A segment on the Arizona Senate Race was highlighted on Shannon Bream’s FOX News ALERT last night. Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio was highlighted in a discussion as to why is he is running and efforts to get him to bow out of the race. Arpaio told a group in Wickenburg a few weeks ago that Carl Hayden served until was 91 and Arpaio doesn’t see any reason he can’t do the same thing..

Arizona Survivors Of The Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting are encouraged to apply to the Nevada Victims of Crime Program to help pay for current or future out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the tragedy. The deadline to apply is October 1, 2018. According to Nevada officials, 595 Arizonans bought tickets to the Route 91 Harvest Festival last year. So far, only 82 people from Arizona have applied for victim’s benefits, the majority from Maricopa and Mohave counties. The State of Nevada is continuing itsr national outreach effort to ensure that everyone in attendance knows how to apply to the Nevada Victims of Crime Program to help pay for expenses. Driver Behavior Continues To Be The Leading Factor In Traffic Fatalities. A thousand (1,000) died needlessly on Arizona’s city, county, state and reservation roadways in 2017. Traffic deaths in Arizona rose for the third straight year. Again, impairment, speeding and reckless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt are leading factors in traffic fatalities. Alcohol, prescription medication or illegal drugs played a role in 43% of traffic deaths in Arizona last year.See 2017 Motor Vehicle Crash Facts report or azdot.gov/CrashFacts..
NOTES FROM READERS
Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does NOT endorse pre-primary candidates. Comments running over 400 words are subject to editing. - ft.
Zack Taylor - Chairman of the Santa Cruz County Arizona Republican Committee for over a decade: During interactions with political figures and candidates I become aware of salient characteristics of candidates that most of the citizenry remain unaware of. As a responsible citizen I believe there are some things the voter needs to know about candidates, in this case Republican Candidates, for National Office in the 2018 mid-term elections.
Sergio Arellano is running for Congress in Congressional District 3. I have extensive problems with his candidacy and strongly advise that any representation or statement he makes should be thoroughly vetted before being accepted. To run as a Republican, questions related to timely support payments to his two former wives and four children are reasonable. Questions regarding former activities in Santa Cruz County he engaged in where he untruthfully claimed to be the County Republican Chairman or finding voter fraud in Santa Cruz County elections should be based on the record, not his statements.
Martha McSally is running for the United States Senate as a Republicanto fill retiring Senator Jeff Flake's seat. Her voting history as a Congresswoman is already a matter of record so I will leave that up to the voter to decide upon. However, I do have reliable information from a Precinct Committeewoman and another from a Candidate Forum I attended where McSally was asked why she urged Republicans to vote for Ron Barber
a Democrat over Jesse Kelly a Republican in the special election to replace Gabrielle Giffords. At the Candidate Forum I saw and heard McSally deny she did that, yet, I know the Precinctcommitteewoman quite well and I anticipated the question. I believe the Precinctcommitteewoman is the one telling the truth. I did not know the other woman that raised the same question.
Lyle Tuttle, Former Maricopa County Republican Chairman, regarding Congresswoman Debbie Lesko’s “Last week, I introduced H.Res. 1026, a resolution recognizing Medicare and Social Security as important programs that must be protected for current enrollees and strengthened for the future. Social Security and Medicare are essential for senior citizens living on fixed incomes. Congress must fulfill its promise to our seniors. Click below to watch my video on my newest piece of legislation. See Debbie on HR 1026 As Frank Thorwald says, it's a PR stunt...and it seems she and her staff are too busy doing PR to respond to requests for information. TWICE now, I have emailed, asking for more information on the proposed tariffs, but CRICKETS are all I hear...SAD.
