Condolences To The Family Of Former AZGOP Treasurer Timothy Lee, who passed away during heart surgery yesterday morning. Lee will long be remembered for his dedication to the Republican Party. Sympathy cards can be mailed to 4102 E. Garfield Street Phoenix, AZ 85008 - ft
Tribute to Timothy From Former AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham: "Today, a true conservative and a died-in-the-wool Republican activist began his new journey with our Father in Heaven. Timothy Lee, former long-time Treasurer, PC and State Committeeman of the Arizona Republican Party, passed away yesterday morning August 15, 2018. Timothy was a friend to most, a man feared by some and a person committed to the cause of a true conservative Republican Party. Most of Timothy’s life was centered on the service he provided others. He was always first to wish someone happy birthday. During the holiday seasons he helped usher in the Christmas spirit and shared his Jewish traditions. Timothy was more than a fixture to the AZ GOP and Republicans at large…he was an activist, a fighter and a person committed to the best possible outcome for the people of Arizona. Never wavering, Timothy’s heart was based in loyalty, love and compassion. Some would say…”Timothy will take the heat.” He would take the heat to help facilitate the “right” outcome. The lunches at his favorite deli, the unexpected gifts of pastries and sweets, the warnings and counsel he shared…will all be missed by all he considered friends. He protected us. Timothy Lee gave of himself to each of us and the Republican party. Like anything in politics…some will agree with the tribute above and others will not. Those who do not agree were never blessed by truly knowing Timothy Lee.”
Heather Floyd, LD14 senate candidate Drew John’s campaign manager, denounced the press release that political consultant Constantin Querard circulated in behalf of his client senate candidate David Gowan earlier this week. 8-13-18 Briefs John is currently a representative, who has opt to run for the Senate. Floyd told the Briefs yesterday that Gowan’s press release on John’s tax lein was misleading as John “is paying his taxes” and “his campaign filings were in compliance with the requirements of the Secretary of State’s office.” She noted that the Yellow Sheet posted an accurate summary of John’s rebuttal statement. The summary reads: “John attributed the unpaid taxes to small business troubles during the Great Recession, and in a response on Monday morning noted that he’s on a payment plan to settle his debts with the federal government. John said two of his businesses –a gas station and a motorcycle business – shut down after the 2008 market crash. “I didn't make any excuses, but want to remind everyone of the terribly tough times we went through as individuals, small businesses and large businesses,” John stated, adding that he opted not to file for bankruptcy in favor of paying his debts. “It took me about 10 years to pay people back– but thankfully I was able too. [sic] The one exception has been the federal government – I still owe some taxes,” he said. John further stated that he’s taken full responsibility for his debts, and contrasted his own actions with that of Gowan, who John stated is trying to divert from his own troubles while serving as House speaker. “I believe that I have fully and accurately completed all reporting forms required of those running for office. I certainly was not trying to hide anything – the lien on my property and the taxes I owe are well known and are not required to be reported in the reporting of personal finances,” John stated. “I have completed these reports for 18 yrs now. This is just another distasteful tactic of Mr. Gowan.”

