4-11-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

LD 22 Rep David Livingston has announced he will be running for the LD22 Senate seat in 2018 pending the departure of long-time legislator Judy Burges, who is currently the LD22 Senator. Livingston’s seat mate, Rep Phil Lovas will be leaving soon to join President Donald J Trumps administrative team in Washington, DC. "Congratulations to my seatmate Phil Lovas on his appointment. I wish him the best of luck making the SBA Great Again! His departure, combined with Senator Judy Burges impending departure, leaves a real void in our district. I will be a candidate for State Senate in 2018 and know that we can count on LD22 to identify and elect great conservatives to fill our two House seats as well." said Livingston. Livingston is an award-winning conservative who has been the district¹s top vote getter in recent elections. He served as Majority Whip in 2015-16 and currently serves as Chairman of the Banking and Insurance Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.

LD22 PC Miryam Gutier-Elm is seeking the appointment of the LD22 House seat being vacated by Phil Lovas’s invitation to join the Trump Team in Washington DC. As you may recall Lovas was among the hardest working members of the AZ Trump Team prior to the November 2016 elections.

Former PC Paul Pennypacker is back in the hospital getting more anti-venom. In her words: “…Was taking out the recycle - opened my kitchen door that leads to garage and BAM snake bite! Did not see or hear it. My husband was scheduled for brain surgery at 5:00 am in the morning. Was rushed to hospital and missed his surgery - unbelievable! Snakebite Paula is back in ICU. Follow up blood work showed I needed more anti- venom! Ugh!” Sounds like the Pennypacker household could use some prayers and get well wishes. – ft.

La Paz County Chair Russell Sias: Frosty, Thanks for the history lesson!  Appreciate your involvement and knowing your story.  Thank you for watching out for us all.

LD13 PC Jeff Knox: Thanks for all you do keeping us informed, and Happy Birthday to you

Former Maricopa County Republicans Chairman Lyle Tuttle: You wrote - “What a lucky woman I am to have been given the opportunity to record ‘history in the making’ here in Arizona for the past 50 years. – Editor Frosty Taylor” I say: We are the lucky ones to have you doing what you do, and so well.  I know there are those who have no clue about how ethical you are in researching, composing and sharing BRIEFS with Republicans all over the US while they write their pathetic little "RINO BLOGS"...one blog (who, unlike you, are NOT 'real reporters and to cowardly to sign their names to their lies) even claimed you were not a 'real' reporter.....I guess that shows how much they know!! You EARNED your 'stripes'; wear them proudly!”

LD22 PC Jim Keller: Thank you for you dedicated service for the MCRC Briefs and all the other contributions to the Republican Party cause. After reading all your accomplishments in today's "Briefs" I'm saying "WOW" you are a great person helping many others.

Activist Sally Geyer: I am very impressed with all you have done Frosty.  Thank you for spending all the time on your column—we deeply appreciate your efforts.

Sally Geyer turned 80 on April 7. Briefs hopes she has many more birthdays.

PC’s Tristan Manos, Dan Grimm and Wes Harris also had birthday’s last week, but they have a ways to go to catch up with Geyer and this editor. – ft

Arizona State Board of Education President Reginald “Reg” M. Ballantyne, FACHE - Proverbs teaches us to “train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” A unique opportunity awaits Arizona to train up our children in early literacy that will chart a new course toward a legacy of literacy. With the choice of full-day kindergarten, a rich destiny awaits our State and generations to come from a literate, engaged society. I recently wrote a piece for the Arizona Capitol Times entitled, “Full Day Kindergarten: Breaking the Cycle of Imprisonment by Literacy.” As a businessman and President of the Arizona State Board of Education I wholeheartedly support Governor Ducey’s proposal to expand access to full day kindergarten for Arizona’s neediest children as the first step in making kindergarten a voluntary full day grade for every family in Arizona. See full-day-kindergarten-breaking-the-cycle-of-imprisonment-by-illiteracy Data teach us that although Arizona students have made significant gains in academic achievement as measured by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) compared to the nation, our State continues to be plagued by an achievement gap in the critical skill of reading. The past teaches us about our future: by providing a full-day kindergarten option to Arizona families and children, we formulate, as a State, the seminal solution that breaks the cycle of imprisonment that illiteracy creates. With full-day kindergarten, our children reap the promise of an enriched mind and spirit from literacy. Ballantyne is the Former Chairman of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Former Chairman of the American Hospital Association.