Yavapai County State Committeeman Rose Sperry: Neither David Schweikert nor Martha McSally will get any conservative traction from the disingenuous campaign advertisement in which they appear together. According to an AZ Republic article dated June 14th, that campaign video was created by a group tied to Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove. Reps-Martha-Mcsally, David-Schweikert-Get-Help-From One-Nation-Group-Tied-To Mitch-McConnell, Carl-Rove In my opinion, that ad was made to help McSally, and Schweikert was window dressing—there to support McSally’s campaign for the Senate and giving away the last remaining vestiges of his conservative bona fides, in the process. Lastly, this campaign ad may well become iconic, as a revival of the infamous McCain “Dang Fence” series of videos that saw him re-elected for another 6 years. Apparently, McConnell and Rove have run out of creativity. Do they really believe the people of Arizona are such sheep that they’re going to believe that "Dang Fence" thing, again? One more word about McSally. She is part of what is, in my view, a RINO voting block in Congress, a bloc that is referred to by its founder as “the governing wing of the Republican Party.” One would have to ask what that means, exactly, but my take on it is that we, the conservatives who carry forth the values of the Founders, are certainly not part of it. But McSally IS part of it, in my opinion. The so-called “governing wing,” that is—as are McConnell and Rove--and, I guess Schweikert has now joined? Are you ready to have a senator who is a "governing wing" kind of person and a member of the “governing wing” voting bloc? In McSally, you already have a congresswoman who dodged and weaved so well, when confronted with leadership’s failure to fund the border wall, that Lou Dobbs—thoroughly exasperated--finally said, “You’re not seriously going to do that, [dodging and weaving] are you?... I really need you just to tell us the truth…you can’t just talk over me… Just answer the question!” You can get the full earful at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GIgSsokmw8 Now, is that the kind of senator you want? And, kind of on the same subject, I just remembered, again, that David Schweikert is helping McSally with her campaign ad… Oh.
Marianne Ferrari, LD20 PC and State Committeeman-- Is Activist Chris Brant a RINO? Me thinks he protests too much in his response to Teresa Mendoza’s excellent commentary 7-29-18 Briefs and mine 7-30-18 Briefs both of which called out David Schweikert for his dalliance with Martha McSally in what, for me, was a cringe-inducing campaign ad. I don’t know Chris Brant, but, as I read his post, the day after mine, I said to myself, “Now there’s a RINO!” When I finished reading Chris’s post, I realized something: It’s about time that we conservatives start calling out “RINO-speak” every single time we hear it. The way RINOs speak betrays them every time, I’ve found. Here’s how I see Chris having betrayed himself in his post, which I see as intended to discredit Teresa’s and my words: 1) In what I see as the typical RINO way of legitimizing themselves, before speaking, Chris began his post by letting us know he’s a legal immigrant who loves America and joined the GOP on becoming a citizen--a long time ago. 2) Just like leftists, RINOs always name call and overkill quite liberally. If you call them a name, they call you three or four names in return. Hence, because I’d mentioned RINOs negatively, Chris apparently saw Teresa’s and my words as “blanket statements terming everyone you don’t agree with as a RINO.” Then, he followed up with “HYPPOS,” “hypocrites,” “holier than thou,” and “namecallers”--and that’s four, as I said. 3) RINOs have a favorite phrase for stopping conservatives dead in their tracks, everytime we get uppity. They always drag out Reagan’s comment about “not speaking ill of fellow Republicans.” However, I must point out that this comment has been misused every time! Why? Because, when conservatives complain about RINO domination, it’s never aimed at Republicans. It’s aimed at fake Republicans—the actual meaning of the term “Republicans-in-Name-Only,” or “RINOS,” for short. As for McCain and McSally, Chris is right that the two aren’t that similar--except in terms of what I think of as their “RINO mentality,” regarding which I see not a hairsbreadth of space between them. And it is a truism, to be sure, that military service--like any other line of work--does not necessarily make for either a good congressman or senator—a point to which legions of Arizona voters can bear witness, in spades.
Zack Taylor: Chairman and Border Security Expert and National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers: A Horrible Immigration Proposal- As Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee Congressman Kevin Yoder (R-CD3) Kansas, voted for and passed out of committee by voice vote (hide how committee members voted) an amendment to the 2019 Budget a provision that promises to encourage more illegal immigration in the short term and promote the idea that legislation facilitating massive Immigration Fraud is O.K. with Congress. House-Panel-Pushes-Back-Against-Trump-Asylum-Rule-On-Domestic-Gang-Violence In so doing these Congressmen consecrated an amendment penned by Congressman David Price (D-NCCD4) legitimizing an extralegal policy from the 2014 Obama Illegal Immigration surge that unlawfully granted asylum to aliens who claim domestic violence and the excuses for voting for and forwarding the legislation completely ignores the National Security and Public Safety of the American People and promotes more lawlessness. There is no way to sugar coat or speak calmly about this proposal. This is a sneak affront to legal immigration and a bold move to institute complete and total open borders in the United States and must be defeated soundly.
Activist Rachel Alexander: After Arizona Senator Jeff Flake announced he was not running for reelection to the U.S. Senate, three prominent candidates entered the race. One is conservative Kelli Ward, a former state legislator who ran unsuccessfully for Senate against John McCain. A second candidate is former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who many do not believe is a serious candidate at age 86. The third well-known candidate in the race is Rep. Martha McSally, a liberal Republican who represents a Democratic leaning district in Arizona. The Arizona Daily Independent reports that John McCain is pushing her candidacy.
Ward appeared to be leading in the race until Arpaio jumped in. Now, the conservative base is split between Ward and Arpaio loyalists, giving McSally the lead. Arpaio is in third place. McSally is averaging 10 points ahead of Ward. Some Ward supporters are urging Arpaio to drop out of the race, but so far he has not. According to One News Now, "If Arpaio were removed from the equation, it's likely that Ward could defeat McSally in the August 28 primary." Arizona conservatives are tired of liberal Republicans representing them in the Senate. The state is still fairly conservative, unlike a state such as Maine which has liberal Republican Senator Susan Collins. Arizona would be better represented by a solid conservative.
McSally has a poor record in Congress as one of the more liberal Republicans in Congress. The American Conservative Union rates her voting record as less conservative than McCain and Flake. Yet she is now pretending to be a conservative, talking tough on immigration. This is not accurate. She helped craft a bill that would have provided renewable status for Dreamers. Ward opposed it. McSally said she supports DACA legislation along with border security. She said, "I have also consistently shown – with my votes, words and actions – that I am willing to support a legislative solution for the DACA population." Tellingly, her campaign website doesn't appear to contain her positions on issues. Ward's website does. Blog for Arizona, a popular Democratic blog in Arizona, observes, the "Left and Right agree: Martha McSally is a fraudulent candidate." McSally's record as a pilot in the Air Force has been called into question by former colleagues. The James T. Harris Show interviewed Lt. Col. retired Tom-Chuck Norris about McSally's experience with the A-10 aircraft. See rest of message at Conservatives Dreading a Martha McSally Senate Win in Arizona
Former AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey: When Steven Seagal and I wrote "The Way Of The Shadow Wolves" there was one degree of separation between fact and fiction. And now here is another example of our fictional novel turning into fact with the extradition from Mexico of Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes who is charged with the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry with a weapon from the ‘Fast and Furious’ operation. All of this has to do with the gun running case, gone wrong, very wrong, known as "Fast and Furious". What we spelled out while writing our book almost two years ago, has now, once again come to pass, joining the massacre on the Las Vegas Strip and the massive corruption within the FBI. he way the fiction in Shadow Wolves is turning into fact is beginning to become eerie and I hope that none of the other attacks contained in that fictional storyline come to pass because they would be devastating for our country. Much of what is going on today rests in the shadowy hands of the Deep State which runs rampant throughout our government agencies and in the private sector. Our novel has made us a few powerful enemies because we have taken a page from the Left and used their technique of playing on the emotions of the readers to bend them emotionally toward their philosophy. This has skewed the thinking of generations of Americans, making good guys come off as bad guys and vice versa. Our approach and that of other conservative creative writers, is where the bad guys are portrayed as bad guys no matter what badge they carry, is beginning to take hold and may one day level the playing field and bring balance back to creative media. Until then we will continue writing fiction based on fact in the hope that the message will be received and accepted. Some Easy Calls, One Troublesome, In Metro-Phoenix
Looking at Districts 8, 13, 15, 22, and 23 Recommendations in BOLD. These five districts in and around metro-Phoenix tend to be dominated by Republicans and lean mostly conservative. None of these districts have any viable Democrat candidates so we’ll concentrate on the Republican races. In District 8, Frank Pratt is running unopposed for re-election to the Senate. Mr. Pratt sides with conservatives just enough to keep him interesting, but too often joins RINOs, making him unpredictable. On the House side, TJ Shope is running for re-election. Mr. Shope seems to be having a bro-mance with Post Turtle JD Mesnard. Patriot-warrior DAVID COOK is also running for re-election and deserves your support.
