11-22-17 Briefs

greeting with pumpkins happy thanksgiving clipart

Editor’s Note: Have a wonderful holiday weekend and don’t forget to give thanks for our military personnel all over the world. Briefs will not be posting over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. However, we will be checking for incoming announcements and messages. - ft

The Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade is the largest Thanksgiving Day Parade west of the Mississippi.  It kicks off at the corner of El Lago and Saguaro Blvds at 9 a.m. with VFW Post 7507 Parading the Colors.  Other VFW members ride in Thunderbird convertibles provided by the Arizona Classic Thunderbird Club. The Fountain Hills Republican Club entry will be the 34th unit in the parade.  Last year the FHRC entry was awarded the Best Motorized Entry Award.  The public is invited to view the Parade which goes north on Saguaro Blvd then west on Palisades Blvd then south on La Montana.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has added large “Wrong Way” signs on Interstate 17 bridges and other structures between the Interstate 10 “Stack” interchange and Loop 101, facing in the direction of potential wrong-way drivers. That’s the same 15-mile stretch where ADOT is installing a first-in-the-nation wrong-way detection and warning prototype that uses thermal cameras. Placing these “Wrong Way” signs, each measuring 8 feet by 5 feet, is another way ADOT is testing countermeasures to get the attention of wrong-way drivers on I-17. Twenty-six of the signs, 13 in each direction, have been installed to face the wrong direction of travel along I-17. They are mounted above the left lanes of the freeway because research has shown that wrong-way drivers, most of whom are impaired, likely will be traveling in those lanes. Measures already in use to get the attention of wrong-way drivers include larger, lowered “Wrong Way” signs at many freeway off-ramps in the Phoenix area as well as interchanges on other state highways. Crews also have added large white arrows with red reflectors on the travel lanes of dozens of exit ramps to point out the correct direction of travel. ADOT’s pilot I-17 wrong-way vehicle alert system in Phoenix is scheduled to be fully operational early next year. Thermal cameras will detect wrong-way vehicles on I-17 off-ramps, alerting ADOT and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, posting warning messages to drivers traveling in the right direction along the freeway and activating an internally illuminated, flashing “Wrong Way” sign on the ramp as a way to get the driver’s attention.

The Arizona Tenth Amendment Center will present the 2017 Bill of Rights Day Celebration, Fri, Dec 15 at the Orange Tree Resort, 10601 N. 56th Street in Scottsdale. The 226th anniversary celebration kicks off with a cocktail hour before the reading of the Bill of Rights, followed by the speaker by Arizona Supreme Court Justice Clint Bolick. Other guest speakers include Joe Wolverton II, Constitutional attorney Michael Gibbs, deputy director of the Arizona Tenth Amendment Center, and a special appearance by Patrick Henry, portrayed by Dr. Lance Hurley. Musical entertainment provided by The Rolling Cajonez. Advance Tickets are required and are $25 for adults, $15 for children 5- 12. Under 5 years are free.  Appetizers and a hot buffet are included, cash bar. Limited seating. Tickets:

Dr. Bob Branch, State Supt of Public Instruction candidate, will speak at the Prescott Republican Assembly at 11 am., Sat., Nov 25 at the VFW, 2375 N 5th St, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.

Saturday afternoon, serenaded by Christmas carols, the National Christmas Tree Association presented the White House Christmas Tree to First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump at the North Portico. This year’s Christmas tree is a 19.5-foot balsam fir selected by White House Chief Usher Timothy Harleth. The tree was grown at Silent Night Evergreens in Endeavor, Wisconsin, and will reside in the Blue Room for the 2017 holiday season. See highlights from the presentation here.

President Trump continued a White House Thanksgiving tradition by pardoning the National Thanksgiving Turkey in a ceremony in the Rose Garden. The two turkeys chosen to come to Washington are fittingly named Drumstick and Wishbone. This year’s ceremony marks the 70th anniversary of the National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation, which began with President Harry Truman in 1947.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona has filed a lawsuit against the Phoenix Police Department over “the agency’s refusal to release public records concerning the large, peaceful protest of President Trump’s rally in August.”

Cancelled for Thanksgiving: Lydia Abril Hosts The Wickenburg “Believers For Trump” prayer meeting every Thursday evening at 6 pm., in the suite adjacent to Lydia’s La Canasta Restaurant, 2027 W Wickenburg Way in Wickenburg

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.

Tom Morrissey, Former AZGOP Chairman: Happy Thanksgiving Frosty and please know that I am so thankful for all you do for us. Day in.  Day out.

Activist Clair Van Steenwyk: The mud being thrown at Judge Moore may very well end his Race 4 the US Senate, however it won't be the 1st or last time this happens to a Candidate. An other issue is for Congress to Investigate is how so many in DC become Millionaires while in Office and are supposedly serving all of US?

Arizona Balladeer Dolan Ellis: There are Eight Wild Horse Crossings on the Bush Highway. It is a very dark and lonely stretch of road out there at night. In spite of the many warning signs cautioning drivers, speeding automobiles frequently collide with these horses. Please Do Not Speed On The Bush Highway At Night. "Give Our Wild Horses A Break"

Activist Stephen Sivigliano: Why do billionaires and politicians live behind impressive walls and have their own armed guards, but we peons aren't supposed to have that right?  Why is it wrong to execute murderers, but it's perfectly alright and even praised and promoted and paid for by we peons to murder innocent children whose only crime is simply existing in utero?  And why do dictators put up walls at their borders to keep their own people in, but the world criticizes us for building a wall to protect our people from invading criminals?

Congressional Candidate #9 Dave Giles: Thanksgiving has traditionally been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. November is the time to be thankful - a time to remember and embrace those who enrich our lives. I'm thankful for a lot of things, but I'm most thankful for you! Warm thoughts and prayers for you during the holidays. On this Thanksgiving, I hope you enjoy the company of friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving
