NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Frank ThorwaldActivist Frank Thorwald: Last week, 5 min. before the doors closed at Superior Court of Maricopa County, the State Republican party attorney filed on behalf of Paul Mueller an unprecedented 63 page, 16 count complaint alleging fraud against CD8 candidate for U.S Congress Sandra Dowling 2Sandra Dowling - trying to keep her off the ballot. Yesterday, the County signature count supported former Marine Sandra Dowling so Kory Langhofer (State Republican party Attorney) dropped the frivolous 63 page case against Dr. Sandra Dowling. Please go to her Website to volunteer and donate to this conservative so we can have someone who will listen to what  We The People want! https://www.dowlingforcongress.net Donate: Dowling donate" In case you missed the channel 3 interview see: https://youtu.be/VqxjU359_iEa

zack taylorZack Taylor, Chairman National Assoc of Former Border Patrol Officers www.NAFBPO.org: I am sitting here amazed at how easily the political class has whipped up public sentiment over a false premise of caging children. I have seen this "For The Children" ploy enough times over the years that I am immediately suspicious when the issue of "The Children" is raised. We, NAFBPO, have literally been telling Congress for years what the solution is and they just won't do it.  The laws exist and the precedence has been set and Congress knows this. So from the vantage point where I sit this looks like a fundraising campaign aimed at people with Immigration sympathies on both sides of the issue. I, long ago, came to the conclusion that Congress does not want to fix the immigration problem because too much money flows to either side of the issue, not to mention so many organizations exist to advocate for one side or the other.  If the immigration problem goes away so do the donations and contributions.  The more emotion attached the better the fund raising. In this case the emotional whipping is so obvious before a very important mid-term election that I am beginning to wonder if the rest of America also suspects this is just more political artifice foisted on them to bring legislation that is not in America's best interest and stimulate political fund raising. Here Are Horrifying Photos Of Obama's Illegal Alien Facilities The Media Refuses To Show You Photos-Of Obama-Immigration-Detention-Facilities/

dennis zinke. LD21Activist Dennis Zinke: This is going out to all my friends around the country.  Dale is a friend of ours and resides just around the corner from where Vi and I live.  Hope you enjoy his instrument. Dale playing Songs of the Islands

Activist Peggy McClain: Regarding the mixer advertised for June 27th, there are two additional LD18 Republican House candidates, Don Hawker and Greg Patterson. Neither are listed on the invitation. I know for a fact Hawker was not asked to host nor invited to attend as a candidate. Based on my years as an active PC in LD18, I was under the impression the LD did not back any particular candidates until the general election. LD18 is chaired by Ed Pelligrino, whose wife is the State President of AZFRW. Is it possible there is a little bias since both Norgaard and Shifa are active in the Republican Women's groups? Also, the AZFRW Chair, Lorraine Peligrino has been active in Norgaard's campaign over the years. UPDATE: Regarding the LD17 and 18 invitation that didn't include Greg Patterson and Don Hawker, there is an update.  Some of Don's supporters questioned the lack of invite and I understand he is now being invited.  I don't know about Greg Patterson.

CQLD13 PC Constantin Querard: Clair Van Steenwyk’s  latest rant Clair Van Steenwyk 2on petition challenges was nutty enough your readers deserve some clarification. 6-20-18-Briefs As someone who makes a career of running conservatives against RINOs in primaries, I don't need convincing primaries are important. But you have to follow the law and collect enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. Van's panties are twisted because Ms. Engen was his preferred candidate and Van helped her collect a lot of those bad signatures; so her failure reflects on him personally. He asks why Matt Bullock's signatures weren't challenged since he only collected 13 more? He expresses his belief that Engen was targeted because she was a woman with children and that she should be treated differently under the law and get a pass for failing to meet the legal requirements. All of this is nonsense. Bullock's signatures were checked; he collected from Republicans who lived in the district and he had more than enough. Engen and Van collected too many from Democrats and people who lived outside of the district. Van just doesn’t think personal responsibility should apply to him or his chosen candidates. Conservatives believe the law should apply to everyone the same. The whole "but it’s a woman with children" argument is emotional blackmail when the left uses it at the border, and it’s nonsense when Van uses it here. I’ve elected lots of women with children so to suggest that the GOP or any of us are hostile to women with children is asinine.

