6-30-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

LD22PC Tom Platt: I would like to ask all of Arizona’s Republican US congressmen and women through the Republican Briefs if they plan to vote yes on any federal healthcare plan, where in the constitution does it give the Federal Government authority to be involved with healthcare…..except for repealing the entire Obamacare law?  Can they or a representative from their office, through the Republican Briefs, explain to their constitutes where the authority originates in the constitution?

PC Lolly Hathhorn: “Since THE BEAT GOES ON AND ON……maybe someone on the AZGOP Committee can take the bull by the horns and send out an e-mail to ALL State Committeemen and ALL County Chairmen and call them to ACTION!  It just seems that the majority of the members of the State Committee are not as dedicated as they should be.  When you see something wrong, do something about it.  Unification is needed now more than ever since AZGOP seems to be in left field.  How can one person (Lines) have so much power?  Did ‘We The People’ not elect him?  I say that ‘We the People’ should say what happens next.  This MISTAKE needs to be taken care of once and for all and have someone who is a dedicated Republican who is interested in ‘We The People’ and not Me, Myself and I.  I have now added another 2 cents worth. Just saying.

Tim Horn, LD23 1st Vice Chair: AZGOP: A Sad Situation (Part One) - It IS sad, really, to think about what has been going on in the headquarters of our party since the state mandatory meeting and elections. Multiple Party faithful have asked me about this subject and particularly about the first meeting with AZGOP after the election of the new Chairman. As a GOP activist, State Committeeman, PC Captain, Alt. Delegate to the National Convention, Donor, 1st Vice Chair of LD23, Campaign Assistant to opposing candidate for AZGOP Chair Jim O’Connor, and because I am one of the few actually present for several  negative AZGOP actions,  I probably have an obligation to “weigh in”. In several parts I will relate what happened on Election Day, and how the NON Establishment (NE) has been treated since. You should know facts rather than rumors. Day of State Meeting/Election, 1/28/17:  This is an important day when State Committeemen choose Party leadership. The “Election Rules” established that any candidate could access an election’s documentation. The day primarily featured the elections of AZGOP Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman. The NE candidates Gabby Mercer and Bob Lettieri respectively won. For Chairman, Jim O’Connor lost by 34 votes. I went to the back of the platform to a former AZGOP staffer and the day’s Parliamentarian to tell them that we wanted to review the supporting election documents. I specifically stated “We are NOT alleging fraud, but since the vote was so close, we need to make sure for our many supporters that there was no mistake.” I reiterated that to the Yellow Sheet reporter in attendance. The Parliamentarian instructed to make that statement to the executive meeting which was to follow. Mercer and Lettieri made that request at that follow-on meeting. Editor’s Note: See the rest of Horn’s statement at AZGOP: A Sad Situation

Former AZ PC Wayne Blair: I have come to the opinion that we have very few real Conservatives in any political office - Fed., State, & Local. The Progressive way is how many (most all) are raised. Take Global Warming as an example, most people believe that mankind is the major cause and forget about the natural disasters like volcano which cause more damage to our atmosphere than all of mankind. What is taught to our children will become the law of the land. Look at healthcare, children are not kicked out of the nest until 26 years of age. But we do not look at the birds/animals of the world that once they are taught to fly/stand on their own then the nest is not theirs any longer. Now we have the GOP believing that they have to provide HealthCare to all Americans. What about standing on our own two feet? So if the GOP believe they need to provide for us Americans, then they are no different than the DEM/ Progressives. The only difference at present is the DEMs are more RADICAL. Leave it to your own thought as to who are the Progressive and Conservative in Congress. I would say it would be real hard to name 100 Conservative Congressman/Senators in DC. Trump has a very big job in getting the Swamp Drained. Come 2018, The Trump supports have a big job to help him Drain that Swamp.

Arizona’s Firearms Expert Alan Korwin: In a “more guns” bill that alarmed even pro-gun-rights activists, representative Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) has proposed arming federal legislators to the exclusion of regular citizens. Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates, District 3: As a Deer Valley High School graduate, I’m pleased to announce the Deer Valley Unified School District was the recipient of $120,000 in Federal Diesel Emission Reduction Act grant funding which it will use to cover 25% of the cost to purchase three new cleaner burning diesel school buses.  Not only will the new busses reduce emissions by 50%, it will also increase gas mileage, saving the District over 30,000 gallons of fuel per year, reducing operating costs to the District and helping to improve air quality.

