreds of police and fixed our streets. And still politicians are not being held accountable for these horrible decisions.

I am supporting a legislative bill sponsored by Senator Warren Petersen that will stop cities from owning hotels, Senate Bill 1371. No surprise here that Phoenix politicians are fighting hard to stop this bill. Please help Senator Petersen help you by voicing your opinion. (602) 926-4136.
