7-6-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

LD18 PC Dan Schultz to District Chairmen of Maricopa County: Please forward this message to the precinct committeemen who reside in your respective legislative district.  Closing arguments in the unprecedented federal criminal contempt trial of fellow Republican former Sheriff Joe Arpaio begin this morning before the Honorable Judge Susan Bolton in Courtroom 502, Fifth Floor of the US District Court, 401 W Washington St. Phoenix 85003.  Please, if you can attend, arrive no later than 8:30 am to the doors of the court house as you will need to go through security.  The court is scheduled to come to order at 9 am. Upon entering the courtroom, sit behind Sheriff Joe.  There is no parking in the court house building.  There are some 4 hour parking meters on the streets immediately north of the court house and there are several parking garages nearby, including one just to the east of the court house building.  This is an historic proceeding, as the federal government is putting on trial the county people’s elected chief law enforcement officer.  I plan on arriving at the courthouse at 8 am with two of my teenage sons, as this will be a real-world Civics lesson.

AZGOP Sec Gabby Saucedo Mercer to AZGOP Exec Dir Matthew Kenney – Open Letter: I am disappointed to find that you seriously misquoted me when speaking at the Executive Committee meeting about our conversation, which was on Friday, June 9th, not the Tuesday before the meeting. You (reportedly) stated at the Exec meeting that I never mentioned wanting the records. I remember quite well what I said to you. I told you how frustrated I am, not having access to the records all the secretaries before me have always had. I informed you that a few groups of State Committeemen have come to me to ask if they can count on me to send out a Call Letter to the body, if they bring one to me. They are actually concerned that I will be unable to do my job! That Friday, I told you how I answered that question, which was “Absolutely! That’s my job!” I then asked you, “But how can I do my job, when I don’t even have the lists of the State Committeemen and PCs mailing addresses and emails?”

All you would say was “You’d have to speak to the counsel about that.” Speak to the counsel!!? What has he got to do with my tasks, according to the bylaws? But your only answer was “Speak to the counsel.” I must ask you if that reply was meant as a message to me that the AZGOP has no intention of allowing me to mail out an official call to a special meeting. That would go totally against what the bylaws require! And it would go against my own professional standards as well!

My reply to you was that I would not speak to any attorney. There is no reason for me to do so, on this subject, because the bylaws are clear in describing my duties, when the state committeemen bring a Call Letter to me. It is my duty to mail it to the membership. I am now seriously concerned about what will happen if a Call letter really is brought to me. Does the chairman intend to interfere with me doing my job of mailing an official call letter? Is the AZGOP leadership going to refuse to give me the mailing addresses and postage, so I can fulfill my duty to mail the Call Letter? According to the bylaws, if the state committeemen deliver a Call Letter to the secretary, that letter becomes the official business of the party. If the AZGOP refuses to mail that letter, I believe that will be an intentional breach of the bylaws!

Matthew, I must insist that you retract the misquoted statement made at the Flagstaff executive meeting, regarding what I said to you on Friday June 9th. I am personally tired of the way you and Lines and other establishment Republicans are calling for unity but keep attacking Republicans that dare to speak up or challenge the lack of transparency and the smoke and mirrors. Editor’s Note: See Mercer’s complete letter at Mercer's Open Letter To AZGOP in which Mercer also questions the use of pseudo names, the hiring of Kenney as the Exec Director, and big-money donors influence on the AZGOP. Briefs was unable to reach Kenney for comment at post time. - ft

Former Arizona Activist Phil Mason: I just had a great day.  I went through the process and got my Colorado Driver's License, took a mini-physical and my blood pressure is DOWN since moving here and is now in the good range, and to top it off, I was able to congratulate Tom Horne for finally getting justice.  Unfortunately for all of us, the evil ones took him out of office with their false charges.  The Kyl/Montgomery/Brnovich troika conspired to once again harm Arizonans.  The best two Attorneys General in my lifetime were Bob Corbin and Tom Horne.  I wish them both the blessings of Almighty God in the rest of their lives.  Something for all of us to remember: the only way justice was served in this case was the strength of the Honorable Tom Horne to resist the plea bargain and walk through the valley.  Tough times do not last - tough people do.  Kudos to a tough person.  Editor’s Note: Mason recently moved to Colorado.

