During A Town Hall About Tax Reform In Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, an attendee asked House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi a question she was not prepared to answer. The question was simple, but considering Pelosi’s bogus take on tax reform, it was impossible to answer without making her look like a big phony. Notes From Readers

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. – ft

Connie Uribe, Yuma County PC to James Spackman: Thank you, thank you, thank you for speaking out against our RINO US Senators! Unfortunately, Jonathan Lines is known for churning out daily newsletters filled with meaningless drivel, so I can’t imagine his addressing any issue this serious. And let’s not forget how close Lines is to McCain and the GOPe. He’s always been part of our problem or dangling from the strings of it, so a solution is way out of Baby Jonathan’s reach. To challenge him as Chairman of our State Party, to force him to demonstrate what it means to be a conservative, and to ask him to show us his true character are ingenious ideas on the part of your Republican Club. He has been under attack by the true conservatives for violating our state bylaws, but to turn a blind eye while the very people we put in office try to destroy our nation is the same as condoning their actions. Lines writes about how wonderful President Trump is doing, but the silence on the McCain/Flake rants is the same as consent. He either speaks out against them or we speak out against him.

Yavapai County Area 5 Director Brenda Dickinson: The new YavGop Education Chair Donna Tanzi has organized four quarterly PC meetings.  The first was held on Thurs, Feb 15 at the Rowle Simmons Adult Center in Prescott.  There were approximately 70 PCs in attendance.  Five candidates rented tables to hand out materials and get their petitions signed.  Brenda Dickinson said the prayer.  Yavapai County Chair Mark Sensmeier gave an overview of the State Meeting and discussed the upcoming PC Petitions and Voting standards.  The Area Directors were introduced.  Republican National Committee (RNC) State Field Organizer Landon Andreas and RNC State Director Alex Melendez, spoke to the PCs.  Phil Goode, the 1st Vice Chair discussed the upcoming Lincoln/Reagan Dinner to be held on April 21st and TNT membership.  Arizona State Treasurer candidate Kimberly Yee and former AZ Secretary of State Ken Bennett spoke to the group, as well.  Coffee and water were sponsored by LD1 State Representatives David Stringer and Noel Campbell.  Our next Quarterly PC meeting will be Wed, April 11th.  5 pm Social Hour. 6-8 pm meeting. Secretary of State Incumbent Michele Reagan and Secretary of State candidate Lori Klein Corbin will be our guest speakers. Contact Dickinson at (928) 925-1549

Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: Does anybody remember when Sheriff Joe had armed posse members patrolling the school areas in Maricopa Country?  And does anyone remember the reaction of Liberal media and the Establishment when he did?  Once again Sheriff Joe proved he was way ahead of his time. He is a man of action and not just words.  He saw a problem and met it. Need more be said?

Zack Taylor, Chairman This is all you need to know about meaningful solutions to gun violence and the opioid crisis in America. DACA-Sanctuary-Cities-Fueling-Gang-Opioid-Crises This is what must be addressed and folks it is so, so simple to understand and the solution is available and we do not need any new legislation to produce the desired results.  Please pay particular attention to the last paragraph: “Yes, it’s time to do something about mass killings. And the easy way to start is by getting rid of other countries’ criminals who kill and poison our people. It won’t infringe upon our constitutional rights, it won’t strip innocent people of the right to self-defense, but it will save lives.Sadly, don’t expect either party to let this emergency stop their clamor to pander and shamelessly politicize something that is not political while ignoring something that is manifestly rooted in public policy choices through the voluntary policy of immigration. Instead of focusing on any of these items next week, our ‘leaders’ will promote gun control. As for the opioid crisis, these same ‘leaders’ will merely throw money at the problem they created and make it worse with their agenda for continuing amnesty and sanctuary cities.

