Linda Butler Of Tonapah: AHWATUKEE residents recently complained to the City about stinky odors in their neighborhood. They say it smells like a mixture of sewer, trash & sulfur (TV#5 12-27-17). An RV Park in DEER VALLEY complained about stench from a waste/compost business nearby.  This business ultimately had their permit denied. The Tolleson Wastewater plant, that had less than 50 complaints in one year of operation, was shut down until their odor problems could be corrected. Tonopah has filed over 300 complaints within the past 3 years with no County action taken against the offending business. They may not be aware that Maricopa County Air Quality Dept (MCAQD) is in the process of changing an Air Quality Rule (Rule 320) that WILL ELIMINATE THE TERM ‘ODOR’ OR ‘GASEOUS ODOR’ FROM BEING A VIOLATION. The County will document your complaint, but won’t be required to enforce or punish the offending business. It will gut any ability for the public to complain about obnoxious or hazardous odors whether it’s from a sewage plant, compost waste business, dairy, or others.By removing these “odor” terms it allows businesses unlimited ability to emit stench, robbing the community of their right to enjoy their homes and property, not to mention the health issues of those dealing with respiratory problems and asthma. Arizona Statutes say regulations may be strengthened, but NOT made less stringent. Notify MCAQD that YOU DO NOT WANT THESE TERMS REMOVED from the current Rule 320.  Contact MCAQD Director or 602.506.6701 . Get involved!  Attend the Board of Health meeting at 3 pm., Jan 22 at  301 W. Jefferson .  Review Rule 320 changes at STOPP is dedicated to holding MCAQD accountable “…to provide clean air to Maricopa County residents and visitors so they can live, work and play in a healthy environment”. Activist Lori Deluca: We are looking for petition signatures concerning the City Of Tempe Border Wall Resolution vote on this Thurs, Jan 18. iPetitions - Online petition - Free petitions They are actively collecting signatures from those in favor of this. This will be brought to the meeting and I will be speaking on this issue. Also, anyone can sign this since they seem to be making this a state and national issue themselves!!! Contact Lori at

Clair Van Steenwyk: In the 1-17-18-briefs Sheriff Mack stated, “Only their crony friends with massive donors allowed to play in their own sandbox.” I'm no crony friend of GOP or special interest donors, lobbyists or career politicians. While running against Flake in 12 and Franks in 14 & 16, I was not invited, nor allowed to speak at several events & LD’s. Change could be made by PC's, not elites and career politicians. I didn't know invitations were sent in stages. I filed and afterwards I contacted the AP in NY, local AP called and got on 5 pm news, and Robo calls, which basically had excluded me from Robos calls promoting party favorites, so voters believe only they’re relevant. The Parties need proven followers promoted - you know who voted for bills like the National Popular Vote, HB 2184 and SB 1469 removing AZ Supt. Authority, giving it to Ducy’s hand-picked BOE, and put PROP 123 on the ballot in a rigged system which didn't deliver teachers promised raises. While my opponents claim to be conservatives, maybe they are moderates as conservatives don't rob Peter to pay Paul and then say they want balanced budgets. DeWit opposed PROP 123 and told them so. Where are the $$$'s coming from supplying my 3 Opponents? I hope this issue is cleared up, however, as long those running have built in fan clubs that don’t really do the research on their votes - this type of behavior it will continue. Most people know Einstein’s definition of insanity; here’s a political twist. Keep voting for career politicians expecting a different result is political insanity, and if you think not, why is AZ still at the bottom of the barrel in education. The Gov. & Legislature have the real power to fix it, but don't want to rock the gravy train of those who profit from the broken model.  You can’t pour gas into a Steam Engine expecting it to start, which is what we’re doing with an Out of Date Ed system top to bottom. President Trump stayed alive because of his $$$'s, and we' re glad he did, but the residual effect of that hasn't been demonstrated in removing Incumbents & career politicians in AZ. For anyone concerned, this puts our Republic at Risk. Contact Van Steenwyk at

LD-15 PC & CD-8 Resident George Moriarty:  I read the Mack campaign press release on his campaign website.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t a way to post comments there.  Someone posted the same press release to Facebook, and it appeared on my timeline.  Here’s how I responded and would have responded on Mack’s website had that been possible: Conveniently omitted from the news release is that Mack doesn't live in CD-8 and previously chased a congressional seat in Texas. I'm a grassroots conservative who lives in CD-8, and I'll never vote for a carpetbagger. Let Mack and his supporters set up a forum for carpetbaggers--there are at least three running for the same seat--and voters who are willing to consider their candidacies can attend. And, don't bother telling me there's no law that requires a candidate to reside in the district. I know that, and it's irrelevant. Finally, the main reason Mack is an author, rather than a career politician, is why he failed to win the elections. Updates:

  1. Of the three carpetbaggers mentioned, one subsequently withdrew.  That’s a great lead for others to follow.
  2. Whining by children is unbecoming and unacceptable; whining by adults—a la the press release—is unforgivable.

