Secretary of State Michele Reagan has rejected an ACLU demand to unilaterally change more than five hundred thousand individuals’ voter registration addresses to the address listed on their Driver License and send a follow-up letter informing the voter of the address change. Late last year, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) wrote a letter to the SOS’s office requesting she direct Arizona’s Department of Transportation (ADOT) to automatically update a person’s voter registration address when the person changes information on their driver license when using unless the voter opts out.  But then the ACLU demanded that she alter registration records without voters consent. “The truth is we’ve already coordinated with ADOT to make these changes and they’ve scheduled them for 2019,” said Reagan.  “Any conflicting agreement with the ACLU at this point would only produce voter confusion.  While I fully expect the ACLU to file a lawsuit to force these changes before the fall election, our County Recorders and I agree; sending a letter to a half million voters that we changed their registration address without their permission right before an election would have an extremely negative impact on our voters.  I hope the ACLU does the right thing and allows us to implement reforms to the new system and find additional ways to improve the accuracy of registration data and further reduce provisional ballots.”

According Reagan, making these changes could be costly and assumes the voter made a mistake. “Many Native Americans remain registered at their registration address to vote in tribal elections but have a driver license address that corresponds to where they work or attend school.  Additionally, election officials have neither the manpower nor budget for generating letters and new ID cards this late in the election calendar,” said Reagan.  “For these reasons and others, I felt we had no choice other than to reject the demand and prepare for possible litigation.”

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) will hold its first-ever summit between two different regions of the Zip Code Project between 2-4 pm., Fri, Aug 17, at the Dept of Ed, 1535 W Jfferson in Phoenix, bringing together the South Phoenix and West Phoenix-Maryvale regions in an effort to assist disconnected youth. RSVP:

Secretary of State Michele Reagan has officially certified (C-04-2018) "The Clean Energy For A Healthy Arizona Amendment" as having qualified to be placed on the November 6, 2018 general election ballot.  The ballot measure was assigned Proposition 127. To qualify for the ballot, the County Recorders were required to validate at least 11,298 total signatures, with no higher than a 50.28% signature failure rate. The County Recorders validated 16,445 signatures and disqualified 6,277 signatures, resulting in a 27.63% signature failure rate. Pursuant to state law the estimated total number of valid signatures is 328,908, which exceeds the 225,963 minimum to qualify for the ballot under the Constitution. The Secretary of State’s Office notified the Governor that a sufficient number of signatures have been filed and placed the initiative on the 2018 General Election ballot.

He wants want to share stories that tell the character of the candidates. Meluskey said, “So often, we hear of the immoral or foolish behavior of candidates, or we see them grandstanding for their own benefit.  I want to share the good a candidate does when they think nobody is watching and when they’ve nothing to personally gain for their actions. We’ve a couple of weeks before the elections, and this might be a way to help those stuck on the fence as to how to pull that lever. Activist Merrianne Geisdorf: Anyone noticed a list of Write-In Candidates? I received my early ballot for Yavapai County a couple of weeks ago. I filled it out and mailed it. However, as I read the Yavapai County Voting Instructions, I noticed a section toward the bottom titled To Cast An Official Write-In Vote. But – there was NOT a list of Write In Candidates included with my early ballot. I had to go to the Yavapai County Elections website to find out WHO the Official Write-In Candidates were! When I was living in Mesa, I was Campaign Manager for Itasca Small who was running for State Senate from LD25. We didn’t get enough signatures, so she ran as a Write-In Candidate. When it was time to vote, I checked a few polling places and had to really look for the list of Write-In Candidates. It was a small list, not large print, and out of the normal traffic pattern for voters. I’ll bet most voters didn’t even know there WERE Write-In Candidates. AND, there was no list of Write In Candidates in the Voter’s Guide nor included with early ballots. Itasca Small is again running as a Write-In Candidate for State Senate for LD25. I looked on the Maricopa County Elections website curious to see who else was running as an Official Write-In Candidate. After a short search, I found a list of 2018 Official Write-In Candidates. There are 49 Official Write-In Candidates!! DID YOU KNOW THAT?? There are 5 for US Senator, 4 for US Representative, 5 for Governor, 1 for Attorney General, 1 for Secretary of State, and more. Those listed above are Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and Green Party Candidates. They are OFFICIAL WRITE-IN CANDIDATES! WHY are they NOT listed in the Voters Guide? WHY is there NOT a list of OFFICIAL Write-In Candidates included with the early ballots?? WHY do voters have to go to a website to see who the Official Write-In Candidates are? What if voters don’t have a computer? We voters complain that it is hard to get good people to run for office. Some candidates get enough signatures to get on the ballot. Others, for various reasons, choose to run as Official Write-In Candidates. Those listed as Write In Candidates are just as OFFICIAL as the ones on the printed primary ballot. Voters have the right to know about them as well.

Maricopa County Activist PJ O’Malley: While Yavapai County so-called "activist" Rick Hennessey delights in disparaging senate candidate Kelli Ward, he continues to consistently misspell her name, which throws any kind of "research" he claims he's done right in the trash. If you cannot even get to first base in discussing who it is you are deliberately demeaning, that rather inactivates your activist standing.

