Republican Briefs

AZ-Senator-John-McCain-Made-Fool-Of Himself Twice  “One in questioning former FBI Director Comey and second blaming his incoherent questions on staying up late watching a ball game. If the senator is that fragile, he should hang it up and give a younger person the opportunity to represent Arizona. He has been in DC for over 30 years which makes him a part of the swamp problem and not a solution….”

Activist Call to Action: Activist are needed to attend the June 21 Phoenix City Council meeting to oppose the proposed increase to the Public Safety Debt. See memos from Councilman Sal DiCiccio and long-time GOP Activist Wes Harris below. - ft

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: I just talked with the city manager and they will be putting on the Tuesday agenda for discussion only and then a vote on June 21 to increase the Public Safety debt.  I asked the cost:  He said for an extension to 30 years is approximately $2.3 billion that would be added to the debt.  For a 25-year extension; approximately $1.1 Billion. I told Ed this was the worst move I had ever seen at the city.  I asked, if a person could not manage his own personal financial issues, is it a good thing to tell him he needs to increase his own debt?  Use more debt to pay for debt? I told him that his was nothing but a sneak attack with very little time to activate the public on a $2.3 Billion expense-almost double the current general fund budget of approximately $1.2 Billion.  The budget hearings went through a very long vetting.  For an expense of about double he was only going to give a two-week notice?  And, the public hearing part would essentially be nothing since there are no meetings scheduled before the 21st actual vote. Finally, I told him that he was setting up the next city manager for failure.  That he personally was digging a hole so deep that the city may never recover.  This was on his shoulders and that cities never recover from these types of shenanigans. We will get the report tomorrow.  Any chance you all could help get the word out and help mobilize people? Thank you all.

Activist Wes Harris to Republican PCs, State Committeemen, PC Captains and MCRC Members-At-Large: So what do we do?  Perhaps the CPC, MCR, and AzRA can mobilize to get people down at city hall on June 21 to oppose the incresase in Public Safety debt. I suggest that a call go out from MCR Chairman Chris Herring to all LD chairs that have the City of Phoenix within their districts to mobilize.  Additionally, AzRA has membership within the city that can help as well.  By copy of this note I am requesting Jim O'Connor and Ran Ramsey to move on helping us as well. There is no City Council meeting on June 14 and we missed yesterday's meeting.  If we have any hope at stopping this we have to mobilize every PC in the city to get down town to protest this move.  As Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio points out, little notice and no public hearings will cause this to fly through as all of the Democrats on the Council will vote for it unless there is some resistance from the citizens.  There is no better time for the MCR & AzRA to flex its muscles.  Contact Harris at 602-432-2871 (c) 602-942-9281 (h) 602-942-5327 (f)

AZGOP Treasurer Bob Lettieri: This outline is intended to update you on my functions as AZGOP Treasurer since elected on January 28, 2017, and to clear up a number of misleading reports that have showed up in various blogs and news sites. In order to obtain working knowledge of the AZGOP office operations as it applies to the Treasurers function, I have been working at the office Tuesday and Friday mornings. I communicate regularly with AZ GOP staff, including but not limited to Executive Director Matthew Kenney and Compliance officer Timothy Lee. Both gentlemen, along with Chairman Lines, have made sure that I have all of the resources to do my job as outlined in the AZ GOP bylaws. Additionally, I have been performing a monthly review of the financial information in Quick Books and preparing a monthly Treasurers report for the Chairman and the Executive Director. In preparing the April and May Treasurers report, individual expenditures within each line item category were reviewed.   During this review I found no evidence of expenditures incurred by the AZGOP related to travel and meals or lodging concerning a trip to Hawaii. Moreover, since Chairman Line’s election, there have been no improper expenditures or inappropriate financial activity. We have also been asked about routine audits that the party traditionally undertakes following an election cycle. The AZGOP has received Engagement Letters from an Independent CPA firm to conduct and audit of 2014 and 2016 financial statements. The Engagement Letters are being reviewed by AZGOP counsel and are expected to be signed by the Chairman. In summary, as treasurer I now have access to the prior year’s financial information contained in the AZGOP books of record. We are working well as a team, to insure the financial strength of the party and the continued success of Republican candidates. I will be presenting a full Treasurers report at the June 17th Executive Committee meeting. Editor’s Note: The AZGOP Executive Committee meeting will be held in Flagstaff.

Former AZ Gov Janet Napolitano's -Staff-Accused-Of-Tampering-With-State-Audit-Of-University University of California (UC) president Janet Napolitano’s office is under investigation for allegations that her staff tampered with a survey ordered by the state auditor. According to a story first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, UC’s board of regents has hired none other than former state Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno as well as a local law firm to investigate the allegations that Napolitano’s office improperly viewed a confidential survey.

RNC Chairwoman on The Media Underestimating The American People Chairwoman McDaniel: "Listen, the only group that is less self-aware than Hillary Clinton is the media. It continues story and story after another that's not true. That's against the president. They did it all through the campaign when he was candidate Trump. Now they are doing it as the president and underestimating the American voter. We see through it. We recognize that this president is fighting for the American person. For jobs and wages and better healthcare and national security. The media can continue to lack self awareness and continue to lie and be dishonest but middle America knows the president is fighting for them."