Karen Thomas LD22: Our forum Monday night was well run and attended. To have 12 candidates participate would have made it impossible. Each candidate would have been able to answer about three questions in the time we were allowed for the use of the room. If other LDs want to have a forum and invite those they want, they should do so. Sheriff Mack is from Gilbert and is in CD5 and LD12. Although, by law, he is allowed to run in our CD, I feel he should run in CD5 where he is best able to serve those living in his CD and LD. He has a most impressive background and would be a strong contender for the CD5 seat. I think I speak for many in CD8 when I say that we want someone who lives in CD8 to represent us.

Zack Taylor, Chairman, What the political and social situation in Mexico brings to the United States is rarely talked about and when such information is available the reader has to dissect out what is important to understand the illegal drug situation inside the United States.  This is one of those articles when read carefully brings to light why the war on drugs inside America has been woefully ineffective for so long.  Son Of 'El Chapo' Guzman's Former Right-Hand Man Is Reportedly Talking To US Authorities, Could Be Trouble For Sinaloa Cartel Principally, that the cartels in Mexico still have and maintain their illegal drug distribution infrastructure in place inside the United States to bring the drugs from our external borders to the street level dealers in our cities.  Without political protection extended to these distribution networks through Sanctuary City Policies inside the United States and lax interior enforcement of our Immigration Laws the cartels would have a much more difficult task in maintaining these distribution networks.  The driving force fueling the illegal drug business is the pursuit of money and power.  International drug smuggling in this case is organized crime and organized crime cannot exist without political protection on either side of our borders.  DACA appears to have the potential to reinforce and expand this distribution network inside the United States.  Track the uptick in the opioid deaths inside the United States and you will see that beginning in 2009 is where the sharp increase began and continues through 2016 which is as far as the updated graphs I have seen take us.  To think and propose that increased treatment and counseling will solve this problem is deflecting the conversation away from a real solution and provides cover to the illegal drug business.

LD23 Activist Nancy Plencner - Civics was one of my favorite subjects,  is it even taught anymore? The Electoral College - short and sweet: We all need to understand the Electoral College.  This piece was on the Internet and it does a wonderful job of explaining the rationale behind the college.  I have had it explained many times, but never as clearly as this explanation.  I do not care which party you are affiliated with, the logic for the Electoral College has never been explained so clearly.  I never understood how much of the country had no voice, regarding their issues, without the College.   In their infinite wisdom, the United States’ founders created the Electoral College to ensure the STATES were fairly represented. Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the whole of the nation?

The following list of statistics has been making the rounds on the Internet.  It should finally put an end to the argument as to why the Electoral College makes sense.

· There are 3,141 counties in the United States. Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57.

· There are 62 counties in New York State. Trump won 46 of them. Clinton won 16.

· Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

· In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. Clinton won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond

· Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.

· These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.  The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.

· When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

· Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc) DO NOT and SHOULD NOT speak for the rest of our country.

Bob BranchSupt of Public Instruction candidate Dr Robert Branch: Frank Riggs is a California politician with California “bad” ideas! “More recess, less teaching” is Riggs’ “Big Solution” to Arizona’s failed education system! Riggs recently said, “We need more recess and P.E. in our schools… not more testing and seat time!” Really Riggs, more “recess” and “less teaching”?  Arizona is ranked 47th in the nation for quality of education, and over half of our students failed both the AzMERIT English and AzMERIT Math tests. Riggs, over 54% of our graduates cannot even pass the entrance exams to our own universities, and the amount of money that reaches the classroom and teachers’ pay is one of the lowest in America!  Riggs’ “Big” solution, “More recess, less teaching!” What’s next Frank, comfort lamas and safe spaces?”

I am Dr. Bob Branch, candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, and I propose a different solution for Arizona’s failed education system, a solution that includes more education in STEM; more vocational training to include, but not limited to: technology, agriculture and veterinarian assistants; and apprenticeship programs with business and industry that lead to good paying jobs.  My campaign is the only campaign that is addressing the issues of the type of education our children will need in the year 2030, not just 2018. I am the candidate that is proposing school choice with a blend of online, offline, and face-to-face education. My campaign is the only campaign in this race that stands 100% behind President Trump and President Trump's goal to remove the Federal Government from State education. I am the candidate that knows we need more quality education, not less. Contact:
