The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is now accepting electronically filed individual income tax returns for the 2017 tax year.  The deadline for taxpayers to file 2017 taxes is Tuesday, April 17. Officially, it is April 15, but with the date falling on the weekend and with Monday, April 16 being District of Columbia Emancipation Day in Washington D.C., the last day to file tax returns is the 17th of April.

ADOR encourages taxpayers to:

· File early and file electronically to help reduce errors and tax fraud. For the 2016 tax year, about 80 percent of the 3.3 million taxpayers e-filed individual income tax returns, which is faster and more secure.

· Direct deposit refunds.

Other tax filing tips:

· Ensure all the necessary lines and forms are filled out properly. Avoid math errors or miscalculations and don’t forget to sign and date the return.

· Visit www.azdor.gov to see the list of software providers certified to submit electronically filed returns with the Department.

· Arizona also offers fillable forms that are online versions of tax forms designed for taxpayers who prefer to prepare their own returns. Arizona forms and instructions are available to print at www.azdor.gov.

· Find income tax instruction booklets on the Department website, at ADOR offices or at a library.

Free tax filing services:

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program offers free assistance to individuals 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service, to file federal and Arizona State returns. For more information on AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, go to http://www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp_taxaide/.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). The VITA Program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers. For more information on VITA, go to http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-for-You-by-Volunteers.

Some taxpayers may qualify to e-file under the Arizona Free File Alliance, which is a public-private partnership between ADOR and a consortium of tax preparation software companies. The Free File Program is open to Arizona taxpayers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $66,000 or less, are between the ages of 17-50, active duty military or qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Visit www.azdor.gov or the IRS for more information.

Yesterday the Executive Committee of the Republican National Committee (RNC) voted unanimously to confirm Todd Ricketts as the RNC finance chairman. Ricketts, who is a co-owner of the Chicago Cubs, has been a devoted supporter of the Republican Party. “His incredible leadership and proven track record of results will continue to grow support for our Party and ensure we have the resources needed to deliver Republican victories in 2018 and beyond,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. The Republican National Committee will vote to formalize the pick on Friday during the General Session of the RNC’s 2018 Winter Meeting. A bio of Ricketts can be found here.

LD 20 State Committeeman Marianne Ferrari’s Open Letter to Representatives Clark, Clodfelter, Coleman, John, Martinez, Thorpe, Salman and Ugenti-Rita: At our AZGOP Mandatory Meeting, this past Saturday, approximately 550 people were present, either "in person or by proxy"--a small turnout. To Rep. Michelle Ugenti-Rita: Special thanks for being the sponsor of HD 2012. Unfortunately, well over 300 proxies were carried by a small group of state committeemen, many of whom are known to routinely carry huge stacks of proxies to every annual meeting. One LD chairman is reported to carry 120 proxies to every annual state meeting. The implications of such an action, in terms of controlling a large part of the vote, are very concerning.

In fact, unsurprisingly, the candidates who allied with the leadership of the AZGOP won every single office, on Saturday. The outcome was preordained and totally controlled by the proxy holders, period. That kind of one-sided outcome is exactly what HB2012 has been written to prevent, by limiting proxy carrying to no more than 2 proxies per person. In Arizona, we are on record as not taking it kindly to disenfranchise people, via ballot harvesting. That's why the legislature voted to prevent it in our statewide elections, a couple of years ago.

It is time, now—indeed past time—to prevent ballot harvesting or control of election outcomes, via proxies, by passing HD2012. Representatives Clark, Clodfelter, Coleman, John, Martinez, Thorpe, Salman and Ugenti-Rita, it would be unjust, and a travesty of huge proportions to allow this bill to founder on your watch.

Activist Francine L Romesburg: Per usual operating fiasco procedures, Saturday’s so called State meeting was no different.  I feel sorry for new PCs who’ve never attended a State meeting before.  Very Poor representation of what a real PC is and what their responsibilities as a PC is.  Those offended at my calling it ‘communist’ style, tough.  Get over it!  Pay attention to what you hear, see, and are forced to do at these meetings.  The ‘Party’ dictates to all of us what to do, how to do it, and when to do it.  Elitists wearing wolf’s/republican clothing.