George Taylor: Only Allah knows what we are doing in Afghanistan, but meanwhile we are sharply increasing immigration from that country. Travel ban? Not at all, even from the countries on the list.  In total, we’ve brought in 2.2 million from predominantly muslim countries since 9/11 and that clip is not slowing at all.  aimless-fighting-in-afghanistan--while-we-bring-afghanistan-to-our-shores/

Marianne Ferrari, LD20 Pc And State Committeeman –There wasn’t clear attribution visible to the post at the top of the 8-10-18 Briefson post. I assume Steve Smith’s spokesman wrote it. For a second, I worried that it might be a message from you, Frosty. That wouldn’t make sense, though, and, besides, there was no “ft” at the bottom. Once I got that straight, I couldn’t help chuckling, on seeing the names of so many elected Republicans. It looked like a RINO convention! And one thought occurred—that voters must start voting out elected officials who use their positions to endorse one Republican candidate and accuse another. I’ve carefully read the website and supporting articles. Gotta say: i see plenty of smoke, there! People need to look, and decide. Make up their own minds. In my opinion, the statements at the press conference, by elected officials, were a laughable attempt to shine a positive light on a candidate who has real negatives that need looking into - Steve Smith. In my opinion, Wendy Rogers is campaigning hard and fair, just like she should. Wendy will represent us just as hard, just as fair, voting solidly in favor of the Trump agenda—unlike the RINOs currently serving, like Paul Ryan. From my perspective, the question of who to vote for comes down to this. The RINO message is contradictory, “We RINOS-IN-CHARGE can play downright ‘meanball’, but for conservatives, even regular hardball isn’t allowed.” My take: Smith’s campaign realized Wendy is winning, and felt they needed the biggest guns possible to counter Wendy’s bold and courageous campaign. Look at the strength of this woman, this Lt. Colonel! She’s the real deal. As they used to say in the pioneer days, this is a woman “…to ride the river with” --_a phrase pioneers used for someone of uncommon courage and faithfulness, someone you could count on, even at the worst of times. That phrase certainly does not apply to elected officials who are easily convinced, cajoled, or threatened into saying something nasty about a true conservative. I Personally Salute Wendy Rogers For Raising Serious--And I Believe Justifiable--Concerns About Candidate Steve Smith. If I Lived In CD1, I’d Vote For The Fearless, Forthright, Unswerving Wendy Rogers, Hands Down!

Teresa Mandoza RespondsTo Rick Hennessey On Kelli Ward Karaoke Video: I was not going to reply but Rick brought up the Kareoke video AGAIN! Rick needs to stop whining about people not going to his Facebook page to see proof of Kelli at a "swingers" bar rapping to one of the best Rap songs by Grand Master Flash "The Message." If he wanted us to go to his Facebook page he may want to list his Facebook name, Richard Henessey II so we can find it. Also he may want to explain why his comments section is disabled on his post about said video of Kelli Ward.  Much like the Arpaio campaign and all his surrogates, Richard probably disabled his comments sections because he got tired of deleting FB post from the OWNERS of the karaoke bar Dr. Ward was at -- that states that it is not a swingers club, its a local PUB, was there with family and had one glass of wine.  The owner Jared Pennington had to use an old account to re-post the truth because all of Joe's surrogates and a couple FB sites they opened to post video, deleted and blocked them and eventually disabled comments defending Kelli and saying positive things about her.  I can tell you that this video even won my 19 year old over.  Message to Arpaio’s people: This Video Is Not Good Oppo It’s Marketing For Kelli Ward. Thanks. I loved Arpaio and donated to his campaign for Sheriff and his legal defense but the people he is letting run his campaign have ruined his reputation and he has no platform. Shame on him and his surrogates.

Pub owner Jared Pennington’s Facebook post - “I am the owner of that establishment that they deleted and blocked for simply telling the truth about Kelli Ward and my business. … I’ll say it again, Kelli Ward is a wonderful person. She had one glass of red wine for those who are curious. She is one of the most hard working people I have ever met and she got a minute to relax at a local pub, not a ‘swinger’s bar’ … give me a break. Anyone in this town knows it’s a Cheers like place where everyone is respected and treated like family. She is having fun and singing a classic song that people still dance to 35 years later. She was having fun and everyone enjoys when she has a minute to come in and say hi. This video shows only that she is fun, down to earth, and honestly cool person. Who wants a robot in office? Not me. I want a person that is real and opened minded and that’s Kelli Ward. Shame on the page host for blocking me and not allowing (me) to comment. I had to use my old account from ages ago, and I did it just to tell people the truth. Here is a picture of Kelli and her husband – who is a hero of mine for his service to this country. Yes, the same bar they called a ‘swingers’ come on… please screenshot this everyone and post when they block me again. (Briefs is temporarily unable to post photos. – ft.)

McCain Puppet Jonathan Lines: What Is He Hiding?

