Arizona-Court-Former-Attorney-General-Tom-Horne-Denied-Due-Process-Campaign-Case The Arizona Supreme Court has voided lower-court decisions in the long-running case against former Attorney General Tom Horne centered on allegations he broke campaign-finance laws. In an opinion filed Thursday, the state high court concluded the case should be sent back to the Attorney General's Office for a final administrative decision, and noted the office Horne once presided over "does not have a conflict."

Utilities-Owner George-Johnson, Former-Corporation-Gary Commissioner-Pierce-Indicted-On Conspiracy, Fraud-Charges Former Chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission Gary Pierce and water company owner George Johnson were indicted this week in federal court on charges of bribery, conspiracy and fraud. The charges filed in U.S. District Court on Tuesday said Pierce approved higher rates for Johnson Utilities in the East Valley and Pinal County in exchange for $31,000, which the company funneled to his wife. Also named in the eight-count indictment were Sherry Pierce and lobbyist Jim Norton, who the indictment said "agreed to act as a conduit" between Johnson and Gary Pierce.

LD 18 Precinct Committeeman Dan Schultz To Former MCRC Chairman Lyle Tuttle: Thanks for your post to the Briefs a couple of days ago and thanks to Frosty for prominently posting it. 5-24-17 Briefs archive It was short, logical, and had the right tone.  Now if we could only get every LD chairman and county chairman to get on board with this goal and make it happen.  Tyler Bowyer even obtained a free Voter Gravity account for the county committee members (that’s all Maricopa County PCs) on which we could have had all Maricopa County PCs establish an account so they could communicate with each other and with their LD officers and county committee Executive Guidance Council members and, still, almost all of the LD chairs would not help make that happen.  Oh well.  I hope, Frosty, you will re-post Lyle’s post at least once a week until we make some significant progress on this.  Of course, this begs the question, what system does the current EGC have in mind for putting all these 3,000 or so names and email addresses onto?  What capabilities will it have?  Will it be as good as Voter Gravity?  Will they use Nation Builder?  Something else?  Or will it just be a one-way email list?  Schultz is a former MCRC Secretary & Member-At-Large.

Former Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Lyle Tuttle: 5-24-17 Briefs When a person decides to serve their neighbors as a precinct committeeman, certain things are taken as understood.  For example, a small part of that person's life enters the public domain.  They become an "Official of the Republican Party" - (or whatever Party they choose to assist).  As such, they have a RESPONSIBILITY to make themselves available to the public.  Their basic information (name, address, party affiliation) is now public information and available to anyone from their county elections department.  It has been this way for as long as I can recall.  However, time marches on, and now we have modern things like telephones and email - both much faster and less expensive than "snail mail".  If you do not want the emails and phone calls, you have no business being a precinct committeeman - you can't FULLY do the job.  For those who are worried about those 'extra telephone calls', I ask you to consider them again - my experience shows me that those are from people who want to share ideas and/or information relevant to the Party.  As for emails, it is very easy and simple to create a new FREE and different email address to share with "THE PUBLIC".  Use that email address for politics and set your email software to automatically "sort" all emails to that address into a different 'mailbox' on your computer that holds only those emails sent to that address.  That keeps your personal, private email address out of sight. Bottom line:  If you choose to be an active member supporting your chosen political party, SHARE THIS INFORMATION!  To do otherwise is like driving your car down the freeway with all of the other drivers wearing blindfolds: You can see them but they can't see you -- a sure-fire recipe for failure!

The Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund, also referred to the Schools’ Endowment, reached another new milestone under State Treasurer Jeff DeWit growing to $5.57 billion at the end of April 2017. "The hard work and incredible staff at the State Treasurer’s Office continues to produce great investment results," DeWit said. "After beating most university endowments in 2016, the winning streak continues for our schools’ Endowment." Last year, the fund’s return beat many of the large public investment funds in the United States including CalPERS, CalSTERS, Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford and Harvard. "Managing the investments internally, right here in the Arizona Treasurer’s Office, has been a huge win for our schools as it allows them to earn more and keep more of their money," DeWit said. "These record earnings are on top of the fact the Endowment has paid out nearly $225 million to schools this fiscal year, more than any year in Arizona’s history with two months to go." The $5.57 billion Endowment returned 10.06% in the first 10 months of this fiscal year that started July 1, 2016. "This return has outperformed our benchmark, demonstrating that our strategy to be conservative in our bond investments is paying off," DeWit said. "Rather than reach for yield in our bonds by investing long, we have kept our bond investments shorter than the benchmark to protect them from a rise in interest rates." As a statewide constitutional officer, DeWit serves as the state’s Banker and Investment Official for the State of Arizona, charged with the prudent custody and management of taxpayer monies and oversight of nearly $15 billion in assets under management.

AP Chairman Ron Ludders: A few thoughts about Memorial Day.  Since many of us are older Americans, you may remember it as "Decoration Day", a time when we would decorate the graves of those who had given their lives in the armed services of our country.  Today, many folks see it a day off work, or time to have a bar-b-que, or whatever, and that's OK because our fallen hero's fought and died for our individual freedoms. But, sometime during the three day weekend, stop for a few moments and solemnly consider that our fallen have given up all their tomorrows for us and unborn generations.  There are solemn ceremonies going on around the State, consider attending one of them, it the least we can do in remembrance of their sacrifice.
