3-19-18 Briefs

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing

Russell Sias -LaPaz co chrRussell Sias, La Paz County Chair: Understanding that HB 2012 has now died at the hands of the Rules committee, consideration to change the entire committee membership of the Rules committee should be undertaken, for the simple reason that they, through lack of due diligence to represent the people of our state, allowed the chair of the committee to let HB 2012 die within their committee. I will assume that we all know that HB 2012 was the bill to limit proxies to two (2) for political parties.

While the chair of a legislative committee certainly has the power to hold a bill in committee, it is inappropriate to do so when the chairman ignores approximately 800 contacts/requests to move HB 2012 out of committee for a floor vote. This action clearly demonstrates that the chairman is not a representative of the people, but instead, represents those that would exercise improper control over state party politics through the process of proxy voting.

The chairman’s emailed reasons given for holding HB 2012 were invalid and contradictory in explaining the chair’s actions of holding HB 2012 in the Rules committee. It was argued that the state should not get involved in private organizations, yet we already have several restrictive codes existing within ARS 16 that already do exactly that, therefore the reasons given were intentionally deceptive, misleading, and inexcusable.

Further, members of the committee DID NOT express adequate concern and support for the bill. They stood silent and let the chairman sit on the bill, therefore should be removed from the position they hold as representatives of the people. They failed to represent their constituents. All committee members should be considered complicit and share the responsibility for their failure to represent the citizens of the state for allowing HB 2012 to die in committee. Whereas: Members of the Rules Committee are as follows:

· Thomas R. Shope Chairman

· Paul Boyer Vice-Chairman

· John M. Allen Member

· Wenona Benally Member

· Diego Espinoza Member

· Eddie Farnsworth Member

· David Livingston Member

· Rebecca Rios Member

· Kelly Townsend Member

Therefore: Be it resolved by the voters that when time comes to re-elect the above legislators, whom have clearly failed to represent the people of the State of Arizona, that they all be replaced with true representatives to represent the people of the State of Arizona.

After Kids Get Used To Push Gun Control In Walkouts, Tucker Exposes Them For The Pawns They Are During Tucker Carlson’s opening statements on Wednesday, he pointed out the fact that no one, especially in the liberal media, is acknowledging about the student walkouts that happened on Wednesday over the Parkland, Florida shooting and to advocate for more gun control legislation. Carlson reveals all of the advocacy groups and Democrat politicians who helped and in some cases funded students to be able to walk out of their classes on Sunday and travel to state capitols to protest gun violence. Carlson points out how disgusting it is the Democratic lobby’s and advocacy groups like the...

KILLSHOT: Democrats Gang Up To Fight Hillary Clinton After She Shows How Sick She Is While President Trump has learned to move on from talking about the 2016 election, his former opponent, Hillary Clinton cannot say the same thing. Now even Democrats are starting to get annoyed with her antics and want her to just shut up about it, reports Zero Hedge. Zero Hedge reported that Clinton's own former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle slammed Hillary over her bizarre recent comments. The Hill reported that some of Clinton's former aides, surrogates and ideological peers are echoing and saying the former Secretary of State should maybe tone down her constant mentions of the 2016 election, some are even angry about the fact and think it's...

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Sol DiCiccio 2Sol DiCiccio, City Of Phoenix Councilman: Our streets are a crumbling mess. Our water and sewer lines are cracking. And our City, frankly, is starting to look run down. Issues with homelessness, blight, and a general lack of basic maintenance are starting to take their toll. Worse, our police and fire response times are growing ever longer, endangering lives. Yet, despite the obvious needs in basic service, Phoenix has continued to push ahead with plans to spend more than $30 billion on expanding our light rail lines, a “luxury” service that has been increasingly taken over by our homeless population, to the point that many citizens are afraid to even get on one of our trains. Is this who we are, Phoenix? I say “No!”. That’s why my office and I developed a plan to eliminate, or even just delay, the installation of these news lines, and transfer the money we are spending on them to basic street maintenance. Not only do we need those dollars right now to fix our roads, every mile of light rail track comes with annual operating costs well in excess of $1 million. Every mile we eliminate – or even just delay – is going to save the city tens of millions of dollars in long term costs. Folks, we don’t have a revenue problem – Phoenix is currently collecting more taxes than we ever have before – we have a spending problem, and light rail is an enormous part of that problem. In the next few weeks, I will be presenting a plan that takes the first big steps towards tackling this problem. council.district.6@phoenix.gov  602-262-7491
