Steve Slaton 2Steven Slaton, President of AzRA: The new Team Of Elected Officers are very excited to move AzRA forward to battle those who are in favor of several bad upcoming ballot initiatives.  One is the National Popular Vote (NPV). This is a direct attack on our Constitution. There are many Republicans who, for some reason, think this is a good thing. It is our job to take on this task of informing the public of the danger facing our Republic. If you are a conservative Republican and want to join the fight or start your own chapter to team up with others in your area to defeat NPV, please contact us at info@azraaz.com Our web address is www.azraaz.com or www.azrepublicanassembly.com Both will get you there. For God and Country,

tom morrissey  Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: June 14th is Flag Day,sheriff joe arpaio 4donald trump so appropriate for the celebration of the day that two great patriots, President Donald Trump and former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, came into this world.  Both are a blessing to our country and both have gone to great lengths to protect this nation by standing tall, even in the face of great fury for staying true to their principles and refusing to back down when the going got tough. Happy Birthday to you both and thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

Activist Nancy Russell Plencner, Fountain Hills - Re: Monday's Poor john mccain 2John McCain piece: Having lost a loved one to the very same horrible brain cancer that will take John, I would never wish on my worst enemy what our family had to endure and what the McCain family is now dealing with.

What I would wish is that the man I met 36 years ago in his first run for Congress could somehow reappear.  John McCain always has been a hard charging, waste no time, short fuse guy who lived non-stop.  Fueled always with a cup of coffee he could speak knowledgeably on any DC topic, to any audience, at the drop of a hat. That early Congressman who was my Congressman in Tempe had a pretty young wife and new baby girl. That McCain came back to Arizona most weekends, he painted houses for the downtrodden, and immersed himself in Barry Goldwaterconstituent matters.  He was a good Congressman for the District, and yes he did have that awful temper and clearly was driven, but he was not a mean man in those early days. When he replaced retiring Senator Barry Goldwater things started to change.  I saw him lose it too often, especially when there was any reference or challenge to his character.  Most of us who witnessed the temper excused the outbursts because of what he endured in Viet Nam.  But McCain the Senator became different as his passion for national prominence seemed to become all encompassing. He was seen less and less in Arizona as he flitted around the world seeming to crave the non-stop media attention.  The Presidential run was to be the pinnacle of his career and the subsequent loss clearly, incredibly hard for him to accept.  In the Senate he had become a legend, the Lion, the Maverick, the bipartisan Senator.  While back home he was losing support as he spent most of his time away from the tempedonald trumpring atmosphere of Arizona's voters.  It appears the last few years have been more about the mean spirited, gotcha Senator, the one who glorified in voting "thumbs down" on ObamaCare and who controlled the Arizona Republican establishment with a financial iron fist.  The day candidate Donald Trump spoke carelessly about McCain's prisoner status was the day the atomic McCain went off....and he has taken every opportunity, every day since to try to stop Trump and then to denigrate and vilify the man who was elected our President. McCain, until his dying breath will never forget, forgive or stop the vicious Trump attacks.  With few precious days or weeks left in what should have been chronicled as an exceptional life it appears McCain's last dictate is that the President of the United States not attend his funeral. What a truly sad final chapter to a military man's life, it is really painful to watch. I just wish John had stepped down in December when it became clear he could not return to Washington and fulfill his obligation as a United States Senator.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Doug Ducey 2015 2Gov Doug Ducey: Arizona's economy is growing and our schools are improving. Right now, Arizona students lead the nation in improvements in math and reading. Another area where Arizona is leading? Civics education.
Governor Ducey campaigned on improving students' understanding of our system of government. And when he took office, the first bill he signed into law was the American Civics Act - which requires ALL students to pass a basic civics test before graduating from high school. Since then, dozens of states have followed Arizona's lead to pass a similar requirement for their students.
Governor Ducey spoke with conservative talk radio and TV host Hugh Hewitt recently about Arizona leading to become the first state in the nation to pass the American Civics Act. Governor Ducey also spoke about "growing Arizona's economic pie" and expanding opportunity for all Arizonans. Just a few years ago, Arizona was only half recovered from the recession and families were struggling. Since 2015, Arizona has added over 160,000 private sector jobs and our economy is the fourth fast-growing in the nation - but there's more to do.

Andy BiggsCongressman Andy Biggs: "I congratulate President Trump for leading this summit in accordance with the principles of the United States. He and his team diligently worked for this historic moment and were skillful ambassadors for our nation. I am extremely hopeful that this meeting was the first step of a negotiated process that will bring denuclearization and stability to the Korean Peninsula and northeast Asia. I believe that stability in the North Korean regime will provide stability for the peninsula and region, and will produce a better chance for peace."

· Biggs: US Rep. Andy Biggs: Change Senate rules that hinder GOP pro-life agenda

Paul Gosar 2016Congressman Paul Gosar: I am proud to join Congressman Andy Biggs and other great patriots in asking the court to rule that the federal law does not require the federal government to arrest and deport a criminal alien “immediately” after the criminal is released by the state or local government or else not at all. Currently, some jurisdictions are releasing hardened criminals into our neighborhoods and leftists claim the federal government cannot deport them unless they are “immediately” taken into custody when the local governments release them. The leftists know that the federal agents cannot possibly be standing by on call for this and they want these convicted and dangerous illegal aliens roaming your neighborhood. This is ridiculous and not required by the law so we are asking the Court to change this dangerous practice. Click here to read more

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

Steve Gaynor 2Steve Gaynor, Secretary of State candidate: Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a debate with Michele Reagan at the Mesa Republican Women’s Club. We were both asked if we support a pro-life agenda. I declared that I am pro-life. Secretary Reagan said “Yes. I have a very long voting record where you can check that.”

My campaign did indeed check that. On March 27, 2012, Reagan was the ONLY Republican State Senator who voted NO on HB 2036, a bill that prohibited abortions after 20 weeks except in cases of medical emergency. Secretary Reagan's claim of a pro-life voting record is simply not true and her vote makes it clear she is no friend of the unborn. If she can’t keep track of her own votes, how can she keep track of yours?

Kelli Ward - physician 2Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: Martha McAmnesty is doing her very best to whitewash her pro-DACA, Illegals First record...In fact, a new report from The Hill reveals that Martha McAmnesty's office just pulled a video "that showed the GOP congresswoman defending recipients of an Obama-era immigration program." Of course, this comes as no surprise...Remember: just last month McSally also asked to be scrubbed from a pro-DACA bill that she herself co-sponsored. But McSally isn't fooling anyone – The American people, especially Arizonans, are well aware of her fake campaign conservatism and her longstanding history as an ally of the left.  chip-in In many ways, Martha McAmnesty is far worse than even outgoing Sanctuary Senator Jeff Flake... and I need your help to soundly defeat her in the coming primary. Thank you for your bold support, patriot –
