3-21-18 Briefs

Gov Doug Ducey 2015 2CALL TO ACTION: Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL): Governor Doug Ducey has revealed his "Safer Arizona Schools" gun control plan.  We posted a copy on our website.  Caution!  You may want to wrap your head with duct tape to prevent it from exploding when you read it.  It looks like a propaganda piece from one of Bloomberg's Astroturf groups.  Odds are they had a big hand in writing it. The good news is that many in the Legislature aren't all that excited about what they see in the Governor's plan either.  The dream of suspending all the rules and ramming this through without anyone noticing has evaporated.  We're now hearing that the Governor's proposal may be broken into a few smaller bills with the hope that at least one will get to his desk.  That tells us we have a shot at ending this altogether. The even better news is that your emails are having an effect.  After receiving over 11,000 of your emails they know we're watching and we have their attention.  We can't let up.  Your legislators need to hear from you that there is NO acceptable "gun control." If you have already sent an email to your legislators, please do it again.  If you have not yet sent an email, what are you waiting for?  If you are willing to fight for your rights, we've done most of the work for you by preparing the email to send to your legislators.  All you need to do is click on the link above, follow instructions and click your mouse button a couple more times. Your legislators need to hear from you, letting them know that you are still paying attention and expecting them to support your rights.  Send your email today! These alerts are a project of the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), an all-volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization.

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing

Marianne Ferrari, LD20 PC and State Committeeman responds to Joe Womack:  Well, Mr. Womack, I beg to differ. 3-20-18 Briefs Joe RomackThe grassroots had no choice but to fight, this January, to prevent a vote on the bylaws changes, as a whole. There were “poison pills” among those changes that would have given leadership unprecedented power to govern unopposed, over the state committee. That is not how our bylaws established the hierarchy in our state party. Once and for all: Our bylaws give the membership of the state committee supreme power in our state party. Yet, somehow, things keep happening that deflect, or outright block, the will of the membership. Proxies seem to be the tool-of-choice for this purpose. Time and again, proxies have decided votes, and elections for leadership positions. Recent Briefs posts have noted how large a percentage of votes were proxy votes, this January. For me, the worst consequence of this situation is that it reaches far beyond the state committee, itself. In my opinion, the RINO domination of our state party is drastically limiting, if not entirely preventing, the influence of the grassroots in primary campaigns determining who runs in the general. If you think I am mistaken in that view, then tell me: Who was responsible for blocking Sheriff Mack from sheriff richard mackparticipation in two important candidate forums, held during the campaign for the CD8 primary? Would the grassroots block Sheriff Mack? Not hardly. Let’s see, who else is around who might do that…? But the dastardly treatment of Sheriff Mack is just one example. In my view, the disproportionate RINO influence on our party is the reason why voters complain so bitterly of having no choice, in general elections, but to vote for the lesser of two evils. (Could this be why so many Republicans are now Independents?) RINO policies are not in synch with America, as founded. It’s as simple as that. I do not recognize RINOs as Republicans. This dominance by RINOs is happening, I believe, all over the country. I’ve been talking to grassroots activists in other states, and we are 9 states for 9. According to active, engaged grassroots in all 9 states, the state party in each is dominated by RINOs. A Breitbart.com headline, this morning, provides another great example of this: GOP-Establishment-And-Grassroots-In-Bitter-Utah-Battle-As-Mitt-Romney-Seeks-State-Party’s US-Senate-Nomination Mr. Womack, I rest my case.

Bob Thorpe LD6LD6 Rep Bob Thorpe: Infringing upon our 2nd Amendment Constitutional rights has never and will never stop people who want to harm others, and gun control laws typically only restrict law abiding citizens. Please read this terrific article concerning the facts surrounding gun ownership and the declining violence within our nation. In the article, you'll read that suicides and illegal gun use make up a huge percentage of gun-related deaths, and that people who have a Concealed Weapons Permit are less likely to commit crimes than even police officers! here-are-8-stubborn-facts-on-gun-violence-in-america/

