5-17-18 Briefs

Ayshia Connor 2All Kinds Of Errant Scuttlebutt has been floating around that AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines allegedly canned Executive Director Matt Kenney. Here is the official word on the issue from AZGOP Communications Director Ayshira Connor:
Matt Kenney 2Statement from Matt Kenney, Executive Director of the Arizona Republican Party, “As many of you know, over the last few months, I have been struggling with debilitating back pain. Last week, I underwent back surgery. While the surgery was a success, I know that the road to recovery is a long one. With the stakes as high as they are in this election cycle, I know that I can’t simultaneously recover from back surgery and effectively execute the duties of the Executive Director of the Arizona Republican Party. As such, I have asked Chairman Lines to reassign me to a new role within the organization. I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments we have already had this cycle, including record-setting fundraising events, an unprecedented field program, and a great victory in the AZ-08 special election. I’m honored to have had the opportunity to serve as Chairman Lines’ Executive Director, and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve our party and our President in the months and years to come.”
Jonathan lines (3)Statement from Chairman Jonathan Lines: “I am incredibly thankful for Matt Kenney’s service. On his watch, the Arizona Republican party has already realized the kind of success that we haven’t seen in decades. Matt worked diligently to bring the party back into the black, and to oversee a massive expansion of our field, data and communication operations. Matt is an Army Ranger, a combat veteran, and a true America hero, and I know our party is grateful to his service. We will do everything we can to support him as Kyle-Pierce-political direct AZGOPhe continues to recover from his injuries. In the meantime, I have asked our Political Director, Kyle Pierce, to assume the role of Interim Executive Director. Kyle is a longtime Republican activist and operative, and has grown our political training and data operation with tremendous success. Kyle oversaw the field and victory operation throughout the Arizona 08 special election, and has earned the respect and confidence of our staff and volunteers. I am very appreciative that Kyle has agreed to assume this crucial role as our Interim Executive Director.”

A New Partnership Between Three Maricopa County Departments aims to reduce the amount of trash and litter left behind at the Lake Pleasant Regional Park during busy holidays. The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department maricopacountyparks.net , Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) mcdot.maricopa.gov, and Maricopa County Waste Resources and Recycling (WRR) Department Waste-Resources have teamed up for an Anti-Litter Campaign to ask park-goers to pick-up and throw away their own trash at the county’s most-visited park. “Lake Pleasant’s beautiful scenery is a source of pride for Maricopa County,” said Clint Hickman, Clint Hickman 2018District 4 Supervisor for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. “We want visitors to enjoy the park and its many recreational opportunities, however, through this partnership, we are asking visitors to do their part in keeping the park in pristine condition.” As part of the partnership, all vehicles entering the park during the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day holiday periods will receive an orange trash bag from MCDOT’s Adopt a Highway program along with educational information about the impact of littering. WRR will provide additional dumpsters to give recreationists more options for trash disposal. Approximately 8,000 visitors are expected to enter Lake Pleasant Regional Park during each holiday period.

tom morrisseyTom Morrissey, Former Chairman AZ GOP: Last evening Kris and I attended the Payson Tea Party meeting where we heard a presentation by Representative Bob ThorpeBob Thorpe #6What he told us was astounding and scary and here it is folks.  He submitted a bill that would have closed the primaries to anyone who isn't a Republican and the leadership of the AZ GOP REFUSED to support it.  I asked him to repeat that statement because I was so blown away by it. What in Heaven's name is going on with our state party? A closed primary would mean that only Republicans could pick our candidates.  It would eliminate a huge cost to candidates who have to do mailings to Independents.  This makes absolutely no sense and smells of the Establishment Elites death grip on OUR party. Now the question for all of us is "What are we going to do about it?" If the answer is "nothing" - then we no longer have a party.  Plain and simple.

dexter duggan

Writer Dexter Duggan: As Terri Mendoza said recently in Briefs, you put out a very important newsletter! Thank you for your efforts!

carole bartholomeauxCarole V. Bartholomeaux: Thank you for posting information about avoiding fires.  I was not aware of all those mentioned. Since March I have advocated publicly the importance of "hiring" goats to clean out the underbrush which can be very dangerous once the fires spread from low ground.  I have made my suggestions at LD meetings and the Phoenix City Council.  More than half US states rent goats for just that reason.  Because we are already deep into fire season, I do not know if it is too late to use the goats but it's worth a try.  Puts fewer fire fighters in danger and helps the income of goat "farmers".

Yavapai County PC Richard Hennessey: I have come to the realization that being a PC anymore is a waste of time.
We hold three or four PC meetings a year which are a total waste of time.
Than if you go to State Committee Meetings the AZGOP establishment wastes the whole morning and half the afternoon on garbage so when they have to confront the issues that matter they can deflect by using the excuse that we only have a hour left in the hall.
This crap started with Robert Graham and has only gotten worse with Jonathan Line's.
   Using a phony Parliamentarian.
A lot of people condemned Tom Morrissey but he ran a honest meeting.
I also wonder what Graham, Line's and Kenney are REALLY trying to cover up with the AZGOP finances?