One of the more interesting races is in District 13. Former House Appropriations Chair DON SHOOTER, who was unceremoniously thrown out of office in February, is leading in the polls for the Senate seat. Mr. Shooter’s voting record is certain evidence of his patriot-warrior status. Much of the nonsense surrounding his ouster is being exposed in his lawsuit against Speaker of the House, and resident Post Turtle, JD Mesnard (to be covered in a future commentary). Incumbent Senator Sine Kerr is a patriot and hopefully will find some place else to serve. On the House side, incumbent DARIN MITCHELL is a patriot and is one of two leading contenders for Speaker. TREY TERRY, a U.S. Army combat veteran, is running with Mr. Mitchell as a team. Incumbent House member Tim Dunn was appointed to replace Mr. Shooter. Mr. Dunn has been a big disappointment carrying water for ATRA.
In District 15 patriot NANCY BARTO is termed out of the Senate and is running for the House, and House Majority Leader JOHN ALLEN is running for re-election. RINO Heather Carter is running to replace Ms. Barto in the Senate. Sadly, Ms. Carter has a very good chance of winning, shoring up the Senate’s RINO Caucus.
Current House Appropriations Chair and patriot DAVID LIVINGSTON is running for the District 22 Senate seat being vacated by uber patriot-warrior Judy Burgess, who is retiring after years of distinguished service. If someone other than Mr. Livingston was running, perennial candidate Clair Van Steenwyk would be recommended. He’s a solid conservative-leaning libertarian and would add a sense of entertainment to the Capitol we haven’t experienced in years. On the House side, BEN TOMA is a patriot and deserves re-election. FRANK CARROLL, running as a team with Mr. Livingston and Mr. Toma, is also recommended.
District 23 is troublesome. Michelle Ugenti-Rita, currently in the House, is running for the Senate. She has an eight-year record of conservative voting (except, among a few other things, for holding the Elderly Assistance bill in committee in 2017, killing it). What’s troublesome is her personal values (or lack thereof) that have become public, including her self-serving, hypocritical involvement in the ouster of Don Shooter, while carrying on an adulterous affair with a House Deputy Chief of Staff. There is still way too much information not made public, but most likely will be because of Mr. Shooter’s lawsuit, to recommend Ms. Ugenti-Rita. (She does come from the world of bartending, where her talents seem more appropriate.) The other “stuff” is difficult to put aside and should she win, it may lead to her being ousted herself. Former Director of the State’s Department of Economic Security, TIM JEFFRIES, is also running for the Senate in District 23. Mr. Jeffries has the potential to be a solid patriot-warrior for years to come. He stood up to Gov Ducey in cutting dead wood out of DES and not backing down when pressured to stop. For his good work he was “relieved” of his position. Businesswoman and educator, Kristina Kelly, is also running for that Senate seat. Everything we’ve heard so far of Ms. Kelly is promising and, if true, we hope she continues to look for ways to serve. Current Senator JOHN KAVANAGH, a patriot, and fellow patriot Jay Lawrence are running for the House in District 23. – S. Adams

Arizona Corporation Commission candidate James ‘Jim’ O’Connor: The 2018 Primary Election is upon us. August 1st those of us on the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL), and that is approximately 75% of all registered voters in AZ, begin receiving our ballots via USPO mail. The remaining 25% of us will vote at our polling location on Election Day, August 28th. Looking back at past elections, it is anticipated that fewer than 35% of registered voters will determine the winner of these Primary races. That means that those of us who do cast a vote enjoy a three to one advantage over those who do not vote. So, one way to look at it that for those voting, your votes count three times. My attempt here is to motivate you, your family and friends to get out and vote for me and for other candidates of your choosing. For each of you who are willing to do a little more to get us elected, I ask that you communicate your choices for those races of interest to as wide a circle of voters as your credibility extends. This word of mouth sharing is viewed by campaign experts as more powerful than political endorsements. When mentioning my name as your choice for AZ Corporation Commission, please note my website: WWW.OCONNORAZ.COM. That way the recipients of your email will be able to conveniently look me up and watch you-tube videos of my plans and goals for the Commission. Thank you for your participation with me and most importantly your continuing prayers on my behalf.
CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: About 7 months ago, we began my campaign to take back CD1 from the Democrats. I campaign to defend the Constitution, put America First, and give President Trump some backup. The Swamp, Deep State, Fake News, and Democrats collude to undermine President Trump, his agenda, and my campaign for Congress. We have meet with thousands of patriots who support our conservative "America First" message. People tell me "Wendy we are with you." I am not a career politician. I am a retired Air Force Lt. Col. with a family and started a small business. I saw what President Obama was doing to America. I love America. I love our Constitution and what President Trump is doing. I have leadership experience in the real world.
