Former Long-Time AZGOP Treasurer/Activist Timothy Lee: Republicans across Arizona, who have been elected in their respective locales, have always been Pinto Republicans. They are NOT Conservative. Many hide behind the non-partisan or “constituent serving” veil. They routinely vote YES on tax increases, fines, permits, fee increases and franchise fees. They are proficient in lathering on government intrusive laws, ordinances, expensive local building code mandates and costly administrative rules, as well as, more burdensome regulations. Their budgets get bigger and bigger, each ensuing year. With immoral friends like this in politics running our government, who really needs a toothless, meaningless Party structure?

James Alberts: Great article Lolly (Lathhorn), apparently everyone is willing to allow the governor to appoint someone to replace McNasty and I sure it will be another R.I.N.O.

Brian Reilly, Former LD22PC: On 3-10-18-briefs, Dennis Zinke expressed the following opinion: “Let me just state for the record, I have very little respect for Trent Franks. Franks could have prevented the headaches and the hassle Sheriff Joe Arpaio had to deal with from Obama.  Sheriff Arpaio was doing what we the people asked of him.  Franks was not!” I would ask Mr. Zinke, what was former Representative Franks supposed to do about former Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s legal situation? Arpaio was found guilty in federal court of failing to comply with a federal court order not to detain or arrest individuals without probable cause that a crime had been committed. The federal judge was trying to hold Arpaio accountable to the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. As I understand, Mr. Zinke is a “facilitator” for the Northwest Tea Party Strong Patriots who claim to “believe in the Constitution, both U.S. and Arizona,” and claim to be “fighters of Freedoms and Liberties” according to information posted on the Grass Roots Tea Party Activists website. From the same website, some Tea Party basics are listed such as: “Fiscal Responsibility; Living by our U.S. Constitution; Doing what it takes to keep our Country and our Liberties Free as long as it’s done legally.” These are admirable qualities and goals that some apparently, have not taken to heart. I have no respect for Franks or Arpaio. Both individuals, in my opinion, utilized their offices inappropriately. Both politicians, in my opinion, violated the public trust. One individual is now running for the United States Senate. Do Tea Party members and conservative Republicans really believe in behaving according to a strong set of Constitutional principles and values? As a former board member of the Surprise Tea Party Patriots and the Sun City West Tea Party and, as a conservative Republican, I could not, and would not, in good conscience, give my vote to Joe Arpaio to help elect him to another position of public trust. Fortunately, for Arizona, there is a better candidate running for the United States Senate.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: When all else fails, read the directions!  To wait for another state chair is wishful thinking; the chair may be Lines reelected or someone worse.  The AZ GOP chairman need not be involved in bylaws amendments!  Secretary Gabby Mercer didn’t uphold her responsibility as given in the bylaws.  Lines violated the bylaws for trying to establish a procedure different that given in the bylaws; the ‘noteables’ and County chair were no help.  My proposed amendment was ignored by Mercer because I am not a state committeeman. Here again: The bylaws state: “B. Method of Amending Bylaws An amendment to these bylaws may be proposed at any meeting called in accordance with these bylaws. (Note – it didn’t specify just who can submit an amendment and Mercer ignored mine since I am not a state committeeman!) A copy of the proposed amendment together with a statement explaining the purpose to be achieved and the reasons in support thereof shall be mailed to each member by the secretary with the notice of call for that meeting. A two-thirds vote of the members present in person or by proxy shall be necessary to pass any motion to amend.”    Note, the Mandatory meeting was selected since the meeting is standard,  However, the bylaws provide for special meetings. Back to the bylaws which states, any meeting called in accordance with these bylaws, and while we tried to handle this at the Mandatory meeting, that is not a requirement.  The bylaws state, “C. Special Meeting Special meetings may be held at any time. 1. A written call issued by the state chairman, or (OR) signed by 20% or more of the members of the state committee representing at least nine counties, or signed by 40% of the voting members of the executive committee; and 2. Written notice of the call containing the information herein required being mailed to every member of the state committee by the secretary at least ten days before the meeting. The call and notice must contain the time and place of the special meeting and the object or objects thereof. Any call must be delivered to the secretary at least thirty days before the date of the proposed meeting. In the event of a call issued by members of the state committee or of the executive committee, the secretary shall immediately notify each person or group who may be threatened by the object of the meeting and give them ten days to inspect the call and challenge any questionable signatures. If at the expiration of such time, the required number of qualified signer’s remains, the secretary shall mail the notice of the notice of the call.”   A special meeting does not require the approval of the chair, nor the non-elected director.  It just takes the secretary doing the required procedure's!

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: The AZ GOP bylaws need updated, one bite at a time!  First, take control of the party from a one man rule.  That would be an amendment to the bylaws to take control of the Executive Committee.  Amend the bylaws to state that the Executive committee to be the County Chairs who have purview over the precinct committeemen, elect their own Executive Chairman such as is done in other major establishments, to control the budget and like the U,S. Senate, approve the appointment (and pay) of the AZ GOP staff, along with other business.  At the same time petition the state legislature to have the ARS butt out of interfering with the party bylaws. To do this we need the one with the most credentials to act, and in my opinion that is Tom Morrissey, a former state chair.  Tom should get on the phone to every County Chairman with the proposal to put them in charge of the party.  On getting the concurrence of the majority, Tom should then submit the proposed amendment to the Secretary and follow the bylaws!!!    Remember, this doesn’t need the approval of the state chair or the non-elected Director.  JUST DO IT!!Failing all this, the next recommendation is to re-register as an Independent since the party it seems is just for the elected elite and to heck with the membership!  Some must be a little taken aback at the laid back attitude of the leaders of the party (County Chairs) and some ‘talking heads’.  It’s your party, Not Lines’s or a non-elected Director.  Why shouldn’t  the membership seize control of their party????   Responses invited! Jim Ehl
