4-30-18 Briefs

Clint Hickman white houseMaricopa County Board of Supervisor Clint Hickman (back, left corner), and his family pose with First Lady Melania and President Donald Trump, during Easter weekend festivities at the White House. Jennifer Hickman, stands to the right of the President. The three Hickman children, (left to right) Trevor, Marcela and Benton, decked out in their Easter finery, stand across the front of the photo.

Supervisor Clint Hickman: As you may already know, there has been a tradition going on for well over 100 years now called the White House Easter Egg Roll. This event held on the White House South Lawn is sponsored and arranged by Our First Lady and her staff. For over 20 years now, our egg industry is involved by donating REAL eggs as well as sponsoring activities on the lawn. I believe that this year over 30,000 individuals obtained tickets via a lottery and families from across the nation are afforded the chance to play on the South Lawn. Because of the American Egg Board’s work with the First Lady’s office, my family was offered tickets to help with the activity booths on the lawn.

Clint 5Now with that bit of background, here is where it became even more interesting for my family. Out of the blue, we were invited to join the First Lady at her Easter Brunch. After security clearance we were guided into the White House, where a military orchestra was playing in the front entry. At most, there might have been 50 parents and kids present, along with military guards, support staff and Secret Service agents. We walked the lower rooms of the White House, including the Library, Blue, Red, Green and State Dining rooms. To eat Eggs Benedict on President George HW Bush’s china was quite an experience in itself.

In walked the members of the First Family, Donald Trump Jr with his wife Vanessa and their 5 kids aged 11 and younger who were balls of energy. Eric Trump with his wife, Tiffany, Kellyanne Conway, Chief of Staff Kelly and assorted other high profile members of our government. For all you read about these people, all of them could not have been more gracious with their time and conversation. Every one of them were incredibly hospitable and you could just feel that they understand that the White House is the People’s House, no matter how much I felt like an interloper. I met an Air Force guard who talked about her job while stationed at Luke Air Force Base. An extremely nice Army guard told my sons all about the Green Room in which he was guarding with a smile. The Secret Service agents that were laser focused on their job but would smile back at my daughter.

clint 4And last but not least, as President Trump arrived with First Lady Melania and their son Barron surrounded by Trumps grandkids, there was a lot of love in that room. I had a memorable conversation with both our President and First Lady and then off they went to greet the crowd as my sons and I went off to work the event. I will never forget the sight of my sons and daughter shaking the hands of the most powerful couple in the world, and I will definitely cherish my time walking in the same footsteps as so many great Americans have walked, cognizant of the fact that so many great Americans have never been afforded the same opportunity.  The Easter Bunny also made an appearance and had his photo taken with Trevor and Benton Hickman.

April 26, 2018 Congressional RecordExtensions Of Remarks E541in Recognition Of Paula Linker by Hon. David Schweikert Of Arizona In The House Of Representatives:  Thursday, April 26, 2018 Mr. Schweikert - Mr. Speaker, I rise today to thank a very special member of my community. For as long as I have been involved in working for Arizona, Paula Linker has been a friend and supporter. Those who know Paula admire her for her courage and determination. She is forthright and dependable. She works every single day to make sure that the causes and people she cares for most have all the support she has to give. And, it is in that spirit that I am so pleased she is being awarded the Lincoln Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maricopa County Republican Committee. The community celebrates Paula, and it is with great enthusiasm that I include these remarks into the RECORD of the U.S. House of Representatives. Editor’s Note: Briefs does not have a photo of Paula Kinker at post time. –ft

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Sheila MuehlinngSheila Muehling Maricopa County GOP Treasurer: Shame on you Frosty for putting this pathetic 4-29-19-briefs post up. Gina certainly deserves a shout out but what about the others. The top awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award that is now an official Congressional Record and all you can say is this!!! Many people are going to see you for what you are.  I am embarrassed for you.  Editor’s Note: Sheila, you embarrass yourself by jumping to conclusions. For your information, I requested a list of Maricopa County PC winners from Chairman Chris Herring prior to the luncheon – with the understanding that I would not post the winners until after the event. Readers sent copies of the program  with the LD PC winners to Briefs - after the luncheon on Saturday. Briefs received a winners list from Herring around noon on Sunday – at which time I insert those top winner names into yesterday’s Briefs posting.