Disgraceful leadership of the Republican Party at the State and County levels could cost Republicans dearly in the upcoming election. Democrats are poised to take several Statewide seats away from Republicans including the Governors office if Ducey wins the primary. Although we could argue Democrats already hold both Senate seats, an actual honestly registered Democrat could win one of the seats. Why and how did this happen? Arizona Republican Party Chairman Jonathan Lines might be a good family man and reportedly a good businessman. What he is not good at is bringing the state Republican Party together. Being a John McCain puppet will do that to a person. RINOs like him; the conservative base does not trust him. Lines has done nothing to bridge the ideological and integrity gap between the McCain and conservative factions of the Party. It’s gotten worse.

Conservative Gabby Mercer, elected as state party secretary in January 2017, resigned last month (July) after 18 months on the job, saying she was “just the secretary in name only.” Mercer was not allowed to do the job she was elected to do. Lines did not give her access to anything. What is he hiding? Who is he protecting? All meeting minutes and records of income and expenses need to be made easily accessible to all party members. It should all be on the state party website. It’s not. Why not?

This shouldn’t be how the state Republican Party operates. But with McCain operatives running the show that’s what’s happening. State Party Treasurer Bob Lettieri is also treated like trash. He was required to sign a non-disclosure agreement--the first time ever--before Lines would give him access to the records. Lines was the treasurer before moving up to the chairman’s slot. That money belongs to party members--not to the party leadership. Transparency is the order of the day, every day. All financial records need to be on the state party website. They are not. Why not? Who is really to blame? Other than McCain and his kitchen cabinet sycophants, all Republicans are to blame because they allowed it to happen. Conservatives got lazy and got outmaneuvered by the big-money-backed McCainiacs, putting more precinct committeemen in place to control the outcome of county and state party leadership. It’s time to take back the party and destroy McCain’s arrogant, controlling legacy. Any gardener knows the best way to grow a tree is proper pruning by getting rid of the branches that are destroying the plant.

Is it any different at Maricopa County Republican Party headquarters next door? No, except maybe worse. County Chairman Chris Herring, a McCain puppet, appointed well-known troublemaker and fellow McCainiac Lisa Gray as Executive Director. (Gray worked for a short time on former State Treasurer Jeff DeWitt’s campaign; but he fired her for insubordination. She had nothing to do with his win.) Herring also appointed the infamous vote harvester and another uber McCainiac Kathy Petsas as Parliamentarian. None of this is good to grow the party.

One of the main problems facing the AZGOP is lack of growth. While Donald Trump is kicking butt and taking names and expanding the reach and influence of the GOP across the nation at the grassroots level, the AZGOP is limping along. They should be outpacing the new Democratic-Socialist Party by leaps and bounds. They are not. The infighting isn’t pretty. The RINO McCainiacs whine and complain that conservatives are the cause of the discord. But like the new Democratic-Socialists, they are the ones that throw the first punch with their Trump-hatred and intolerance of all things conservative, then cry when they’re punched back. The 2018 election cycle could be precarious for Arizona Republicans. Conservatives need to step up and vote and get their friends and neighbors to vote or they could lose the Governor’s seat, and/or the Secretary of State’s seat, and/or a U.S. Senate seat; not to mention other state and local seats. Then come January 2019, they need to throw out the McCainiacs and turn Arizona a bright and true Red. - J. Madison

AZ Corporation Commission Jim O'Connor interview on Van's Crossroads

CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: Let's not forget WHY we are fighting. Some of my Republican competitors would say that it's important that THEY get ahead.... that it's about THEIR political career.
But you know, every so often we see something in the news that reminds us that we are fighting for the very soul of our country. That the crusade that President Trump and others inspired by him- like me- are on, is so crucial to the future of our country. Yesterday, New York liberal Democrat governor Andrew Cuomo made the comment that "America was never that great".  I'm old enough to remember his father, also a Governor of New York, Mario Cuomo. Though also a liberal, the elder Cuomo always believed in the greatness of America. So what happened? Look at today's liberals; you look at Andrew Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Tom O'Halleran..... none of them think America is any great shakes. They have gone off the rails.
Friend, THIS is why we are fighting. We need to remind the younger generations that America IS exceptional. We have to believe in American exceptionalism- because other countries only dream of the things we accomplish.  O'Halleran thinks that America isn't that great- and that government can help make it better. I think the greatness of America is in its people- that's what already has made us great. I think putting America First will absolutely "Make America Great Again". President Trump is doing a great job- and that's why I endorsed him and did a rally for him in the primary.
If you want to beat the Democrats, and "Make America Great Again",
I can use your help! We need to show Andrew Cuomo, Tom O'Halleran, and the DC Swamp that America IS great- BECAUSE of the great job that President Trump is doing. To do that, I need your help urgently- there isn't a moment to spare.
This is a Trump district. This is a patriotic district, an America-First district, and O’Halleran is in trouble.
He stands with Andrew Cuomo. He stands with the Swamp. I stand with you!
Will you contribute today?
