4-13-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net       Web Master John Strasser

AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines has announced newly hired Executive Director Matthew Kenney started at AZGOP Headquarters yesterday. It came as no surprise to informed GOPers. Rumors have been flying for months that if Lines won the AZGOP Chairmanship in January 2017 that Kenney would become his right-hand man. In case you have forgotten, ADI called the Lines’ Kenney pick in December. See Establishment-Lines-Up-Behind-Yuma-County-Chair and Seeing Arizona Red’s Key-Info-Preceding-AZ-GOP-Jan-28th-Meeting and Jonathan Lines New AZ GOP Chair — More Of The Same Longtime political consultant Constantin Querard’s yesterday’s Facebook  starts out, “A lot of Arizona Republicans woke up this morning to find out they owe Jim O'Connor an apology. I'm one of them... The next time Jim tells you what's going to happen in the future, you ought to take him seriously!” Lots of interesting response to CD’s post. Needless to say, phone lines were humming in Phoenix yesterday.

Torunn Sinclair has been hired as the AZGOP communications director, according to AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines. Sinclair is a former deputy communications director for Gov Doug Ducey’s campaign team.

When LD22 Senator Judy Burges, who is termed out as a senator, was asked if she was considering running For Her Former Position In The House, She Replied, “No, I’m not going back to the House. It is time to retire.” Editor’s Note – Burges, well-know conservative West Valley legislator, has served in the legislature for 14 years.

Last Week There Was Quite A Bit Of Flap about LD Chairs not forwarding information on to their PC, consequently few knew that the election to replace former Member-at-Large Tom Morrissey was on the Maricopa County Republican EGC agenda. Morrissey recently moved to Payson. In all the exchange about that issue, no one mentioned that former LD17 Chairman Shadow Asgari was elected to replace Morrissey at the MRC Executive Committee meeting. She was immediately sworn in by Chairman Chris Herring.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Congressman David Schwiekert: In an effort to find a solution that will stabilize the individual healthcare market so that insurers can return to states like Arizona with competitive policy options for individuals, I have co-authored a four-page amendment that brings risk sharing to the individual market to protect our brothers and sisters with pre-existing conditions. This amendment would create a federal high-risk sharing program that would offset some of the costs for those Americans who receive the most expensive care. Creating a level of certainty in the health insurance marketplace would dramatically lower premiums for all Americans. Similar risk sharing models have reduced prices, and increased market participation. This amendment would similarly decrease the number of uninsured, without Obamacare’s federal mandate from the IRS to buy health insurance. From my time serving as Maricopa County Treasurer, I learned the importance of efficiently mitigating high-risk costs and advancing sound fiscal policy that increases access for Arizonans. The Schweikert-Palmer Amendment is the first step in finding a conservative, pro-growth solution ending the skyrocketing costs of Obamacare and stabilizing a market that is near collapse.

What does the Schweikert-Palmer Amendment do? The 5% of the population that is the sickest and drives 50+% of the cost of healthcare has their costs contained and given a direct funding source. This means that children with diabetes, seniors needing end of life care, or moms and dads with MS will not be denied coverage and their insurance providers will have a pathway to keep prices low. This model has worked in many states. At the federal level, it may be the most elegant solution to our common objectives. Please feel welcome to watch the videos below and share any feedback. Your voice improves this process. My work is about the American people, and I remain committed to fixing American healthcare, bringing solutions for Arizona, and getting this done right! Watch the House Rules Committee Hearing for the Schweikert-Palmer Amendment

Congresswoman Martha McSally answered a wide-range of questions during student town hall with Cienega High School’s senior class of roughly 450 students. The Congresswoman answered student’s thoughtful questions on a wide range of topics including U.S. military involvement in Syria, the high cost of a college education, and the consequences of our $18 million national debt. McSally also discussed the importance of leadership, education, and her journey into military service and public service. “I enjoyed the opportunity address Cienega High School’s senior class students today. Many students asked me questions on a broad range of issues and I appreciated our robust discussion about current events. This next generation is the future, and I encouraged these youth to continue to remain informed and engaged members of our democracy,” McSally said. When she addressed the students, McSally told them about her time as an instructor pilot and how she would tell students before they went on their solo flight “to not do anything dumb, dangerous, or different.” As students approach graduation in five weeks, the Congresswoman gave them the same advice, urging them not to endanger their future and to use good judgment in these final weeks of school. McSally also encouraged the high school seniors to stay informed and involved in civic engagement. See photos click HERE Brief footage click HERE.

Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on the United States’ policy in Syria:x"President Trump's decision to strike back against Assad for using chemical weapons against innocent civilians was a strong statement much appreciated by the civilized world. What is needed now is a strategy that secures U.S. and allied interests in Syria – ending the conflict, dealing a sustainable defeat to ISIL and Al-Qaeda, and beginning to repatriate Syrian refugees to their homes. Our strategy cannot presume to separate the fight against ISIL from the Syrian people's fight against the Assad regime. They are inextricably connected. Assad is a puppet of Iran, and as long as he continues to slaughter his own people, it will be impossible to destroy the radical terrorist groups that occupy Syria and the region, and the war will never end. Nor will the threat posed by these groups to our nation. As part of a broader strategy, we urge the President to take greater military action to achieve our objectives, including grounding the Syrian air force and establishing safe havens inside Syria to protect Syrians. There will never be a diplomatic solution as long as Assad dominates the battlefield."

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

Congresswoman Martha McSally has announced that she collected nearly $750,000 in the first quarter of 2017, bringing her cash on hand total to over $630,000. This number is significantly larger than the amount she raised in the first quarter of 2015. See crystalball/2018-house

Sen. Jeff Flake has announced that he raised $1.4 million in the first quarter of 2017.  The amount raised represents one of the best quarters ever for Flake's campaign. "It's gratifying to have such strong and early support for my campaign," Flake said. "Campaigns are tough and expensive. We're off to a good start." Flake recently hosted hosts President George W. Bush for the campaign's first major reelection event.

I'm Chris Ekstrom, The New National Finance Chairman For Kelli's Campaign. Back in 2016, I created Courageous Conservatives PAC to place a series of hard-hitting ads on the air in Iowa, New Hampshire and other early states in the GOP primary. I have been a major supporter of Senate Conservatives Fund and in the past have focused on helping full-spectrum conservatives such as Chris McDaniel in Mississippi, Josh Mandel in Ohio, and Ted Cruz in Texas. And get this—I maxed out my campaign donation to Jeff Flake in 2012. That's right—the new National Fundraising Chairman for Kelli Ward was a max donor for her opponent in his last election. Jeff Flake stabbed all of his supporters in the back by claiming that he would vote like a conservative if we put him in the US Senate. We now know his true colors. Within just two months of being elected he joined the Gang of Eight and voted to give illegal aliens Amnesty losing all of his former supporters—people like me—and my friends in the Senate Conservatives Fund. This is why I contacted Kelli and asked to be her National Finance Chairman. America deserves better and Kelli Ward is committed to making that happen. It's time to drain the swamp once and for all. Will you join me in supporting Kelli's bid for the Senate? Since we are a campaign powered by the people, not big donors with special interests, we rely on small contributions from patriots like you. It's imperative that we defeat Jeff Flake and other fake conservatives in 2018. This election will be a test to decide what type of Republican Party we will be. I'm excited and humbled to join Kelli's team and am looking forward to being victorious in 2018!

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Last November we secured a tremendous victory thanks to the support and hard work from people like you, but for the Democrats the battle never ended... They have already made it clear they will do whatever it takes to unseat me. I am fighting back but right now, they are in the midst of a three-pronged, orchestrated attack against me:

· Leftist special Interest group "SAVE MY CARE" has $50,000+ on a TV attack ad against me in my district starting today.

· The DCCC, the primary fundraising arm of the national Democratic party, has named me a TOP TARGET and has already started rising money to defeat me.

· The Democrat special interest group MoveOn.org has put me on the top of their list in their nationwide series of "Congressional Stakeouts;" they are organizing massive protests at my district office.

This three-pronged attack is serious and I have every reason to believe this is just the beginning. That's why I need your help, now before they launch their next wave of attacks. I am outnumbered. It's three against one, and while I am busy doing what I was elected to do in Congress these three organizations are dedicated solely to defeating me. Without your help, I fear we will not have the resources necessary to combat them on my own. That's why I am asking you to stand with me today.