In years past, Briefs received an embargoed  list of winners prior to the event – so a complete winner list could be posted by the following morning.

Early Fri morning; a puzzled fellow reporter contacted Briefs, saying he has been denied press credentials to cover speaker Jim Jordan because the luncheon is a “private event, no press”. .. so much for transparency!

Whose bright idea is this???  Stonewall/shut the media out  – then complain about not getting the coverage you expect!

All of the winners are welcome to send a photo with their awards to repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net so Briefs can give them due recognition. - ft

we harrisActivist Jim Alberts: Wes Harris your 4-28-19-briefs article was outstanding, if only the teachers would take the time to read it! It’s apparent the teachers need to attend a class or two on state and local governments, I seriously believe the teachers have no clue who is responsible for the salary and raises.

timothy Schwartz-Timothy LD30 1 VCLD30 Activist Timothy Schwartz: While I respect the work of Diamond and Silk, I must admit their platform ranks down on my list as there are so many other platforms competing for my time. However, When These Two Women Appeared Before Congress After Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg's Testimony, Their Own Brilliant Testimony Lifted The Roof Off!Spectacular! I wouldn't wanna tangle with these two. Please share this. Watch Diamond & Silk Testify Before Congress And All Hell Breaks Loose

randy MillerLD20 PC Randy Miller: The last 40 to 60 years, we have deteriorated from governing based on law of the constitution to political parties governing based on ideology.  Ideologies grow more extreme as the struggle for power grows more intense. This power struggle results in ignoring basic principles such as freedoms and liberties, which are basic precepts of the American dream; to restricting those freedoms and liberties to protect those ambitious politicians continued rise and hold in power.

We have to face some facts. We have nearly $22 trillion in debt and the US dollar is no longer the global currency (Petro Dollar) thus eliminates the continued tool for funding our debt.   There is a financial crisis that was delayed only to be worse because our banks were not broken up into smaller entities; so now they are leveraged $100’s of trillions in Derivatives you will be on the hook for.   Every penny you put in the bank is no longer yours, it is an asset of the bank and that is what will be used, based on law, to repay their debts.

We have global conflicts approaching our shores for the first time since the revolutionary war, thanks to years of open border policies and an influx of unknowns from Islamic countries around the world wishing us harm.  Our power grid and other infrastructures are decades outdated and vulnerable to cyber-attack, EMP’s and natures attacks, jeopardizing our security and way of life.  We have a two-tiered justice system where the average person, you and I, are not treated the same under law as those in positions of power; tyranny.  We have a Coup going on right now in front of us by the socialists’ globalist left wanting to destroy the threat to their plan by taking down an elected president.

Because of government neglect and corruption, these failures jeopardize our national security and caused discontent.  With outrageous propaganda on both sides, instead of addressing these serious issues, government leaders instill fear with a coincidental rash of mass shootings from people that “slip” through the cracks of government, in an attempt to take your means of defending yourself from government; your weapons.  Also, they attempt to limit your voice in social media and on school campus if you disagree with them.

This is nothing more than an all-out assault on America and what we have stood for since our beginning.  This is government leadership directing fear away from their intent and failures so they can take away any ability to defend against them when their failures come to full realization.  Then it will be too late. This is a global threat - it’s in Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa.  It’s financial, political corruption, religious, and fear among the people, knowing something isn’t right. People must pay attention and get involved to stop the train wreck that is coming.