NOTES FROM READERS
Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does NOT endorse pre-primary candidates. Comments running over 400 words are subject to editing. Please include your phone number with your submission for verification of author purposes. – ft
Yavapai County Activist Rick Hennessey: I find it amazing that people can't go to Facebook and my Facebook account for Sheriff Joe's for Senate page and find the video. I found it and post it everyday which I will continue to do on Facebook and Twitter until the primary. Ward rapping in swingers bar All we need is another Ted Kennedy in the Senate. That's what you'll get with Kelly Ward
Activist George Taylor: This took place in Los Angeles California, a Sanctuary City. Sanctuary Cities + Illegal Aliens = Transnational Crime. The transnational criminals abroad cannot operate inside America effectively without their trusted confederates embedded in American Society. Illegal drugs is a border insecurity issue in all 50 states. fbi-raid-nets-20-suspected-cartel-traffickers-nearly-ton-cocaine
Former LD13 PC Scott Powelson: The votes Supt of Public Instruction Frank Riggs made and the bills he cosponsored are not what we should expect from someone running as a Republican. Check out this link to his record. https://www.congress.gov/member/frank-riggs/R000252 Here is one Frank Riggs co-sponsored with Cynthia A McKinney (Democrat) Georgia a gun grabber from way back. In my opinion we should not vote this guy into any office based on his record in office and what he has said in the past, never Trumper that he is. See his record at congress.gov/member/frank-riggs/ Legislation Sponsored or Cosponsored by Frank Riggs H.R.4545 — 105th Congress (1997-1998) Code of Conduct Arms Transfer Act of 1998Sponsor: Rep. McKinney, Cynthia A. Geri Ottoboni-Gilmore of Oro Valley: As the Campaign Manager for Sheriff Paul Babeu, Steve Smith stated "he was excited to be Sheriff Babeu's Campaign Manager and they had Shared interests". Unfortunately that was a bad choice. Later during the Presidential Primary and after attending a Donald Trump rally, Steve Smith decided to endorse Senator Ted Cruz and joined Ted Cruz's Presidential Leadership Team, even had a meeting with Ted Cruz and others where they held hands and prayed Ted Cruz would win the Presidential Election. Interesting on the radio today, Steve Smith stated he decided to switch and go to the Phoenix Rally and speak with Donald Trump, BUT...he never endorsed Donald Trump, volunteered in any aspect or promoted him.
Another strange comment Steve Smith made was he was the first to start collecting money for a border fence, not a wall. That was in 2011. But the really surprising thing he did was in 2017, when President Trump was working to start his Border Wall. The money Steve Smith's group had collected was approximately $55,000. Did Steve give the money to his supposed friend President Trump?? NO, he donated the money to a local Sheriff’s Office. How strange why would he do that? He forgot to mention these little strange things when he was on the radio.
One other little thing, at the State Legislature, they were voting on renewing Rio Nuevo. He stated he voted no, BUT he wouldn't let those individuals who drove up to the Capital to speak against it, including a Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller speak for more than approximately 40 seconds. Those cronies who were for it, Mr Jim Click, Mr. McCutcher, etc. spoke for up to 8 minutes. They voted in favor of it and guess who gave Steve Smith a fund raiser, you got it, Mr.Jim Click, Mr. Humberto Lopez and Mr. McCutcher. So with all these strange behaviors, many people feel, that Steve Smith is not a good fit for CD1. A trustworthy Veteran and Conservative like Col. Wendy Rogers would be a better candidate. The Democrats would have a field day with Steve Smith and Tom O’Halloran would stay in Office.
Former Law Enforcement Officer George Taylor: I do not see a toxicology report in Cashcam Shows How Quickly Police Work Can Turn Deadly It isobvious that the subject driver was impaired at least on alcohol we suspect. I do want you to see what it is like to try to take someone into custody that is high on meth. I know, been there and done that. I was lucky, these two Troopers were not. When an officer rolls up on a situation they never know the condition or state of mind of the subject of their inquiry. There are times when trying to use the minimum amount of force necessary to make an arrest does not turn out well for the officers. Watch the video first. Then please respond to my questions. Here are my questions: When these two Highway Patrolmen realized this person was a danger to themselves and others because they were unable to subdue him what level of force could they have employed that would not bring legal action upon them in today's society in Pennsylvania? Or, because of the sentiment of the press did they give the violator the first shot before employing deadly force?