My campaign had more cash on hand last quarter than any other Republican in this race. My Facebook is five times the size of Democrat Tom O'Halleran's and is nine times the size of my closest Republican opponent. I have the support of groups such as Tea Party Nation, Courageous Conservatives, Stand with POTUS, Americans for Legal Immigration, pro-Trump Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. I am a lifetime member of the NRA, Gun Owners of America, and Arizona Citizens Defense League. I am leading the Republican field by almost 10 points in three recent polls over the last two weeks. I have made over 5 trips to the Navajo Nation in the last month and developing relationships with the Navajo people. They like that I am a military veteran and a grandmother; two characteristics highly respected there. I fly my own airplane and I can fly from Casa Grande to Page, the Navajo Nation, Show Low, Safford, Flagstaff, Oro Valley in 2 days. I enjoy talking to voters. Halleron sends his staffers to do "mobile offices" on our taxpayer's dime, and then sys he's been to all these towns.
I am the ONLY candidate in this race - on both sides of the aisle - who endorsed President Trump in the primaries and helped hold a rally for him. I don't have to pretend to be supportive of the president; I supported him when it counted. My platform is simple - build the wall, end sanctuary cities, defund Planned Parenthood, take care of our veterans, rebuild our military, defend the 2nd Amendment, cut spending, and support the America First agenda! The control of the House of Representatives could depend on our campaign alone.. We need to win. I can't do this without you. I ask you to contact all of your family and friends to vote for Wendy Rogers.
US Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: we need help getting our latest radio spots on air starting this week. Will you help out? Chip in We cut a few brand new spots and it's critical we get them on the air ASAP -- especially with voting beginning this week! Here's one of them for you to review... it's called "Trusted": Click here to listen. We're rooting for our grassroots supporters to help us air spots like "Trusted" far and wide, and we're looking to get them on as many stations as we can.
Gov Doug Ducey: We wanted you to be the first to see our first TV ad, titled “Results.” The ad highlights how far Arizona has come in the last three years, like adding 240,000 jobs and investing $2.7 billion into K-12 education, as well as the work ahead. Four years ago, Arizona was $1 billion in the red. School funding was flat after years of cuts. Today, the budget is balanced. 240,000 new jobs created. $2.7 billion in new spending for schools, plus a 20% teacher pay raise. And with the Border Strike Force, our border is more secure. It took an outsider, a businessman — not afraid to shake things up. There's more to do, but Doug Ducey is getting results. Doug Ducey: Securing Arizona's Future. Help us share our new TV ad! Please share the video on Facebook, or forward this email to your friends and family. – Team Ducey
US Senate candidate Kelli Ward: With the primary election now less than a month away, it's crucial we keep up our momentum to defeat Martha "McAmnesty" McSally. McSally, like Flake, is a “campaign conservative” #NeverTrumper running to serve the D.C. Swamp.Despite her recent rhetoric, McSally can't be trusted to stand with President Trump to advance the America First agenda. That's why our winning team is looking for supporters right now to help us send our strongest fundraising report yet. Can we put you down for a special end-of-month contribution? contribute. Your support right now is so important -- every dollar you generously contribute provides our team with the resources to continue rolling out our historic campaign. We're showing McSally and her big Establishment donors the power of the grassroots!
ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENT
Congressman Biggs on Ninth Circuit's Sanctuary Cities Funding Ruling The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against President Trump’s 2017 executive order that withholds federal funds from certain U.S. cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration laws, remanding the case to the lower courts for further consideration. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:“The Ninth Circuit continues its assault on the Constitutional structure of three equal branches of government with this decision. Congress, those closest to the people, are tasked with writing legislation and the President is charged with enforcing America’s laws. The judicial branch is tasked with applying the law as it is written in the Constitution and the statutes. Judges should not let their political views guide their decision-making. Cities, counties, and states that disregard our laws hold the Constitution in contempt, and the Executive Branch is justified in taking action to enforce the laws. President Trump was right to demand adherence to immigration enforcement laws. Jurisdictions seeking to shield themselves from these laws put their citizens at risk. I hope the U.S. Supreme Court will soon grant certiorari for this case and overturn this ruling.”