First - Huge Cudos to Archie Dicksion, Gabby Mercer, Vera  Anderson, Ren Ramsey, Joe Neglia, Tim Horn, Jim Dutton, and Itasca Small for their honest PC efforts to get real business done even with Elites hardcore RINOS overrules not wanting right items getting accomplished, ie: Got so called ‘required’ signatures from attending PCs to get a resolution heard and voted on.  This group of Patriotic Activists stood strong; won some of the battles winning for We The People PCs.   Due to By-Law & rule fights on inconsistencies from outdated/corrupt verbage Elitist RINOS took up majority of the meeting, clarification on a vote,  3 time vote for a ‘Sgt at Arms’;  how crazy is that especially with Electronic voting.  We all know that can be rigged.  We’ve all seen it done before. Too many speeches. I ran a Candidates table outside, going inside every so often. I talked to many who were disgusted with the whole process.  I’ve been involved in State By-Law, Rules Committees and local LD By-Law, Rules Committees.  I can attest to the waste of time/getting nothing accomplished.  Years ago state By-laws/Rules committees sort of accomplished something.   Grammatical changes, to - too, or to - the, are not productive.  Don’t accomplish anything.

The Meeting process, both County and State need to be revamped including both By-Laws and Rules.  This CAN NEVER happen if we PCs leave it up to the RINOs currently in offices.  See what happened to Conservative office holder Gabby Mercer – she wasn’t allowed to do her job.  Do away with Committees; have ‘open’ meetings, less speeches, let PCs speak, bring up items, hash it out; vote, get it done.  No overly details allowed.  Free PCs to run meetings using Roberts Rule of Order w/Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer.

Maricopa County Republican Chairman Chris Herring: Last night President Trump demonstrated real leadership with his exceptional State of the Union address.  President Trump outlined the many successes that he and the Congress have achieved including comprehensive tax reform which resulted in millions of dollars being infused into the economy, putting America’s interests first, as well as a booming stock market and record low unemployment numbers. In addition to outlining the numerous achievements he and Republicans have accomplished; President Trump also expressed his renewed commitment to keeping additional campaign promises regarding healthcare and immigration. There’s no doubt that President Trump is leading our great nation in the right direction.  According to a CBS poll, 75% of State of the Union viewers approved of his speech, and 65% said they felt proud, and 35% said they feel safer with President Trump.  It’s hard not to be proud of our growing economy and renewed successes with the Global War on Terror, but somehow, Democrats failed to applaud or recognize any of these accomplishments.

Therein lies the problem.  The Democrats are opposed to the President and his agenda, regardless of whether it benefits the American people.  They are putting the interests of non-Americans ahead of our own citizens – even our soldiers and servicemen! The Democrats have made their number one priority retaking Congress and notably, the House of Representatives. We can’t let that happen. We are recruiting, organizing, and equipping a grassroots army that is fighting back. These volunteers are committed to defending all existing seats and taking additional districts in 2018. Please consider donating today and supporting President Trump’s agenda by helping us to provide our members with the tools they need to keep Maricopa County Red.

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. – ft

US Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: Citing the importance of helping voters understand where all Arizona candidates for U.S. Senate stand on key issues, Republican Ward has today proposed a series of debates to be held throughout Arizona leading up to the August 28 primary election. Ward called for a series of monthly debates to be held across the state and hosted by newspapers, television, and radio stations in each market that will cover the full range of issues discussed. "We've seen a lot of distractions and gridlock in Congress lately, so here in our state, we should have public debates that will help focus the attention on the issues Arizona voters are most concerned about," Ward said in proposing the debates. "Taxes, spending, the economy, jobs, debt, immigration, education, security, and America's role in the world are all on Arizonans' minds -- we should examine each of these topics thoroughly. It's important that we respect the voters by moving the debate beyond the soundbites and inevitable television ads that dominate far too much of today's political campaigns," said Ward. "Issue-focused debates that provide voters the opportunity to ask questions, get in-depth answers on the issues of the day, and go beyond the everyday media filter to learn more about each of the candidates on stage will benefit everyone."
Proposed debate format:

