8-14-17 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor’s Note: Ed O'Keefe of the Washington Post was in Arizona this past week gathering information on Sen Jeff Flake. His article was released yesterday. – ft  O’Keefe writes, “Over two months, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) has dodged bullets on a baseball field, buried his elderly father and watched one of his political mentors, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), battle terminal brain cancer. And that was all before he published a book that doubles down on his criticisms of President Trump, which in less than two weeks since its release, has once again put him at odds with members of his own party. The best-selling book may make Flake the most high-profile Republican casualty of the Trump era. Or, he may prove that embracing one’s core principles can still be appealing to voters…” See full article at Can-Jeff-Flake-Survive-The-Role-Of-Chief-Republican-Antagonist-To-Trump

The Wanderer Asked GOP Activist Rob Haney about the possibility of Republicans losing their majorities in 2018. Haney, retired chairman of the local Maricopa County Republican Party, focused on whether GOP conservatives would lose. “The Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) believe they have demonstrated, with overwhelming success during the last 60 years, the strategy to maintain power over the GOP. Therefore, they do not fear losing RINO seats to conservatives. The strategy is simple,” he said. “The Republican National Committee will back the RINO in the primary against the conservative. They may also ‘encourage’ another Republican to run to split the conservative vote. The RINO usually wins these contests and then the unity strategy card is played,” Haney said. “‘We can’t allow a far-left liberal to win the seat. Conservatives must unite with moderates for a Republican victory.’ “It seems to work every time. McCain has used it repeatedly,” he said. “In those rare instances where a conservative wins the primary, he/she can count on diminished support from the RNC, and socially liberal Republicans have demonstrated they have no qualms about supporting the Democrat. The establishment wins with a RINO or Democrat and maintains their power. And that is why the political spectrum continually moves left.” See full article Singer Campbell Became Contrite . . . Why Can’t The McCains Of The Political World Do Likewise?

Activist James Alberts: Congratulations to the Saddlebooke Republications Club for censuring McCain and Flake! Keep up the good work ! Hope every club and LD in the state will do the same.

PC Clair Van Steenwyk: Some thoughts on the McCain Issue: Wouldn't it be just like Sen. McCain to continue to control AZ Politics for the next few decades?  I believe the Bait & Switch with Grant Woods is Classic McCain. Chose your successor and then election time put your money & GOP Machine behind the person you really want to have your large black book on all the Politicians -- to continue to control them, for as we all know it's not his pleasing personality that they line up in lock step behind.  Here's a real solution for AZ's Gov. Doug Ducey, who we all know would love to have the job but fears appointing himself to it; also fears angering Sen. McCain by not following his direction. I suggest putting all those who've been on the ballot in the last three election cycles; then have the people decide who they want to serve out Sen. McCain's term, which would mean putting JD Hayworth, J. Deakin, W. Cardon, Hackbarth, K. Ward, A. Meluskey and yes even myself. See what the outcome is. I believe this would be the more honest approach to fill out Sen. McCain's term. Some won't like it and but this might be a way to get Jeff DeWit to announce and begin his campaign to run against Sen. Flake - who many would really like to see replaced. Or as usual we can let the GOP Elites make the peoples decision for us. The AZ Senate & House seats belong to the People of the State of AZ and not those who happen to occupy them. For an office holder to think they have some special right to name their successor is a totally unacceptable; after all elections determine who has the office not the office holder ordaining their replacement.

Russell Sias, La Paz County Chairman Open letter to AZGO 2 VC Cindy Coleman, Part 1: You indicated that you wanted to communicate, and I suggested that we do so publicly. Here are some of my concerns again, in case you are willing to reconsider your request for us to communicate privately.

How much did Ex Chairman Graham actually indebt us? Was it the $220,000 Chairman Lines announced on 11 Mar, or was it $250,000 as recorded in the minutes of that meeting, or was it the $235,000, that Chairman Lines announced when he spoke of retiring the bill? Or some other amount that we haven’t yet heard? According to bylaws, “...the executive committee shall approve the annual on all programs....” Did Graham get us into this debt without the exec committee knowing about it? Who has investigated this issue? Is there an outcome yet? Or is there an investigation at all? If the ex-treasurer could be “surprised” (his words as state chair on 11 March) by this debt, then should we assume that the debt was not approved by the exec committee?

Now, about getting this bill paid off, where did this new money come from; who are the donors? In state, or out of state? If this amount came from a very few donors, then the question arises, what strings are attached? What do these presently unknown donors want in return for their investment? Let’s resolve these questions first, and see where we go from there.