Run for office, educate yourselves, challenge the positions of the politicians you know are wrong and turn off the TV.  Stand up and be heard.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Paul Gosar 2016On Thursday, Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Paul A. Gosar D.D.S. (AZ-04), Chief Regulatory Reform Officer Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Andy BiggsWestern Caucus Member Tom Emmer (MN-06) and the American Exploration & Mining Association released statements after Members of the Western Caucus led an effort supported by 30 Members of Congress and endorsed by dozens of business representatives, elected officials and resource experts requesting that the final composition of the 'critical minerals' list include aggregates, copper, molybendum, gold, zinc, nickel, lead, silver and certain fertilizer compounds additional to the 35 originally contained in the draft list. Gosar stated, "President Trump and Secretary Zinke have done a great thing by opening up the critical mineral designation process and really listening to the input of experts, Congress, industry and members of the public in order to examine the economic and geopolitical ramifications of certain minerals being placed in or excluded from the 'critical minerals' list. This is a list of those minerals that have sensitive international supply chains but are of extreme importance to our economy and national security. The good news is that for so many of the minerals which may be designated 'critical', we enjoy substantial reserves at home. There is no need for the United States to be import-reliant on adversaries and foes for these valuable materials. Today, we ask that those who are making decisions about 'critical' status make sure that obviously-critical minerals like copper, gold, molybdenum, zinc and others make the final list. Given the incredible domestic need for these minerals, it's no exaggeration to say that the very security and stability of our country depend on the United States prioritizing permitting and development for our vast reserves right here in America."  full press release HERE. The letter HERE.

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Richard W Hawkins, Lake Havasu City: What our legislators and Gov should be doing is reviewing the merits of other taxpayer funded schooling models as well as a review the effectiveness of Federal and AZ mandates.  Our current socialist monopoly is the highest cost form of ‘education’ as well as a proven failure for producing young adults able to sustain a constitutional republic.  Answers are required.  Are the unconstitutional Federal mandates underfunded?  If so, abandon them.  Do the unconstitutional Federal mandates violate our privacy?  If so, abandon them.   Are the Federal and AZ mandates weakening our constitutional republic due to either omission or commission?  If so abandon the Federal mandates and correct the AZ mandates.  Didn’t the Gov and our legislators take an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution?  If so, they should have abandoned all unconstitutional Federal mandates ages ago.  Do the Gov and our legislators even know what public funded education is to be about?  Obviously not…either replace them or educate them.

Jane Schutte 2Jane Schutte: Frosty, I agree with you on Gov. Ducey.  My thought they need to bounce some of these administrators back into the classroom.  That would save money.  They also need to consolidate school districts.  That would save money.  Finally schools need to live within their budget.  As a teacher I support good teachers and our kids; however, teachers keep asking for money and they keep getting money from the taxpayers and apparently none of the money is going to them (teachers).  Why?

4-28-18 Briefs

First Lady Melania Trump has again been the subject of criticism by the left-wing media for her choice in her beautiful outfits while entertaining international guests at the White House this week. Her large white hat was targeted by some fools that don’t recognize good fashion taste when they see it. Like former First Lady Jackie Kennedy, Melinia is a picture of elegance every time she sets foot outside the door. - ft

The Dust Up Between the two battling Republican factions in Navajo County reminds some folks of the Hatfield/McCoys. – ft

Folks up in Yavapai County are still chattering over Secretary of State Michele Reagan clapping her hands for her opponent -  businessman Steve Gaynor, after he pointed out several of her management flaws during a recent candidate  meeting. – ft

Doug Ducey 2015 2Gov Doug Ducey isn’t making brownie points by promising 20% teacher raises when that is the job of the local school board. Taxpayers are wondering how they are supposed to cough up the extra taxes for these raises when taxpayers  aren’t getting those kinds of raises. Others are wondering how many people in other professions would keep their jobs if they walked out for several days to protest on the streets and capitol building??? Many think boards/school districts should take a good look at their administration budgets/salaries and cut some of the deadwood off the top.- ft

Board of Supervisors Clint Hickman and his family were invited to the White House for the annual Easter egg roll. Briefs will have photos on that event on Monday. - ft

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Brent Backus-LD13LD13 Senate candidate Brett Backus: For those going to the Saturday Maricopa County GOP Lincoln Day luncheon,  please enjoy your lunch and speaker.  I have a business conflict and can not attend. For those assisting in getting my petition signatures, thank you. Bottom line...we will hold the Senate Republican seat in LD13.