RNC Chr Ronna McDaniel: "You have to look at the evolution of this. Obamacare has failed on every level. You couldn't keep your doctor, you couldn't keep your plan. All these things were promised that you could keep; premiums have gone up. Now you have several states that will have just one insurer. When you have on insurer in a state, guess what they do: they jack up your premiums. We will have to find a consensus, but there are things Republicans agree on universally. We want to make the patient-doctor relationship stronger again; we want to restore that. We want to put more flexibility in the states so they can deal with their uninsured and make it a better plan. We want to get those premiums down. So we have to craft that, but right now the choice is failing Obamacare or finding a solution. Republicans are the only ones sitting at the table trying to find a solution to help the American people. It is shameful that the Democrats are nowhere to be found when they created this mess to begin with."

Congressman Trent Franks: The House Armed Services Committee has approved the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) after 14 hours of debate and amendments. The NDAA authorizes $696.5 billion in defense spending for 2018, a 10% increase over the proposed Obama budget. Franks successfully amended the NDAA to take steps to implement a Space-Based Ballistic Missile Intercept Layer in order to protect America from nuclear attack. Franks said: “This year’s defense budget helps revitalize the military that Obama let atrophy by taking strides to provide our troops with the best training and equipment available. We were able to provide the resources our troops need to ensure their success in keeping the American homeland safe. More than that, this year’s defense budget bolsters our efforts to create a robust missile defense system. We took the single biggest step since Reagan in preventing a nuclear attack by passing the Development of a Space-Based Ballistic Missile Defense Layer Amendment with bipartisan support. As the world becomes more dangerous and volatile, we need to be able to protect the American homeland from world actors bent on violence and destruction. By taking our presence into space, we will have the ultimate high ground to defend our home.”

Congressman Trent Franks: The House has passed two bills – the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law – that are designed to create safe cities and protect American citizens from violence. The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act begins to address the problem of “sanctuary cities,” or cities that choose to not comply with federal immigration laws. Kate’s Law increases penalties for illegal aliens who re-enter the United States or are repeat offenders, and it creates an office to aid victims of immigration crime. Franks’ on the passage of the immigration bills: “Public safety should be an easy priority for Americans to rally around – today’s legislative victories move the ball forward. Lax enforcement of our immigration laws has failed the American people – partisan negligence has been responsible for the death of multiple innocent citizens. Those victims, Kate Steinle, Sarah Root, Grant Ronnebeck, as well as too many others, are especially tragic seeing as their deaths were preventable. Let us not forget their fates and make sure we are doing all we can to keep American citizens safe.”

Congressman Andy Biggs: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003) and Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004). Congressman Andy Biggs co-authored The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, which included his bill, Grant’s Law. Congressman Biggs said: “Everybody in America agrees that someone who is criminally violent should not be released on the streets of America. Yet for years, the policies of the Obama Administration have allowed exactly the opposite to happen, leading to countless innocent Americans being put in harm’s way.  One of them, my constituent, Grant Ronnebeck, was murdered in 2015 by an illegal immigrant who had a long criminal record and had been released from federal custody while awaiting deportation proceedings. We cannot allow tragedies like this one to continue to happen, and I am pleased that Congress has taken action to bring these lax policies to an end. I would be remiss if I did not thank my predecessor, Matt Salmon, whose initial work on “Grant’s Law” in the House helped to make today possible. I also wish to mention Steve Ronnebeck, father of Grant, whose dedication to the cause has energized countless lawmakers and activists around the country to protect innocent Americans. I am grateful for the leadership and commitment of Chairman Bob Goodlatte to ensure that these important bills received consideration and passed the House of Representatives. I hope these bills receive a swift vote in the Senate and are quickly signed into law by President Trump.”

US Senator John McCain on a Russian court’s conviction of five people for the murder of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov: “Whatever the guilt or innocence of the men convicted in Moscow, the reality is that the criminal who is truly responsible for the murder of Boris Nemtsov remains at large and ensconced in the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin may not have ordered Boris’s assassination. But what is so frightening about Putin’s Russia is that he didn’t need to. My friend Boris was killed because of the culture of impunity that Vladimir Putin has created in Russia, where individuals who dare to speak the truth about Putin’s tyranny and corruption are routinely persecuted, attacked, and often killed, but those responsible are never held accountable. Vladimir Putin and his thugs may have succeeded in taking Boris’s life, but they did not silence him. His memory, and the cause for which he gave his life, lives on in the hearts and minds of true Russian patriots, tens of thousands of whom have been taking to the streets in recent months to fight for truth and liberty for the Russian people. Inspired by Boris’s example, I know that someday they will succeed.”
