Arizona Citizens Defense League AzCDL President Dave Kopp: Don’t Leave Them Defenselessdave kopp 2 - Did you know that Arizona is one of 10 states that already has a statute allowing school employees to carry firearms on school property? ARS 15-341.A.23 currently requires staff to obtain permission from school administration before carrying on school grounds, but the Arizona School Board Association said that they had not heard of any school district using it. Even though responsible teachers and staff can technically carry on school grounds, this statute allows an anti-rights administrator to push their agenda and ultimately endanger our children. Will you donate to help us fight for legislation that protects our teacher’s rights? In these times when schools are turning into danger zones—because criminals see “gun free zones” as easy targets—we need to give our children the best chance of survival. That means ensuring the first line of protection for our children isn’t waiting for someone else with a gun to show up and save the day, but rather enabling the people who are already there, the people we already trust with our children every day. If a teacher or school staff member is willing and able to protect their students, we should not only allow them to, we should help and encourage them. Limitations on our rights, in Arizona and across the country, leave our most vulnerable unprotected. Your donations work towards keeping our rights and freedoms intact!

Activist Landis Aden: What a Surprise. They jeopardize the health and safety of the inmate population and detention officers. What about us citizens? Our health and safety? Keep them in jail. Perhaps to save taxpayers money, outsource them to Mexican jails ? Although no one has more experience or facilities than them Russians. Someone should enlighten Dem gubernatorial candidate David Garcia that the photo he sent out asking for petition signatures opposing Pres Donald Trump alleged putting border crossing illegal’s children in cages -- was printed in the AZ Republic in 2014 under Obama’s watch. ELECTED OFFICALS COMMENTARY

Paul Gosar 2016

Congressman Paul Gosar: I recently joined C-SPAN Washington Journal to discuss immigration policy. We need to have an open discussion about this issue and we need to allow the American people to participate in the conversation. Watch the full clip here.

Sal DiCiccioPhx City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: This is the letter I just sent to City Manager Ed Zuercher. The continued failure of City Staff to execute their basic responsibility under this City Manager is inexcusable – just look at the complete failure to address the needs of our community in South Phoenix, where City staff is in the process of pushing a bad plan down the throats of residents.

Sal letter

john mccain 2U.S. Senator John McCain: Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on North Korea: “Suspending U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises is a mistake. Making unnecessary and unreciprocated concessions is not in our interests—and it is a bad negotiating tactic. Parroting Chinese and North Korean propaganda by saying joint exercises are ‘provocative’ undermines our security and alliances. Moving forward, we must work closely with our allies, especially South Korea and Japan, which have critical equities in the outcome of this diplomatic process. I continue to hope that President Trump will be successful in his diplomatic efforts to achieve the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. But we must not impose upon ourselves the burden of providing so-called ‘good faith’ concessions as the price for continued dialogue. The United States must be clear: we want peace on the Korean Peninsula achieved through dialogue. But it is North Korea—through its nuclear and missile programs, aggressive behavior, and egregious human rights violations—that poses the greatest threat to peace. And until North Korea takes concrete steps to change that, no concessions should be made, and the sanctions must continue.”

Andy BiggsCongressman Andy Biggs on the Department of Justice Inspector General’s report: “This report confirms what Members of Congress have been stating for the past year: there are two standards – one for everyday Americans and one for Washington elitists. Hillary Clinton, as one of the United States’ top public officials, compromised classified information and mishandled government emails with her illegal server. Former FBI Director James Comey abused his authority throughout his tenure. Others – from the former Attorney General to senior agents and prosecutors – at the very least – had serious professional lapses. They are responsible for the breakdown of trust in our justice system. If any of my constituents had mirrored these actions, they would be facing serious legal consequences. Although the Inspector General is an investigative unit and cannot prosecute, his report continues to raise questions about misconduct, dereliction of duty and abuse of power within the highest levels of the FBI. Congress should subpoena Comey to answer for his misdeeds. A second special counsel must be appointed to build on the work of Inspector General Horowitz and probe whether any criminal indictments are warranted. Also, this Inspector General’s report reaffirms our arguments for Robert Mueller’s resignation. Comey continually abused and manipulated his authority – including leaking potentially classified memos to influence the appointment of a special counsel, which happened to be his friend, Robert Mueller. The more we know about Comey’s actions, the more we realize that there was no need for the Mueller witch hunt. It should be dismantled immediately. “I am thankful for the Inspector General’s report – and for his work. However, as I wrote earlier today, I am concerned with the editing process of his drafts – particularly the individuals who had access to the review. I renew my call for Attorney General Sessions and FBI Director Wray to re-open the Clinton email investigation. I will continue to request for all drafts of the report to be transmitted to Congress and for complete transparency and disclosure with the Department of Justice’s role in the Clinton and Mueller investigations.”