Steve Slaton 2NCRC Chairman Steven Slaton responds to LD14 PC Bruce Piepho 4-27-18-briefs First Bruce Piepho - 2of all Bruce, You were not in Navajo County nor were you involved with what was going on. Let me enlighten you as to the facts. First of all, there were only 17 elected PC’s in Navajo County. Nobody was willing TO STEP UP AND RUN FOR Treasurer or Secretary! Therefore we had to change our bylaws to accommodate that situation. This way we always would have a quorum for the meetings. We did sent the changes to the AZGOP for ok and they were fine.  It was Sylvia Allen and her minions who Sylvia Allen 6 Sendidn’t like not being in charge. Furthermore Jill Skaufel, after being appointed PC - decided that she no longer wanted to be a appointed PC, since she did not have voting rights as an elected PC. I had to go to the Board of Supervisors to have her removed as an appointed PC. These are the type of people we are dealing with. I suggest to you Bruce - if you weren’t there and don’t know what’s going on just please stay out of this because you don’t know the facts.

wes harrieLD20 SC Wes Harris to Gov Doug Doucy: Doug, I will believe it when I see it. Doug Ducey 2015 2 First we do not need raises for 'support staff' as this is where the bulk of the money goes at present.  Which Superintendents and or School Board Presidents were consulted on any of this?  How much did you all increase the funding for regular class room activities?  Where is the money coming from?   How are Charter Schools affected by this promise? This is 2018 two years away from 2020.  What rabbit will you pull from the hat to support this claim?  Where is the new Legislature going to be on this in 2019 and 2020  when we have a different makeup?  I believe these are all legitimate questions.  This rings like the old political promise of a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot.  Sorry...not buying it especially when you consider that the Legislature budgeted $450 per student for capital maintenance but delivered only $70. Oh...by the way, only locally elected School Boards have the authority to raise teacher’s salaries, not the legislature nor the Governor's office.  The "RedforEd" petitioned the wrong people, in my opinion.

American Post-Gazette - Random Thoughts On #RedForEd: Two uncertified teachers, both millennials (i.e., snowflakes) and radical socialists, are leading the #RedforEd movement. One, Noah Karvelis, couldn’t get certified because he’s too ignorant of the U.S. Constitution and the Arizona Constitution to pass a simple test. Learning that this David Hogg look-a-like is a protégé of socialist Bernie Sanders, puts a lot of his disrespectful, foul-mouthed comments in perspective. But tens of thousands of Arizona teachers have put their faith in him and, of course, Doug Ducey 2015 2he’s become a media darling. His vitriolic attacks on his opponents will cause more harm than good to the process. House Speaker JD Mesnard was the earliest to cave. Isn’t “Mesnard” French? That would explain his surrender before even the first shot was fired.

Gov. Doug Ducey was too quick to acquiesce. Even though they already had their walk-out planned, Mr. Softee agreed to the teachers’ original demand of a 20% salary increase so fast it took the teachers by surprise. So much so that their radical leaders jumped right in and – asked for more. The trick will be two-fold: (1) coming up with a reasonable and sustainable funding source, and (2) getting the Legislature to buy into it. Hopefully, Ducey will read Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal. If he already has, he needs to re-read it.

The Legislature is catching heat from the media, egged on by ignorant comments from protesters that the House and Senate “adjourned early” on Thursday to avoid the protesters. Except for sine di, the Legislature always adjourns on Thursdays, takes Fridays off and returns on Monday. The media knows that—or should—and not properly reporting it is a dereliction of duty. Except, most of the media believes it is their duty to support socialist policies and attack Republicans. The media are like vultures circling the Capitol just waiting to swoop down on conservative carrion.

