6-16-18 Briefs

David Stringer LD1The Yavapai County Republican Executive Committee is calling for the resignation of LD1 Rep David Stringer over remarks he made at the Yavapai Republican Men’s Forum luncheon on June 11 that caused a media firestorm. “Included in these comments were irresponsible and offensive race descriptors ("there are not enough white kids to go around") and inferences that immigration (not just illegal immigration) was "politically destabilizing" and "an existential threat" to America. These statements were justified by Rep. Stringer on the basis of the racial and ethnic makeup of a large number of these immigrants,” according to yesterday’s press release from the YCR Exec Committee. “The Republican Party, and the nation as a whole, has been embroiled in an immigration debate for some time. Within our party, there are a diversity of opinions ranging from those who would like to seal our borders and dramatically reduce or eliminate immigration to those who would like to see robust immigration featuring easier legal immigration, guest worker programs, and strategic management of who is permitted to enter. We in the Republican Party welcome this debate, respect the opinions of those involved, and wish to find a workable solution that is best for the future of our nation.

“However, one thing the Republican Party cannot tolerate is the implication in any way, shape, or form, that an immigrant should be measured or evaluated on the basis of their race or ethnicity. To do so goes against the very fabric of our nation and what it means to be an American. The phrase ‘liberty and justice for all’ knows no bounds of race or ethnic origin. Mr. Stringer's comments portray an attitude that is antithetical to this fundamental tenet and do not represent the views of the vast majority of Republicans.

“The United States has come a long way in the last 50 years towards improved racial equality. The Republican Party, despite often successful attempts by the Democrats and media to portray otherwise, has promoted a philosophy of governance and social structure that creates opportunity for all Americans regardless of race or ethnicity. Comments like those made by Rep. Stringer do great damage to the party's ability to communicate the qualities of conservative governance to the electorate.

“For these reasons, the Executive Committee of the Yavapai County Republican Committee emphatically condemns the remarks and beliefs expressed by Rep. Stringer this week. Further, we believe that the constituents of Yavapai County, the 1st Legislative District, and the Republican Party would be best served if Rep. Stringer were to resign, remove himself from consideration for reelection, and apologize sincerely for his conduct. We therefore urge him to do this as soon as possible.”

1. Do you support AZGOP Chairman Lines when he calls for the resignation of Rep David Stringer?

2. Does the MCRC support removal of Rep David Stringer?

3. Have you received any communication from Chairman Lines in this matter?

scott powelsonActivist Scott Powelson: Here is a link to a story about the Heritage Foundations Arrowhead Republican Women's Club | Candidate Forumlinks to the Rockefellers and some of their dirty tricks. Read it and tell me if we should trust them. Mr. Frank Riggs seems very proud of their actions he was involved in. Check this linkhttps://exposingmodernmugwumps.com/tag/rockefeller-heritage-connection/ and see if you agree with their programs as a whole. Below that is a copy paste from the page. UNESCO and NAFTA were both mentioned as part and parcel to this.

The Free Trade Agreement got the ball rolling for the development of skills standards by the newly formed National Skills Standards Board. It was endorsed by the U.S. Labor Department Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) study originated under Labor Secretary Elizabeth Dole. This eventually led to the School-to-Work Opportunities Act and the dumbing down of American education curriculum for the global workforce training.

Frank RiggsSupt for Public Instruction candidate Frank Riggs to Lynne Breyer: Lynne BreyerRegarding the LD 14 meeting on July 14th, let me simply point out that I agreed to a side-by-side "debate" with Bob Branch at a recent meeting of the Scottsdale-Fountain Hills AZRA Chapter.  Lynne Breyer, the head of that organization, ran the meeting and moderated the forum.  She did so in a fair and professional manner.  I didn't object or withdraw from the meeting even though on May 30, Lynne had publicly expressed her support for Branch in her Arizona Freedom Alliance blog.  I'm happy to debate any of my opponents.  I think we owe that to the voters.

Except from AFA: Superintendent of Public Instruction, 5 candidates:   Diane Douglas, as the incumbent, has the advantage.  However, the Helen Purcell Syndrome could kick in and bury her based on her bad press.  Of the other four, we think Riggs and Branch are the frontrunners.  If we are right and these two candidates appear together in front of an audience, Branch has the edge due to his more pleasant personality.   Who we think will win: The odds are with Douglas but this could be squeaker.  Conservative advocates and activists favor Branch. Who We Want To Win: Branch

Lynne BreyerAzRA Scottsdale/Fountain Hills Chairman Lynne Breyer to Frank Riggs Frank Riggs: Thanks for your message.  To be clear, you are incorrect about what is expressed on the AFA website.  It is not necessarily everyone's opinion unless the article has a By line.  That site is run by a team of folks who post under the AFA name.  I have never expressed publicly my personal preference.  In fact, after that meeting, several people asked me who I favored, including our own members as well as the guests there.  If I had personally expressed a preference before the meeting with you and Bob Branch, they would Bob Branchalready have known whether I favored one over the other.  Also please note that the article you included in your message is dated May 30, not the day before our meeting. I agree with your summation: voters need to hear fairly from candidates without bias.  Thank you for realizing that I fit that description during our meeting. – Lynne

Barbara Medal 2Barbara Medal: How like the deep-state our AZ establishment so called Republicans (make that, in name only “RINOs”) have become. To sue Ken Bennett is so typical of the Democrat lites who take their marching orders from the leftist Democrats who at this point have so many law suits against our President they probably have no idea of the count. Maybe we should file a lawsuit against Lyin’ Paul Ryan for failure to vacate his Speakership in a timely manner after duly resigning. Better yet, as stated on Lou Dobbs show why not a motion by some brave congressman to have him vacate his Speaker position and force a vote for a new speaker namely Jim Jordan.