Zack Taylor, Chzack taylorairman NAFBPO.org : Immigration-Crackdown-Shifts-To-Employers-As-Audits-Surge What a novel idea, enforcing an immigration law that was passed in 1986? We know homeland security is on to something here. Now if DHS will just let border patrol do their job at the border, the central american surges and caravans will cease. We have been advocating to enforce existing immigration law as the solution to illegal immigration since we were first chartered because we know it works.
Which is obviously why the existing law has not been enforced at the border or in the interior. Think about that.Lawlessness begets more lawlessness, doesn’t matter who is engaging in it or why.

Alan Korwin 3Firearms Expert Alan Korwin: You want censorship? Guns save lives. Guns stop crime. Guns protect you. Guns are good. Guns are fun. Guns are why America is still free. The shooting sports (the what?) are the number two participant sport in the nation, ahead of golf, which makes page one often. Yet virtually the only gun stories that make the papers complaining in the latest CJR eblast about Alden censorship are crime related. You know that's true. The vaunted CDC suppressed three of its scientific studies that found nearly 2.5 million defensive gun uses every year, three years in a row (1995 – 1997). That coverup may have gotten minor lip service, but how about what that implies? Divide by 365? This is just one topic, my own specialty. Many others in their fields are inured to this same fate  This is why the "news" has suffered such debilitating loss of customers and credibility. And here are CJR supporters crying about censorship. A-Unified-Front-Against-Alden-Global-Capital-Makes-Its-Way-To-New-York. I wish my journalism colleagues could hear this. They do not. - Alan Korwin, The Uninvited Ombudsman http://www.gunlaws.com/PageNineIndex.htm

boe jamesLD23 Activist Boe James: I don't want to start a long debate about the Fountain Hills primary property tax vote, it is over and the NO vote prevailed.   But I would like to address comments in 5-16-18-briefs

To Nancy Plencner.  Glad to hear that "Those of us who worked diligently on defeating this Referendum will now add our voices and efforts to those of other Fountain Hill citizens to develop a fiscally responsible approach to funding Town services".  Too bad the naysaysers did not add their voices before the issue was put to a vote to provide viable solutions to the Town's revenue v expenditure problem.
     1. To Carol Kelso: First, my name is Boe, with an "e" at the end of it.  It is not a nickname and you have seen it many times.
     2. Second, in response to your item 1, the vote was to authorize a town primary property tax where none now exists.  It is not a 20% increase since no town primary property tax currently exists.  The dollar amount was based on an educated estimate of future needs. And I doubt if the dollar amount actually made any difference to the vote outcome since the most common refrain was "No new taxes" and the next most common was probably: "no, never".
     3. Third, in response to item 3, I have always found the FH Times to be pretty even handed.  If they would not publish your letter, there probably was something in it against their stated policy.  They did not publish one of mine when I wanted it but published it the following week when there was room.  Publishing 50 Letters to the Editor was quite a few and the paper did warn us to get them in early.  I am sorry you found it repugnant, but, as a journalist you know that the paper has the right to publish or not publish what they want.  You had a much better chance of being published in the Times than in the Republic to which I have submitted many unpublished letters.
    4. Fourth, in response to item 4, as to truth or false facts, I think the Yes facts were far more truthful than the many distortions of the truth and false reasoning of the naysayers. The facts put out by the YES Pac were true, but some people on the Yes side might have misstated things, as did many on the NO side.

