U.S. Representative Paul A. Gosar and Yavapai County Supervisor Randy Garrison testified on the importance of the bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange Act in the House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands.)

Two Gosar Sponsored Bills Unanimously Pass House Resources Committee: Yesterday, the House Committee on Natural Resources unanimously passed two bipartisan bills sponsored by Gosar, D.D.S H.R. 6146, the Cottonwood Land Exchange Act and H.R. 5556, the Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act. H.R 6146 , is bipartisan legislation that authorizes the conveyance of 80 acres of Coconino National Forest land to Yavapai County, Arizona in exchange for 369 acres of County land that will be conveyed to the U.S. Forest Service. Gosar stated, “The bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange consolidates multiple checkerboards of land at the request of local stakeholders. After many years of collaboration with Yavapai County officials, community leaders, students, parents and the Forest Service, we have found a common sense, locally-driven solution that allows for significant improvements at a high-traffic county park and makes the most efficient use of our land for the benefit of the people of Arizona. H.R. 6146 is good for the County, good for the Forest Service, good for local species and good for families that like parks. I am extremely grateful to Yavapai Supervisor Randy Garrison for making the trip to testify on the bill yesterday and can’t thank the County enough for all their help with this legislation. I look forward to seeing this H.R. 6146 on the House floor.” H.R. 6146 text HERE. Land map HERE. Cosponsors include: CD7 Ruben Gallego, CD8 Debbie Lesko, CD6 David Schweikert , CD9 Kyrsten Sinema and CD1 Tom O’Halleran.

HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act requires federal agencies active in the wholesale power business to disclose the costs of environmental compliance to their customers.“Power customers deserve to be taken out of the dark when it comes to costly environmental laws and policies,” said Gosar. “Right now, in the Pacific Northwest, 30% of the rates are estimated to be related to environmental costs. In Arizona, the Glen Canyon Dam flows are estimated to cost customers up to $50 million annually due to foregone power. More transparency in relation to costs is always a good thing.  I’m pleased to see H.R. 5556 pass Committee today with strong bipartisan support.” HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act  requires the agencies, known as the Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), responsible for marketing and delivering power from federal projects like the Hoover Dam, to report to power customers the direct and indirect costs associated with any Federal environmental laws impacting the conservation of fish and wildlife in their monthly billing statements. Direct costs associated with compliance include costs related to environmental studies, capital, operations, maintenance, and staffing. Indirect costs would include forgone generation and replacement power costs. Congressman Gosar’s legislation does not repeal or change a single environmental law; it simply requires much needed transparency that is long overdue. Text HERE. The bill has 16 original bipartisan cosponsors including Arizona CD5 Andy Biggs. The Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act is endorsed by the Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association, the Irrigation and Electrical Districts Association of Arizona and the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Donald Trump Challenged Status Quo During Helsinki Summit With Putin: Rep. Andy Biggs

Congressman Biggs Votes to Supports ICE Officers: “ICE agents daily put their lives on the line in protection of Americans around the country. Congress must give them the resources they require to do their jobs, instead of partisan attacks from Democrats. I am grateful for these men and women who help maintain the security of Americans.”

Congressman Paul Gosar: ICE is the Price We Pay - Earlier this week, House Democrats introduced legislation to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Check out my op-ed in the Washington Examiner to find out why we can't afford to lose ICE. Click here to read more

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Prioritizing Arizona’s Election Security - Last week, I questioned the Department of Homeland Security's Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) Christopher Krebs about the security of Arizona’s election infrastructure. Krebs is in charge of the NPPD, which works to protect and enhance our nation’s physical and cyberspace security. I asked what the NPPD had learned from the reported hack into an Arizona voter registration system in 2016. For years, foreign adversaries, like Russia, have been trying to undermine America’s democratic institutions and attack critical infrastructure. Click HERE to watch our full exchange.

