Arizona Game and Fish advises that the monsoon moisture brings increased exposure to insect-borne diseases. Weather forecasts are showing that a resurgence of Arizona’s monsoon is on the horizon and while badly needed moisture may be on the increase, so will the possibility of insect-borne diseases that can impact people, pets and wildlife. Earlier this month a dead prairie dog tested positive for plague in Coconino County and Maricopa County Vector Control officials detected West Nile and St. Louis encephalitis viruses in mosquito pools. Another disease not uncommon during summer months is tularemia, an infection that can be transmitted to humans. “These diseases can have a devastating impact on Arizona’s wildlife, causing die-offs in rabbits, rodents, squirrels and prairie dogs,” said Anne Justice-Allen, AGFD wildlife veterinarian. Arizona Treasurer Eileen I. Klein announced yesterday the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund (PLETF) hit another all-time daily high in market value at $6.069 Billion at yesterday’s market closing. This number exceeds the previous all-time daily high hit January 26, 2018 of $6.055 Billion. This second milestone in 2018 underscores how the PLETF’s investment strategy continues to succeed for Arizona public schools. “Some of this growth is from a strong market, but much of the credit for this achievement goes to sound investment policy and the stewardship of our Treasury portfolio managers,” Klein said. “This new milestone is the result of a team effort to maximize value for Endowment beneficiaries, especially K-12 education”. For fiscal year 2018 (ending June 30), the market value of the PLETF increased 5.27% over FY 2017. Click for a chart of PLETF market value growth over the past 22 years through June 30, 2018. “We believe our investment policy and asset allocation strategy puts the Treasury in a solid position to continue growing the Endowment’s value to benefit future generations,” Klein said. Proceeds from Trust Land sales are deposited in the PLETF for the Treasurer to invest (60/40 stocks to fixed income in safe U.S.-based investments). The Treasury is required to make monthly distributions to 13 separate beneficiaries based on a 5-year market value formula with the majority (approximately 93%) going to Arizona public schools. Director of Endowments, Tim White, has been with the Treasury for more than a quarter century.

Former Maricopa County Republican Chairman Lyle Tuttle: In about May of this year, one of our suppliers announced that 'due to the upcoming tariffs' they were raising their prices on products we purchase from them. We watched and waited. In late June or early July, I emailed Congressman Debbie Lesko's Washington office for a listing of the tariffs, proposed or in place. I wanted to know if the proposed price increases imposed on us were from tariffs or anti-Trump Greed. I have now emailed Lesko's office TWICE for the 'official list' of proposed or enacted tariffs with ZERO RESPONSE. I consider my request to be a simple one, and am amazed at the lack of any response other than an auto-reply. Debbie Lesko, we have known each other for years, but it is clear to me that you have changed - and not in a good way. Your use (LEASE???) of the AZGOP office (and more) in Sun City West shows tremendous unethical bias by the AZGOP; your financial and personal endorsements by Senators McCain and Flake present a clear picture to anyone who cares to look as evidence that you have morphed from a conservative into a RINO, and for that I am truly sorry. My personal observation is that you want to be a Congresswoman MORE than you want to represent your constituently. Arizona Republicans who SERIOUSLY follow politics know that the AZGOP was led down the path to "RHINO-ISM", but you, Debbie???? It is for these reasons that I am supporting Sandra Dowling for CD-8 Congress, and I encourage others to pay heed and do the same.

Activist Nancy Plencner: Tuesday it was astounding to watch the Republican in the 12th Congressional District of Ohio almost lose and we won't know the final outcome for two weeks.  This should be a wake up call to to every single Republican across the country.  Whether it was lethargy or complacency in Ohio on Tuesday, Republican turnout was not what it should have been given Trump's rally there and personal appeal to voters.  And make no mistake fellow Republicans, the other party is motivated, geared up, well funded, supported by the left leaning media and ready to storm the castle with eager, young, Socialist candidates. Their focus of attack is the House of Representatives as they gleefully predict a Blue Wave coming.  Don't assume your friends, family, neighbors, relatives and those out of state are aware of the importance of their vote.  Two solid Republican friends of mine who summer with us in Pinetop did not have a clue that their Primary ballots would not be forwarded to them in the mountains, potential of four lost votes! And so it goes with most busy Americans who do not spend a lot of time thinking about politics.  So today, make it your personal goal to communicate with everyone you can about the importance of this election, both Primary and General.  I'm not convinced our Party at the State and Federal level is doing an effective GOTV effort; therefore all Republicans must make a personal commitment to repeat what we did in 2016 to elect Trump. That is, turn out in astounding, breathtaking, overwhelming numbers.  Our President is doing more than his share to rally and motivate Republicans but without our landslide Primary and General election support, this fearless, magnificent President and his MAGA agenda could become just a short interesting footnote in history! Communicate everyday, however and wherever you can!