There are polls showing a majority of Arizonans believe teachers deserve more pay. The real issue is where is that sustainable source of funding coming from? Mr. Softee says it can be done without a tax increase—this year. (Be careful—words mean things.) Voters have supported three statewide proposals that were sold to taxpayers as money going to the teachers: In 2000, Prop 301 passed. It was promoted as money going directly to the teachers. The details of 301 were different. Maybe half, maybe, went to teachers, and in some school districts there were reports that no money went to teachers. In 2010, voters approved Gov. Jan Brewer’s jan-brewer 2017 2two-year, one-cent sales tax increase. Part of the sales pitch: This will help the schools. And in 2016, Prop 123, the Arizona Education Finance Amendment, passed, raiding the state’s general fund and the state land trust fund to allocate an additional $3.5 Billion over ten years to schools. In addition to the $4.5 Billion annually appropriated to the schools, many billions of dollars more have been sent to the local school boards around the state. The real question before is: What have the local school boards done with all the money? Before they are given even more money to distribute to their already overpaid administrators, there needs to be an accounting. #RedforEd doesn’t address that concern because the local school boards and district administrators are controlled by the small, but boisterous and influential, teachers’ unions. They only want to blame the governor and the legislature, instead of the real culprits—local school boards. Yours in the Cause of Truth, - A. Hamilton

Denise Reilly, Former LD22PC: In light of my husband’s letter to the editor, 4-27-18-briefs. I’d like to share my experiences working with public educated children, kindergarten through the 6th grade, in various social settings. As very involved Christian homeschooling parents, both my husband and I volunteered our time with many organizations, mostly in church activities, local sports, food banks and the Cub Scouts. One of the most disturbing experiences that I recall occurred when working with public educated children with Bible verse memorization in the Awana church program. I recall on several instances, while the individual child would read the scriptures to me, the child would say “pass.” I was bewildered and said, “That word doesn’t say pass.” And the child would tell me that in public school they were told by their teachers to say “pass” if they didn’t know the word, instead of being taught by the teacher what the word was and how to phonetically read the word. This was with fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. These children all attended the same award winning, Blue Ribbon, nationally recognized public school. This all occurred during the push for Outcome Based Education and Goals 2000, which is currently known as Common Core. I believe many of our public educators have been given a “pass” for far too long. Throwing more money at teachers that aren’t teaching the proper academic skills, such as reading, writing, arithmetic and American History is not the answer. Our decision to homeschool was validated by our personal experiences with public educated children. Is it any wonder why our society and the current government education system is in the mess that it’s in when children are taught in the public schools to “pass” when life presents difficult situations? I vote “PASS” (no) on a teacher pay raise!

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Paul Gosar 2016Yesterday, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) introduced Criminal Alien Removal Clarification Act. This legislation ensures that non-citizens, convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors, can be removed from the United States. The language is simple, satisfies Constitutional scrutiny, avoids loopholes, and gives codified guidance to the DOJ and Homeland Security in order to remove non-citizens who break our laws.“Judge Gorsuch’s ruling revealed a glaring loophole in our immigration system, said Gosar. The lack of clarification regarding criminal alien eligibility for deportation cripples our government's authority to keep our communities safe and free of violent criminals. This legislation provides a reasonable solution that prioritizes American citizens. Aliens with lawful status are here as guests, and should not maintain their status if they break the law."

Doug Ducey 2015 2Gov Doug Ducey understands the pain and pressure that a strike puts on Arizona parents and students. He has a plan that can end this, and he's working around the clock to get his 20x2020 plan passed. The governor has been meeting with legislators of both parties late into the night and making calls early in the morning. It's his number one focus. Get the update from the governor himself in this morning's interview with 3TV: Ducey- Talks Education On Chan 3 Governor Ducey understands the pain and pressure that a strike puts on Arizona parents and students.