archie dicksion

Archie Dicksion Responds to Joe Womack: In the 3-20-18-briefs, you mentioned our legislators have a saying that “all matters do not need a law.” You pointed out what occurred at the Joe RomackState Party meeting this past January, in particular castigating Joe Neglia. How many votes are cast at your LD23 meetings by proxy? Is there some reason why those who cast their votes by proxy could not attend the meetings? Was it too far for them to drive? Did they just not care? How many of those state meeting proxy votes were from people who never attend District meetings? Why should someone who never attends District or County or State meetings have as much or more say in the outcome of elections as the people who are active workers? You mentioned that but for the interference of Joe Neglia the state would by now be limited to two (2) proxies. Have you actually read that Bylaw provision limiting the number of proxies to two (2) and compared it to state law? If you have done so, you are probably aware that the propose Bylaw amendment violates state law and is unenforceable in future votes. You should be the fact that State Bylaws Committee Chairman Kathy Petsas appeared at that the Government Committee hearing and spoke against HB2012the Bill.

We need warm bodies in those seats voting, not PC’s and State Committeemen who do not put forth any effort - whether that party is democrat or republican. These are people who are recruited solely to allow someone else to carry their vote to affect the outcome of elections. They serve no other purpose. The Republican Party platform specifically provides that the party believes in the sanctity of the vote and the ballot box; and opposes ballot harvesting. Yet the Arizona Republican Party violates that platform at every meeting it holds that allows the use of proxies. Chairman Tom Shope TJ Shopestates that “in HIS opinion” the legislature should not be involved in micro-managing political parties. He knows that is not the reason he refused to allow HB2012 to come before his Rules Committee for a vote and so does everyone else. Some time ago, the Legislature though they should get involved in internal action of political parties to tell us how we can become elected Precinct Committeemen. They impose the rule that we have to get 10 of our neighbors to sign a petition to allow our name to appear on the ballot to be elected. However, if there are less people who submit their name than their individual precinct is allowed, then there is no need for an election, those people will just be deemed to have been elected. Is that Micro-managing? By the way, who determined how many precinct committeemen any given precinct was entitled to elect? That is set forth in the Arizona Revised Statutes which were enacted by the Legislature. Mr. Womack, Chairman Shope and the Arizona Republican Party are being less than honest with you and the people of Arizona.

tom morrisseyFormer AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey: This is a short article that is well worth reading because it drives home a scary lesson about what is happening to our culture.  It is reminiscent of George Orwell's visionary book "1984". He was highly critical of the communist culture and mindset.  This article is an example of fiction becoming reality. what’s-wrong-with-america

Activist Stephen Sivigliano: Exactly 15 years ago yesterday, I had the distinct privilege of shoveling soggy, heavy snow at lest 3 feet deep at my trailer in "Friendly Village of the Rockies" park in Thornton.  After that unique experience, I felt exhausted but well, relaxing the rest of the day.  Next morning, surprise!  My right arm was almost useless, with all the tendons attached to the elbow, damaged. The full recovery took over 6 months, with the arm no longer able to fully extend or retract.  Two months later, we were  hit by another heavy storm which killed thousands of deciduous trees, and more shoveling was required.  That was the last straw!  I decided to not spend another winter in my beloved Colorado.  By September, I was here in Wickenburg, having abandoned the trailer because  nobody wanted to buy it.  My personal story doesn't end here, but this message does.  Happy shoveling!  colorado blizzard of 2003

cathi herrodCenter of AZ Police CEO Cathi Herrod: Private and charter schools provide valuable educational opportunities for children in our state, and they should be afforded the opportunity to buy or lease vacant property that school districts have placed on the market. The Arizona Senate passed HB 2460 School Sale Equity by a vote of 17-12-1, ensuring that private and charter schools have a chance at buying or leasing vacant school district property. HB 2460 now goes to Gov. Ducey for his consideration.

In 2008, Desert Christian School in Tucson was looking for property on which to build an elementary school. As they searched for property, the Tucson Unified School District closed down a nearby elementary school and sought to sell it. Desert Christian repeatedly approached the District for a year and a half trying to purchase the school for two million dollars. The District would not even discuss the possibility. The school remained closed for another year until the District eventually sold it to a developer for 1.6 million dollars. Because the school district was unwilling to negotiate with Desert Christian, not only did Desert Christian miss out on an ideal school campus, taxpayers lost $400,000. Current law requires school districts to attempt to obtain the highest possible value for vacant property they have chosen to sell or lease. The bill makes clear that school districts cannot prohibit a charter or private school from negotiation to buy or lease the property, and that they cannot withdraw the property solely because a private or charter school is the highest bidder. HB 2460 is a win-win for taxpayers, and for charter and private schools. Contact: Herrod Cathi Herrod at cathi_herrod@azpolicy.org