McCain Tells Us To “Go To Hell”: Arizona’s very senior senator, John McCain, is not going “gently into that good night.” No, he is as feisty as ever. But, as usual, not in a good way. His latest comments and insults include telling every Trump supporter, in fact, anyone with good taste and a sense of right and wrong, that they should “Go to hell” if they don’t like the fact that he would again, if given the chance, turn over a fake Russian dossier about Donald Trump to the FBI. No surprise. The self-proclaimed maverick of the Republican Party has never been shy about his disdain for anyone who disagrees with him. After all, according to a liberal opinion writer at the Washington Post (are there any other kind?), John McCain is the “single greatest political leader of our time.”
Sorry, not buying it; not for a second; not for this “time” or any time.
This isn’t about John McCain the father. No doubt he is a good, loving father and his children should honor that with respect, love and loyalty, as Meghan McCain certainly does, almost to a fault. This isn’t about John McCain the husband. No doubt he has been loyal to his wife, Cindy (the same can’t be said about his first wife, but . . .). And this isn’t even about John McCain’s military service, even though his entire political career was built on that hero worship foundation. (Any man or woman who puts on the uniform of the United States military and puts himself or herself in harm’s way is worthy of at least a portion of hero status.) No, this is not about any of that. This is about John McCain the politician.
For the past 30-plus years, John McCain has been the go-to-guy liberals in Congress and the media have gone to whenever they want to poke conservatives in the eye. And Sen McCain is always willing to be quoted. He speaks like a conservative back here in Arizona (“Build the dang fence.” “Obamacare is outrageous.”) but votes for amnesty (Gang of Eight) and against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. No one will forget the circus atmosphere of the entire U.S. Senate waiting breathlessly for Sen McCain to cast the last vote which would decide the repeal or not of the abomination we know as Obamacare. Rising from his sick bed, he enters the hallowed hall of the Upper Chamber, strides to the front, holds out his right hand like a little Caesar at a Roman gladiator contest ready to give a thumbs up for repeal or a thumbs down to keep the atrocity going. Dramatically, he hesitates . . . then gives it a thumbs down. Obamacare is saved for the masses. Pure pandering; pure theater; pure self-promotion. Yes, that is pure hypocrisy. And it’s certainly not great political leadership. It’s the opposite—it’s political cowardice.
The irony is Sen McCain is loved by the left, in particular the media, only when he slams his fellow Republicans, especially conservatives. But when Sen McCain ran against the left’s little messiah, Barack Obama, for president, the media, like spawns of Satan, turned on him. And he didn’t’ fight back. He cowered. He capitulated. He simply gave up. When supporters tried to get him to go after Sen Obama, his response was a weaselly, “Oh, Senator Obama isn’t so bad.” Well, yes, he was, as we so unfortunately discovered for eight years. And now, Sen McCain has the audacity to claim we were better off with Pres Obama than we are with Pres Trump.
Sen McCain hates Donald Trump; that is obvious. And he is doing everything he can to undermine a duly elected president. Whatever his intentions, his reasons, he is not showing great leadership. This is not statesmanship. As Sen McCain nears the end of his career and the end of his life, you would think he would be more circumspect, more kind, more wanting to make amends, more forgiving. But he's not. He is demonstrating his animus, his bitterness, his vindictiveness, and his lack of character. Telling everyone who disagrees with him to “Go to hell” is indicative of that.
I read on several FaceBook posts a great comment that I will quote here: “Is this is a strongly worded request, or is McCain inviting you to join him?” --J. Madison Disarm the people—that is the best way to enslave them.

ELECTED OFFICALS SPEAK OUT
Rep. Andy Biggs: James Comey needs a civics lesson
Andy BiggsYesterday, the House passed the VA MISSION Act of 2018. Congressman Biggs voted for the legislation and issued the following statement: “Today’s vote is another step in the right direction for veterans all around the country. President Trump and members of the 115th Congress understand the importance of improving health care choices and strengthening the Veterans Administration for our veterans. The VA Mission Act continues our efforts of the past 18 months. Though there is more work to do, we are working to ensure that our warriors are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”

kelli ward 2018 a
US Senate candidate Dr. Kelli Ward, leading Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, commends President Trump's $15 billion rescission package: "Congress has failed to cut wasteful spending and Krysten Sinemareform federal programs. The result is more spending, more deficits, and more debt that will burden our Martha McSally 3children and grandchildren for decades. President Trump is taking an important first step to make the federal government more responsible with taxpayer money. Congress's bipartisan spending addiction was on full display earlier this year when Arizona Reps. Kyrsten Sinema and Martha McSally voted for the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill, which was rife with waste and funded innumerable Democratic priorities. The President's proposed spending cuts should be passed right away."
Frank Riggs 8Frank Riggs, Supt Of Public Instruction Candidate: No candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction in the history of Arizona has done more for the establishment, growth and success of charter schools, in Arizona and nationally. The Heritage Foundation said of my service in Congress as Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education: "Representative Riggs spearheaded many cutting-edge initiatives like school choice and charter schools." I was the congressional author of the Charter School Expansion Act of 1998 creating a competitive grants program at the state and local level to help charter schools with their startup and expansion costs. Many, if not most, Arizona charter schools have received "Riggs grants" that were instrumental to their growth. I was also the author of the Credit Enhancement for Charter School Facilities Program to help charter schools acquire, build and finance their facilities. The result has been a vibrant charter school financial sector providing low-cost bank and bond capital to help charters with their biggest challenge, namely finding affordable and suitable educational facilities at every stage of their growth. After leaving Congress (keeping my term limits commitment), I became CEO of an award-winning, national education nonprofit and Community Development Financial Institution helping charter schools with low-income student populations acquire, finance and build their facilities, including 12 Arizona charter schools educating 5,000+ students in grades K-12. Experience matters, and I’m the candidate who’s worked with and for charter schools over two decades to promote more competition and choice in K-12 education. Riggsforaz.com

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Paul Gosar 2016Congressman Paul Gosar: The United States’ military engagements since the passage of the 2001 and 2002 AUMFs lack sufficient congressional oversight regarding the United States’ use of force. Last week, I joined my colleagues in signing a letter to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations expressing our concern and opposition to a new authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) legislation that would allow all current military operations to continue with no new constraints.

CD4 Congressman Paul Gosar: Last week, I spoke with German members of parliament, the European Union, and the German administration about taxes and migration. I also spoke with Hungarian Ambassador Laszlo Szabo, M.D. on border fencing. Hungary's border fence stretches 100 miles and is patrolled by soldiers, dogs, and 3,000 border police. According to Hungarian authorities, the wall has effectively shut off the main migrant route, police arrested only five undocumented immigrants last month, compared with 3,528 before the fence existed in March 2016.
