Sen. Jeff Flake joined KVOI’s Wake Up Tucson this past week to explain why he won’t give up on repeal and replace, and why he supports the Graham-Cassidy health care reform proposal scheduled for a vote next week: “Given the choice between Arizona or Washington deciding how federal health care dollars are spent in the state, I’ll take Arizona every day of the week. The Graham-Cassidy plan puts that decision-making power back in the hands of the states, giving them the flexibility needed to innovate and lower premiums that have sky-rocketed in Arizona while maintaining protections to ensure access to quality, affordable care for those who want it, including individuals with preexisting conditions.” Click here to listen to the full interview.

LD11 PC George Grove: President Trump has already pardoned Sheriff Joe.  The Obama DOJ with the assistance of Arizona liberal judges railroaded Sheriff Joe. That was the travesty. Thanks for the follow up.

Activist Diane Ortiz-Parsons: Victory For The Maricopa County Community College District And All Republicans. Maricopa County Community College board members earlier this summer elected Laurin Hendrix (R-Gilbert) President of the governing board. Expect great things under Laurin’s leadership and with the support of Tracy Livingston (R-Peoria), Jean McGrath (R-Sun City) and Johanna Haver (R-Phoenix).

Zack Taylor, NAFBPO Chairman and Border Security Expert: America cannot have Sanctuary Cities and streets free from illegal drugs. The War on Drugs fails because the focus is on the drugs which have nothing to do with the transportation and sale of the illicit product. When the focus shifts to those providing the political protection and actually profiting from the growth, production, transportation and sale of illegal drugs to America then we will get results and yes that includes the growers and processors in foreign countries. Not before. See coast-guard-drug-seizures-in pacific

jonathan gelbart 2017Jonathan Gelbart Has Announced His Candidacy For The Republican Nominations For Arizona Superintendent Of Public Instruction. The former Director of Charter School Development for the nationally top-ranked BASIS Charter Schools, has resigned his position at BASIS to campaign full-time. “I’m running for this office because nothing is more important for Arizona’s long-term success than our public education system,” Gelbart said. “And our incumbent has engaged in dereliction of duty. We need a state schools chief with a fresh perspective, the will to fight for our public schools, and the long-term vision necessary to build the education system of the future. Our workforce is facing an oncoming freight train called automation, so business as usual isn’t going to cut it anymore.” Gelbart has managed the opening or expansion of schools for more than 8,000 children across Arizona, including the number one public high school in America according to U.S. News & World Report. Gelbart’s efforts involved building relationships with communities from Prescott to Tucson and obtaining more than $250 million in bond funds for school construction, renovation, and expansion. To ensure broad, ongoing feedback from education professionals, Gelbart has formed an Educators Advisory Group composed of educators and school leaders with more than 100 years of combined experience in Arizona schools. “I want our Arizona school system to be one of the best in the country, and Jonathan can help us move in that direction,” said Michele Savoia, a member of the group and a psychology teacher in the Deer Valley Unified School District for 28 years. “Arizona has the opportunity to lead the nation in creating a more flexible education system that truly prioritizes creativity, self-motivation, and critical thinking," Gelbart added. "Schools need to treat every child as an individual human being, not a test-taking robot.” Gelbart was born and raised in northwest Phoenix, graduated as salutatorian from Barry Goldwater High School, and earned a master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University. His family roots in Arizona go back nearly 70 years. If elected, Gelbart would be the youngest Superintendent of Public Instruction since statehood.

AAARC Chairman Clyde Bowen: September 22, 1862 President Abraham Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation declaring ALL Slaves in rebel states should be free as of January 1, 1863. Freedom, justice, slavery, human/labor/prostitution trafficking continue to be huge underlying challenges to our American foundation & principles. Some bury their head in the sand, not you. Some stand on Privilege, not you. Some are too busy being busy. NOT you. We appreciate you. You understand the AAARC's covenant with the Republican Party that "walked the walk" for freedom! Lincoln started with a world changing Biblical/American Idea! All men (and women)..., Dr Martin Luther King did a refresh (“I have a dream…"), and the late, great state GOP chair Dody London asked the AAARC to keep it going. 24/7/365 Dody - for you. The Legacy of this week of celebration for our Constitution is a Republican demonstration of love, respect, & even disagreement is for the world to see. They should get to know, the best Americas are Republican Americans! On this day in History, Lincoln made some words fresh, effective Jan 1. EPOD6 Coming February 2018. You are invited. Let's show off!

Secretary of State Michele Reagan: Will the number of Democrats surpass the number of Republicans in Maricopa County? Will Republicans ever exceed Democrats in Pima? Will independents continue their upward trend? Forecasting the state’s number of registered voters and their partisan inclinations is no longer limited to those who have the time to compile each county’s registration makeup and the statistical ability to project trends over the long term. A few months ago, I asked my Election Information Systems team to develop a tool for monitoring the number of Arizona voters in near real-time. What they created was a Voter Stats Dashboard that displays registration data allowing users to see the number of voters in each county and observe trends by party from 2007 up to today. No longer do we have to wait for each quarterly report to better understand voter trends in Arizona. While the number of voters changes each day with new registrations, people moving or routine list maintenance, this innovative dashboard can help us better see what’s happening with our voters each day. Check it out at our dedicated elections information portal at www.Arizona.Vote. P.S. Remember we’ve got local elections coming up on November 7. Early voting begins on October 11, one day after the last day to register.