Supt of Public Education candidate Frank Riggs: Seems Scott Powelson is a little behind on Briefs. He's recycling a baseless accusation that one of my opponents made in November of last year. The accusation was false then and it's false now. No member of Congress worked harder than me to protect the forest products industry of California and the Pacific Northwest as both Anita Christy and Anna Morrison wrote in 11-3-18 Briefs Former Congressman John Doolittle, one of the most conservative members of Congress, was the primary author/sponsor of H.R. 3467. His district, like mine, contained significant forestland. I'm sure he'd be surprised to hear he sponsored legislation that was detrimental to "the loggers in California." In fact, John and I, along with our California colleague, Richard Pombo, led the fight to reform the Endangered Species Act. For my efforts, I was labeled one of the "Dirty Dozen" by the League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Wilderness League and all the other far-left environmental groups: dirty-dozen/dirty-dozen-1996 This is all part of an intentional and concerted effort to distort my congressional record on issues that have nothing to do with K-12 education and the responsibilities of Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft
Steve Gaynor – Secretary of State candidate: The primary vote is now less than two weeks away and we can feel the momentum as we head into the final stretch. As I travel the state, my message of cleaning up the mess in the Secretary of State’s office is resonating with voters. Please help spread our message of conservative competence to everyone in the state. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter Word-of-mouth from friends is one of the most effective ways to help. If you haven’t seen our latest ad, please watch and share it. I want safe and secure elections for our citizens without outside interference. Botched Lastly, did you read what Republican Cochise County Recorder David Stevens wrote about the current situation in the Secretary of State’s office? Read it here
CD1 Candidate Wendy Rogers: "Steve Smith is in panic mode because, despite what he says, he knows he is losing – he hasn't been up in a single poll all year. We stand by our radio ad. It is 100% true. If Steve Smith can't handle scrutiny about his supposed "Christian" website with teenage bikini models and girls in lingerie, and the fact that he personally has a profile on Model Mayhem, a website linked to human trafficking by ABC News and the Huffington Post, then he does not have the stomach for a fight against Tom O'Halleran. Not only is Steve Smith upset that his hidden modeling career is coming out, we are telling voters the truth about his lack of support for President Trump. The fact remains, Smith never endorsed Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton. He is on record ridiculing President Trump's border wall, calling it "a wall too far". In contrast, Wendy endorsed President Trump in the primary and held aveterans rally for him . Everything is corroborated on http://slimysteve.com . Today during the press conference, Wendy was on her 50-stop barnstorming tour around the district the size of Pennsylvania. Our number one focus is winning this seat back for Republicans, so we can maintain control of the House of Representatives." – Spence Rogers, General Consultant Wendy Rogers for Congress Link: WendyRogersArizona/videos/

US Senate candidate Kelli Ward: I'm grateful to have the support of one of the most influential women in the conservative movement: Laura Ingraham. Laura was one of the first to publicly stand behind my campaign to replace Fake Jeff Flake in the United States Senate... even before he announced his plan to step down after his term. “Dr Ward is by far the most committed to the conservative-populist cause. She wants to make Ameica great again. She’s been a stalwart supporters of this president – even when so many in the Republican Party have turned tail and run away from him at keyt junctures.” – Laura Ingraham Having Laura in our corner is something special... and something that terrifies my opponent Martha "McAmnesty" McSally. That's because Laura, like me, will never support lying, fake conservatives who refuse to support President Trump. August 28 will be here before we know it, and the campaign needs resources to continue moving full speed ahead. It's so important that we keep our momentum up in these final weeks and soundly defeat Martha "McAmnesty" at the polls. special contribution
CD3 candidate Edna San Miguel: Dual Citizenship Is Already Failing U.S. Policies And Procedures. -- Tucson's Alex Rodriquez works as a NAFTA outreach in Mexican government. Once blew up in my face at a McSally rally when I quietly asked him if he was a member of La Raza. Others had to back him off of me and calm him down. I think I got my answer. Mexico's new PRI President Manlio Flavio Beltrones, possibly the most experienced politician in Mexico, shrewd and concise. Sergio Arellano is deeply involved with the Mexican government, do you want Mexican politics and other ties with the Mexican government to influence our policies and procedures when in Washington D.C.?