Finally, as always, Van must attribute the entire conspiracy to either National Popular Vote or EPCOR. This time it was NPV. I have no idea where Engen is on the issue but Frank Carroll has spoken AGAINST it numerous times. My helping to elect a good conservative who disagrees with me on NPV easily puts to lie Van's conspiracy theory. I have clients who like it and clients who don't. Van reflexively opposes everything I lobby for as being dirty or corrupt and he wants the fact that in addition to electing conservatives I also do a small amount of lobbying to be a smear on my record, but that puts him on the wrong side of issues like the Balanced Budget Amendment, federal Term Limits, Right to Repair, shutting down unregulated marijuana clubs, trying to block federal health care exchanges (ObamaCare) and plenty more that I've worked on. In any case, that's already more time than I should be spending on a guy who barely beat Brenden Dilley in the CD8 primary for Congress.

john mccain 2Senator John McCain hasn't been in D.C. since December 2017 and should concentrate on his health instead of trying to second guess the President and Congress. Nancy Pelosi’s Concern Centered around the government policy of separating children from their criminal parents when they’re detained illegally entering the country. Oddly, she’s never voiced any of these concerns in the past 20 years… which is how long the policy of not detaining children in a government facility has been going on. Is-Pelosi-Trying-To-Incite-Rebellion-On-The-Immigration-Issue

“Separation” guidelines did not change: The Obama administration separated immigrant children from accompanying adults in two cases: (1) if the child was in danger or (2) if the accompanying adult was being prosecuted. The Trump administration did not alter these guidelines. What did change, however, is that the Trump administration — unlike Obama — is enforcing the law passed by Congress which makes it a crime to cross the border illegally. Trump’s so-called “zero tolerance” policy is really just a manifestation of Article II of the Constitution, which states plainly that the president “shall take care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” See full article What-The-Media-Isn’t-Telling-You-About-Trump-And-Immigration

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

randy MillerLD21 Senate candidate Randy Miller – I’m running because I got tired of the status quo, the belief that once in office, your primary goal is to stay in office and keep the establishment engine running smooth while the people continue to get lost in the fog. I believe we are elected to represent the people’s interest and we must serve with honesty and integrity.

I know I can do a better job than Rick Gray. He was appointed to the position, Rick Gray sen 21not chosen by the people. He was appointed because he has always been a supportive vote for lobbyist, a vote for the governor’s plan and a vote for party leadership at the capital.

I believe in servant leadership, serving the people first and foremost. My opponent was the only Republican NO vote on the right of young people in college to defend themselves with non-lethal means. This is not a conservative in office. My opponent’s destructive and liberal support of the National Popular Vote is not a conservative or constitutional value, basically it’s un-American. Additionally, he is continuing to receive CQsupport and advice from Constantine Querard, the major lobbyist for the dangerous National Popular Vote.

My opponent’s failure to intervene as a member of the appropriations committee with the Department of Child Safety is a failure of moral and fiscal responsibility, costing tax payers over $125 million and jeopardized the safety of thousands of children. I am not the status quo, I am not nor will I ever be a member of the Establishment in politics. I believe in being fiscally responsible, ensuring our government is as efficient and cost effective as possible, finding where we are inefficient and fixing it and where we are throwing money away and stopping it.

I am uniquely qualified to do the job, having worked as a probation officer, with members of the gang task force, being a court hearing officer and investigator, representing cases in court, being an instructor for other agencies in use of force and arrest and control techniques, and supervising line staff in the field, training and developing them to work in dangerous situations. As a member vice chair of the Civic Affairs Committee with the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce, I worked to modify Surprise City Codes, affecting citizens and business alike. I will work with anyone at the Capital that has the people’s best interest at heart. I hope to get your support, which is a voice for change and an advocate for bringing government back to the people, where we are all equal under the law, where our freedoms and financial futures are a responsibility of those in government.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

diane douglas 2Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas: On Thursday, June 14, the Arizona Department of Education in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center, and the Arizona Department of Health Services, coordinated an active shooter training event for Arizona school officials. Douglas, opened the event. “We have all seen the devastating impact to students, parents, schools and communities that have experienced school shooter tragedies,” said Douglas. “Thankfully, we have not had a mass school shooting in Arizona. “We must still remain vigilant. I am frank milsteadencouraged that so many of our school, law enforcement and healthcare leaders from across our state came together to be better prepared, and hopefully even find ways to prevent such an event.” More than 150 participants from across the state attended including, school superintendents, police chiefs, firefighters, psychologists, tribal leaders, public health and hospital staff and the Director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety Colonel Frank Milstead. The event included a two-hour, superintendent-level training focused on active shooter and mass-casualty events, followed by law enforcement current affairs briefing, behavioral health aspects of school shootings and an open discussion.

Andy BiggsCongressman Andy Biggs co-sponsored the Equal Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Act, sponsored by Congressman Mark Meadows. Biggs statement: We should enforce our immigration laws in a way that ensures that all aliens are treated as humanely as possible – especially innocent children. To this end, we must make sure that those seeking asylum are doing so legally and for legitimate purposes. I commend Congressman Meadows for sponsoring this legislation that seeks to support the President’s efforts to enforce our laws, while applying a necessary fix to an outdated law in order to keep families of aliens together at the border.” Congressman Biggs Cosponsors the Equal Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Act