Dale Gohr of Clarkdale: Passage of any Law does not assure compliance; the only real deterrent is the “Enforcement of the Law” not enacting new Unenforced or Unenforceable Laws. The Laws that are Enforced by agencies and then unjustifiably dismissed by the Justice or Judicial Department are another problem. The Florida School Massacre, is a classic case of corruption, incompetence distortion, deception and manipulation. Why would you want more “Gun Control Laws” when every enforcement arm, every administrative entity and the Mainstream News Media are complicit in the erroneous handling and coverage of this case. Why want “More Laws” when the ones that are on the books were so carelessly cast aside; with a cavalier and deceptive attitude? When are the Progressive/Leftist/Liberals going to wake-up to the fact that more Government is not the answer: In the mid 1800’s this Nation fought a bloody ‘Civil War’ over slavery and the rights of one man (male or female) to “own another human being”. Now the Leftists are “Begging to be put back into Bondage; only now with the Government as the slave-master, under the guise of “Socialism”, which they believe to be freedom “work according to your ability; receive according to your needs. ” I haven’t been able to get any not even one; of them to answer: who will determine your ability? and who will determine your needs? We could look at a litany of cases where the government or governmental agencies have literally caused massive amounts of pain, suffering, corruption and untold terrible expenses; let’s look at two of them:

     1) Florida High School Massacre—Government law enforcement agencies were made aware of the troubled perpetrator and they collectively ignored every aspect of his obvious “desire to kill and destroy”. Then the children being used to promote the agenda of George Soros and his ilk; is “political pandering” of the worst kind.

     2) Florida Footbridge—Government inspectors and inspections is something I’ve never heard mentioned; and if and/or when they run a “Stress Test” and do not stop and/or remove “All Traffic and On Site Non-Participating Personnel”; it is “Incompetence” and as happened in this case “Criminal Neglect”.

The incompetence and manipulation of Governmental entities that are at the core of these atrocities makes me wonder why anyone would want to enhance or increase the power of the government over our lives and finances. It makes no sense whatsoever!

Gosar, Grand Canyon

Reps Paul Gosar, left) and Bruce Westerman look over the beauty of the Grand Canyon as clouds and fog roll in over the scene, causing the cancellation of a plane tour over the canyon by a group of Congressional Western Caucuses members touring Arizona last weekend. They also visited the Resolution Copper Mine in Superior. Gosar has chaired the Western Caucus for several years.(Gosar file photo)

Last weekend, the Senate and Congressional Western Caucuses participated in a trip - coordinated by the Western Caucus Foundation - in which Members of Congress and Congressional staff scheduled Arizona to participate in policy roundtables, briefings with state and local officials and site tours in order to enhance their on-the-ground familiarity with some of the issues they and the Western Caucus work on every day at the level of federal policy. "To me, this is what the Western Caucus is all about," said Chairman Paul Gosar. Paul Gosar 2016"It's so important that we get people out on the ground to see, walk, touch and experience these issues firsthand, so that when we go back to Washington to work on them we have both sides of the coin covered. That's what we all got out of this adventure, and I was proud to show Members and staff from all across the country the best of what Arizona has to offer."
The trip kicked off at Arizona State University with a policy roundtable featuring panels on the topics of America's Mineral Security, Reliable Water, Healthy Forests and Fire Prevention, Western Power, Tribal Priorities, and Arizona Leaders, Arizona Issues. Members of Congress in attendance included Reps. Andy Biggs, Rob Bishop, Paul Gosar, Doug LaMalfa, Dan Newhouse and Bruce Westerman. The following day, Members of Congress and staff departed Phoenix by bus to tour the Resolution Copper Mine in Superior, Arizona. The mine is the largest single investment in Arizona's history and delves 7,000 feet into the earth to mine copper in the area's rich deposit. The project is years in the making and was originally facilitated by a land exchanged pushed in Congress by Chairman Gosar and Senator McCain. The final day of the trip featured a walking tour of the Grand Canyon and a lunch briefing and discussion which included City of Tusayan and Grand Canyon National Park officials.Views of the Canyon were somewhat obstructed upon arrival, as seen in this photo above of Reps Gosar and Westerman. Fog rolled in and a scheduled plane tour of the Canyon had to be cancelled.