Gov Doug Ducey: To help reduce smuggling Arizona Department of Transportation officers at commercial ports of entry in eastern and western Arizona are using the agency’s first K-9 units. Between December and May, the two K-9 units, based at the Interstate 10 Ehrenberg Port of Entry near California and the Interstate 40 Sanders Port of Entry near New Mexico, have helped officers seize in excess of 350 pounds of marijuana, 600 vials of hash oil and $90,000 in illicit bulk currency. At the I-40 Topock Port of Entry alone, ADOT officers have seized 686 pounds of marijuana, 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 53 pounds of cocaine since 2014.The K-9s, both of the Belgian Malinois breed, are trained to detect illegal drugs and human cargo. From their bases in Ehrenberg and Sanders, the units work at interstate ports of entry along the California and New Mexico state lines. The pilot program to obtain and train both K-9s cost $29,000. Officers with ADOT’s Enforcement and Compliance Division also investigate fraud involving driver licenses and vehicle titles and assist other law enforcement agencies when requested.

Congressman Paul Gosar is Demanding Answers: I joined my colleagues in the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee joint hearing to shine light on the FBI and DOJ’s handling of two of the most sensitive investigations in the history of our country. There are still many more questions that need to be addressed. I will continue to fight with the last full measure of my efforts to make sure that the American people get the answers they deserve.Click here to read more

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Just three days after Independence Day, Captain Juston Doherty passed away while on Army National Guard training orders at Papago Park Military Reservation. Captain Doherty was the epitome of what makes America great. He received the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned the Medal of Valor during his time as a firefighter. Airman Jason Whitmire, Captain Doherty’s step-son, was denied emergency leave by the U.S. Navy to attend his step-father’s funeral. Although Airman Whitmire lived with Captain Doherty for most of his childhood, he was denied emergency leave because their relationship was not listed on a next-of-kin form. Acting immediately, I led Members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation and sent a letter to the Secretary of the Navy, and personally called the Under Secretary of the Navy, asserting that a clerical error should not prevent Airman Whitmire from attending his step-father’s funeral. One day later, Airman Whitmire was granted emergency leave, and was able to honor the man who raised him.

Secretary of State candidate Steve Gaynor: This week we launched a new digital ad entitled “Awesome.”The spot features footage of Secretary Reagan cheering her SeeTheMoney.com website for being so “awesome” despite the fact that the project was $1 million over budget, two years behind schedule, and displays incorrect data. This website is just one of the many failures Michele Reagan has had while in office. There is nothing ‘awesome’ about how poorly Reagan led this project and how much money she wasted. The Secretary of State needs to be a strong leader who will run the office more like a business.

CD1 Steve Smith, the #1 ranked conservative State Senator in the Arizona Legislature by various issue advocacy organizations, is the prime beneficiary of a new poll released yesterday out of Arizona’s 1st Congressional district. Fielded July 15th - July 16th and facilitated with a mix of interactive voice response polling and live polling, the findings show Smith with 27.2%, Wendy Rogers with 23.2%, Tiffany Shedd with 15%, and an undecided voting population of 34.6%. “Today’s polling indicates that our widespread coalition building, consistent barnstorming, and ability to articulate the Constitutional conservative message is on full display,” responded Smith to news of the poll, adding “This campaign’s outreach is unprecedented and unrelenting. Our base of support remains strong in the South, and we’re constantly creating new inroads in the North. I’m proud to be leading the pack for the Republican nomination, and our team will not stop until the people of this district get the quality representation they deserve in Congress.” Smith’s candidacy continues to build a growing list of support. CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: I’ve got a new video ad - check it out. OK, now the hard part- let’s get this ad out so people can see it. People have to hear how Democrat Tom O’Halleran has been voting with Nancy Pelosi for the radical left-wing agenda. Sure, he pretends to be a moderate while in Arizona. But just like so many do, when they get to DC, they go native. They become part of the Swamp. For Tom O’Halleran, one term was enough- heck, one term was too many! In just one term, he has managed to vote for Obamacare, Planned Parenthood, gun control, and against tax reform and regulatory reform. That’s a horrible record for six terms. But he managed to accomplish all that in just one. That’s why I need to get this ad out- it educates the voters of our district as to why this guy needs to go, and why I will do better. Will you help me? I’d love to get this particular ad out on Facebook and a similar one on TV and radio. Just to get one ad on the Rush Limbaugh Show, 790 AM KNST in Tuscon costs $90. To get one ad on 550 KFYI in Phoenix runs $120…. And that’s just one! Will you help me by sponsoring one ad for $120 (Phoenix), or $90 (Tuscon)? Or sponsor an ad for one day on Facebook for $50, or on TV for $250? We have the right message, and I am the right candidate. Let’s get the word out! America First.