LD20 Senate candidate Charles Loftus’ brother Duane writes: Charlie Loftus is a Life member of the NRA.  He is a former police firearms instructor, civilian concealed carry instructor and had his FFL and Class 3 licenses.  Yet his opponent claims to have the NRA endorsement which is presented in logo form on the website. We checked with the NRA and were told by them that the only person the NRA has endorsed in the Primary is Debbie Lesko.  Charlie Loftus spent many years investigating deception, fraud and corruption while he was the assistant chief and special agent at the Arizona Attorney General's office.  And, as a Ph.D. and ASU instructor, he takes classes to the epicenter of terrorism (Israel) to teach the "next generation of protectors" about counter-terrorism, and associated issues.  These classes are made up of young students in criminal justice, seasoned police officers and military.  He's done it for 11 years now. He's a strong supporter of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and your rights.  One of his quotes is, "I will never concede your rights or concede any states' rights especially to the Liberal/Socialist-controlled areas of the country."  This was made in response to his opponent's vote to give away your rights in the National Popular Vote. Isn't it time to put a person out there to represent us and fight for us who is NOT a political insider?

AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines: “The recent frivolous complaint filed by Fran Noe is without merit. I take my oath of office seriously and work every day to make sure our Party is as strong as possible. That’s why I agreed to rent office space to Congresswoman Lesko’s campaign. That’s right, RENT. The campaign pays for the space they use.  Even more importantly, Congresswoman Lesko’s staff is recruiting and working with volunteers and that helps all Republicans. The truth is that Fran filed this baseless action because she supports Congresswoman Lesko’s opponent. That is her right, but her allegations are completely false and wrong, and she should apologize.”

LD21 Senate candidate Randy Miller: I posed a question to Congresswoman Debbie Lesko on July 31st about our immigration law. I explained that immigration policy was a hot issue in Washington and it is going to be brought up for her to deal with. I asked if she supported changes to our immigration laws and if so, which ones she believes should be changed and why. Her reply: "Look at my bill". Well, "her bill" which is nothing more than what was proposed by the president she and others put to paper, is the elimination of the "lottery system". I am searching, and still haven't found a "lottery system" as part of our immigration laws. So, is this a behind the scenes practice started without legislation? If so, why do we need legislation to stop something that isn't law to begin with? Please show me where this is a legal practice anyway.

I also asked what was the title of our immigration law and when was it written.  She needs to know this to answer my first question.  You can’t fix what you don’t know. She didn’t answer, just said “look at my bill”.  It's the McCarin Walter Act from 1952. And guess what, during my search, I found an interesting thing. Title II (Immigration), section 202 (a) (3) says: "An alien born in the United States shall be considered born in the country of which he is a citizen or subject, or if he is not a citizen or subject of any country then in the last foreign country in which he had his residence as determined by the consular officer;"

So, unless this changed, which I haven't found, our practice of granting a birth certificate of citizenship to "anchor baby's" is a violation of our immigration laws. Hmmm, Republican/Democrat...who's to blame? All of them I guess. And us too, for not paying attention and putting too much trust in the practice of corruption and/or ignorance we see every day. So, who is issuing "birth certificates" to alien persons? Is it the county of which the hospital is located? If so, this too is not in accordance to law, it should be handed over to the proper federal agency legally charged with making the determination. I am guessing a good start would by the local U.S. Consular's office. If I'm wrong please inform us, we need to get this right.

Former Board Patrol Officer/Activist Zack Taylor: An Iraqi refugee who committed endless crimes was never deported thanks to a growing trend of courts blocking deportation of criminal aliens. This one was supported by Gorsuch and is very consequential.  Gorsuch's dangerous immigration ruling claims a victim gorsuchs-dangerous-immigration-ruling-claims-a-victim

Steve Christy, Pima County District 4 Supervisor, announces support of Arizona CD3 Republican candidate Sergio Arellano: “Having worked closely with Sergio, I have full confidence in his ability to get the job done on behalf of the people of Arizona's Congressional District 3. I was proud to have him on my staff as the liaison to my constituents in Green Valley and Sahuarita, Arizona. Sergio has a broad understanding of the unique pressures on small businesses and employers. He recognizes the need for sound infrastructure and its role in economic development. Sergio possesses the ability to work with competing interests to arrive at solutions that serve the community as a whole. I am delighted to support Sergio Arellano. He has the heart of a true public servant, which we need in Washington, D.C."