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

Virginia Korte 2018Scottsdale Mayoral candidate Virginia Korte: At Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting, I told a standing-room-only audience that the request to rezone some State Trust land to accommodate the Crossroads East project was one of the most complicated cases I have ever contemplated. Based on what several of my fellow councilmembers said during our vigorous discussion, I was not alone. After four hours of presentations and public testimony, we voted 5-2 to rezone 1,000 acres north and south of the 101 between Scottsdale and Hayden Roads.  The vote allows the State Land Department to take the property’s 11 parcels to a public auction.
A spokesperson for Nationwide Realty Investors, an affiliate of the Nationwide insurance company, explained that the organization intends to bid on a 136-acre parcel of the property.  If Nationwide wins the bid, the company will move their offices, which are currently located in the Gainey Ranch Corporate Center. The new location, which the company has designated for a mixed-use development, will allow the company to consolidate their subsidiaries and increase the number of its employees.  That will be a good thing for Scottsdale’s economy.  Furthermore, Nationwide will “set the bar” for additional mixed-use development on the other parcels for office space to attract employers offering well-paying jobs.
The process wasn’t perfect. I shared the feelings of some neighbors near the location that the city could have done a better job of keeping them informed about the project.  I have been assured that the city staff will be working on improving the community outreach process on future projects. In the end, I think we did the right thing for taxpayers by strengthening the future of the city’s economy – and retaining the city’s long-time relationship with Nationwide, one of Scottsdale’s premier corporate citizens.

Frank RiggsSupt of Public Instruction Frank Riggs: The race for Superintendent of Public Instruction will be a tough one and I need your help in order to come out on top in the Republican primary on August 28th. I'm committed to removing Common Core from our schools for good, getting more dollars into the classroom, and making teaching civics and career-technical education priorities again!  Please learn more about my campaign to reform and improve K-12 education in Arizona.I promise to always fight for our conservative ideals of school choice and local control by putting parents and students first! Future generations are counting on us.

phil woolbright 2Arrowhead JP candidate Phillip Woolbright: Woolbright brings a full Court Press both in the court and on the court. Professionally, I seeks to re-establish his service to the community as a Justice of the Peace and as a volunteer. I am a referee for 18 in season basketball games and four weekly off season games. I instills a love for rules and fair play among the youth I serves in our community. Woolbright will engage a Full Court Press to defend the weak. Restitution for the victim. Work to eliminate human trafficking in our society. Help with the opioid crisis. Woolbright a minister for his church has tools at his disposal to help the community. Vote for Phillip Woolbright with innovative ideas for improvement and change.

Doug Ducey 2015 2Incumbent Gov Doug Ducey: Our campaign is off and running!  Governor Ducey has announced the launch of his reelection campaign in a video message, with a focus on Arizona's gains over the last three and a half years, and the work still ahead. Already, people are taking notice. The campaign's theme, "Securing Arizona's Future," focuses on the governor's work to secure good jobs, great schools, and safe communities. While there's more work to do, we've seen a lot of progress.  Since 2015, Arizona has added over 160,000 jobs and 200,000 new residents. Unemployment is at its lowest rate in a decade. Because of this growth, Arizona has been able to invest $2.7 billion into K-12 education and provide teachers across the state a 20% pay raise by 2020. In addition, Arizona’s border strike force, which has seen over $40 million in investments, is stopping cartels and human traffickers from entering our communities. But the governor can't get our message about out alone. – Team Ducey

Clair Van Steenwyk 2LD22 Senate candidate Clair Van Steenwyk: Primaries Are Needed to Keep America Free - Official Petition Signature Challenges were lodged against CD8 Candidate Sandra Dowling, a Marine Vet, Teacher and Constitutional Conservative. The GOP Elites are also challenging Brenda Barton, and have succeeded in LD 22 with a challenge from Gang of 5: Rep. David Livingston, Appointed-Rep. Ben Toma, want-to-be-elected Frank Carroll, the Paid Lobbyist for a National Popular Vote, CQ, along with former LD 22 Chair Eric Morgan.

I wonder why they challenged Mrs. Engen and not Mr. Bullock, with only 13 more signatures than Mrs. Engen, wife, mother, nurse and new to LD 22 Politics; believe a woman on the Ballot was almost certain to win, which would leave one seat for men. So, they came out to remove a newcomer from the ballot! . . . GOP meetings are all-about helping each other, as we’re encouraged to get younger people, to become PC’s and run for office, however apparently not ones GOP can’t control, so the GOP once again EATS its’ Own.

I’ve never witnessed this behavior in the AZ GOP; why now? Well, AZ Senators Shooter, Yee, Burgess, Dial, and Allen sponsored the NPV, as did Reps. Mesnard, who’s now attacking Rep. Stringer for simply stating Facts when it comes to Illegal Immigration. We all know it doesn't sound Politically Correct for the Cowards that want to hide behind Political Correctness while selling us down the River.

These are the Facts in AZ. Well just how close the NPV came to passing, for me the game plan is get Mesnard, Boyer, Gray, Livingston, Allen in the AZ Senate and others in the House, to try again. As all of the previously named in the House Voted for it, and Allen, along Shooter, Burgess, Yee, and Dial, all sponsored it in the Senate. It would have passed in the Senate if Sen. Biggs hadn’t tabled it. Be careful, as History matters--like the report cards we took home so our parents knew we'd been truthful about our grades by what the report card proved we got.

Defeat the ones who Supported and Voted 4 the National Popular Vote! If we had this as law, we’d have had Gore and Clinton in the White House; we wouldn’t be concerned about the Economy, Borders, Freedom etc, as we’d have none! They’d have been working overtime to make America a Socialist Slave State! www.Vote4Van.com~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