· Series of six debates to be held in March-August (roughly one debate per month)

· Partner with local and national media outlets on each event

· At least one debate held on radio and one on a major social media platform

· Sixty to ninety-minute total length formats

· At least two of the six to focus on specific themes of issues to allow greater depth of discussion

· Minimum threshold of public polling support to qualify for the series

CD3 candidate Sergio Arellano: People are talking about President Donald Trump's State of the Union speech. The air is filled with the noise of pundits. Lost in the noise are the stories of the amazing people in attendance. Ms. Pamela Foster was the guest of Rep. Andy Biggs. Foster is source of inspiration for the AMBER Alert in Indian Country Act. She lost her precious 11-year-old daughter, Ashlynne Mike, in May of 2016. Ashlynne and her nine-year-old brother, Ian, were abducted by a stranger on the Navajo Nation reservation. Ian escaped. After walking miles, he was rescued by a good Samaritan and eventually led authorities to his sister who was found tragically sexually assaulted and murdered. The indomitable spirit of Foster led to the creation of the AMBER Alert in Indian Country Act. According to Biggs, "had Indian Country been included as partners in the AMBER Alert Plans, law enforcement could have rescued Ashlynne in time, and she might still be alive today."

Southern Arizona is comprised of miles of rural and reservation land, yet we have heard little from Congressman Raul Grijalva on the lack of accessibility to technology and services. That is why I am running to replace him. Grijalva has neglected the needs of the people of CD3. I grew up in CD3. I know the people of CD3, and I share their hopes for a bright future. The people of CD3 deserve to be heard, and I want to be their voice. To be that voice, I must listen first. I intend to spend my time in this race listening to the people rather than have them listen to me.

● People have grown tired of the same old rhetoric.

● They want solutions not insults.

● They want Washington to work for them or get out of their way.  We are running a race that honors the people of CD3.

● A race that reflects their values and embodies their dreams. As someone who has actually fought in the trenches, I refuse to fight in the mud.

● I will not focuses on the current representative and his shortcomings and failures .

I am a:

● Decorated Army Combat Veteran

● Continental School District School Board Member

● Advocate For Veterans

● Political Activist

With your help and support, we are unstoppable and we will be heard.

US Senator Dr. Kelli Ward: I'm not interested in being “just another senator” in Washington, D.C. My mission is to transform a broken institution by bringing common sense and a hands-on philosophy to the U.S. Senate. Frankly, I'm fed up with career politicians who lack the courage to fight, and who sit on the sidelines while we run trillion-dollar deficits. Beginning on my first day in office, I will be a champion for “America First” policies that reignite the American economy, eliminate job-killing regulations and improve the life and liberty of every American.

ELECTED OFFICIAL COMMENTS

Congressman Andy Biggs’ on President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address

Congressman Biggs' on Missing FBI Text Messages

Phoenix Councilman Sal DiCiccio: We have launched the Responsible Budgets Initiative for the City of Phoenix, and the response has been amazing! Our supporters are out now gathering signatures and going door-to-door throughout Phoenix to educate people about this critical effort, and they are reporting back to me that the reception – no matter where they are and who they are talking to – has been tremendously positive. That’s because Responsible Budgets is simple, yet powerful.

· Requires the City to use real world accounting, accurate life expectancy, and historical rates of return when calculating our pension debt.  Right now, not one single person at City Hall even knows how much we owe.

· Caps new spending growth to population plus inflation.

·  Exempts police and fire.

· Pays down our $4 billion pension debt with excess funds.

·  Ends pensions for politicians.

With almost 3,000 signatures gathered in just a few days, citizens are sending a clear message to City Hall – it’s time to stop kicking the can down the road, fix this mess, and make sure we keep the promises we’ve made. 602-262-7491
