Cochise County Activist Bruce M Piepho: The May 3, 2017 support our sheriff was successful.  The County Administrator could not support the budget request of the Sheriff to resolve salary and wages out of balance with personnel market conditions with the asked for a $1.3 million special budget request item.  About $400,000+ was found from rearranging the budget moving funds from vehicle purchase or maintenance and a new Comprehensive Compensation Plan implementing in 2017-2018 fiscal year and the next two fiscal years.  I still have not seen details on this Comprehensive Compensation package.  However, the county administration/finance staff met with the Sheriff and his senior staff to better explain what can be done to solve the problem.  Not updating the salary/pay ranges since 2005 created a huge problem that cannot be fully resolved in 3 years let alone ONE year.  Some Sheriff deputies and a few other staff have not received a salary increase in 12 years.  The salary ranges had not been updated since 2005.The problem has been exacerbated by two government actions.
1) The Cochise County Board of Supervisors have not increased the property tax rates since 1993.  That is a good thing for obvious reasons.  It was not so good as the General Fund declined in the last 10 years due to the economy.  A real estate tax increase will be voted on in August.
2) State legislators balancing the budget has manipulated the fund shared with the county causing pressure on the General Fund despite the efforts to reduce employee head count and cuts in county services.  A huge impact also can be traced to the safety personnel pension plan mismanagement with poor investments in a down hill performing economy.  Now the balance of funds in pension reserves must be improved increase payment to the state from the county.
At least the corner has been turned with improvements over the next 3 years. It is more of a political decision to not raise taxes at least in the case of Cochise county supervisors.  No one wants to pay more for anything but especially taxes especially people on fixed incomes not receiving any annual income increases.  During the economic the price of groceries and gasoline has been going up and down but mostly up.  It is virtually impossible and Mal-practice for Cochise County to not have increased real estate taxes since 1993.  We turned a glass half empty into one that is half full.  Perspective pilgrims.

LD30 First Vice Chairman Timothy Schwartz: It seems John McCain could have scheduled surgery 3 days later and done a great service to our country, but he didn't! This vote is critical to the Country, and while important, we're not exactly sure how urgent the surgery was. Between McCain's fake Russian dossier, Lindsay Graham's relentless attack on Don Trump Jr., and Jeff Flake's nasty attacks against POTUS, seems as though draining the swamp will include sending these three far away from Washington D.C. Let's find three good Conservatives who will HELP and not be obstructionists!

The Secret Service on Sunday disputed President Donald Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow, saying the agency did not screen the attendees of a June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian nationals. Secret Service spokesman Mason Brayman said that the younger Trump was not under Secret Service protection at the time of the June 2016 meeting that included Trump's son and two senior campaign officials.