US Senator John McCain

McCain: “As I have repeatedly stressed, health care reform legislation ought to be the product of regular order in the Senate. Committees of jurisdiction should mark up legislation with input from all committee members, and send their bill to the floor for debate and amendment. That is the only way we might achieve bipartisan consensus on lasting reform, without which a policy that affects one-fifth of our economy and every single American family will be subject to reversal with every change of administration and congressional majority. I would consider supporting legislation similar to that offered by my friends Senators Graham and Cassidy were it the product of extensive hearings, debate and amendment. But that has not been the case. Instead, the specter of September 30th budget reconciliation deadline has hung over this entire process. We should not be content to pass health care legislation on a party-line basis, as Democrats did when they rammed Obamacare through Congress in 2009. If we do so, our success could be as short-lived as theirs when the political winds shift, as they regularly do. The issue is too important, and too many lives are at risk, for us to leave the American people guessing from one election to the next whether and how they will acquire health insurance. A bill of this impact requires a bipartisan approach.

“Senators Alexander and Murray have been negotiating in good faith to fix some of the problems with Obamacare. But I fear that the prospect of one last attempt at a strictly Republican bill has left the impression that their efforts cannot succeed. I hope they will resume their work should this last attempt at a partisan solution fail. I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will effect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it. Without a full CBO score, which won’t be available by the end of the month, we won’t have reliable answers to any of those questions. I take no pleasure in announcing my opposition. Far from it. The bill’s authors are my dear friends, and I think the world of them. I know they are acting consistently with their beliefs and sense of what is best for the country. So am I. I hope that in the months ahead, we can join with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to arrive at a compromise solution that is acceptable to most of us, and serves the interests of Americans as best we can.”

US Senator Jeff Flake

Flake on final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Flake voted in favor of the measure to ensure funding at the Department of Defense (DOD), maintaining support for the military and programs vital to national security: “I’m pleased to vote for a defense bill that gives the armed forces and its warfighters the resources necessary to provide for a strong national defense,” said Flake. Flake secured Senate passage of an amendment that will help defend taxpayers against wasteful spending by requiring the price tags be included in press releases and other documents describing projects funded by the DOD. The amendment stems from questions surrounding the funding-source of study to examine why walking with coffee causes it to spill (it concluded coffee drinkers should just use a lid). Flake criticized the use of taxpayer dollars on the coffee spill study in his 2016 oversight report Twenty Questions: Government Studies That Will Leave You Scratching Your Head, which the author published with an acknowledgement it was “partially supported” by a $172,000 Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) grant. After which, the author issued a contradictory statement to media claiming “not a penny” of the taxpayer-funded grant was spent on study. With only the author’s statements to rely on, the amount of tax dollars spent, if any, for the study remains unclear. The passage of Flake’s amendment as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a significant victory in the effort to increase transparency in DOD spending. If Flake’s measure is signed into law with the NDAA, DOD will finally be required to proactively disclose how much taxpayer-funding has been spent on an individual study or project. “Getting the Pentagon to finally spill the beans on project funding is a buzzworthy victory in the long-brewing effort to put a lid on wasteful spending,” said Flake.  “With the national debt now surpassing $20 trillion, putting this measure on the president’s desk will send a clear signal that Congress is paying attention to how taxpayers’ hard-earned money is being spent.”

McSally and Sens John McCain and Jeff Flake sent letters to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and International Boundary Water Commission (IBWC) calling on the agencies to address the unmitigated raw sewage flowing from Naco, Sonora, Mexico, which has been plaguing the cities of Naco, Arizona and Bisbee, Arizona for years. “This week I toured the sewage spill at the border in Naco and saw first-hand sewage flowing north from Mexico onto my constituents’ private lands and pooling dangerously close to drinking water sources,” said McSally. “It is simply unacceptable, and it must be stopped. I stand with Senator McCain and Senator Flake to call on the EPA and the IBWC to do their jobs and intervene. Sewage is flowing faster than the bureaucracies are responding. They need to speed up their solution.” Sewage overflows and broken collection mains in Mexico have caused untreated wastewater to flow north under the U.S. border fence and into Greenbush Draw in Rep. McSally’s district, near municipal water sources. Sewage has been pooling 300 yards from wells maintained by the Arizona Water Company, which provides drinking water to Bisbee. “This flow of sewage poses a health, safety, and economic risk to Arizona’s vulnerable border towns, and we are greatly concerned about the lack of response of the federal agencies tasked with the oversight of this issue,” wrote Representative McSally and Senators McCain and Flake. “Between the flooded farms of Naco, Arizona and the broken pipeline in Nogales, Arizona, it is clear to us that coordination and communication between federal organizations and the communities they serve must be improved.”  In the respective letters to the EPA and IBWC, McSally, McCain and Flake requested information on what measures each agency plans to take to monitor spills, respond to immediate issues, and mitigate future impact. Click letter to the EPA and letter to the IBWC.

Biggs and 27 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives sent a letter to Department of Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta requesting an indefinite delay of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) final rule on crystalline silica. Congressman Biggs released the following statement: “My colleagues and I were deeply disturbed to hear OSHA is allowing this rule to be implemented this coming Saturday. We have heard from multiple industry groups and businesses in our districts that the rule will have significant negative effects on their ability to stay in business. This rule is yet another of the Obama Administration's blatant efforts to sidestep Congress and overregulate the American economy. In order to restore economic confidence and unleash our country's job creation potential, the Trump Administration should take every opportunity to roll back unworkable, burdensome regulations and restore Congress’s Article I authority. We appreciate that the Administration might reconsider implementation of the rule, but consideration is only the first step. The prosperity of our constituents depend on their expedient action."