Karen Thomas , LD 22 PC and SC: We’ve been very disappointed with Tom Forese, Andy Tobin, Boyd Dunn and Justin Olsen. It seems Bob Burns is the only Commissioner on the people’s side. Since Forese is running for AZ Treasurer, we need to remember how he chose to take our money to give to his friends at APS. It will be interesting to see how much his friends at APS help him with his candidacy. Let’s just hope some other Republican runs against him so we know who to vote for.

Secretary of State Communications Director Matt Roberts: I got the Briefs today and was surprised with Lori Klein's comments. Apparently Ms. Klein apparently doesn’t read our blog, Or does she seemingly have any idea of who does what in our system of elections as the County Recorder designs, prints and sends these instructions outside of our oversight. This is like yelling at your friend whose dog has an accident in your living room. I mean it’s easy to blame the friend, but honestly it’s not like the dog asked its owner if it was ok go in the house.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan: Lori Klein’s comments on the election instructions sent by the county recorder in CD8 show how completely clueless she is pertaining to the process for the office she seeks.  My office was one of the first to not only recognize the instructions mistake, but to alert the press and the county recorder as well.  Apparently, Ms Klein doesn’t read our blog  CD8 voting instructions or the Capitol Times “Voting illustration causes confusion in CD8 special election” By: Katie Campbell February 7, 2018 , 1:38 pm Lori seemingly has zero idea of who does what in our system of elections as the County Recorder designs, prints and sends these instructions outside of our oversight.  Comments like hers are meant to inflame voters needlessly, and the fact that she is still serving as our national committeewoman makes these comments all the more troubling. Editor’s Note: Reagan’s letter included the entire text of Campbell’s article, however, it was too long for Briefs to post.

Supt of Public Instruction candidate Dr. Robert Branch: Campus Security - I am the only candidate in the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction with the experience of running a campus filled with students, faculty, administrators and staff. For me, campus security is not a hypothetical situation. As the Campus Director, I was responsible for the leadership and the oversight of the daily operation of all campus functions. A main focus of the Campus Director is the overall safety of students, faculty, staff, administration, and school property. I am the only candidate in this race who helped to design and implement safety policies, hired the security for the campus, and who had the responsibility to protect everyone from external and internal threats as part of his day-to-day official duties on campus. As Arizona’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will always have safety as my number one priority.

CD2 candidate Brandon Martin has issued a video condemning House Democrat leadership for their soft stance on illegal immigration and border security. As a candidate, Martin has traveled to rural parts of Cochise County to speak with people who live and work along the border to best understand the issues currently facing the district. “Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer and any others who live in a district where there are sanctuary cities or have advocated for the safe haven of illegal aliens and have allowed them to commit acts that are dangerous to human life have, in the least, failed to uphold their oaths and should be immediately removed from office,” Martin said. See brandon martin on the illegal immigration crisis. Contact: or www.martinforfreedom

Supt of Public Instruction Frank Riggs: Missing from the whole debate in the aftermath of the horrific school shooting in Parkland, FL are the disturbing trends in our increasingly secularized society that devalue life and even make life "disposable." Violence and killing are glamorized on TV and in movies, and a form of entertainment in video games. The shooter in Parkland acted as if he was playing a video game and his victims simply "objects," casually going for fast food after he finished his murderous spree. We've seen abortion clinics that harvest unborn babies' organs for profit. We've seen the steady breakdown of the family and a steady rise in the out-of-wedlock birth rate. In fact, the disintegration of the family is most profound in our inner cities where gun violence is most widespread. We must teach our children to respect, revere and protect life; that every person has value as a child of God. Our schools have an important role to play in helping young people learn virtue and good character. That's part and parcel of teaching young people how our system of self-government works and preparing them for responsible adult citizenship. Civics and character education go hand-in-hand. They should also learn our Judeo-Christian heritage and values, upon which our country is founded. We must restore the civic mission of our schools. Where will an increasingly secularized society learn virtue? As with all of our societal challenges, it starts in the home, but our schools have an important role to play, too.