Editor’s Note:When Briefs asked CD3 candidate Sergio Arellano if he is a member of LaRaza, he replied,“The answer is not only no but HELL NO!” When asked about his duo citizenship he replied, “I am what my party calls an anchor baby, I was born in Tucson then taken back to Mexico until Reagan made it possible for my parents to be here legally and afford me the opportunity to grow up in America. Because of that I hold dual Nationality. At the age of 17 when I raised my hand to uphold and defend the constitution by enlisting in the army I relinquished any allegiance to any other country on the planet. I am not registered to vote, do not have an ID card or even a driver license in Mexico, My only involvement is import export and consulting that I do Binationally.”
Chandler City Council candidate Rene Lopez: There’s now only one week to go to fill out and return your early ballot. It is recommended you send back your ballot by this coming Wed, Aug 22 to guarantee it arrives in time to be counted on Election Day. In-person early voting also ends two days after that, on Fri. Aug 24. I would be honored to have your vote for Chandler City Council, and with your support I pledge to continue my work to grow the local economy and keep Chandler as one of the best-run cities in Arizona. Election Day is now less than two weeks away – Remember to return your ballot by this coming Wednesday in order to ensure it arrives in time to be counted on August 28. Editor’s Note: Lopez is current serving as Vice Mayor of Chandler.
CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: You know, having taken on Nancy Pelosi and her minions before, I've learned a few things. I've learned that you can't wait to take the fight to them. They will hit you and hit you relentlessly, repeatedly, with superior resources because Nancy Pelosi wants Arizona under her thumb, and she will direct all of the dirty Swamp money she can toward defeating an honest Republican. That's why I've been hitting Tom O'Halleran for months now. Perhaps you've seen my ad that attacks Tom O'Halleran for obstructing the President. If we don't hit the Democrats now, we won't have enough time due to the lateness of the Arizona primary. I am the only candidate taking the fight to O'Halleran, I have been doing it for months- so that when I win the primary, we will have a head start on the general. I've also learned that the Democrats don't play nice. They don't give you a pass; they don't hit above the belt. If my Republican colleagues think that Tom O'Halleran will treat them with kid gloves, they are mistaken- just ask Babeu, who was soundly beaten in this district, even as President Trump carried it.
This district is HUGE. Geographically, it's the size of Pennsylvania. You simply cannot drive it. You MUST fly it. That's why I am doing a 50-stop tour of events, to meet every voter I can in this sprawling district. Because I own a plane, I'm flying around our beautiful Arizona to do it! What a huge advantage this is. Tom O'Halleran can't match it- that's why he was recently forced to buy an RV, to try to drive around the district. I have news for Tom: if the people of this district don't know you by now after two years, it's a little late to try to drive the district! I'm the best candidate to take out Tom O'Halleran, that's why I'm the only one he is hitting in his emails and ads. I'm the only one he fears -
Well known, close to the President, good fundraiser and with no baggage. Able to travel the district and know all the people I'll be representing. That's why I'll beat Tom O'Halleran. Tom O'Halleran has already reserved over $250,000 of October TV air time. If you want to beat Tom O'Halleran, elect someone who will build the wall and support the President, I need your help urgently- there isn't a moment to spare!
US Senate candidate Martha McSally: Radical left billionaires George Soros, Tom Steyer (who is hell bent on impeaching Trump) and their allies have endorsed my GOP primary opponent by spending now $3 MILLION against me... and this is just the beginning. They are so threatened by my campaign that they will do and spend anything to make sure I don't win. So now they're doing everything they can to help my Republican opponent win the primary because they know they can beat her in November, But They Can't Beat Me. Friend, the Arizona primary is exactly 2 weeks away. We have to seriously ramp it up if we want to overcome the Democrat's sleazy tactics... and we're $21,796 short of our mid-month fundraising goal. I need your immediate support before our mid-month deadline tomorrow: donate here Friend, if the Democrats succeed in defeating me in the Primary, it will be a done deal... they will elect Chuck Schumer's hand-picked candidate Kyrsten Sinema and gain a majority in the Senate. It's up to you and me to make sure that doesn't happen. Please step up right now.