Readers are hoping officials “throw the book” at whoever is flying drones in smoky wildfire areas where pilot visibility isn’t the best as they try to help hot shots on the ground. Twice now firefighting aircraft have been grounded due to the stupidity and inconsideration of some twit on the ground playing with a drone in the Goodwin wildfire area near Prescott. – ft

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ely: When the original AZGOP bylaws were written in 1959, it appears that the party was so splintered that all power was given to the chair. Since then, who cared?  The bylaws have been approved 15 times by the state committee since then (why?). The last time was 6 years ago.  And what was done or changed?   Given that as a continuum, why even create a bylaws review and update committee?  But, bylaws are dynamic and conditions can change dictating a change to the bylaws.  Our bylaws didn’t change much with time and that’s why there is so much ignoring the bylaws and violations, poor leadership!  It seems a review and update of the bylaws is in order. It’s time to focus on the here and now.  But, the current effort is still in the hands of the state chair.  Does anyone expect him to give up any power?  The basic reason for all this carrying on - just look at what anyone has to go through to make an amendment.  Who want to go through all that??  And some changes to the AZ GOP bylaws may require changes to the ARS.   Who will see to that??   Will the state chair agree to any changes,  or cancel or change the committee, or will the updated bylaws be in agreement with the ARS and ratified by the state committeemen??  What do the County Chairmen and AzRA care?  (Only  the shadow knows!) And now look at what we see in the MCRC briefs:  “The AZGOP ByLaw Committee is soliciting proposed changes from Precinct Committee, according to the LD20 chairman Colleen Lombard’s newsletter. She reports protocols were discussed at the June 17 Bylaw Committee meeting in Flagstaff and that all proposed bylaw amendments will be considered. PCs can submit proposed changes for Articles I, 11, and III by July 17 - for consideration at the July 29 Bylaw Committee meeting. LD20 PCs should submit their completed amendment form to Lombard at or Bylaw Chairman Kathie Petsas at

Activist James Albert: Ms Vera Anderson your story is so sad and our politicians don't want to do anything about it. 7-4-2017 Briefs We all pay high insurance rates because of people driving on suspend license and driving without insurance. It makes no scene for an officer to write a subject a citation for driving without insurance and then allow them to drive away. The policy should be as follows!

1. Issue the citation!

2. Impound the vehicles in a city or county impound lot .

3. The owner can claim the vehicle when they can prove they have insurance on the vehicle that can not be cancelled for six months.

4. Owner must pay the tow fee and storage fee!

5. If the vehicle is not claimed within 90 days city or county should sell the vehicle at public auction.

Do you think and of our Republican in the house or senate will sponsor such a bill?

Jenny Beth Martin - Co-founder Tea Party Patriots: They’ve been promising this to you and me for seven years...“We will repeal Obamacare.  We will repeal Obamacare.  We will repeal Obamacare.” Over and over, year after year, campaign after campaign, Republicans running for the U.S. Senate took every opportunity to bash Obama’s socialist health care disaster and promised to get rid of it the second we gave them power. Well we held up our end, didn’t we? Republicans are in charge of Congress and President Trump has promised to sign an Obamacare repeal bill into law. And yet, I keep hearing how Mitch McConnell and other members of the Republican Senate Leadership are trying to just tinker around the edges of this big government disaster. That is unacceptable. Obamacare is a disaster and we want it gone.  All of it.  Please help Tea Party Patriots make it clear to the politicians in the Senate: do NOT try and sell us a watered-down “Obamacare-lite” bill because we aren’t going to buy it.  Just repeal Obamacare like you promised! The health insurance lobbyists and other “swamp creatures” have their hooks in plenty of senators, but you and I have shown in the past that a united, mobilized Tea Party movement is unstoppable.  You can count on us to fight tooth and nail to make sure Obamacare is history and your health insurance premiums go down. We are working with conservative senators on amendments that will improve the Obamacare repeal bill, but they need our help pushing these through.

Zack Taylor, Chairman National Association of Former Border Patrol It is a fact that the Heroin/Fentanyl Crisis is Nationwide in America.  Death by overdose continues to rise. What is also becoming  crystal clear is that the Main Stream Media and political Washington D.C. resist making the connection to transnational crime. Here the deflection is drawing the attention away from the obvious transnational border element and focusing on the drug manufacturers, pharmacists and physicians. Simple, they can't depose the cartels and transnational criminals and would have a hard time collecting a judgment even if they could. Is this a created crisis?  Who is actually profiting?  It is these two questions that are begging for attention. See

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is in the pressure cooker as Republicans seek to deliver on the healthcare reforms they’ve been promising voters for years. The majority leader has drawn high marks in recent years for his ability to keep the Senate GOP conference unified, but that discipline has been shattered by the divisive healthcare debate. The Republican National Committee (RNC) released a new video entitled "Where's Their Plan?" highlighting leaders of the Democratic Party admitting Obamacare is broken but refusing to offer their own plan. “Everyone agrees Obamacare has been a disaster for the American people. While Republicans work to fix our broken healthcare system, Democrats have dug in their heels in the name of partisanship, instead focused on obstruction and resistance” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. “It’s past time do-nothing Democrats in Washington put aside their political games and work together with Republicans to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all Americans.”