For anyone who doubted where the loyalties of Christopher Wray and that slimy IG Horowitz actually reside, now you know. With the IG report so full of contradictions as to be laughable if it weren’t so tragic and Wray’s nonsensical statements are all enough to gag a maggot. Both of these deep- state complicit anti Trumpers have shown their real position in their diatribe of moronic statements and maybe time for the words, “Your Fired,” Let us add Jeff Sessions name to that miserable cabal.

Paul Gosar 2016We have been dealt another blow that will further intimidate david schweikert (2)the Martha McSally 3Debbie Leskospineless useless congress excluding, we hope, our CD4 representative Dr. Paul Gosar who may choose to make that motion for vacating the speaker position. Note we have not heard a peep from Congressmen David Schweikert, Debbie Lesko, Martha McSally on this miscarriage of justice. It was good to see Gosar immediately voice his displeasure.

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

tracy livingston 4Supt of Public Instruction candidate Tracy Livingston is a K-12 teacher with 16 years of experience in the classroom, board member of the Maricopa Community College Governing Board, and a former board member of Peoria Unified School District. Tracy is a student of the Montessori philosophy of curriculum following the child, rather than the child following the curriculum. She understands that young students can and will develop at their own pace – not a pace dictated by bureaucrats in D.C. or Phoenix. Her husband David is an Arizona legislator. See www.TracyLivingston.Vote

Paul Gosar 2016Incumbent Congressman Paul Gosar: When I’m in Washington I want to make sure you can still talk directly to me about your concerns. One of the ways you can share your input or ask me a question on current legislation is tuning in to my weekly Facebook Live sessions. You can also submit your questions HERE and I will read them during next week’s Washington Update. Click here to read more

rene lopezChandler city council incumbent Rene Lopez: Chandler is consistently ranked as not only one of the best cities in Arizona, but in the nation as well. Do you know why? The City of Chandler has a very strong record of attracting businesses to the area while keeping its government as small and efficient as possible.  This has been consistent for many, many years.

2018 is my fourth year serving on the City Council, and in that short time frame we’ve made some major accomplishments:

· We supported massive business expansion projects like those seen at Rogers Corp., Orbital ATK, and Intel

· We lowered the City portion of the property tax EVERY YEAR

· We lowered the City operating budget this year by 5%

Chandler is leading the way when it comes to efficient government, and I want to see this trend continue over the next four years. That’s why I’m running for re-election, and that’s why I need your help. My campaign is doing really well, and now that I’ve qualified for the ballot, I’m turning my focus toward meeting and reaching out to as many Chandler residents as possible. I have a number of Meet & Greets scheduled with some community groups and churches, and I’d be honored if you’d be willing to host your own Meet & Greet for my campaign as well. Click scheduling . I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for your continued support,

Joanne Osbsorne - goodyear city councilLD13 House Candidate Joanne Osborne: As the mother of a Captain Wildland Fireman, I certainly am anxious when he and his team are sent out to battle our forest blazes. Also, as an Arizona Native, it breaks my heart to see thousands of acres go up in smoke. Many factors have led to such destructive fires, drought, unhealthy forests, years of no thinning, and human caused flames. For years, Senators McCain and Flake have lead a charge in D.C. to try and get help, funding and support, but more needs to be done. These thin treed dense forests not only are unhealthy, but they are like little straws drawing away water from stronger, larger trees. Then once fires occur, the debris and ash ends of in our rivers and streams causing blockage and making it harder for our water treatment plants.
As a legislator, I would work hand in hand with our Senators and Congressional Delegates to help us obtain more funding for our forests, help the firemen and women have the tools necessary to do their jobs and try to preserve our forests for our future generations. Most importantly – you, yes you! Can Prevent Forest Fires!! Please use your ashtrays and water down your campfires.

I wrote this from my last trip to our cabin:”It’s windy and dry, while I watch wispy clouds move across the sky. Our forests and animals wait in vain, as they hope for a single drop of rain. Let not the stupidity of man start the course, of fire that would end in miles of land scorched.” Have a great weekend and Happy Father’s Day to all those Dad’s out there!!

Kelli Ward - physician 2Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: Rep. Martha McSally has an F-rating with conservatives. In fact, she scores even lower than Jeff Flake. Help me defeat her and take back Arizona's Senate seat for conservatives. Chip-in and help me win right now.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

JT Mesnard LD17 - speaker of houseArizona Speaker of the House J.D. Mesnard (R-17) today David Stringer LD1released the following statement in response to comments made by Representative David Stringer (R-1):  “I completely disagree that immigration poses a threat to the United States. We are a nation of immigrants – we have been since before our founding and will continue to be as long as our country remains a beacon of freedom and opportunity around the world. While some find challenge in diversity, I believe that any challenge makes us better for it.

“Ultimately, Representative Stringer’s future in the Legislature will be up to him and the voters of District 1. In the meantime, I am dissolving the Ad Hoc Study Committee on Criminal Justice Reform, which Representative Stringer had been chairing. This does not mean that the discussion about criminal justice reform is over, as I know there is strong bipartisan interest to look at the issue, and I thank the members for being willing to serve on this committee. However, so as to avoid compromising the issue, future work will not take place in the form of this committee.”