Activist Chris Brant: You’ve probably seen the advert that is running on TV that is a complete lie about Martha McSally voting record stating she voted to increase medical costs for those over 50, the local stations have taken their "30 pieces of silver". It would be refreshing if just one of the local TV anchors would expose these vile advertising lies. Here are the facts: See us-rep-mcsally-introduces-bill-protect-az-seniors-middle-class

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Secretary of State Candidate Steve Gaynor responds to SOS Michele Reagan 8-8-18-briefs :

· Myth: Michele Reagan had no responsibility for the long lines in the Presidential Preference Election. Fact: Here is a direct quote from a report written by a Republican business analyst hired by Maricopa County to analyze the March 2016 election: “The primary blame for the 2016 PPE should be placed on the Administration of Secretary Reagan. She knew the election was underfunded. She knew a procedures manual had not been issued…Michele Reagan knowingly chose to not do her duty.”

· Myth: The Secretary of State is not obligated to produce an election procedures manual for each election. Fact: A.R.S. 16-452 B states: Such rules shall be prescribed in an official instructions and procedures manual to be issued not later than thirty days prior to each election…” I think any voter who can read plain English can decide for themselves what the law requires.

· Myth: Steve Gaynor has no employees in Arizona. Fact: I have employees in both Arizona and California. My Arizona employees had a good laugh about this one!

· Myth: Michele Reagan signed a Consent Decree making it easier for illegal immigrants to vote. Fact: This “myth” is true. Ignore the doubletalk and focus on the main issue: Before the Consent Decree, when people submitted an Arizona voter registration form with no proof of citizenship, their application was rejected. After the Decree, people who submit an Arizona form without proof of citizenship are registered to vote in Federal elections, making it easier for illegal immigrants to vote! That is why I have pledged that if I am elected, I will do everything in my power to undo Reagan’s consent decree and restore A.R.S 16-166F, which states: The county recorder shall reject any application for registration that is not accompanied by satisfactory evidence of United States citizenship. The consent decree that Michele Reagan signed overturns this law.

You can read all the original documents at www.michelereaganfails.com. If you read nothing else, read this letter from a citizen lawyer to the Arizona legislature: http://www.michelereaganfails.com/benny-white-letter.pdf. Here is an excerpt: “The Secretary has violated the trust of Arizona voters and the oath she took to uphold and support Arizona laws by entering into this agreement. Its implementation will cause further violence to the Arizona Constitution and our election laws. It is questionable whether the Secretary has the legal authority to enter into an agreement that implements such sweeping changes to election law in direct violation of the will of the voters demonstrated by their approval of Proposition 200 in 2004.”

Rene Lopez, Chandler City Council candidate: I’d like to share with you another one of my video ads. In this video, titled “Fiscal,” I touch on some economic accomplishments serving on the City Council, such as fighting to lower property taxes every single year and working to reduce this year’s city operating budget. This ad is currently running on Facebook and I’d like to keep it up until Election Day on August 28 – only three weeks away! Whether you can contrribe, any amount will help me show this ad to registered voters all across the City of Chandler. Only three weeks to go in our campaign to keep Chandler one of the safest and best run cities in the U.S with continued fiscal responsibility and balanced growth! Editor’s Note: Lopez is currently serving as the Vice Mayor.

Supt of Public Instrucion Frank Riggs: In response to the item regarding Clair Van Steenwyk's survey of candidates on the National Popular Vote Compact (NPV), I wish to make clear I'm strongly opposed to that misguided proposal which was pushed in Arizona by a certain campaign consultant and lobbyist.  As someone who has taught civics at the middle school, high school and adult education levels, I regard NPV as an affront to the Constitution.  It would create a way around the Electoral College and the brilliant and enduring system of checks and balances designed by the Founding Fathers and Framers who were wary of direct, popular democracy.  I don't understand how the Republican supporters of NPV in the state legislature in 2016 explain their support in light of Gore v. Bush in 2000 but am thankful the proposal died in the State Senate.

US Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: The Ward for Senate campaign has launched MarthaMcFake.com, a brand-new information page that exposes Martha McSally and debunks her false claims to conservatism. "Martha McSally is no conservative," said Ward press secretary Zachery Henry. "It takes only a brief review of her voting record to discover this fact -- one that stands in contradiction to her many claims on the campaign trail. McSally has voted for amnesty multiple times, has refused to support a southern border wall, and has stood against the President's America First immigration proposals. Earlier this year, McSally boasted about how 'proud' she was for supporting the bloated, budget-busting omnibus bill, only to retract her statements following conservative outrage. But viewed in context, McSally's hasty assent to the outrageous $1.3 trillion spending bill came after her support of a very long line of debt-expanding legislation." MarthaMcFake.com highlights McSally's "double-dealing," offering an extensive chart of pre-campaign and post-campaign statements made by candidate McSally. The new information page offers more than a dozen facts regarding candidate McSally's flip-flops and two-faced positioning on and off the campaign trail. MarthaMcFake.com also reveals candidate McSally's Never-Trump roots and her longstanding opposition to President Donald Trump.

US Senate candidate Martha McSally: I'm not going to lie Friend... I'm stressed. We've made some good progress since yesterday, but we're still over $83,000 short of our goal. And now Kyrsten Sinema's Super PAC is attacking us in the primary because they know that they can beat the other two republicans. We need to fight back and make sure that the Democrats cannot influence our primary election! Please donate whatever you can afford. If everyone who opens this email gives even just $5, we can hit our goal. Pitch in    The time to step up is now. - Anthony Barry, Deputy Campaign Manager

US Senate candidate Martha McSally: Friend, I know you get a ton of emails from me, and I hope you're not bothered. You have to understand... the Democrat dark money I'm competing with in Arizona is out of control: Millions and millions of dollars are being spent on behalf of liberal activist Kyrsten Sinema (my Democrat opponent) in an attempt destroy my chances of victory in November and return control of the Senate to the Democrats. It makes sense why the Democrats are spending so much... it takes a lot of money to fake voters into believing an extreme liberal like Kyrsten Sinema is actually moderate. It takes a lot less to expose the truth. The only way I can fight back and defend my campaign is if grassroots supporters nation-wide pitch in to make sure we win in Arizona. You've heard it before, but I'm saying it again: Because Arizona is a must-win for the Democrats to gain back control in Washington, their spending limit doesn't exist. Well Friend, I'm tired of liberal politicians who have been bought and paid for by special interests and who view the world through a partisan lens instead of considering what's best for the Americans they are supposed to represent. Liberal money will only succeed in electing Sinema if we can't compete - and together my team and I have carefully come up with a budget that will do the job without having to spend frivolously like the Democrats. As long as we can reach our fundraising goal, we can execute the next phase of our campaign strategy... and we will not lose.

Gov Doug Ducey: I want you to see our new video - it's about Governor Doug Ducey's efforts to secure our border and stop the flow of drug cartels and human traffickers. Since 2015, Governor Ducey has led the way with strong border security — launching Arizona's Border Strike Force and deploying the Arizona National Guard to the border. Watch Border Strike Force

Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas today proudly announced that one quarter of educator certification renewals granted so far this year have been submitted online.  “I am very proud of both our Certification and IT departments for creating the AzEDCert Educator Portal,” Superintendent Douglas said. “This technology means that hardworking certified teachers and administrators no longer need to make the inconvenient trek to our office in Phoenix to renew their certifications. We need to do everything we can to ease the administrative burden we put on our educators, which is why I am so very proud of both the portal and how we have streamlined other certification processes.” Educator certification processing times for renewals have been cut in half this year due to new technology and improved administrative processes. Teachers who have a signed letter of intent from a traditional district or charter school authenticating their employment typically have their files evaluated within 72 hours, barring any background verification issues. In addition, if a teacher is applying for a reciprocal certification, an emergency teacher certification or an emergency substitute teacher certification, the teacher will receive immediate certification. The only conditions for immediate approval are that the teacher must apply in person at a certification window in Phoenix, as well as have the appropriate paperwork correctly completed. While there has been an increase in certification processing efficiency, there has also been a 28 percent increase in certification applications submitted over the previous fiscal year. The greatest increases in certifications have been in secondary education (59 percent), physical education (31 percent), elementary education (21 percent) and arts education (20 percent). More information about the AzEDCert Educator portal can be found on the Certification Unit's webpage at http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/.