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) has seized a deer, bobcat and javelina since June 2 that were illegally taken captive while young by Tucson area residents and reared as pets. The mule deer buck was taken to the AZGFD Wildlife Center in Phoenix for treatment, and then will go to Bearizona in Williams. The bobcat was placed at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and the javelina moved to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center in Scottsdale. Taking captive and holding young wildlife is illegal take of wildlife, and illegal possession of restricted wildlife, in addition to being a public safety hazard. Circumstances warranted issuing only warnings in these cases. In most instances, baby mammals should be left in place, untouched, unless obviously injured. Although they may appear orphaned, baby mammals are typically left alone by their mother for long periods of time while she forages for food and water. Baby mammals that are immobile and at immediate risk of injury can be moved, if necessary, to a safe location nearby that provides appropriate cover. The mother will likely find the relocated baby by smell or hearing and continue to provide care, provided that people and pets stay away.If a well-meaning person separates a baby mammal from its mother, it may result in euthanizing the animal unless a zoo or shelter can take it. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer further complicates the issue, as a possessed fawn is suspect because Game and Fish cannot verify that the animal is not from a state where the disease occurs. CWD, similar to Mad Cow Disease, is a fatal neurological condition. There have been no cases in Arizona, but there have been in nearby states. for more tips and a list of licensed wildlife rehabilitators in Arizona.

Arizona Citizens Defense League Update: In 2010 when the Arizona Legislature was debating the AzCDL-requested "Constitutional Carry" law, which removed the requirement to obtain government permission to discreetly carry your firearm, those that want to disarm you were predicting shootouts over fender benders and the streets running red with blood. Our friends at the NRA recently published a review of the impact of Constitutional Carry laws in Alaska, Arizona and Wyoming based on the FBI's Crime in the United States reports.  FBI statistics shows that after enacting Constitutional Carry murders involving firearms in these states declined. Arizona started seeing a reduction in firearms related murders around the time AzCDL began pushing for CCW reforms.  After Constitutional Carry was passed in 2010 the decline continued.  While correlation does not always equal causation, it could be surmised that AzCDL's legislative successes have had a major impact on the reduction of crime in Arizona. Those that want to disarm you will not let these facts get in the way of their agenda.  They are coming for you and your guns.  Their short term goal is to enact gun owner registration by criminalizing the private transfer of property unless you submit to a background check.  Their long term goal is to confiscate your firearms.  We can't let that happen in Arizona.  You can help by joining AzCDL and renewing your membership timely.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering two unique opportunities to view one of Arizona’s most iconic arid land animals, the desert bighorn sheep, in an intimate, small-group setting July 1 and 2 on Canyon Lake. Participants ages 10 and older will board department work boats to explore the canyons and bluffs of this scenic lake in search of these spectacular animals. Biologists aboard each of the boats will share and interpret bighorn conservation, behavior and biology during the trip. Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz Told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto That The Comey Testimony “Puts An End To Any Claim That President Trump Obstructed Justice.” Alan Dershowitz: “So I think this puts an end to any claim that President Trump obstructed justice. You can’t obstruct justice by simply exercising your power under the Constitution. You can’t be obstructing justice by firing Comey. You have the right to fire Comey and you can’t be obstructing justice even if you told the director of the FBI to stop the investigation. Of course, he didn’t do that.” (Fox News’ “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” 6/8/17)  Click To Watch

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) Said “There’s Nothing There” And “People Around Here Just Love To Make Something Out Of Nothing And That’s Basically What You Have Here.” “‘I never did think it was going to amount to much, because first of all there’s nothing there,’ said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), another Trump defender. ‘But people around here just love to make something out of nothing and that’s basically what you have there. Tell me otherwise.’” (Burgess Everett and Seung Min Kim, “Republicans Yawn After Comey Hearing,” Politico, 6/8/17)

Hannity: 'Political Hack' Comey Wants 'Revenge' Against Trump In his opening monologue on 'Hannity' Thursday night, Sean slammed James Comey following his incendiary testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee, saying the former FBI boss is a "political hack" out for revenge against the President.

Activist Stephen Sivigliano: The stupidity of Colonel Custer to split into 3 pieces, an already tiny 7th cavalry, and march right into the faces of thousands of well-armed warriors, was an historic act of brainlessness. Is this just what those morons on the left are about to do, politically?  They think (oxymoron) they can destroy and/or impeach Trump.  After that failure happens, what options do they have left?  Maybe they should consult a psychic, or Chris Matthews, or better yet, a cinder block.  Maybe they'll make a sharp right turn.  Ha ha.  I don't think so.  That bizarre show put on by Comey yesterday may be their last hurrah, unless they can come up with some new moronic story. I think the liberal sky really is falling.

Congressman Andy Biggs: we-must-defend-trump-against-the-left-wing-medias-smears

Congressman Andy Biggs: The House Freedom Caucus took an official position in support of the House of Representatives remaining in session through the August recess. Biggs voted in favor of this position: “Since the start of the 115th Congress in January, the House of Representatives has been very productive. We have passed legislation that rolls back job-killing regulations, makes positive reforms to our Veterans Administration, and protects life and children. In the coming months, we will consider bills to better secure our border, enforce our immigration laws, and repeal Dodd-Frank. Aside from working towards priorities like a full repeal of Obamacare, passage of pro-growth tax reform, and building a border wall, Congress still has a long list of important items that must be completed prior to September 30.  This includes reviewing the federal debt limit, passing a federal budget, providing funding for the next fiscal year, reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration and more. Failure to complete these items could have detrimental consequences and will likely lead to Congress once again irresponsibly kicking the can down the road. I am not under the illusion that any of these things will be easy to accomplish, but I fully intend to work in good faith in Congress to remain true to my constituents in Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District. I know they will not, and rightfully should not, settle for half-hearted measures, nor a job left undone. With a unified Republican government, Congress can no longer put off following through on the priorities we promised to the American people. To help maintain our pace and deliberations, I strongly support the House Freedom Caucus’ call for the House to suspend the August recess so that Members of Congress can remain focused on enacting the policies we have discussed for the last several years. We cannot afford to lose any of our momentum as we do the peoples’ business in Washington, D.C.”
